MacBook Air M2 15": Perfect, Except for this ...

I’ve been hanging out with the MacBook Air M2 15-inch, and it’s a pretty great machine, but there are a few things you should know. The great things: • Performance and Battery Life: This baby can handle your daily tasks and creative projects with no sweat. Plus, the battery lasts. All day. • Design and Portability: It’s sleek and light, and the 15-inch screen is great for multitasking or binge-watching your favorite shows. • Webcam & Speakers: Clear calls and great sound - perfect for both work meetings and jamming out. The not-so-great: • SSD Markup: Upgrading the SSD through Apple costs an arm and a leg compared to other SSDs out there. • Non-Upgradable Components: The RAM and SSD are stuck as they are - no DIY upgrades here. Choosing your specs: • RAM: You’ve got options from 8GB to 24GB. Choose wisely, you can’t (officially) change it later. • SSD: Sizes range from 256GB to 2TB. Again, no changes (again officially) after purchase. Need More Storage Later? You can’t change the internal SSD, but you can add an external one via Thunderbolt for extra space. Repairs and upgrades: Apple does repairs, but they’re pricey. Local shops might help, but be careful not to void your warranty. Who’s it for: If you value design, portability, and performance, and you’re okay with choosing your specs upfront, this could be the right machine. Who should think twice: If you’re not into paying extra for more storage, or you like to upgrade your tech over time, this might not be your cup of tea. The MacBook Air M2 15-inch is a top-notch laptop, but the non-upgradable RAM and SSD and the high cost of Apple’s storage upgrades are things to consider. Make sure it fits your needs and budget before you dive in.

4.8 stars. Other than current MacBook Pro, probably the best (of many) laptop/portable computers I've ever used (caveat: I'm not a gamer, and I'm not using any *NIX-related instances other than macOS). Depends on your use case and workflow. Good product configuration decision by Apple: 512GB/8GB is a well-considered sweet spot for vast majority of potential users (email, general web surfing, calendar, contacts, word processing, media playback). Screen is bright, beautiful, crisp; 15" vs. 13" makes more of a difference than one might think (especially for older eyes; for use as an emergency hot spare clone for a 16" MacBook Pro having a very populated Desktop; and/or if planning to keep machine for a long time). Performance in general = zippy (but see Memory note below). Sound is perhaps unexpectedly quite good for a laptop. 15" Air now only available (new 2024) with M3 processor at roughly same price as this generation with M2. Bump in performance, reduction in power use (cooler operation is almost always better for electronic components and battery life). M2 machine has become warm, but not hot, no matter what tasks thrown at it. For most people, especially in basic use case like that mentioned above, M3 is overkill. minus 0.1 star: Midnight (deep blue/black) case color is very nice, but as noted in just about every M2 15" Air review everywhere, no question that the case with this finish is a fingerprint/smudge magnet. If that doesn't matter to you, obviously not an issue; easily cleaned with a microfiber cloth. (N.B.: The 2024 M3 15" MacBook Air in Midnight has a new case anodization process which appears to reduce (but not eliminate) the fingerprint oil/smudging issue.) minus 0.1 star: Storage/Memory/Ports. Obviously, if you choose to buy this machine, you know what you are getting with the configuration of this light/portable computer. Somewhat unfair to delete fraction of a star, so just consider these items as input from the peanut gallery: 1/ Ports: This depends completely on your use case. If you are completely mobile, or connecting to a dock (ie CalDigit TS4, portable dock; Satechi, Plugable, others), then having only two Thunderbolt ports on the Air is probably a non-issue. But if you need dongles for Display, Ethernet, etc.; are attaching an audio or video interface; or multiple external drives; the third TB4 port on a MacBook Pro becomes very tempting. Note however that external Thunderbolt Hubs are available (again, see CalDigit, Satechi, usw). 2/ Storage: You always need more. I would suggest spending to get the 1TB storage option, especially if intending to keep the Air for a long time. 2TB if you can afford, especially if running a number of VMs (Virtual Machines). 3/ Memory (RAM): 8GB is fine if your workflow is a basic use case as noted above. However if you run several web browsers simultaneously (ie for different projects or research topics; or media; or personal vs. work; etc.), would definitely recommend at least the 16GB option. 24GB if you can afford, plan to keep long time (Browsers always seem to suck up more RAM as versions increase), or as mentioned in /2/, if running a number of VMs. Bottom Line: The 2023/2024 MacBook Air 15" is a fine machine. For a basic use case, save some money by finding a 15" M2 MacBook Air refurbished from Best Buy, Apple, etc.. with 8 GB or 16GB Memory (RAM). For more complex use (VMs, multiple web browsers, etc. as noted above) find a 15" M2 MacBook Air refurbished from Best Buy, Apple, etc.; or a 15" M3 MacBook Air new from Best Buy, Apple, etc.. In any case, with more Memory (RAM) (16GB or 24GB) and at least 1TB storage.

