    Best Laptop ever

Decided to spend the extra money and get the pro since my wife had the air , too my surprise I walked into Best buy and they had the Pro Retina on sale . Now that I'm able to compare the 2 laptops side by side at home my pro is heavier than my wife's Air but I'm in no way offended by the extra weight . The picture quality is far suppior on the Pro Retina. I'm glad I decided to spend the extra money and get the Pro retina.

    Love My NEW MacBook Pro

I recently bought a new MacBook Pro 13" online through BestBuy.com and picked up my product in store. Although there was a slight mix up at the time of pick up. (I was given a 15" instead of 13"), I was pleased with the quality of service I received online and in the store. BestBuy is my spot for purchasing top of the line electronics.

    Think different.

My Pro with Retina has been great for me. I've had it for about a week, and the screen quality still knocks my socks off. The flash storage makes things very quick and snappy, and I'm able to run everything I want on it. I made the mistake of picking up the 128GB instead of the 256GB, but I don't blame Apple for that.

    Amazing computer for college student

    |
    Posted .

I purchased this MacBook for college, since I needed a computer that could go from 7am to 5pm without needing a charge and it integrates easily with my other Apple products. I was amazed that the battery not only lasted from 7am to 5pm, but continued to go up until I went to sleep around 10pm. That alone justified the price, but then more and more kept adding up to make this purchase seem like I got an amazing deal. For example, the performance is absolutely incredible. I have several other computers in my house, including high-class gaming PCs that just can't compare to the power and efficiency of my MacBook. I was blown away when I saw that this little laptop/ notebook was outperforming every computer I pitted it up against. Apple really stepped it up a notch when they designed this computer, everything is so incredibly fast, and yet the computer is so power efficient that I can't kill the battery with normal use. That being said, I will warn anyone planning to play games like Call of Duty or other big game titles on this, bring your power cords. This MacBook will handle mostly any game with ease, but battery life is cut in half if you're playing COD Multiplayer. Before anything, the first thing you'll notice is how quick the computer starts up. Mine boots and is at the login screen within 10 seconds, and is ready to use immediately after I put in my password. Speaking of screens, the retina display is my favorite feature of the MacBook by far. Anyone with an iPhone or newer iPad (or some android phones) knows how clear those screens look. The display looks exactly the same as my iPhone 5s, and with that comes a warning. Text is incredibly clear, pictures look almost as good as if your eye were the lens of the camera, and movies look absolutely stunning. The warning I mentioned earlier? Well, this display will absolutely spoil you from other displays. Most computer monitors nowadays are 1080p (1920 by 1080), which looks really good. BUT, the MacBook Pro's display is 2560 by 1600. So there are more pixels in this little display than in a 50 inch 1080p HDTV, just something to think about. One thing that you'll probably be surprised to hear, is literally what you can hear from the speakers in this little computer. Laptop/notebook speakers normally have "why bother" speakers built into them, as in "why bother" putting them in the computer in the first place due to their horrible audio quality and volume output. I was pleasantly surprised to put a movie on and have the sound level cause me to jump at 100%, still be too loud at 75%, let's go to 50%, still too loud, 25%, perfect. Anyone who knows anything about sound knows that you can make a speaker go as loud as you want, but it will sound progressively worse and worse as the volume goes up. This is not the case with the MacBook, as