Customers are enthusiastic about the Macbook®'s lightweight design, impressive portability, and its compact size. Many appreciate the long battery life and the smooth performance. While some find the limited number of ports and the single USB-C port inconvenient, the positive feedback on other features outweighs these concerns for most users.

Apple Does It Again!

I have been using Apple products since 1984 with my first Macintosh computer with a black and white 5" monitor. What seemed amazing at the time is merely a relic now. Yet now, as then, Apple keeps the excitement and innovation alive in the MacBook 12" Laptop. This has replaced both my desktop and my MacBook Pro 13" for several reasons. First I don't do graphics and I am not a gamer. If those are priorities for you then you would be better served by either one of the MacBook Pro Laptops or one of the iMac desktops with more processing power. But for the majority of users who use their computers every day in a multitude of ways, this is the ideal computer. At just 2lbs., this is a joy for taking with you wherever you go, almost the same weight as an iPad. However don't be fooled. This is a very powerful and fast computer that is more computer than device. Some of my favorite features are its easy portability, amazing Retina display and unique color schemes. I chose gold because I like the black Tech21 protective shell and the black exterior against the gold interior is very sexy yet professional and a real eye catcher. For the first time in my many years with Apple computers, I have actually used one of the Apple logo stickers that come with every Apple laptop. The sticker is gold like the laptop and I neatly place it where the logo normally shines through on the MacBook Pro laptops. May sound tacky, but it isn't. Looks as if it came from the factory like this. Which begs the question "Why not?!?". When I get home from work, I take my MacBook out of my backpack, put it on my desk at home and connect it to my beautiful Ultrawide Curved 4K monitor. The MacBook supports this seamlessly and honestly I cannot tell the difference between this and the amazing 27" iMac 5K retina that this set-up replaced. Also, once you get used to it, the low island style keyboard lends itself to faster typing (at least for me) and is much more forgiving as the keys are wider than the traditional Apple Keyboard and there is no dissipation of light from the center out to the edges due to the fact that each individual key is lit separately. I bought the upgraded version primarily for the extra storage, but I have used both and there is very little difference in performance. For me, this computer is a game changer in laptop computers. Once again Apple is light years ahead of its competitors in quality, design and performance. I highly recommend this laptop to everyone from the casual user to the more advanced users.

I needed to replace my 6-year-old MacBook Pro, whose hard drive got fried. I travel quite a bit and was looking for a more compact laptop that would be easier to pack and travel with but still offer me the capabilities of a larger computer.. This new 12" MacBook is perfect! I was replacing a 15" MacBook Pro and was amazed at the difference in size and weight. I do miss the 15" screen, but that was the compromise for this "travel-size" full-strength computer. The keyboard is full-size and still offers slightly raised keys to make it easy to touch type. I had to buy an additional cable though, because this computer only has one external port, USB-C (smaller than the standard USB port). For $80, I purchased a short connector cable with the USB-C computer connection that has 3 ports for connecting other devices: USB, USB-C and HDMI. It's a bit annoying, but I know it'll be fine once I get used to it. Overall, very satisfied with my new Mac and its awesome compact size. The photo shows my old 15" MacBook Pro next to my new 12" MacBook (you can't tell the thickness from the pic but the 12" is also substantially thinner than the 15").

For some folks, this is all you will need in a very compact light weight package, full funtion macbook slightly larger than an iPad. I have it as an altertnative to my 15" MacBook pro which is heavier, and larger. The single port takes a little getting used to and you will need a dongle or two to have maximum funtionality but worth it for the convenience of this small and mighty package.

This MacBook is the most amazing piece of technology I have ever owned. I've had PowerBooks and MacBooks before, but this one is so light and thin and innovative it blows me away. The design is amazing. I so totally love this small yet powerful computer. It's hard to believe that so much computer can be had in so little space. I'm so glad I bought this!

Love it, I grew up on strictly windows computers but used macs in school and once I got the first iPhone, I got hooked on Apple and got everyone since
My phone works seamlessly As handoff for papers and a lot of work as well as entertainment
The fact that my phone can be used as an anywhere hotspot is perfect now with all the cloud intergration
I don't even really use USB or anything anymore, but I did get a hdmi adaptor and a USB one to transfer my flash drives and such but the lightweight and just all and all look and display is gorgeous

My macbook pro 2009 has been worth its every penny but it's about time for an upgrade and Best Buy's student deal came at the perfect time! My new MacBook 12 inch space gray is a great upgrade in every respect! I like that it's lightweight as I could barely feel it's weight in my backpack! I also got the 512 Gb so I don't have to worry about hard drive space. I definitely saw the speed of my new macbook is a lot faster than my old macbook Pro! I also love the space gray color with its classy look. The quality of the sound is likewise much better. If you got an old macbook pro, this is definitely worth the upgrade. The only drawback is it only has one USB-C port connector for its power input. You would need to purchase an adaptor or multiport adaptor to connect your other gadgets into this new macbook. Yet, I understand how this mac has become so lightweight so I love my new MacBook!