I’ve been using the MacBook Air M2 for a while now, and it’s hands-down one of the best tech investments I’ve made. The first thing that stood out was its performance. The M2 chip is incredibly fast—whether I’m working on complex projects, running multiple apps, or editing videos, it never slows down. It keeps up with everything I throw at it, making productivity effortless. Battery life has also been a game-changer. I can work all day, switch to personal projects in the evening, and still have power left. Not having to worry about charging constantly has made a big difference, especially when I’m on the move. Speaking of mobility, the MacBook Air M2 is so light and slim that I can slip it into my bag without even noticing it’s there. It’s portable yet sturdy, striking the perfect balance between form and function. The display is another feature I love. The colors are vivid, and the resolution is so sharp that everything from editing photos to streaming movies looks stunning. It makes working and unwinding more enjoyable. Plus, the fanless design keeps it silent and cool, even when I’m running demanding apps. It’s something I’ve come to appreciate more than I expected. Since I’m already in the Apple ecosystem, the MacBook Air M2 fits in seamlessly. Features like AirDrop and Universal Control make file sharing and multitasking across devices incredibly easy. Everything just works together without any hassle. Overall, this laptop has exceeded my expectations. It’s powerful, portable, and beautifully designed—exactly what I needed. If you’re thinking about upgrading your laptop, the MacBook Air M2 is definitely worth considering.

I’ve been using this MacBook Air for a few months now, and honestly, it has made my daily routine significantly easier. The first thing I noticed was the screen size, which is big, bright, and perfect for having multiple windows open while I work. I take it with me everywhere, and even though it’s a 15-inch laptop, it still feels incredibly light in my bag. What surprised me most was how fast and quiet it is. I can jump between apps, watch videos, and get my work done without hearing a single fan. The battery life is fantastic, too. I charge it at night, and it lasts me the entire day without needing to think about the charger. Overall, this laptop makes everything feel smooth and straightforward. If you’re considering getting one, I can honestly say it’s been worth every penny. Love you Apple!!!

Purchased for my wife for her graduate schooling and she LOVES it! It is simple and easy to use and is very lightweight and powerful! I am a PC guy and refuse to swap to MacOS, but this 15” M2 laptop almost has me getting a second for myself. The display is phenominal! I had initial concers with only 8GB of ram, but with how Apple’s silicon system works, there isn’t an issue running multiple tabs of chrome, safari, and other programs all at once. Great buy and can’t beat the clearance sale !

Such a disappointment. The box and laptop is dirty. Just because it’s on sale, it doesn’t mean they would do my order dirty. I did not wait 3 WHOLE WEEKS just to be disappointed by this. There is also no plastic seal and the sticker is just stuck on the actual box. You could have done better, Best Buy.

The Apple MacBook Air 15” with the M2 chip is a powerhouse of a laptop. The first thing that catches your eye is the stunning Midnight color, which gives it a sleek and elegant appearance. The M2 chip is incredibly fast and efficient, delivering impressive performance for a wide range of tasks. With 8GB of memory and a 512GB SSD, this MacBook Air provides a smooth and responsive experience, whether you’re multitasking, editing photos, or running resource-intensive applications. The SSD ensures fast data access and quick boot times. The 15” Retina display is a visual delight with vibrant colors and sharp details. It’s perfect for watching movies, editing photos, or just browsing the web. The keyboard is comfortable to type on, and the trackpad is precise, making it a joy to use. The MacBook Air also excels in portability. It’s incredibly thin and lightweight, making it easy to carry around. The battery life is impressive, allowing you to work for hours on end without needing to recharge. However, it’s important to note that the 15” size might not be for everyone, as it’s less compact than the traditional 13” MacBook Air. Additionally, while the M2 chip is powerful, it may not be suitable for extremely demanding tasks like video editing or 3D rendering. In summary, the Apple MacBook Air 15” with the M2 chip, 8GB of memory, and a 512GB SSD in Midnight is a top-tier laptop in terms of design, performance, and portability. If you’re in the market for a high-end laptop and don’t need the absolute highest performance, this model is a fantastic choice.