even at 100% volume, audio is crystal clear and bass doesn't sound like it's tearing the speaker apart. While is doesn't make the house shake, the bass is plenty good enough to listen to your favorite beats and give you the feeling of having your own little cinema in your lap. The following paragraph is purely for the techies or people worried about their old accessories not working: MacBooks now come standard with USB 3.0 ports (compatible with any USB cable ever made), HDMI (which supports HDCP and outputting up to 4K resolutions), Thunderbolt 2.0 (Apple's version of usb that is ridiculously fast and also capable of outputting 4K resolutions to a display), SDXC card reader (basically any SD card or camera card can be used in this port, and the headphone jack also can use your headphones that have microphones in them as a headset. I have yet to come across an accessory that won't work on this computer. The camera quality leaves a little to be desired, but in a decently-lit room, FaceTime or PhotoBooth selfies should be good enough to use. This is to be expected from a webcam, but it does shoot 720p at 30fps. (if you don't know what this is, don't worry, it is plenty good enough to use as a webcam) The microphones (yes there are two, so you never have to worry about covering one) pickup audio crystal clear and people on FaceTime could hear you just as good even if you were talking across your house. There are so many good things about this computer, I cannot possibly list them all in one review. I'm sure you are wondering what the bad things are after hearing about the good things. And here they are, the display is incredibly bright when maxed out at 100%, almost uncomfortably bright if you are looking at a word document or a website with a lot of text. The keyboard light also can be extremely bright at night or in a dark room, I usually keep mine off during the day/in bright rooms, and turn it to about 50% (8/16 notches) at night. If you are deciding on whether or not to get a MacBook to use for college, I'd say absolutely get this one or the one with more storage. You won't find a computer this size that performs as well, looks as beautiful, or has a battery life like this. This computer feels very solidly made, and I have yet to see a single scratch or nick on the aluminum body or glass display. If the lack of a Blu-ray/DVD/CD drive is really a problem, you can pick a portable USB 3.0 Blu-ray drive on amazon for around $40 plus shipping. I ordered an external USB LG Blu-ray drive and it works fantastically. A big concern with some people is the screen reflecting really bad, especially on glass displays like in phones and tablets. This can be even worse on laptops, but not in this case. If you are sitting in direct sunlight, you can still see the screen without worrying about your face covering your homework. You can easily use this computer outside, and unless the screen is off, you won't see your reflection. Although if you turn the display brightness all the way down, it turns off the backlight. This can be very useful for saving battery life in sunlight, or checking to make sure you still look as good as you did when you last checked a mirror. All in all, if you want a computer with stellar performance, a beautiful display, and unbeatable battery life; I would highly recommend buying this MacBook Pro with Retina Display. You will not be disappointed in anything except the fact that you haven't purchased one sooner. I will recommend that you buy a Blu-ray drive, and an external hard drive if you like having a lot of media on your computer. But I love using this computer and I continue to be impressed by its light-weight, battery life, display, performance, and rock solid feel each time I pick it up and use it. P.S.- If you haven't already, make sure to pick up an Apple TV. You can use your TV as a wireless monitor for your MacBook. Meaning all the awesome movies, tv shows, music, and even games you have on your computer can go up on the big screen with little effort. Enjoy!