Best Mobile Laptop Ever (with some concessions)

To begin, I absolutely love my 12" MacBook. I travel quite a bit for work and its small form factor is the ultimate in portability. It is a full laptop in a size that is just larger than a 9.7" iPad. I had a 12.9" iPad Pro and replaced it with my 12" MacBook. The MacBook was actually smaller and lighter to carry. The MacBook has a fair amount of storage at 512 GB (although I would have preferred more); runs OS X; has a large glass touchpad with haptic feedback; and, while some reviews have been mixed on the keyboard, I find that I actually prefer it to the "softer" feel of the keyboard on previous MacBook Pros that I owned. The retina display is gorgeous to look at and, if I adjust the screen brightness, can squeak out almost two days of intermittent use at meetings without requiring a charge.
So, considering how much I love this laptop, why only four stars? To create a computer with such a small form factor, some trade-offs had to be made. First, the processor is not very powerful. For reading email, browsing the internet, creating documents, generating presentations, working in spreadsheets, and other business-oriented tasks like that, the computer is plenty powerful and, thanks to its flash storage, feels very quick and responsive. If you want to process video, however, the performance lag compared to a MacBook Pro is significant. Another concession is connectivity. With AirPlay, AirDrop, wireless, and cloud storage, I realize Apple is moving away from traditional means of file sharing. A single USB-C port for both charging and connectivity is almost a crime, especially considering you need to purchase adapters/dongles separately. Without a dongle or USB-C hub, you cannot simultaneously charge your laptop while also using an external USB drive, a USB microphone, a USB scanner, or any other number of USB peripherals. Want to connect to an external television, screen, or monitor (without using AirPlay)? You need a dongle. I also tried to daisy-chain dongles together... No luck. Do you want to access files on a flash drive while also recording audio from a USB microphone? You are out of luck unless you purchase a USB-C hub from a third party. Even with the dongles, there is no way to plug in more than one USB device at a time. I also have a 15" MacBook Pro and the performance and connectivity of the 12" MacBook obviously pales in comparison. On the other hand, after traveling with the 12" MacBook just once, there is no way I will ever take my 15" MBP on an airplane again. (I also used to have a 13" MBP, and feel the same way. The 12" MacBook's killer feature is its small form factor and portability.)
Needless to say, this computer is not designed to be a desktop replacement. It is too underpowered and lacks connectivity options. On the other hand, if you are looking for a Mac that provides the ultimate in portability (including outstanding battery life and a beautiful retina display), the 12" MacBook is a sensational option. Some may debate that a 13" MacBook Air would be a better option as it does have a larger screen, faster processor, and more connectivity options compared to the 12" MacBook with a single USB-C port. Having used both, however, I really like my 12" MacBook. I am used to the keyboard and like the feel. The 12" MacBook feels perfectly balanced which even allows me to hold it in one hand while using my other hand to type or use the huge touchpad. The 12" MacBook also has the haptic feedback touchpad and the retina display. If Apple made a 13" Air with the butterfly-mechanism keyboard and a retina display, it would be a much more difficult choice (and I would probably go with an Air at that point). For the time being, though, I really like my 12" MacBook and do not regret the purchase one bit.

I am VERY pleased with this machine. The display is fabulous in terms of the sheer quality of the view as well as the experience of viewing it. I expected to be disappointed with the comparatively small size of the display since I’ve been using a 17-inch Windows notebook computer. But I haven’t missed the “billboard” screen on the Windows machine at all. I expected to struggle a lot with Windows-to-Mac transition, but it’s been very smooth for me despite the differences. I’m learning to Mac-think instead of Windows-think, and it’s a pleasant adventure. The small, light-weight form factor is very refreshing, build quality and materials are superb. The keyboard, while marginally different, has been easy to adjust to, and the keystroke behavior suits me very well. Coming from a Windows machine, the battery life is astounding. I would agree with the scores of reviewers who point out issues such as limited ports and the unimaginable absence of any on-board numeric keypad solution. But there are get-arounds for those things. The machine is sufficient for the things I do, mostly including documents, spreadsheets, and internet use. I’m sure I’ll explore doing fun things with images and sounds as I go along. This was a very good purchase decision for me.

