Excellent Machine, Even From a Windows Guy

I've been a Windows user my entire life, from Windows 98 to Windows 10. I'm also an information systems professional, so I've had plenty of experience with various computers (laptops, desktops, netbooks, etc.) and a variety of operating systems, including Linux. The Mac, however, was still untested water for me, as I hadn't used a Mac in any work/school environment previously. A few years ago, I purchased a MacBook Air (when they were white and made a 11.6" model), and ended up returning it within a week, as I wasn't impressed with the build quality and was unfamiliar with the OS; I exchanged it for a Dell XPS 13, which was much more impressive to me at the time. This MacBook Pro, however, was substantially better than the old MacBook Air from 2015 (and it costed $1,000 more as well), but after testing a friend's 15" model, I decided to go ahead and make the purchase. In one word, the MacBook Pro is beautiful. The all-aluminum build quality is nice looking and sturdy, and the overall look and feel of MacOS is nice. The keyboard, which many seem to complain about, is personally one of the best-feeling keyboards I've ever used, as I really enjoy typing on the short-travel butterfly keyboard. I just hope I don't experience any of the key-sticking issues that many reviewers note. In addition, the trackpad is excellent, and the touch bar is a nice addition; however, it is over-hyped in my opinion, as I rarely use it for anything other than adjusting the volume and brightness of my screen. This machine is powerful enough for most everyday activities, such as web browsing and word processing, photo editing, light video editing, and many developer activities, but for those of you who are looking to do major video editing with Final Cut Pro or develop large-scale programs, I would step it up to the model with an i7 and 16gb of RAM. After getting used to the OS, I actually prefer it over Windows 10, but there is a bit of a learning curve and I still struggle with performing some tasks that I am accustomed to doing easily in Windows (probably just a force of habit, as MacOS seems easier to use overall). I still believe, however, that the Mac isn't feasible as a full-time machine for developers and technical folks, but if you are looking to make this purchase as a student or someone who looks to write books/papers, do some creative work, or make iOS apps (which was my biggest reason for getting the Mac), this is the machine for you. My experience so far has been good, and I have very few things to complain about with this machine, even though it is my first Mac.

The MacBook Pro with Touch Bar is amazing. Overall build quality is excellent and the layout of the keyboard is a really good. At first I was going to get the non-Touch Bar because a lot of reviews said it was not intuitive and just a gimmick. However, I wanted the quad core so I decided to just pay for the "gimmick bar". After using the touch bar for a week and setting up for each program I use frequently, I have been indoctrinated. It really is something you learn to use and make good use of it. I was at Bestbuy for two hours playing with the 13 and 15 inch side by side. Ultimately the 13 won me over because the screen is more crisp. I freeze frame videos and zoomed in on high res images. The 15" sounded better but that was not a deciding factor. The size for the 15" was a deal breaker because it is big. It's no longer a "laptop" at that size. If you're a gamer and need a 15-17" for screen and hardware, then that makes sense. However, the MacBook Pro is a not a gaming platform and it can't be modded therefore it's really a screen integrated desktop. So what can be better? Apple products are expensive but you know you're getting a quality product. Where they fall behind is innovation. It does bother me that I will not be able to upgrade components so that is why I purchased the highest grade I was able to afford. At this price point, it should include other Apple capabilities such as facial recognition and ability to use Apple Pen on trackpad. Also possibility with front facing camera to record directly to iMovie. Down side of this product is cooling. On average the MacBook runs cool. I can use it on my lap and don't feel any heat. Once I start playing Metro 2033 Redux, it gets hot, really hot! I presume it may be the same when rendering hi-res graphics because the process is tasking.

