Customers are saying

Customers are enthusiastic about the Macbook®'s lightweight design, impressive portability, and its compact size. Many appreciate the long battery life and the smooth performance. While some find the limited number of ports and the single USB-C port inconvenient, the positive feedback on other features outweighs these concerns for most users.

At first I was choosing to get either a macbook pro or this macbook for college, and I ended up choosing this macbook because its is so lightweight and versatile. The speakers on this macbook is amazing compared to the older macbook air. I love the high resolution screen and the fast processor. Since the keyboard is slightly thinner than usual, it makes me have more typos. Other than that, I definitely recommend this laptop if you go to school and don't want a heavy backpack.

The right amount of power in a skinny and lightweight Apple laptop. This is for the purists, those that do not need a touch screen or a touch bar (not yet). And... maybe those who already have an iPad. This MacBook 12 is a traditional laptop in it's best declination. The battery life is acceptable, and I have a cheap external battery (USB-C) that doubles that. It gets the job done, with no frills but with style. One USB-C port is sufficient, but there are important limitations. 4 stars to the keyboard: yes, it's smaller than usual, but after using it for some time you will probably find it comfortable. 4 stars to the power: no lags in everyday use, but no powerhouse really - if you are a video professional this is not right for you. 5 stars to the design and build quality: I had high expectations, and this feels rock solid - not thin and fragile like other ultra light laptops - in everyday use. 5 stars for the style: nothing out there is as elegant and functional as this. 5 stars for the portability: this is the ultimate portable computer. I think it will be the last of this breed, but it is also the best.

I had and enjoyed my 2009 MacBook Pro for 8 good years. My new MacBook is faster with greater screen resolution. This enables the 12 inch screen with the ability to zoom to completely meet all my viewing needs. The 8Gb memory and 512GB Flash Storage will allow me to store everything. Really like the Space Gray.

Perfect Macbook laptop for the casual user

After having my previous Macbook for 9 years, I debated hard over which Macbook to get to replace it - I was deciding between the Macbook pro and this one. I ended up going with this one because I was able to get more hard drive space and the retina screen for the same price that I would have paid for lesser specs on the pro. I was skeptical about whether I would like this model since it only comes with the single port which is also used for charging. Turns out I don't need to plug devices into my laptop too often, and when I do need to, I bought a separate adapter which has a port for charging plus 2 USBs, HDMI, SD card slots, etc., which is more than enough. The battery life on this laptop is also amazing, for the amount that I use it on a daily basis, I can go a week or more without ever charging it. It's also SUPER thin and lightweight and easy to transport when needed. From a skeptical, over analytical Mac user, I highly recommend this model if you're just looking for something to use casually (the most processing I do on it is photo editing).

Have to say was pleasantly surprised. Great machine Amazingly small. Need to get some extenders due to lack of ports. But fast, powerful and weights next to nothing. Bought it as last years model but on sale was about $500 less then current. Couldn't go wrong. Very happy with the computer.

Beautiful design, crystal clear Retina display, accurate keyboard, and the benchmark of extreme portability. Zips along for daily tasks even with countless applications running. Just might not be the best choice if you depend on external storage, usb peripherals, or secondary displays.

    Best Computer

Ahhh where to begin..... this is absolutely an incredible computer. I have been a windows user for my entire life, therefore, my prior computers were always HP or Dell computers. I've always liked Apple but I was not comfortable using Mac's Software. I'm a college student and my HP laptop decided to quit on me so it was time to purchase a new computer. I wanted a small and light laptop (because I carry my computer all around campus) I knew that this new model Mac was slim, light, and powerful. I decided to take a chance and set my worries aside and go for the Mac and I am absolutely glad that I did. I purchased the M5 with 512GB model Open Box excellent (for the obvious price reduction) The computer came after about a week of shipping and handling and it was in perfect condition. Overall, I am very glad I purchased this computer. It is exactly what I needed to be successful in school and am grateful that best buy had it at such a great price.

I purchased a 2016 Macbook with the m5 processor and 512 MB storage. This last years model was $200 less than the 2017 m3 base model. I wavered between the two and read all the reviews and forum comments I could find. The difference boiled down primarily to the keyboard, and secondarily to the processor given that I was comparing an m3 to a previous year m5, which are fairly close according to benchmarks. I came to the conclusion that you can never future proof electronic devices, and given that my new purchase replaces a 2008 macbook I feel that even last years model will give me years of use. Now to the review. The keyboard in my opinion is just fine after only a few hours of use. Makes me wonder what all the fuss was about. I tested the 2017 model at Best Buy, but there was no 2016 model to test so in buying the older model I was kind of taking a chance. I honestly notice very little difference in the two keyboards. just my initial opinion and I haven't typed for 3 hours straight or anything but I really think the issue was a bit overblown in many of the reviews. The performance issue is probably more legit but I did get an m5 so the difference is minimized. I feel the 2017 unit I tested was a bit snappier but the 2016 is going to be fine. By next spring the 2017's will underperform the newest model so such is the upgrade game. The size of the unit is just fine. In comparison to the 13 inch Pro model the size difference was less important than the weight difference. The weight of the Macbook is why it's so attractive in my opinion. I will update this review after a few months of use but my first impression is I have a beautiful laptop, and the model year issue is not that important for those feeling the same dilemma.