    Great Machine

My first Macbook purchase, mainly due to the deployment of Windows 8 and its dominance in the marketplace. I was searching for another option in operating systems and willing to give OS X a shot. I appreciate the detailed and sturdy design, fast operating system and its integration with other IOS systems. Wireless printing was a snap to set up and my other windows network hardware worked flawless with the mac. Communicates well with an AS400 at work using free emulators from the Apple store and also works well with Mac Office 2011. I didn't plan on running a virtual machine, so I went with the 128 SSD. Would advise the 256 SSD if you plan on using Windows along side the OS X just for more storage and you would want a min of 8gb ram. No complaints and a perfect size!

Retina Display The 13.3" display of this MacBook Pro features over 5 million pixels. The pixel density is so high your eyes won't be able to discern individual pixels. Now with a 2560 x 1600 native resolution, you can see more of your high-resolution images onscreen with pixel-for-pixel accuracy. The Retina display also reduces glare while maintaining incredible color and quality. In fact, it has a 29 percent higher contrast ratio than a standard MacBook Pro display. IPS technology gives you a wide, 178-degree view of everything on the screen, so you'll see the difference at practically any angle. Dual-Core 4th-Gen Haswell Intel Core i5 Performance The 4th-gen Haswell Intel Core i5 processor with a state-of-the-art 22-nanometer single-die microarchitecture in this MacBook Pro provides fast dual-core performance. Intel Hyper-Threading technology allows two threads to run simultaneously on each core. The dual cores can run at a stock speed of 2.8 GHz. The processor can be overclocked up to 3.3 GHz, thanks to Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 technology. With a 3MB L3 cache and 8GB of onboard 1600 MHz DDR3L RAM memory, this MacBook Pro can run professional applications like Aperture and Final Cut Pro with ease. Integrated Intel Iris Graphics This MacBook Pro features integrated Intel Iris graphics, which is perfect for both everyday tasks and graphics-intensive creative apps. Scroll through large photo albums with ease. Play games with amazing detail. Even connect an external display or two. All Flash Storage This MacBook Pro feels incredibly fluid and responsive. It's all thanks to its PCIe-based flash storage, which gives you up to 60 percent faster read and write performance than its predecessor. When you use apps like Final Cut Pro or Aperture, you can perform even the most demanding tasks right from your internal storage.

    after deliberation

I had a Dell Inspiron that I didn't like at all, something always seemed to go wrong with it and I almost never got to use it as it was intended to be. I bought the macbook pro with retina after trying to make up my mind for a long time. I wanted to be sure I wasn't buying it just because they are popular but because it was actually the best product for my needs. I asked people I knew and read reviews and ultimately never found someone who truly loved their PC laptop. I already had a good experience with the imac my family has had since 2006 (still running awesome) but had never found a PC that lasted or that I enjoyed. Best buy had a deal on all mac products and I got a coupon as a student for an additional $100 off making the my choice a bit easier. I chose the macbook because of my own preferences and because I never found a PC with that matched what I wanted. Higher specs for a cheaper price never gave me a better experience as I learned with my Dell. I have been using my laptop for about 1 month now and am very pleased with my purchase.

PLUS: My wife took the computer out of the box, used the included program to transfer all of her data from her windows 8 machine to the laptop, installed a printer, got online...All by herself! The main reason she married me was to fix her computer issues, NOW what am I going to do? All she talks about is how easy this machine is to use and to navigate around. CON: I'm out of a job...no...wait...that's actually a plus...I'm now leaving to go fishing because I have extra time from not having to address her "other" machine's issues.

This laptop is fantastic. Have been a Windows person my whole life and wanted to try the Mac because of issues I've had with the Windows operating system. I had also heard many good things about Apple's operating system. Best purchase I've made to date. It's powerful, flexible, allows me to have a ridiculous amount of tabs/applications up/running at the same time with no delay. Highly recommend SSD over hard drive as this will increase speed. Overall, just a great buy. Quick negative: you have to remember this is a Mac. So it will not "talk" to Windows applications very well. I work from home and have to install Word/Excel for Apple, because when using Numbers and Pages and then exporting the files to Word or Excel, it doesn't always convert like you would think it would. Still worth the money in my eyes, because it is so much easier to use this laptop that I feel I save time using it instead of my Windows 7 Asus laptop.

Excellent! Love every moment I am using my MACBOOK but I have to ask the special knowledge and expertise of Geek squads, John & Chris. Most of the Gateway Community College computers use microsoft standards so I have to learn the Macbook ways. The only downside was the presence of a Bully supervisor who insulted me when I was in Peoria best buy store trying to get help from the Geek squad, Chris and John. This blond female supervisor did not know that I was there only for 30 minutes prior trying to set up my Macbook. She asked me if I paid the $278. geek squad fee and if not I should leave asap. (Of course I paid the fee! Nothing is free nowadays). Supervisors like her should be reprimanded for insulting good customers like me!!!!! Or best buy might start losing their good customers! I would like to thank the Geek squad for their excellent help, namely John and Chris..........

