User-friendly laptop for people on the go

This macbook is perfect for people who are out all day and depend on a battery that will last. I am a college student and on a typical school day, I can bring it at 100% life and leave campus with about 50%-60% left after attending 2 or 3 classes. The most draining I do on this mac is streaming Netflix/movies while on Google+ Hangouts with 2 - 3 other people. The battery will last me about 4 hours before I have to plug it in. I needed something light on my back since I carry it around campus, and it's just about the same weight as my 1/2" binder full of papers. It's a great replacement for notebooks; plus it keeps everything more organized. Purchasing this mac from Best Buy gave me Pages, Keynote, and Numbers for free; perfect for a college student. I've been a windows user my whole life, so switching to apple seemed like a daunting task. But it only took me about a week to learn the basics. It's much more simplified, very user friendly, and easy to use once you know all the tips and tricks. The trackpad is so much more user friendly compared to trackpads on windows laptops. On the other hand, the price of this laptop is incredibly steep, especially for a student like me. I tried waiting for sales, but the most I could get was $150 off on Black Friday. Apple products never usually go on sale for more than 15%-20% so, I expected to lay down about a grand, which I ended up doing, even with the sale. Since I paid so much for it, I expected this machine to run smoothly, at least for the first few months of owning it. But unfortunately, I had to do a hard reset within just the first week of having it. I have to do this maybe once every week or two due to the screen not turning on, or screen just going black with no response after using the keyboard and trackpad. I'm very disappointed with this, especially after paying so much. However, I still think all its pros outweigh its cons. Although I did not expect to come across problems so early, I don't mind having little glitches every now and then if it means I'll have a machine with great functionality otherwise. It's very convenient to have and a pleasure to use. Buying this Macbook Air a big commitment considering its price, but in the end, it'll be worth it.

Even after hearing stories about the bad wi-fi issues, I still took a chance. As I was asking one of the reps to get me the laptop, I over heard some whispering but I clearly heard one of the reps say- "Did we get the new Macbook Air's in already?, or are they still the old ones?". Call me crazy, but this sounded like they they got the revised editions. I purchased it on 7/5/13 today is 7/8/13 and so far no wi-fi issues at all. It's been 3 days and I haven't encountered a single issue! One of the things that Best Buy should do is, at the time of purchase mention to the customer that the unit their purchasing is the revised edition. As for the laptop and what I think about it, It's an Apple product, so expect nothing but the best. I just wish the screen resolution was a bit higher, other than that, I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Premium price, but missing some features

I owned a Gateway NV series laptop for the last five years, it was hot, slow, and not dependable. That's why I got the Macbook Air. I'm glad I didn't get the 11 inch screen because that would've been too small. For the extra $100 it's well worth the upgrade to the 13 from the 11. It also has a bigger battery and a couple of more hours of battery life. It boots up in seconds, it's ultra portable, and feels really premium. The mouse on board is second to none. It however lacks HDMI and VGA ports. The screen is disappointingly dim without it being plugged in. I'm used to looking at my Nexus 4 all day and looking at this with the brightness turned all the way up is a bit too dim for my liking. I didn't get to play with it in the Anaheim store that I bought it at. Ended up picking it up at another store. Overall, I hope to get ten good years' use out of it. I figure I could've bought an ASUS with similar specs for half the price, but I know that Apples last a bit longer than most PCs. The biggest draw was the SSD so that my lap wouldn't burn up like it did with my old PC. If you don't mind it being a bit dim and you don't mind spending extras to get accessories, and portability is a must this is the device for you.

I think Macs are a bit pricy, but the MBA is a nice machine. My only regret is not shelling out for more RAM or disk space. The computer has froze on more than one occasion but of course ymmv. It's probably caused by a third-party application. A couple notes: - The SSD is VERY fast. Boot-up times are about 10 seconds on average. I only wish I had gotten more disk space as I now have to rely on external storage. - Dota 2 runs well (with no problem on medium settings, but will get hot on high settings - Guild Wars 2 runs decently at about 30fps for medium settings, but I couldn't really turn up the settings any more without noticeable lag. - Keyboard is excellent to type on. - The MBA is incredibly light. - Converting from windows to mac only took a couple weeks to get used to. The placement of the fn, control, alt, and command keys take time to adjust to. - The trackpad is hundreds of times better than any trackpad I've ever used. - I wish there were more ports. Overall, it's a nice buy if it's in your budget and fits your needs.

The MacBook Air, with office installed and wifi available has everything I need when working outside the office. The without an Ethernet port, I had to purchase an adaptor that I only use on the rare occasion where I stay at a hotel without wifi. Additionally, the design of the MacBook Air doesn't permit the inclusion of disc drive. Like an Ethernet port, it's rarely used now. However, when it is, unless you have the portable disc drive (additional $70-80), you have to go through the pain of transferring files to a portable hard drive or via email to the computer. Don't get me wrong; minor gripes aside, the MacBook Air is a highly capable computer that can do everything work related that I need it too. It has a phenomenal battery life and all the bells and whistles i could want without the additional costs and extraneous options on the MacBook Pro.

This computer is great for anyone especially students who just need a computer to take to class for notes or some minor tasks like spreadsheets or word processing. Its quick enough to start up and hibernate if you are just closing the lid and opening the lid. The microphone is one the best I have used when compared to the microsoft surface for a similar tasks. I can go through the entire school day ~ 5 hours of school use i.e taking notes or web surfing on the battery. The cons are you can't have a lot of media files i.e music or video stored on the actual device. Any other software that is processor or ram intensive i.e matlab, photoshop, etc you might want to look at a more powerful computer

Migration from previous Macs very Slow

Great Machine if this is your first Mac, otherwise.... Don't expect to use this computer the same day if you are upgrading from a previous Mac, Upgrade takes hours and hours. Apple has stripped away all the useful ports (to save a few pennies) so wireless (or a TimeMachine drive you have to buy) are the only options. Wireless has to search every possible IP address to find the other Mac, takes *forever*. Apple needs to consider hiring engineers who can use USB to connect 2 Macs to the same USB hub and allow fast upgrade without needing *any* network. Very disappointing. Apple forces you to buy several accessories to upgrade at all. Very, very disappointing. Real poor quality.