This MacBook is amazing. Pairs with all my apple products. Lightweight, charges super fast, holds LONG charge. I carry it everywhere. Had a student coupon 200 off and was on sale for 500 off additional. I love Best Buy! The points got me additional gift certificates. Used it towards Christmas presents for my niece and nephew (2 hatchimals) for FREE! Forget amazon, BB is amazing.

    Awesome For Traveling

This computer is incredibly thin and lightweight. It is specifically made for the person on the go, in that it doesn't have the horsepower to blaze through video editing, but it can do all the tasks a typical person traveling could want. Internet, email, word processing, and photo editing are handled with ease, and since it is so small and light, it disappears in your luggage. Be aware that it comes with exactly 2 ports: a USB C port and a headphone jack. The USB C port is used for everything, including charging. This means that if you have older USB devices, you'll need to get an adapter from USB C to A/B. It sounds crazy, but in real world usage, I've only used the adapter once, to plug in a thumb drive. Everything else is in the cloud these days. If you need portability, and aren't looking for extreme processing power, this is the Mac for you.

he Good The new 12-inch MacBook adds the improved keyboard mechanism from the MacBook Pro line. New processor and RAM options mean better performance. The Bad Little else has changed, including the lack of ports beyond a single USB-C connection. You still can't get more-powerful mainstream Intel processors. The Bottom Line With a subtle tweak to the keyboard and better component choices, this cult favorite mini MacBook suddenly feels like it can be your everyday laptop.

The laptop is amazing. Definitely a must have for anyone who needs an efficient laptop for browsing the web and writing essays. Major con though, the FaceTime camera is only 480p, making the quality look like that of the legacy Nokia phone. other that, everything is perfect, for NON-POWER USERS.

I'll start this off by saying that I have been a Mac user since 2012. The only reason that I upgraded my Macbook Pro (late 2012), was because I was giving it away to a younger sibling, who would get more use out of it because they didn't have a computer of their own. I got the Macbook because of the single port. It has worked absolutely perfectly. I have no complaints. It's a beautiful gold color, and the display is wonderful. It is fast, and works better than other computers (non-Apple) that I have owned in the past. I don't think Apple is ever getting rid of me as a customer. This Macbook is light, portable, and user friendly.

This is "righty-sized" for a "take-it-with-you" experience. I have to knock it down a star on account of the necessity to buy a dongle or a dock to be able to attach plain-vaniulla USB devices such as a MIDI keyboard or even an Ipad. But Caldigit sells an good dock for $150 which does charging plus 4 USB ports plus HDMI plus Gigabit Ethernet. Compare that to lesser devices selling for $40 to $65 which don't power your Macbook. But the nice thing is this has a full 512GB internal (fast!) SSD drive so it competes with the larger size Ipads as an on-to-go music/phioto/video depot. And the battery-life is as long as an Ipad too. The screen resoltion is good but it's not IpadPro/MacbookPro resolution but is not weak either!. Keep in mind that you get the MacOS apps that you know and love and a really good touchpad and a keyboard that stands up to "fat-fingers!" This is probably a good choice for students who need to do word-processing as well webby-things.

I was originally planning on getting the newer version of this MacBook but with a lot less storage. I was in Best Buy looking at the 2017 model and I liked the butterfly keys. However after reading some reviews I noticed a lot of people didn’t like the keys on this particular model. I personally haven’t had too many issues with it. There is some travel issues but nothing that would make me say that I absolutely can not use it. I typically use mine for casual web surfing and my college homework. Gets the job done fast and the screen is beautiful! Especially for a smaller screen. Definitely worth the price and I was lucky to get it on sale at a banging price! I would say that if you love the keyboard on the newer model then go with this option. Even though they’re not the exact same keyboard. There isn’t too much of a difference between them. And I have bigger hands and haven’t had an issue.

I bought the "old" model because I got a really good deal. Had to adjust to the butterfly keyboard mechanism but love it now. Sound is also pretty good. The Macbook is small, light-weigh and has a great performance, I now use it as my everyday laptop.

I love this little MacBook. As soon as I saw it on the clearance sale at Best Buy I knew I had to buy. I was stuck trying to figure out if I should buy the 2017 version instead of the 2016 version but the 512 ssd won me over. This thing is way faster then my old MacBook that had an I5 processor. Plus not only it's light and cute for a college student it can handle any task I used my old mbp for. The only con is that it only has one USB C port but I knew that before purchasing, so it's really not a big deal I just need to remember to buy an adapter.

I love the simplicity of using a Mac. The computer works great and the battery keeps a charge for a long time. You need an adapter to plug in a USB, but that is no problem. The wifi is easy to set up and everything just works.
