When you spend $2,000 on a computer you expect it to “just work”, no? Especially a Mac which has all the accolades and bragging under its belt. In this case initial impressions are severely disappointing.
My only hope is that this will run for 10 years so I don’t have to buy a another computer AND we will see the rise of standardized USB-C ports on everything.
CONS:
Why is this model more expensive than the newer one, you might ask? Well it has FOUR PORTS and one is for charging, but wait; the NEW model that costs less has TWO, so definitely get this one before it’s gone. A MacBook PRO with TWO ports? One has to be used for charging..... Let that sink in. What a rip off apple. Seriously? I don’t care if you can make everything wireless. Stop being so selfish, lol.
Then comes the other fun. The first week we have it the keyboard just stops working. I had to research and dig through every forum to find a way to fix it. We updated the Mac. We reset the SCM. Then finally we found a set of files that are hidden that you can delete to remove all user preferences and possible ruin the computer, but it fixed the keyboard.
Then later this week the sleek and glorious looking metal machine got so hot you could bake an egg on it while multi tasking. We also had problems with the sound and it wasn’t working. We had to restart seven times and then it suddenly did.
It has nothing besides USB-C and a HEADPHONE JACK. I don’t understand why there is no standardization on Apple products anymore.
Touch Bar...why. There should be an option for this somewhat asinine feature. Like more USB ports or an SD Card reader instead.
DONGLES. I hate them. Why. Why does everything need a dongle now. Want to plug into a TV? Dongle (or special $40 cord). Want to plug in an SD card reader? Dongle or special cord. Want to plug in a hard drive? Dongle....or special cord.
PROS:
The screen looks like liquid clarity. It’s smooth and sleek. You can see every detail beautifully and it’s glass so you can clean it GENTLY and not scratch it quite as easy as plastic. It’s also a IPS display so it does look cheap and the glare is reduced from the fact you don’t have a a thick piece of glass over the screen.
The build quality seems to be top notch. I know I’ll have to see over time, but it’s one of the things you can usually count on for Apple Products.
Mac OS is getting better over time. The updates make it more and more like the best parts of Windows you secretly wish you had as pretentious....err umm...PRESTIGIOUS Mac owner that you are. ;-)
Touch ID, I love you. Save all my passwords and scan my finger on a whim for checkout so I can spend my money buying toilet paper using Apple Pay.
Bottom Line:
Time will fell with this machine if it pays for itself. It definitely is more of a “long game” type of scenario. The lack or ports and fairly standard features for a Mac make it impressive yet leave you longing for just a bit more. Now. If it runs great for 8 years and slows down at about 10, then I consider it a success.
I’ll be sure to keep you all informed.

This is the 3rd MacBook Pro I've purchased for my college nieces. It's a perfect graduation gift that they'll use for college. One niece has had the same MacBook for 6 years so they last.
They are easy to use, super easy to connect to the internet. We didn't purchase the Windows package, because they receive discounts for it in college.
I purchased the extended warranty for the first 2 I purchased but didn't use it. We didn't purchase it on the 3rd on!

Having used the 15" MacBook Pro for a few years made the decision to go to the 13". Find it much lighter but no other noticeable problems. Beyond belief how much easier it is to handle when on the road. With new OS Catalina had a lot to learn with it being new too but find Apple right there to get me into the new laptop with the new OS. I enjoy the smaller desktop because the screen is so clear and bright I hardly miss the larger one.

I’ve been going back and forth between a own Microsoft products and Mac products (yes I know a PC Stands for personal computer)... but I have to say that I can’t see myself going back to a Microsoft PC anytime soon. I absolutely love my knee MacBook Pro, it works perfectly how and when it’s supposed to without any lagging or hiccups. Shipping was great and the Best Buy Black Friday price point was... well on point!

Great upgrade from my Air

I upgraded from my mid-2013 Air. The I5 quad core makes a speedy difference for typical daily use. I'm still on the fence regarding the touch bar; not making much use of it. The MCP has crashed and rebooted on me 2-3 time so far, and I wasn't doing anything intensive (reading email & browsing the Internet). Hope Catalina will improve stability. I bought MCP on sale, good deal if you can get it for less then $1600.