I have always had pc's, so was a little nervous to switch to a MacBook. After having my HP for less than a year, I had all kinds of problems with the 8.1 update so I decided to say "goodbye" to Microsoft for good and made the leap. I am SO happy that I did! Yes, there's somewhat of a learning curve when switching to a Mac, but once you learn it, you will love it! Beautiful display, user friendly, and all of my "Apple friends" have had their Macs for years, so I'm hoping that mine will last a long time too!

I love this mac! I use it for business, Netflix, social media and music production and it does everything I need it to with ease. I am an owner of an iPhone 6 Plus and they work together seamlessly through iCloud, it is amazing! The display is beautiful and the speakers put out decent sound considering their size. It also has an HDMI port which has come in very handy. The only things I dislike is the fact that it has no disc drive (you can buy an external Apple one for $79 or something around that) and that Apple finds it necessary to change the charger with every generation of new laptops, phones, etc. Overall I give this laptop 5 stars because the pros heavily outweigh the few minor cons of this piece of technology! Between this MacBook Pro and my iPhone I've got to say that I will probably be a loyal Apple customer for life!

    New Mac User

I've grown up with windows based computers for over 25 years and I've rarely ever used a mac. It was slight adjustment from switching over to mac software but within a few days it became second nature to me with navigating, hot keys, etc. The computer works great, has long battery life and has the power and storage I need for work, gaming and everyday use. It has exceeded my expectations with speed and is whisper quiet. The price tag is high but it's well worth the investment.

I have never been an Apple fan until now. This is by far my best experience with a laptop ever! Starting with the top of the line buying experience at the Warwick, RI location with the Apple rep Fernando. He answered all of my questions and concerns about switching a life long Windows user over to Mac. He also matched my needs/wants to this specific machine. Thanks to this laptop, I am no longer worried about finding an outlet at a coffee shop, library, class room, etc....The battery life is great. It is extremely quiet. You can not hear it when its on. It is very light and compact but with just the right screen size to make it easy to take anywhere. It is also very fast. As soon as you turn it on, it's instantly ready to take on any task without any delay. The retina display is definitly worth the extra $$$. Pictures and videos look amazing and text is easier on the eyes. Multitasking is very easy with the trackpad gestures. This has gone so well that I may even consider getting an iPhone...... I can go on and on about this machine but I rather stop and recommend that you go see for yourself.

    FAST!!!

I love my rMBP!!! Super fast and extremely durable. The battery life is amazing too! I always charge my laptop when it gets to about 50% and even then, I only need to charge it like every five days. Can I also say the image display is sexy too? I've owned the laptop for about a month now and I still can't get over how brilliant the imagery and clarity is. Before purchasing this laptop I have heard rumors that Apple was planning on releasing a new laptop soon. But I was without a laptop for awhile so decided to purchase this one anyway, despite my character (I always have to have the latest technology). The rumors are no longer a rumor and Apple plans on releasing its new 12 inch laptop sometime in April. But I don't regret getting this laptop at all. I actually prefer this one over the new one. It has all the ports I need (USB, HDMI, etc.) as opposed to only a single port (yes, I kid you not). Plus, although it's just about an inch smaller, I think the size of my current laptop is absolutely perfect. I would highly recommend this.

    Great transition from a pc

    Posted .

I am a student in college. I'm working on my bachelor of fine arts in game design. I was upset when I heard most of my school work would be on Macs'. I have spent majority of my life on PC; impart that my father is a computer programmer and told me to never go Mac. This is something I needed to to do, but not enthusiastic. I have had my mind blown buy the difference between my gaming pc and this Macbook. First thing to mention is the interface. Normally PCs' take quite a while to boot up and set up. The Mac setup was fast and atheistically pleasing. The hardware works amazingly well with the Operating System. Lightning fast interface is incredible. Second is the app store. I have never seen a laptop with an app store that was worth while. This Laptop has everything you could ever need in app store; it also comes with video and audio apps that blow pcs' out of the water, already installed. Lastly aesthetics. The design and feel of every program and feature are beautiful. If you want eye candy get this laptop, Mac does quality image!
