Worth the splurge if you create for a living

I picked up the MacBook Pro (M4) with 36GB of unified memory and a 1TB SSD, and it’s the first laptop that doesn’t make me compromise. Apps open instantly, timelines scrub smoothly, and heavy multitasking (Chrome tabs, Lightroom, Final Cut/Xcode, Slack, Zoom) never slows it down. The M4 chip feels effortlessly fast while staying cool and quiet—even under sustained loads.
The display is stunning: rich contrast, excellent brightness, and super-fluid scrolling that makes long editing sessions easy on the eyes. Speakers are surprisingly full for a laptop, the keyboard is comfortable for long writing sprints, and the trackpad remains best-in-class. Battery life is another highlight; I can work through meetings, edits, and a flight without hugging a charger. Ports cover most of what I need (MagSafe, SD card, HDMI, and multiple high-speed USB-C), so I rarely reach for a dongle.
Is it expensive? Yes. But if your time is valuable and your projects are demanding, the performance, thermals, and build quality justify it. This is the rare machine that feels like an investment rather than a splurge.
Pros:
Blazing performance with generous 36GB memory
Gorgeous, color-accurate display that stays bright
Quiet, cool, and genuinely all-day battery
Great keyboard/trackpad and strong speakers
Useful port selection (SD, HDMI, MagSafe, USB-C)
Cons:
Premium price
Still light on legacy ports (USB-A, etc.)
If you create, compile, or crunch for a living, the MacBook Pro (M4, 36GB/1TB) is a dependable workhorse that pays you back in speed, stability, and battery life.

Overpowered computer for most tasks. Excellent build quality. 16 inch screen is impressive and great for multitasking. Display is superb. Lightning fast. Speakers are loud and clear. Perfect computer for my law firm. Battery life is good. Highly recommend for all tasks but the M4 Max is truly for higher power tasks.

The MacBook Pro 16" is a powerhouse. The display is stunning, the M4 chip delivers lightning-fast performance, and the battery easily lasts all day. Perfect for creative work — video editing, design, multitasking — it handles everything with ease. It’s pricey, but absolutely worth it if you need serious performance in a sleek, reliable package.

Wonderful for AI compared to what's on the market.

Love this thing. Runs 32B AI models very quickly and if you walk away and come back, 70B. Battery life is great normally it lasts for a few days with light work. With AI about 30 minutes. Games that can run on this will run great even if poorly optimized. Having 1TB of storage is very nice; became used to having none on mac. Bit expensive but for what it can do and for what's comparable on the market, can't complain too much. Also got it open box while on sale so got it over 1k off. Also the 16' is much better for thermals than the 14'. With AI it you can still touch the computer, with the 14' it hurts. Overall I say I highly recommend it but for the love of god don't drop it.

I purchased this MacBook to replace my ten year old MacBook. So far it is awesome. Works seamlessly with all of my items like iPhone and iPad. Apple provided a way to transfer all of my data and programs from my old MacBook to my new one with no issues. I have only been using it for a few weeks now, but I love it. I love the fingerprint ID to open all my apps. I would definitely recommend this computer and my purchase through BestBuy was very easy. I sure hope it last as long as my last one which was ten years with no problems. The only reason I upgraded was that it was an intel chip and some of the newer Mac software doesnt support the old chips. If I didnt need the upgraded software I would hav e kept using my old laptop. I get a full day of battery life out of this new one. Although I am not using graphic intensive apps.

Downright solid, beautiful performance, at a price

I am still pretty old school in how I approach buying computers. I tend to run what I buy into the ground before I buy a new one, and I was literally coming from a MacBook Pro 2015 prior to this. The only reason I even moved to a new computer was due to the fact that updates, for even applications like Microsoft Office, were not updating anymore.
That being said, the price tag is a bit hefty - but I am once again very happy with my purchase. I am a software engineer and do not game at all really, so I'm primarily focused on productivity applications and video and photo editing as a hobby
The screen is beautiful, the keyboard is great, and the thing that probably shocked me the most was how resilient the battery is. It lasts a really long time every charge, and that's even with connecting a second monitor for work.
The extra money for the SSD being 1 TB was also a consideration, as my last laptop had a 512 gb SSD and the way things go, space became an issue to balance. Not with this computer.
The 36 GB of memory also has kept all my applications running super fast (even when I leave them open for days), and I am able to run a lot of different things at once without worrying.
In conclusion, I feel to some extent you get what you pay for with things like this. I think about how much I rely on this for so many tasks, and given the life I got out of my last computer, the price tag made me hesitant - but after using it for months now I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Do Apple's M4 MBP's have Quality Control Issues?

