If your a DJ then this one's for you!

    Posted .

This Is my first Apple ever and i am amazed how you can have a multiple programs running and not see any hesitation or flickering screen. i have a program called Serato using with SL3 (thats a dj program for those who don't know) usually when using operating system vista or windows 7 with Serato would sometimes freeze up for a second if you load to many track songs or even scratching on turn tables, but with this Macbook Pro everything works great! Smoothly and with confidence knowing that when i DJ a party it will never cut out in the middle of a song, well so far so good

I recently got the new Macbook Pro i7 model, and I absolutely love it. I had purchased an HP DV7 machine and after a few days of use, I noticed a lot of fit and finish issues with the case. The deal breaker was the keyboard--the keys felt cheap and the spacebar didn't move/glide easily, it was as if it wasn't put together quite right. I returned it, no questions asked and later picked up a Mac. I think the first thing that I noticed was the keyboard was much better made than on the HP. I type pretty fast (85WPM) and write a lot of papers for classes so I punish my keyboards. The keys on this machine seem to be made of a thicker material than on the HP, and the key travel is perfect. For me, if a laptop doesn't have a well made keyboard then it's a big turn off. The display is nice and crisp. I didn't opt for the 17" because frankly it's just too big. The DV7 model I had previously was too big to leave the house but the 15" is a nice size to take to campus. I use an iPad with it so it all fits and works together quite nicely. The i7 is just so fast compared to anything I've used in the past. Let me give you an example.... I use a Livescribe Pulse Smartpen (Best Buy sells them, btw) and it's been a godsend to me. However, when you first transfer your information to a new laptop, the software has to go through a song-and-dance that can last hours.... it has to "index" all the audio and text that you've done on the pen so that the computer can recognize it in the software. A long story short, the Core i7 "cooked" on this for just under an hour....an amazing feat considering my home iMac (Core 2 Duo 2.66Ghz w/ 4GB RAM) took almost two hours to finish it. The heat wasn't that bad but I didn't have it on my lap. Apple makes probably the most solid laptop I've seen on display. Don't take my word for it, go to your local BB or computer store and look at how solid and well-made each of them are. I'm not even talking software, just the hardware quality alone is noticeable.

    This computer is awesome

I made the switch from PC's just last week. I could not be happier! The display is bright, crisp, and dims depending on the light source in the room. The speed over a PC running Windows is amazing. From off to fully ready to go in under a minute, even after installing several software titles. Try that on a PC. I did go to the Apple Store and upgrade my RAM to 8GB, so I don't know what the 4GB would have done. I figured I needed the RAM for the photo and video editing I am using this for. I love the snap on power connector, the slot DVD, and most of all the back lit keyboard. I don't use the track pad as I got a magic mouse, and love it. Still a little strange not having a right click, but getting used to it! Some of the things I do not like, or wish it had, is a Blu-Ray option, a couple more USB posts (only 2?), and rubber grips on the bottom as it slides a little on my computer desk. If that is all I can complain about, I can't complain! I am very happy with my decision to switch, and you will be too!

    Definitely worth the upgrade

    Posted .

This is my first MacBook after being a PC user my whole life. For anybody considering switching, I would highly recommend it and wish I had done it earlier. The new, upgraded processor (i7) is extremely quick and I have had no problem running any combination of programs. The operating system is easy to learn. It just makes more sense than the Windows setup, plus booting up and closing down are much quicker than a Windows program. It makes it even easier to integrate other Apple products (I have iPhone 4, iPod Classic, iPod Touch). The battery life is very good, even when using wireless and running multiple programs. I haven't had to test it, but the brushed aluminum body looks like it will hold up well over time. It's a good combination of lightweight for the durability that you will get. I chose the 15" version because it's still powerful, but more portable than the 17" model.

    Best laptop made

    Posted .

I have had 2 laptops go out this year so I finally have gotten a mac. THe first thing youll notice is that it only takes 15seconds to boot unlike windows. Now you dont have to give up on windows even as I am running parallels and can run windows programs seamlessly in Mac OSX. The battery life is awesome i can get 4-5 hours with full display brightness while watching hd videos and web surfing. THe laptop also can do its share of computing as I run a WRF model(weather forecasting model built to run on servers). For practial computing I can run a virtual machine, HD video, web browser and IM application without a noticable drop in preformance. Also the fact that I can run any windows, linux, unix, or mac application out there is a big plus in my book possibly at one of each at once.

You can't go wrong with Apple!

    Posted .

This computer is the best laptop I've owned! Previously, I have been a PC user, and had my concerns about switching over to Apple. My concerns have since been put to rest after this purchase. It only took me a few minutes to get acquainted with the different operating system, and it has been smooth sailing from there. Being an Apple, the price tag was more than I really wanted to spend. But I find that if I add up all of the costs of extra software, updates, virus protection, and maintenance, etc. of the PC's, Apple may actually prove to be a value. With this being a business purchase, I have more piece of mind knowing that this is a much more stable operating system than PC. So, I have less fear of system crashes and lost data, and that alone makes it well worth it!! I LOVE IT!