After testing this machine for 24 hours, I could tell you this machine is quite powerful and impressing. I will tell you both the advantages and disadvantages. Advantages: 1. screen displays amazing color. you can tell it from parameters, because delta is smaller than 0.4. The color is unbeatable. 2.quiet. I used it to watch 4k movie. Although it is hot in touch bar area , fans are unexpected quiet. I was determined to buy the older and cheaper 2017 without bar model but doubted it will be noisy. 3.more thunderbolts. You might think it is not that important cause two are enough, but the truth is you never know what devices you are going to connected. 4.keyboard. I'm just the guy who hate typing in great force ,this is personal. Disadvantages 1. sound. I don't know if it is the common issue or just my case. The sound is too sharp especially when I play human voice. Compared to my 2016 ipad pro, it sucks!!! 2.touchbar. It is not only useless but also disturbing. Choosing word by touchbar makes me look like old people with bad eyesight. I have to convince myself that touchbar is designed to force users switching eyesight between the screen and the keyboard, so that they can protect their eyesight. Conclusion: Apple still gives us an excellent choice using six years old appearance. The distance between apple and other winbook is smaller and smaller. Apple macbook fans hope it maintains its position in innovation, but from touchbar, I know there will be no changing your life macbook. This is the final formation of the mac and win books. May be many years later, apple can release new products with project technology.

Great laptop but could do without touch bar

This is, of course, a solid laptop but since I traded up from my MacBook Pro-2015, I can comment on some of the subtle differences. Though the memory and ram are the same, the newer model responds much quicker and processes much faster. I feel it is easier to type on the newer keyboard, though it took some time to adjust to. There is also a noticeable difference in the screen quality. I do not like the fact that there is no USB port. I know we are heading to a time where everything is cloud-based, but we are not there yet. Many people still use a USB port regularly and I find it ridiculous that I have to buy a $20 adapter to use one. As for the touch bar, it is very cool looking, but I have not found it of any use. Actually, I have accidentally tapped it with my pinky several times pressing the ESC key or activating Siri while I am trying to type a paper. I wish I saved $100 and went with the model without the touch bar. All in all, if you have an older model Mac and you want to upgrade it is kind of worth it. But I would not trade my 2015 in yet if I could go back in time.

I picked this up to replace a 2015 Macbook (not pro or air, the 12"). Solid construction with 4 USC B ports, which all dock or charge. The touchbar is a neat toy but not sure how essential it will feel down the line... although I will say Mac features tend to grow on me. When it's use becomes intuitive I'll probably be unable to imagine computing without it. PROS - Solid design, tasks are executed efficiently, keyboard is nice, feels a little more raised than my precious Macbook - which I like. Audio is very nice on this machine, sounds full for laptop speakers. CONS - Price, always an issue with Apple products but I've found they last longer and hold up better. TouchBar at this time is not a con as much as an uncertainty. It's cool but not essential. I am satisfied with this machine.

so I bought the 2017 version a few weeks ago. the day the 2018 version was announced, I immediately returned the 2017 version and got the 2018 version. I really enjoy the True Tone display and also the speed and battery life, I feel like it last's longer then the 2017 version. my only problem was that when I got this one it was getting super HOT like unbearable but Apple since sent an update to address the issue. I highly recommend you get this version. My reason for the 4 stars is because it is a little pricier and the touch bar is a gimmick and that the non-touch bar was not upgraded like this one so I was "forced" to get the touch-bar version. other then that its a great laptop.

I have had several MacBooks from pre-touchbar, initial touchbar wtih butterfly keyboard, and now this version where tweaks were made to the keyboard. I still see marginal value in the touchbar but it is offered without them. The keyboard is slightly better than the initial butterfly-style versions, they have better responsiveness. Other than that, this is the same as MacBooks always have. Great machine, I just took a star off due to expensive adapters (which you will need several of with this most likely) and the keyboard being better but still not as good as other laptop keyboards.

I was getting tired for years of PCs having problems with MSFT Operating Systems having problems with slowness, having problems with being hacked and virus issues, on and on. I have kids that have Apple Mac computers and they never seem to have those issues. Also some friends have the same experiences with Apple computers. Plus we have Apple products including ipods, then iPads and iPhones, and many newer upgrades of these products upgrades. We have had great speed and no viruses with the new Apple. So, overall, we are happy to have made the purchase of Apple MacBook Pro at Best Buy. They helped us with the selection and the purchase at the store.