Review of Apple MacBook Air 15" (M2, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD) Rating: ★★★★★ (5 out of 5 stars) An Outstanding Laptop! I recently purchased the MacBook Air 15" with the M2 chip and I’m absolutely impressed with its performance and design. Here are the highlights: Impressive Performance: The M2 chip makes a huge difference. The speed is excellent for everyday tasks like web browsing, working on documents, and watching multimedia content. Even when juggling multiple apps, the MacBook stays smooth and responsive. Stunning Display: The 15.3-inch Retina display is bright and has vibrant colors. It’s perfect for watching movies, editing photos, or just browsing the web. The 2880x1864 resolution is sharp, and the True Tone feature adjusts the lighting based on your surroundings, enhancing the visual experience. Sleek and Lightweight Design: Despite having a larger screen, the MacBook Air is still incredibly light (only 3.3 pounds). It’s easy to carry around and feels premium in hand. The Starlight color option is elegant and modern, which is a nice touch. Excellent Battery Life: With up to 18 hours of video playback, the battery life is more than enough to last you through an entire work or study day. This is especially convenient for those who need to use their laptop for long periods without worrying about charging. Comfortable Keyboard and Trackpad: The keyboard has great feedback, and the trackpad is large and very precise. This makes typing and navigation a comfortable experience, even during extended sessions. MagSafe Charging: It’s so nice to have the MagSafe charger back! It’s convenient and, most importantly, safe since the cable disconnects easily if someone trips over it, preventing any accidental falls. Why I Recommend It: If you’re looking for a powerful, lightweight laptop with a larger screen for productivity, entertainment, or even light editing, this MacBook Air with the M2 chip is a fantastic choice. Even though it’s larger than the 13-inch model, it’s still ultra-portable, and the M2 performance is simply amazing. Plus, the battery lasts so long, which is perfect for those of us who are always on the go. In summary, this is an excellent device for students, professionals, or anyone who needs a reliable and stylish laptop for everyday tasks. It’s definitely worth the investment!

I am starting back college again in the coming months, and finally decided it was the time to get back into the Apple ecosystem (since '08) with a new laptop. I wanted something that would last, and be powerful beyond web browsing and Office apps for many years after I'm done with school. The 15" Macbook Air is a plenty capable little laptop. The M2 chip is very snappy with any app I've used so far. Despite having only 8gb of RAM (which is criminal of Apple in 2024), I have not had any issues in that regard. It's extremely light for it's size, and has an elegant design. If you consider yourself a power user, or require heavy processing power, I would consider a MacBook Pro. Otherwise, this is the perfect setup for light photo/video/music editing.

I recently purchased the MacBook Air 15” (M2) from Best Buy, and the experience was seamless from start to finish. The in-store staff was knowledgeable, helped me compare models, and ensured I got the best deal. The laptop itself is fantastic—lightweight, powerful, and incredibly smooth for multitasking, with a stunning 15-inch Liquid Retina display that makes work and entertainment a pleasure. The M2 chip delivers excellent performance, and the battery lasts all day, making it perfect for on-the-go use. The keyboard is comfortable, the trackpad is responsive, and the speakers are surprisingly immersive, though I do wish it had more ports. Best Buy’s service was great, from checkout to setup assistance, and their return policy gives peace of mind. Highly recommend both the MacBook Air 15” and the shopping experience at Best Buy!

As an avid Mac user who is often on the go, I was eager to get my hands on the new 15-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip. I purchased the blue color version as soon as it was released. After using this laptop as my daily driver for the past few weeks, I'm ready to share my thoughts. For starters, I really appreciate the larger 15-inch display compared to the standard 13-inch MacBook Air. Those extra couple inches make a noticeable difference for getting work done. I tend to have multiple windows and apps open at once, so the additional screen real estate is quite nice. The bezels are slimmer too, so the overall footprint isn't much bigger than before. Performance with the M2 chip has been blazing fast. Everything from web browsing to editing photos feels snappy and responsive. I haven't experienced any slowdowns, even when I have 20+ Chrome tabs open while also running Slack, Spotify and Zoom. The fans barely turn on thanks to the efficiency of the M2 chip. The battery life has also been stellar. I easily get through a full 8-10 hour workday on a single charge with my normal usage of web browsing, emails, documents and streaming audio. The fast charging capability is handy for quickly topping up the battery before heading out. While I love the new 15-inch size, the increased weight is noticeable coming from a 13-inch Air. It's not overly heavy by any means, but definitely feels more substantial on my lap and in my backpack. However, the build quality remains excellent with the aluminum unibody that Apple is known for. Overall, I highly recommend the 15-inch MacBook Air M2 for anyone who wants a larger screen and improved performance in a slim and portable design. It offers the perfect balance of portability and productivity.