I bought this as an open-box item at a local Best Buy store at a slight discount. It's a very nice and powerful laptop. You can run VMWare Fusion to run a virtual linux and/or windows machine on this. The internal flash drive is very fast and that makes it a very platform to run virtual machines. I think 128GB model would be just fine these days with the availability of cloud storage. But this laptop offers the possibility for doing a lot more serious things on it, and I am exploring to do a lot more things on this laptop than I had originally planned to do. Now I wish I had bought a 256GB model.

This is my second MacBook, the first being a pro. The TFT screen on the air is inferior to my four yea or old ips screen on the pro, this gets blown away by the screen on the retina. The colors don't look right even after calibration and very widely with viewing angle. The screen along with slow wifi locks, and occasional random reboots are the cons. The pros are the great battery life and portability. If you haven't used a Mac trackpad, they are the best in the business. I'll probably be looking to replace this much quicker than my pro because of its shortcomings.

The new MacBook Air is basically as advertised. It looks just like the old models (which I never owned), is incredibly lightweight, and is really quick with any productivity tasks you need to do. It even runs Guild Wars 2 (on low settings) without any problem. My only complaint is that the battery life, while still really great, in practice doesn't reach what's advertised, especially if you, like me, run multiple cloud services in the background. Turning those off gets much closer to the advertised rate. I was also hoping for a retina screen this round.

I had a MacBook Pro, but I spilled water on it and killed it, so this was a replacement. I edit lots of videos and have lots of music, so the 128 GB was a drawback. However, knowing that, I decided to purchase the 2 TB Time Capsule and just use that as my wireless storage. It actually is helping me keep my computer clutter free. Whenever I need a file I can just drag it off the time capsule to my desktop. I really like how light this computer is, and since it has flash storage, like the iPads, there are no spinning discs to worry about.

I used to have Win laptops and switched to the Macbook Air. Best decision I made since it has not crashed yet and many of the programs can be bought and download via iTunes. Upgrade to Maverick was free and my experience with Windows was you had to pay for the upgrade. I would recommend this to anyone looking to invest in a small lightweight laptop whether they are a PC user or not. I find this a much better solution than a tablet as it is more powerful and has a larger screen. I bought the 13.3" Air. Price per dollar is a good value.

This is my first Mac since I am switching everything over from PC and I have to say I am loving it! It is so light and compact that it isn't hard to take with me every where I go. The back lit buttons are really nice along with the fast start up process. Some may complain that it doesn't have a disc drive but I found an external one for a very reasonable price and since I don't install very many programs, that doesn't bother me to have something extra. After 2 months of owning it, I'm still loving it!

This laptop is nice to take on road trips. It's very light and the battery seems to last quite a long time. The downside is that it is kinda slow. I basically bought it to learn how to program iOS/MacOS apps. It did its job well. I haven't touched the MacOS in years and found it a little different then when I left off. That's one thing about MacOS, to me, that is a bit disconcerting. They try to make everything better but it tends to make it less intuitive. Overall, I'm happy with the laptop and it's nice to have around.

Great laptop, works very fast and I loved that there are no moving parts which makes me feel like its a little more durable. The thing is that since there are no moving parts, you have to be really disciplined about turning it on and off and letting it sleep. Or else it will be weird about turning on again. Maybe my specific notebook just has a glitch but that's what I've learned that I have to do or else it makes me restart it just to turn it on.

After a month, my feelings about this laptop are mixed for two reasons. First, I have not found the software easy to use. I made a document in Pages for a friend (who also has a Mac) and she was not able to open it, and I was not able to open it on a PC. So I had to convert it to a PDF in order for her to view it, but she couldn't edit, so we had to do that "manually". Second, I find the keyboard awkward to use, and I'm wondering if I made a mistake by not going with a MacBook Pro.

This is my first Apple computer and I had some initial setup problems due to a factory installed voice over box that no one at the Apple Store knew anything about. I finally figured out what the box was and disabled it. After completing a one-hour "Discovering Your New Mac" class, I feel rather confident in using the Mac Book Air. I do wish that I had thought to make sure that a CD/DVD drive and side number pad were included, but it was completely my fault for not checking.

there is definately pros and cons, the price was high, but i wanted an apple, they dont get as much viruses as a regular laptop. the weight is a plus. still trying to learn the different programs. down side would be finding compadable programs. not knowing much about computors i purchased a the dragon program, it was on sale, but i could not use it on this computor, i spoke to best buy, they said there is a apple version, but it was 3 x's more for the same program.

i bought this for my daughter, she wanted a mac because her friends all had one. seems that it does everything my other laptops do, about the same speed, as easy to use. honestly doesnt seem to be any better or worse. ive heard lots of good things about macbooks and maybe they are better for certain tasks, but for me it seems like alot of money for what she uses it for. i do like the touch pad, and how you can move the mouse and then just push it for a click.

I am on the road a LOT. This MacBook Air is so lightweight and thin, I can slip it into almost any other bag, backpack, or almost anywhere. Sure, I didn't get the bigger screen nor one with a CD drive, but with an external drive, this is EXACTLY what I needed to be on the road, yet keep up with the same items I can work on my Mac Mini. Tip: Buy a compact mouse...MUCH easier to surf and work all sorts of clicks than the trackpad.