The hardware is pretty good on this new generation - with exception of the troubled butterfly keyboards. The touchbar is kind of useful, but not a game changer at this moment. The screen and physical aspect of the laptop are stellar. I had a previous 2015 macbook pro and this one feels and looks newer. The speaker sound is vastly improved. I considered the Macbook Air, but for almost the same starting price the Pro is just a better deal.

Everything about this MacBook is what they say it is. I am sure once I get use to switching from Windows I’ll be fine. But they need to provide more guide in the instructions. It was a pamphlet with 3 small pages. The colors do come out clear and bright and it’s lightweight which makes it easy to carry around. The Touch Bar does increase its appeal and works just like the iPad and iPhone with word suggestions. Being able to see and switch between pages without hassle is convenient.

My experience with Apple products is truly that they just work. This MacBook worked well for a few days until I experienced freezing. It has 8GB of RAM, and I would hardly describe myself as an intense user, but the freezing would occur when only 2-3 web pages were open. I decided to return it. When preparing it for return I could not wipe the Hard Drive. I kept getting a message that it could not be performed. The store team was excellent with handling the return and I bought the 15 inch MacBook Pro instead.

I purchased an open box 2018 13" MacBook Pro with the touch bar. While the touch bar is of little value, the fingerprint reader that comes with it is a very nice convenience. The MacBook is built well and very fast. I cannot tell that it was an open box as it appears to be brand new. I feel like I got a great deal on a great product that will last for many years. I deducted a point only because I'd like to see Apple add a touch screen, but the BestBuy experience for this purchase was 5 stars.

Coming from a MacBook Air, this is a really good upgrade. Those additional cores definitely sped up the things I do. The touch bar is a good addition but I believe they can do more to it in the future. My only complaint is that the build quality feels less durable than the previous design. I'm not a fan of the new keyboard design even tho it's already their 3rd revision, it’ll take time to get used to it.

This computer has been solid since I bought it. Its fast and much lighter than my last one. One critique/irritation that I do have with it is the lack of the regular ports laptops usually come with (even my old MacBook Pro had them). I am missing my USB port and HDMI port to say the least from my last laptop and don't really like the idea that I have to buy expensive adaptors for them after just buying a new expensive computer... Its the one major thing that made me knock off a star.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to go back to a windows device such as the new Razer devices that have come out recently like the Blade 15 and Stealth. Personally, I learned how to code on Mac so I didn't want to have to relearn how to set up my computer and do things differently so I stuck with the Apple Ecosystem. If you don't have that kind of restriction your money may be better spend on a bigger faster device such as the new Razer products.

This laptop is a good overall upgrade from my last MacBook, a MacBook Air (2014). I plan to keep this computer for a long time. Its time saving features, and upgraded processing speed, make it worth the price. May be a bit more powerful than I need/will use it for, but will be better for the long run. Still getting used to some of the features, but seems to meet my standards so far.

I replaced my previous 2012 MacBook Pro with the 2018 Touchbar model. For the most part, the computer runs flawlessly, however I have only had it for three weeks and am having issues with the sound not coming through after the computer has fallen asleep. It cannot be fixed in the settings and I am forced to restart my computer which can be a hassle if I have multiple documents open. I would give the computer five stars if not for this issue.

Love my new MacBook. My old MacBook Pro had so many problems since I got it in 2013. It crashed on me so many times and loaded so slowly with everything! Using my new Mac book pro its so fast and such great quality. Super handy for work and research stuff. I love the touch bar! The only thing that sucks is no plug in on the side of the computer for USB stuff. I wish MacBook came with a USB port, but you have to buy that separately. Other than that I love it.

I've been wanting one for a long time. I ended up getting a Mac mini because it was cheaper. The Mac mini served its purpose and I decided to upgrade. I've had the pro for a few weeks now and have yet to have any issues. It's fast and responds when I tell it to. Lol. The only problem is you have to purchase separate devices ton order to hook up any other devices like printers external drives and more. Other than that I would give it 5 stars.

Great overall, typical Mac with high standards for performance. However. The trackpad has some mouse click issues, and the touchbar at one point started tweaking out... flashing at high speed, and left trackpad unresponsive simultaneously. Apple store had never seen it before, neither had geek squad. Brought it back. Have a video, but can’t attach it to this review
