    Fantastic Computer!

    Posted .

I had purchased this MacBook Air for my wife as a replacement for her Gateway Netbook. The netbook she had was slow and would literally take 5 minutes or more to start up because of the anti-virus software and the slow AMD processor in it. I had just converted myself to a MacBook Pro and convinced my wife she would love the switch to a Mac. Her requirements for a new computer was an 11" screen size, which her netbook had. It also had to be thin, as light as possible and good battery life. If she could get good performance, that was a plus. So I directed her to the MacBook Air 11. The MacBook met all of her requirements, but it she did balk at the price and rightly so. At $999, it is not cheap, especially with only 64 GB of SSD space. To get 128 GB would have been another $200, so we decided to get an external hard drive for her photos, music and movies. I was able to get a Seagate 500 GB hard drive for $60, far cheaper and a better value than the buyup option. Now before you think, well gee, she has to have that plugged in to listen to music. My wife actually uses her iPhone for music listening through headphones, so no concern there. As for movies, she usually just watches on Netflix and if she is traveling, she can just load the movies she wants to watch. The size and weight are just unreal. It's amazing how small and light it is. My wife now carries her MacBook Air everywhere with her in her purse and it doesn't add much to what she carries. As for performance, I'm amazed that it actually starts up much faster than my MacBook Pro that I bought in August 2010. My MacBook has 4GB of RAM and a 2.4Ghz Core2Duo processor. Using the flash memory on the Air has ensured that the performance is fantastic. The lack of a DVD drive doesn't affect my wife as she didn't have one on her netbook and the AirDrive sharing utility on Mac OS X works extremely well if she needs access to a CD Drive. She can just share the one on my MacBook Pro. Battery life has been great at about 4 to 5 hours, which is great for a device so small. The screen and keyboard are what you would expect from a MacBook. The only features I would have liked on the Air are the backlit keyboard, an SD card slot and maybe a firewire port. Not sure that the firewire port could have fit, but maybe an SD card slot would work. Also, it would have been nice if 128 GB was the starting SSD size, though I know that would raise the price. But these are all nice to haves for me, but not deal breakers. So I guess what I am saying, is that if you can afford it, definitely get a MacBook Air. You truly won't regret the purchase after using it for a week.

    amazing laptop

this is the first mac i've owned and i am more than satisfied. the display is great and its extremely easy to get used to. at first i wasnt sure if i wanted one considering the fact that repairs can get expensive if you dont buy the extended warranty and because ive been a pc user all my life. but after i played with one in a best buy store a few times and found out that its nearly impossibe to get a virus on it i decided to buy it and i couldnt be happier. i would like to address a few complaints ive seen for people who may be like i was and are trying to make that final decision. 1) yes, its expensive but compared to other mac laptops its the cheapest new one you can get, so if youre trying to buy on a small budget, dont look at any new mac products, if youre dying for a mac buy a used older model, if not, prepare to pay the price, its well worth it if thats what you decide to do. 2) yes, it only has 2 usb ports and theyre small along with one port for head phones, one for the charger and another mini display port but its the smallest mac laptop ever built, you should expect a few sacrifices like fewer ports. im using it for school and for me its not a problem, if youre a type of person that needs more you may want to consider a macbook pro or another laptop. 3) yes, it only has 64GB but again ITS TINY! though its super small you can upgrade to 128 GB but you will pay for it. you can also get a 13.3 inch MBA and its has up to 256GB. 4) no it doesnt have a cd drive, but you can buy external ones. i dont use one very often and can work around that but if youre one that uses it quite frequently you may want to buy an external one or look for other laptops. ive tried to go over just about everything i can think of that ive seen or heard about the mac that others didnt like and ive also tried to put in what i think is great about it. it has a great battery life, its fast, its very small ( though it has a full sized keyboard and amazing wide screen so you feel like youre using a full sized laptop, not an 11 inch) its just perfect! its a fantastic laptop and i wouldnt go back to pc, even if they are cheaper =] hope this helped!

    Another Apple Masterpiece!

    Posted .

I purchased the new MacBook Air 11.6" as an additional computer in my house as I already have a MacBook 13". I must say Apple knows what their customers want. This computer does everything and does it well. First thing you notice is the beautiful, sleek, modern design that Apple is known for. The 11.6" is just a bit over 2 lbs and is super thin and ultra portable. The look and finish is just like any other MacBook. Great keyboard, excellent screen and super fast. It would've been nice if they put the new Intel core i- processors but the 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo along with the 2GB of Ram keep this computer running multiple programs with blazing fast speed. I don't use this computer for gaming but I doubt gamers will look at this. The solid state drive works well and most would laugh at the 64GB of storage but in this day and age everyone has external hard drives and with the popularity of cloud computing you really don't need such large hard drives anymore. This feature allows them to make this product very small, thin, and light. Battery life is about 4-5 hrs of continuous use which is decent for a small laptop/netbook. There is barely any heat produced from this laptop which is amazing.

