    Disappointment

I purchased the first Macintosh in 1984 (128k memory, single 400k disk drive), and have been buying Macs over the last 34 years. I upgraded from my 2012 MacAir to this "late 2017" MacBook Pro because my MacAir can't upgrade to OS Mojave (it will be limited to the last update of High Sierra). This new MacBook Pro is a disappointing upgrade. The speed is not what I was hoping for. It does load applications faster, but it's not enough of a speed increase to justify spending over a thousand dollars for a new computer. It has the same amount of RAM and the same size SSD as my MacAir. The faster RAM and SSD are part of why this is a faster machine - but again, when it comes to the way I use it (and I think I'm an average type of user) the speed increase is not really that noticeable. It also weighs almost exactly what my MacAir weighs. It does have a little smaller footprint. The biggest plus is the Retina screen resolution - but again, not that noticeable when it comes to actually working in applications like an office suite, browser, PDF editor, etc. If most of your work is video, photos or graphics related - the retina screen resolution is a huge plus. If you've got a 2012 or later MacBook Pro or Air that WILL upgrade to OS Mojave, I'd suggest keeping it a while longer and upgrading in a couple of years from now. This upgrade wasn't worth the money I put into it. And this is coming from a die-hard Mac fan.

I've been a Windows user all my life, so when the opportunity presented itself to upgrade, I thought of giving this MacBook Pro a shot. Now, the only heavy application I ever run on this MacBook is Chrome, and heavy because I have multiple tabs open simultaneously (because of the nature of my work). The base of the machine heats up 15-20 minutes after use, then cools down after a while and then heats up again. Now, one might argue that it's because of the number of tabs in Chrome that I have open simultaneously, to which I'll respond by saying that I have never ever faced this issue of overheating on a new Windows machine i.e. not before 3-4 years of use. For this reason, this model did not meet my expectations, though MacBook was highly recommended by my peers over a Windows machine. The issue could be with this model only, so if you're fixated on giving your money to Apple, then I'd suggest you look at other MacBook models and/or google the problems I've mentioned above for further clarification.

Same Price, Less Connectivity, Not So Great

After a Month of use: The New MacBook Pro is certainly the standard in Apple OS and software, but now lacks many of the ports it used to offer. As you get 2 USB-C ports and a hardwired headphone jack, you have to buy another adapter for $99 to $150 just to get the other ports you used to have on an older Mac. The newly designed keyboard is sunken into the design of the layout instead of a raised keyboard like older models. While this takes some getting used to, the unavoidable loud clacking of the keys are not a favorite and the glowing Apple on the lid when it's open is no longer there. It was replaced with a standard smooth Apple with no illumination. So if you're in the market for a new MacBook Pro, you're going to be in for a big surprise with the design - either you're going to love it or hate it.

    3.5 - Everything's great but the keyboard

As you might be aware, Apple redesigned the keyboard for its MacBooks and MacBook Pros - the new "butterfly" design is the subject of a class action and now a free repair program. My left Shift key no longer functions, but I am availing myself of the free repair. Other than the keyboard risk, the computer gets top marks. It is, otherwise everything you'd expect from an Apple product - great functionality, plays nice with other Apple products, and costs more than a comparable Windows PC. If you're already in the Apple ecosystem, or if you're as baffled as I am by the hot mess of an OS that is Windows 10, this is a worthwhile product - provided Apple continues with the free keyboard repair program.

Better than the new MacBook Air (and other models)

Although this model is slightly heavier than the new MacBook air, it is better than the new MacBook Air in almost every aspect, except for a newer keyboard version. The small price difference is totally worth it, if you want/need to be in Apple EcoSystem. Unfortunately, the current MacBook Pro machines are not as flexible as previous generation: no MagSafe charging, very few ports - and all of them are USB-C. I would argue they no longer are worthy of the title "Pro".

It's got a good build quality which I expect in an expensive machine like this. It also looks beautiful. I got the entry model with 256 gb upgrade. 2 USB-c ports are a huge nuisance- expect to use a hub for everything. Battery life lasts about 3-5 hours... even less if you try to game. I'm indifferent about the butterfly keyboard, but I am using my bluetooth keyboard more while having the machine docked to a monitor. If you really reallly want a MBP, get the 15 inch one: it's got more usb ports and easier to read. i assume that the battery life would be better (IMO).