My first purchase was an open box 14” MBP M4 Pro. A $2100 laptop. I returned it because the audio was distorted. The audio was muffled, and the audio was unbalanced. The bass frequencies were over-amplified, and the mid-range and treble frequencies were under-amplified. I returned the laptop thinking that it was just a dud.
My second purchase was a new 16” MBP M4 Max. A $3200 laptop. I was very surprised to discover that it’s audio was also distorted. Again, the bass was over-amplified and the mid-range and treble were both under-amplified. And the over-all sound was muffled. It sounded like someone had thrown a blanket over the speakers. This time, I did a little experimentation and discovered that the problem was not with the laptop speakers. The audio had the same unbalanced sound when I used a set of headphones instead of listening via the laptop speakers. I googled the problem and found that others have experienced the same problem. I tried several recommended fixes, but nothing worked. A third party equalizer helped, Boom 3D, but I could never get it to sound natural and balanced without using extreme eq settings which introduced a lot noise and a unique distortion of their own. I concluded that the problem was either in the audio chip or in the audio driver. I never tested the digital audio chips input to see if recorded audio was distorted but the laptop. For all I know, the audio encoder might work just fine. But either the decoding hardware (or software) was definitely sub-standard. I returned the laptop.
My third purchase was identical to my second, a new 16” MBP M4 Max. The audio is better, but not perfect. By using the Boom 3D equalizer, I am able to make the sound somewhat balanced and true. It’s good enough I guess, but it’s a bit disappointing considering that it’s a $3200 laptop (on sale).
But a new problem popped up in laptop number three. The scrolling is not smooth in the web browser. I googled it, and this problem has been reported on and off for a while. The first two laptops had silky smooth scrolling, but this one is noticeably sticky and jerky.
All three laptops were fully updated.
What is up with Apples Quality control on the M4 MBPs ?

I always wanted this laptop because I knew the power of Macbook pro, I run a local LLM and it runs smoothly with long battery life. FYI, I got this laptop for $2000 as a open box excellent condition.

Oh, this machine is a Mac Studio complete with a 16" screen, a keyboard and a trackpad incorporated. It is an absolute beast at processing power and goes with you wherever you want. A bit on the heavy side, but for what it is, it means nothing, comparing to what an exact same system would be on a Mac Studio... just do the math. I'm astonished with it!

My son raves about this MacBook Pro. He uses it mostly for heavy video editing but general use as well. He's more than happy with it. Integrates really nicely if you have an iPhone as text messages, file transfers, etc. are seamless.
If you are trying to decide between the 14" and 16" models, I'd highly recommend 16", especially for editing. You will wish you had if you didn't.

The Space Black MacBook Pro M4 is arguably the most refined Pro laptop Apple has ever made. Its improved power, display, ports, and stunning new finish set it apart for professionals who demand the best. If you need top-tier performance and love that premium Space Black look, this machine stands at the pinnacle of Apple’s offerings—though for more casual users or those prioritizing lightness, the MacBook Air could suffice. This is a best-in-class device for those who need uncompromising capability

I switched from PC laptops to Mac with this purchase after seeing how great the M4 max chip handles programs such as Davinci Resolve and Lightroom/Photoshop. I feel like my productivity and time efficiency has skyrocketed ever since I started working on this thing. The MAX may be a little overkill, but I wanted a little future proofing in there. If you're on the fence between the PRO and the MAX, the Pro is still blazingly fast, but if you don't mind shelling out a little extra for the MAX, you won't be disappointed. Battery life is superb, speed is on fire and the display is just gorgeous and color accurate.