    WOW

This thing is fast. Don't think of this as a netbook... its not. Its a moderately fast laptop (at a premium laptop price lol). However what you get with that price tag is a dual bootable laptop that easily does all office, email and web surfing tasks thrown at it with no slowdown. Of course the form factor and style are outstanding and the build quality is amazing. I'm a Windows 7 fan but I wanted to get into Mac OS X. This is a great mechanism to do that. I have the 64 GB flash drive split in half a using Bootcamp to dual boot. Works great and I used a USB drive to install Windows 7 Ultimate which runs super fast. Really... its fast. I use Windows 7 for VPN and RDCing into work and it works flawlessly. Currently I am in love with this machine. Really its that great. It isn't cheap but the flexibility of having both OS's, the small and stylish form factor, the complete lack of any CPU sound and the outstanding performance really sells it. You won't be disappointed if you splurge!

    This will surprise you!

1.4GHz Dual Core doesn't sound like much but pair that with a SSD and an Nvidia graphics chip and you will be impressed. This laptop has blown me away. It has exceeded my expectations in every way. It runs Adobe CS5 Flash, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop like a champ. I installed Call of Duty for a laugh and it plays it at about 40fps! I thought it would be jerky and unplayable but this MacAir can GAME!! The new stereo speakers sound fantastic and the machine runs silent and cool. No keyboard backlight or SD card reader but I don't really miss either one. The 16:9 display ratio and pixel density really make movies look great! I was on the fence about buying this and now I'm so glad did.

Best Computer I have ever had

    Posted .

Hands down this is the best Laptop I have ever had, ! Definitely worth every penny. The screen resolution is great, It is light, it is fast, it is convenient, Windows 7 and Office 2010 run perfect with Bootcamp, and all the windows drivers for mac get installed easily, easier than on an actual Windows PC. It has some of the advantages of the iPhone and Ipad (with the touchpad) and it still has the feel of a laptop. No need for a lot of ram 2 megs is OK. Office 2011 for mac is great for this machine it has an excellent integration with Office Live documents so no need for additional disk storage on the laptop cloud computing has a fan with this machine. I recommend buying the Optical CD drive if you are going to use bootcamp.

MacBook Air always is the best

    Posted .

I bought this for my wife because it is very sleek in style, solid in structure and have a powerful processing power which is enough for her needs. This laptop never failed in almost every aspect. The aluminum build is solid just like the other MacBook/Pro even with it's delicate looking structure. OS is fast and stable, the programs installed are very useful. It links easily with other laptop if it needs to use the CD/DVD-ROM. The memory is enough for the daily use of it. Sound is great, network connectivity is very sensitive. The screen is bright & crisp. What I don't like about the screen is that it is not made like the MacBook/Pro that has a glass like shiny screen. This one has almost like an LCD screen feel to it. The video camera is in low quality, although it takes decent looking pictures but if used in FaceTime or Video it tends to be a little bit choppy or pixelated. Overall this product matched with a Manila Envelope Sleeve makes it a great and attractive product.

Great for a beginner in Apple...

    Posted .

The AIR is pretty slim and looks great, easy to use and performs powerfully. The magnetic charging connection snaps on soundly to charge the laptop, and the speed of the computer is very fast with the SnowLeopard upgrade it comes with. The only major cons that I can ever come up with this model is the components you can't use with it. It does not have a CAT/ ethernet connection plug... it is purely wireless for internet. Which if you have wifi then it won't be a problem for you, but if you are traveling person that needs to hook up to a land line for internet you are going to be SOL. The last con I can tell you about is the fact that it DOES NOT come with a D drive... so no CDs/ DVDs/ etc. unless you purchase the separate AIRPORT USB D drive. Other than those two major Cons this is a very compact-fast-portable-user friendly computer. It is great for casual and beginner use, if you are thinking of getting a laptop for someone that hasn't owned one before this model is perfect. It starts directly with step by step video instructions to teach anyone who turns this computer on for the first time how to use it and then from there it is all down hill.

    Yet another GREAT Apple product!

    Posted .

This was purchased for my wife as a Christmas present and she couldn't be happier! This is her second Apple laptop (previously had a 13" Black MacBook-last year model to have black as an option) and I own approximately 15 Apple products. Although they are a little more than most comparable products you do indeed get what you pay for! I've never had any serious issues whatsoever with an Apple product. If you're looking for the perfect take anywhere, lay in bed and browse, set on the couch and browse, light as a feather laptop-THIS IS IT! Stop hesitating and purchase.

    Great MacBook Air

I love the size of this thing!! So easy to handle. I can actually stick it in my handbag and barely feel it in there. I only buy Macs so naturally when I started shopping for a laptop, I took a look at this notebook. It has everything I need in a smaller package. This was a good investment for me. I'm in a Master's program and it has come in quite handy. I highly recommend this product!!!!!

    My first apple product

    Posted .

I purchased this as a gift for my dad since he travels a lot on business internationally. I had the opportunity to play around with it for a couple of days and was very impressed with the performance, appearence and ease of operation. This is my first apple product and am looking forward for another purchase for myself. The only limitation if i could add was the disk space, i got a 64 GB flash drive and wish i could have got a 128 GB for the same price.