Decent notebook, but overpriced and VERY HOT CPU

    Posted .

Let me start by saying that overall, this notebook is disappointing compared to my expectations. That is not to say it's a bad notebook, but it's not what I expected. For starters, the Best Buy page for this computer clearly states that it has 8-way processing (implying a newer quad-core i7 with hyperthreading) but it does not - it only has a dual-core processor. This is very not cool. The second disappointment is that the CPU is VERY hot. I had to install special software in both Windows and Mac OS X to change the fan configuration to keep the temperature reasonable. For a while, I also had another laptop available with an i7 and it consistently ran 20 to 40 degrees Celsius cooler! That's huge. When gaming (Lord of the Rings Online in Windows via Boot Camp) or using a VM in OS X or doing anything other than trivial stuff like Web browsing, the CPU would sometimes get above 90 C. On benchmarks, I saw it go over 100C, which is ridiculous - even though the CPU is rated at 105 C, there may be other components near it that should not be that hot. Plus it is far to hot at these times to actually use on your lap. This was disappointing because I had intended to choose it over a larger VAIO partly for portability, and when I'm toting it, it will frequently be on my lap, not on a table. My family members could not believe how hot this thing got (and neither could I). Finally, now that Apple is using components that are found in other brands' products, the price difference is just too much. Sony sells certain VAIOs with better i7 processors (quad cores), more RAM, blueray reader, higher resolution, and a better graphics card for half the price. Toshiba and HP likewise sell products with similar specifications for quite a bit less. I thought somebody should post a review that had this information. I've looked on the Internet and I'm definitely not the only one having issues with the heat. HAVING SAID ALL THAT, here are the positive aspects: - The display is gorgeous. - The battery life is very good in Mac OS X. - The quality of build is very good - the unibody construction, while perhaps making the heat problem worse, really makes for a solid unit. The trackpad and keyboard are very nice. Two-finger scrolling even works in Windows! Well done. I may keep this since I can somewhat control the heat with the software I found (Lubbo's Fan Control for Windows and Lobotomo for OS X) and because the unibody is so solid and the 15.4-inch screen is more portable that a lot of other i7 notebooks. Still, if you are considering purchasing this, take my comments above into consideration. For this much money, I'd expect more.

    Great computer, Awesome Performance

    Posted .

I've had this for about a week now and I am a new user to Mac. But I have to say that I have been extremely impressed from opening the box to using the computer. It performs extremely well even if you are doing video or music editing. The battery has lasted for 12 hours for me(browsing internet and ripping music). I don't know what people are talking about them getting hot. If you keep the left side of the laptop clear it doesn't even get warm. If you block the hinge then it will get hot. Simply, make sure it has a clear area and it stays super super cool. I recommend this product for anyone who is wanting to switch from the unreliable PC. I would get this version over the 1999.99 one because it comes with a faster processor and much better graphics card. I have not found one thing that I do not like. The OS is fairly simple and I love the interface. I can't believe I waited this long to switch. (Well price is the reason why but it is worth it trust me.) You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to this.

    One hot machine!

I am a music producer and needed an upgrade from my 6 year old G5. I figured it was about time to become mobile, plus I use Pro Tools and could barely get through a 48 track session. Loaded up the same session on this baby and it handled it like a breeze. I was amazed. Yesterday I got over 6 hours out of the battery. Sure its a bit pricey, but its a Mac. Like I said, I had my G5 for 6 years with no issues and it was even refurbished. Now I use it as an external drive. Not used to the tracking pad yet and use a mouse, but its def cool.

    Pricy but worth it!!!

    Posted .

I have now owned this Macbook pro for 2 months now and if you like performance and consistent operations without problems is impressive. Battery life is as advertised and the operating system is a plus as it is lighter and less of a drag compared to windows. That doesn't mean I still don't use windows however as I have parallels installed on it and it is just as fast in operating the two systems together. If you intend to use both os's together I recommend that u do upgrade to 8 gb of ram and solid state hard drive is a welcoming addition. Overall the quality of the product is nothing but great. I have owned multiple laptops and this one is always a joy to log onto as everything it is expected to be is there. The back lit keyboard is a nice feature and the size of the 15 in is very compact but comfortable compared to most of the computers I have worked with. Now if you aren't someone who focuses on the details and truly appreciate on a computer that was built as a work of art you can easily say that the price tag isn't worth it but if you have the funds available and you want a computer that you can work with and never have to worry about a thing this is the only choice

    MAC Convert for Life!

    Posted .