I want to give my Mac a higher rating because I was so stoked to get one but the first day I purchased it and started Setting it up, it glitched and had this digitalized screen for a brief second before starting it up each time. It still does it! I feel like a brand new computer shouldn’t do that. When I took it in for Apple to look at it, they said it is a normal thing for these newer computers. I am On the fence about recommending it. The older ones absolutely but these newer ones make me Nervous. Not to mention how annoying it is that you have to purchase the new connecter for the usb

This is a nice machine, no doubt. However, for so many reasons I think it is a downgrade from my 2013 MacBook Pro that I replaced. Yes, it is faster than my old one. And of course the battery lasts longer (because it is new). But I preferred everything else about the 2013 model. Most notably the fact that the old MacBook had sufficient ports so that external dongles were not needed. I would still recommend the computer, but it is not nearly the machine my old one was.

I was looking for a much faster lap top so I bought the apple MacBook Pro for $1500; however, I was disappointed. The MacBook Pro was not much faster than my old Toshiba lap top. Although the MacBook is a better product but not worth $1500. Also the battery life did not come near the 10 hours of use that apple claims. I average only about 6.5 hours of use before it needs to be recharged. I would not buy this product again. It's over priced and over hyped. At $1500 you are buying the name. It's not worth it.

The Macbook Pro is very nice. The speakers are surprisingly amazing and the build quality is of top notch. But, the fan noise is a dealbreaker to me. It is quite loud when you have many applications going on and you're in a quiet room. I also didn't really like the keyboard and how stiff it felt. Also, when you're typing, it is very loud. Overall, it is a so-so product if you can deal with the somewhat loud fan noise and meh keyboard. I deducted one star for the fan and one for the keyboard.

I understand that getting an apple is not for the hardware specs but for the OS it contains, but it really is getting old. I've had two macbook pros before this and they were both fantastic in terms of helping me stay productive in school. The weight and build quality on these pros can't be beat but we are starting to see other laptops with much better specs catch up. I am now using an MSI GS65 stealth thin as it does everything the macbook pro can and much more.

Everything is great by al Apple product but the problem i am facing is its getting really hot when i put this on my lap and run some program which is cpu intensive . I called Apple support and was told that laptops are not be put on lap and should be put on some solid platform to avoid this situation. Its strange answer from Apple support but i will keep an eye on how much it bothers and will take course of action accordingly,

I’m an apple product user so there was no question, when I was looking for a new computer that i would be coming home with a Mac. I love my computer and it definitely does what I need it to. The Mac being able to connect to my phone so I can text from the computer is a really nice feature. Though I believe these computers are slightly over priced I would still recommend it to an apple product user.

I wanted a MacBook Pro last year but I felt the price didn’t match the specs. I got this because I felt the price matched the specs. To be honest, I prefer my HP Spectre. I just like the convenience of getting my calls and text messages on my computer. Don’t dish the it money on the current machines if it’s not on sale (saved more than 20% here). Pay full price for the next edition if you can wait.

Replaced my 5 year old MacBook Pro and it seems very little has changed except price has gone up. Seems like Apple has had very little innovation in this time period. I have been a dedicated Apple user for 15 years and I no longer believe it is worth the price premium over a quality Windows based laptop. Hopefully this computer will hold up as long as the last one.

I have always owned PC machine’s - finally purchased a MacBook and Apple doesn’t make a dongle to go with it. I have been forced to use after market devices to connect USB, Ethernet, and HDMI. I haven’t found a solid solution yet. The laptop is good but Apple should provide an Apple approved hub to connect your devices.

Apple insists on gluing and/or soldering everything in place. Although this makes for a sturdy device, it is quite annoying that I will not be able to increase the storage space without purchasing an entirely new laptop. I knew this going in and choose it anyway. I found ways to use external devices for iPhone backup and music storage

I downloaded Spotify on my laptop and tried to access websites for movies but that created junk files. So many junk files were created that I couldn't use my laptop because it froze for a good hour and wouldn't shut off because Safari was keeping me from shutting it down. The person that sold me the laptop said that it automatically came with a built in antivirus protector system, which was false.

Computer started to shut down on its own after 4 weeks of purchase date. It was too late to return it to best buy. I think Best Buy should extend the return policy dates. Since I am a student, I could not send my computer to APPLE during my final week. It shut down while I was taking a timed exam. Thank GOD I was still able to continue with the exam after I reboot it back.

I wish I would have paid more attention to the item description. This thing only comes with two Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports in which you have to buy adapters for EVERYTHING! I love the machine itself. It's super fast and efficient. I just don't like that they removed the old USB ports and HDMI port. I guess I'll have to spend another $100-200 on adapters...