This is my for Mac ever, been a PC all my life till i finally made the switch, its been 3 weeks since ive purchased the base MBA 11" all i have to say is im very satisfied with my purchase, ive been wanting to get a Mac for the longest time but it was always the premium price tag that always kept me from going for it until now I finally made the jumped..upon first boot its quick very very quick especially for an 11" laptop and yes its a LAPTOP full blown LAPTOP not a netbook, the C2D processor works very well with this machine, still very quick ,everything is just very fluid and much easier to navigate. Coming from windows i thought i was going to have a very hard time getting used to OSX but it is very easy and straight forward, display is awesome nice and crisp hd videos rock and with the nvidia graphics it plays it perfectly..Keyboard & trackpad is perfect though backlit keys wouldve been nice but its not a deal breaker. Battery life is pretty good but you gotta know how to utilize it to get the most of your battery. I got the 64gb flash ssd i was a bit worried itd be too little storage but i keep a 500gb portable Hd so it was no problem for me, surfing the web using apps all quick and snappy.Size is just supper thin and super light very convient and very very portable for 999 its not the best value out there BUT you get so much positive things out of the machine... Overall i am very happy and satisfied with it, being a first time MAC user as of right now i dont see myself moving back to PC as my main operating system Its true once you go MAC no going back

    Great Price, What I Expected

    Posted .

Great Product. You cant beat the price for the 11" MacBook Air. I love the solid state hard drive, this computer makes no noise, doesn't get hot and still performs amazingly. I was a bit skeptical at first, due to what appeared to be an underpowered processor, but it utilizes the power it has so well that you don't even notice. As far as surfing the web, downloading music, watching online videos, this computer goes above and beyond. I am not into computer gaming, so I can't comment on that, but for basic tasks I couldn't ask for much more.

The best laptop I ever had

    Posted .

Overall, I love this computer. I was a little bit skeptical about buying it in the first place, because I have never owned a Mac (and the Mac I was used to was the old-school version, which I was not a fan of). But I have heard so many good things about Mac computers, and that they have awesome touch-pads and programs, and that they didn't get viruses, I decided to go ahead and get one. I'm glad I did. I just wish I would've gotten one earlier, instead of wasting my money on the other trash laptops I had in the past.

It has changed the way I use my computer

    Posted .

It has truly changed the way I use my computer. It's lightweight, very fast, and has a good battery life. I no longer hesitate to use it any time for any thing. Just open the lid and it's on - as close to an instantaneous experience as I need. Switching users? Same thing: instantaneous. And the wireless reception is noticeably better than my MacBook Pro, iPad, and iPhone. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for something more than the iPad but not necessarily a full-sized laptop.

    I love my first mac!!!

    Posted .

I decided to purchase a mac after I had to reformat my 8 month old Toshiba because of virus issues. Everyone kept telling me that macs are a little more resistant to viruses. Everytime I would stop by Best Buy, I would end up spending time tinkering around with the macs. I chose the mac air 11" because of it's portability and flash drives. I'm surprised at how fast the thing is. It performs faster than my Toshiba, with dual core processor and 4 gigs of ram with 320 gig HD. I had some issues the first week of ownership with the screen being blank when opening, so I had the apple techs check it out and everything is running great (just had to restart a couple times). I love how fast the start up is. Since the mac air doesn't have a built in card reader, I had to buy one, just to read my SD cards from my camera. Also, even though I don't use discs much, I bought the external optical drive. It's also a good idea to buy an external hard drive for backing up the computer. I will be purchasing the plane adapter for my air travels. I still use my Toshiba just for the fact that I love using windows 7 (even though mac can run windows 7 too with bootcamp) and all the programs I have loaded in it. I don't hate pc's but I love my mac. Overall, learning how to use the OS was pretty easy. Finding files is much easier. If you're looking for a laptop that's lightweight and portable, and have a little more money to spend, try the mac air out.

    MACAIR 11" laptop, unbelievable technology.

    Posted .

MACAIR 11" is a just outstanding technology. While in Master of Science School during 2005 & 2006, I thought to make hard drive obsolete. This model of MAC did what I have been thinking for years. I also was thinking to have make entire computer operation through RAM - may next model will be the one that runs only on RAM not on any other storage memory. That will bring a true revolt in technology. Power supply connector is magnetic - go figure that out. May be other models also have the same but this is my 1st Mac Laptop and I am very impressed with it. ****I soon will garbage my old 7 Windows systems. For this model, everything is just perfect. What a work of Genius Brain. I give 5 *'s to this model.

    Glad I made the purchase

I went to the Bestbuy at Iwilei and was very pleased with the service. A representative of Apple was there and answered all my questions and I didn't feel pressured in buying the Macbook Air. When I finally made the decision the sales person did an outstanding job too. The Macbook Air is easy to use and the setup was a breeze. This is the first laptop I purchase from Mac although I got the IPAD. I am glad I made the purchase and look forward to using this for a long time.