The MacBook is apparently designed for light-weight portability and it is hard to imagine anything better for that purpose. The beautiful screen is large enough to be functional but the whole package is so light and compact it makes the MacBook Air seem like a luggable.
However, some of the limitations imposed by extreme portability are still cited as negatives. There seem to be three main concerns about the MacBook based on my reading of reviews: weak CPU, only one port, and tricky keyboard. I never found performance to be an issue. The MacBook always seemed speedy and without lag. I should note that I do not use particularly demanding software- mostly health and financial tracking apps, email and browsing. The single port does make for some frustration. I tried hubs to allow multiple devices to be connected at once but always experienced some problem connecting one device or another. In the end I used a single USB-C to USB-A converter to connect one device at a time. That worked for me but was inconvenient. I also had some difficulty touch typing rapidly with the keyboard. I think it was partly due to the keys seeming to be closer together and the relative lack of downward motion. I got better with time but I have had much less difficulty with most other laptops.
Overall the MacBook is a remarkable piece of machinery and a pleasure to use- elegant in design and absolutley silent. It should work well for you, and I would recommend it, if you don't need to connect a lot of devices and don't plan to use software that puts excessive demands on the CPU.

You might scoff at the price but if you do a lot of work on the go and are a lover of great design/apple products, then you'll fall in love with this computer. Apple's new macbook is fantastic but fair warning, you'll have to get used to a) the lack of ports and b) the keyboard. However as someone that owns a 15 inch macbook pro and has multiple 13 inch air's for his business, I can tell you that I got very used to these changes quickly. You will love this computer. One tip though, if you're going to buy it, shell out the extra money for the M5 512GB model, it's much faster than the base, you won't regret it in the long term.

I received this computer as a graduation gift for finishing graduate school and was it a huge upgrade from my 2011 MacBook , lighter, faster and with an SSD drive that starts very quickly. I was a little taken back because of one port but nothing a simple adapter can't fix besides its insanely light. I don't do anything hard core , only basic stuff like create spread sheets, review documents , browse online and check email so this computer is perfect for me. If your not a power user , I recommend this MacBook you won't regret it. Granted the keyboard takes getting a little use to but its ok no big deal, still this laptop is amazing.

So, this is my first time ever buying and using a MacBook. I'm an iPhone user, but also a windows user for PC. my reason for looking for a new laptop was because my other laptop would be too heavy to carry around back and forth almost everyday. This laptop is good just for the portability. It honestly has no other ports than for the charger and a headphone jack so it cannot do much like reading USBs, HDMI ports etc. Very pricy for a laptop with only 8GB RAM and no ports, but the fact that this laptop only weighs 2 pounds was the main reason I bought it. It's easy to carry around for a college student.

I needed a new computer to replace my 2011 Macbook Pro. After much deliberation, I decided to stay with Apple and get the Macbook because of the positive reviews, the convenience of having my iPhone, iPad and computer synced, and there wasn't a significant price difference between the Macbook and the other units I was looking into. I've had my new Macbook for just under a month now and I pretty much agree with other reviews. The computer is super fast, battery runs well, no heating issues, the display, etc. I did take away one star because of the single USB-C port. I didn't like the limitation of only 1 port, since I use an external hard drive, I had to chose between having the computer plugged in or my external hard drive plugged in. It is an easy fix, I was able to find an extension that had a USB-C, and a USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, but I believe a $1500 computer shouldn't have that limitation.

I had the macbook pro for two years and was tired of carrying around a heavy laptop (not to mention the slow speeds and a dying battery). I wanted something simple that I could still use when working from home, so i decided to upgrade. the rose gold color gives it a rich look and it's so light-weight that it can fit in my purse without weighing me down. It's so fast and starts up immediately once I power it on. the battery lasts a really long time and doesn't take forever to charge. so glad i made this purchase!

This laptop is incredibly thin and light. It’s really an engineering marvel how well this computer works given its portability and form factor. Additionally, the screen is bright and high res. Battery life is 8 hrs+. Mac OS is great. They’re adding more features to work nicely with all the other Apple products. Great software updates later down the road. Only bad thing is the 1 usb type c port. Buy a dongle.