After using a PC for years, I finally made the leap to a Macbook Pro with 15" display. I regret not doing this years ago. After taking it to my local Apple store and having all of my files migrated to MAC, I am up an running and couldn't be happier. The speed of the the operating system blows away Windows! Also, my old Dell PC got infected with Malware and viruses. The security and stability of the snowleapard OS is greatly enhanced without need for 3rd party protection. The speed is astounding along with the graphics and ease of use. Very user friendly software and I love the video and picture software. I highly advise signing up for Apple's One to One service for $99 for a year's worth of personal assistance from Apple experts. The technical support is a fresh and welcomed change! They are extremely friendly, helpful and speak English! They are actually based in the US, and not some foreign country. The actual build quality of this machine blows away everything on the market today! Great fit and finish and also attractive. I'll never convert back to PC and will be upgrading my desktop to Apple in the future. I can't believe a laptop can be any better. Way to go Apple!

    Superior machine!

    Posted .

I have used PC's since 1985, this is my first Mac. There was a bit of a learning curve for me going to the new operating system, but when it was all said and done, this is a superior machine and a superior operating system. It boots up in less than 30 seconds, has never "froze" on me. I do like the google chrome browser for the Mac more so than Safari. It is " pricey" but you get what you pay for. I returned 3 new pc laptops over the last year due to misc problems, and decided to bite the bullet and get a mac. Best Buy advice and support is wonderful. I did purchase the 3 year warranty as well. I also recommend the specht clear cover case for protection.

I am a reformed PC user the MAC is fast, reliable and I love the desktop scrolling and bookmark pages. I am able to open, view and work within different pages and applications without the constant locking and crashing I experienced with my PC. Additionally, I find the desktop interface extremely user friendly. Also, very impressed with how quickly my web pages load. I love my MAC won't ever go back!

    MacBook Pro

    Posted .

Have only had the MacBook Pro (15" - 2.66 - 4GB) for a month but to date it is a great buy! This is my first Mac and even though I've heard how user friendly they are I was shocked at how truly easy it has ben to set up, operate, etc... I was concerned about the "learning curve" you always hear about...forget about it, it took all of a couple hrs to be upset with myself for having taken so long to purchase a MacBook! I need to mention that the staff @ Best Buy (Park Meadows) have been outstanding...friendly, patient and have been there for me when I do have the occasional question about video editing or whatever. Definitely recommend the MacBook Pro and this Best Buy.

    Awesome Computer

    Posted .

I love this computer! I have always had Windows computers and this is my first Mac and it is very different but very easy to use. This is my second laptop. I originally bought the 13 inch because I travel a lot and needed something small to take with me. However, the 13 inch screen was a little small for me so I upgraded to the 15 inch. This computer is much heavier than the 13 inch but the extra screen size made a huge difference when using it for prolonged periods of time. The 17 inch was just way too large, heavy, and bulky to manage while traveling so I opted for the 15 inch and I'm so happy with my purchase. The graphics are great and it is very fast when connecting to the internet and I can open many different things at once without any problem in speed. I still primarily use my Windows desktop when at home but this is a great computer for on the go! Love it!

    AWESOME!!!!!!!

This is my very first Mac and I'm not sure how I managed without it. After owning many PC's I decided to go to the Apple Store and try out a Mac....It was an absolute dream and the migration from Windows to Mac was practically seamless for me. I tried to find a reason not to make the purchase because of the price and my only regret is not making the switch sooner. I'm thoroughly enjoying every aspect of being a Mac owner.

    Great!!!

    Posted .

This is my first Mac computer, I have an Ipod touch and an Ipad, and was a little bitt worried about the change. I was so easy, this computer is easier, faster, friendly, etc than any windows. If you don't know how to use computers is the best choice, not my case, but I am sure of that. Display is unbelievable, pictures look a lot better than in my old hp. Battery life is not 9 hours as advice, at least not with the configuration I have, using internet, etc. but it can las at 5 hours. Get a cover, at leas a sleeve, the made the computer out Aluminum, so you can scratch it easily.

    Great for home use

This is our first Mac and my wife and I are both very pleased with how well this Macbook works. I never thought it would be so easy to sync our two iphones to the Mac which instantly updates our contacts, calendar, etc. also the size is just right, I believe that the screen is definitely big enough but the computer itself is the right size for easy transportation. also the I7 gives the Macbook great responsiveness. It is quite a bit more than most laptops but it is well worth the extra money.

    Perfect Computer!!

Everything is excellent on this computer, its: fast, great bat life, excellent display (I got the high res tho), the body is a piece of art!, nothing is missing and nothing is bad. I am a switcher from Windows and I love this computer. This thing makes using the computer fun again. Do NOT make the price a factor in your purchase, this was worth every penny!! Buy this computer today, you will NOT be disappointed. If you are deciding on one of these for college, defiantly go for the 15, the 13 is just too small. Much easier for papers and research.

I am not addicted in apple products and its marketing, but this notebook surprised me. One problem in my old notebook's was the fact that it became so hot that it was very uncomfortable to rest the hands on it.. this notebook is made of metal and the warm spread for all surface and have good heat dissipation. The cooler fans works very nice and reduce the temperature very fast. Mac Os X is very cool and fast operational system and could do lot of things without delay in its GUI. Other great thing is that is Unix.. I am big fan of freebsd and linux stuff... so.... for geek computer programmer... lot of gnu application ar also available for mac :)
