I was deciding between the new MacBook 12" and this new MacBook Pro Retina. Boy....I'm grateful I did. This is a powerhouse Mac very versatile and portable. You get the best of both worlds; a portable lightweight notebook but with powerful specs. It's thin and light for this type of computer. If you are on the fence between this one and the new MacBook 12", do as I did....go to your local Best Buy and see them side by side.

Great little computer. Physically, it's nice and thin and light. Crisp screen that doesn't flop around. Keyboard is too soft for my liking - not very snappy either. Operations are quick, runs all of the media programs I need. Very pleased.

    First time

It is my first time getting a MacBook, so I didn't really know what to expect. When I first got it, I was still adjusting from PC to Apple; however it is really nice and the display is excellent. Retina display helps a lot with seeing minor details. The battery life is decent. I can stream for about 6-7 hours straight, without needing my battery. It is fairly light, as I've compared with my friends' laptops. I was surprised with its ability to stay connected with other wifi routers, which is a plus for me. I believe this laptop will be with me for awhile. Unfortunately, when I got my first MacBook, a few days later, it was not working. A bug was in my computer system and it would not let me go past the loading screen page. No matter what I tried, it wouldn't work. I tried online resources to help me solve the case; however, none of them worked. So, I had to go back to Best Buy to see if it would get fixed. The workers from Geek Squad told me I could just get a new one (if I wanted to) since it was still within the 14-day return policy, or send it in to get fixed. I went ahead to get a new one because I have had past problems with people trying to fix my old phone. All in all, this laptop is pretty good. I don't know if I would have the knowledge and experience to rate this laptop the best of the best of laptops. But I would definetly reccomend this laptop to other people, if they can afford this. Downside is that apple is very pricey. So far, the new one that I got works well, but I am still skeptical if it ever decides to not work again. But no problems for now.

we purchased the MacBook Pro w/retina display 256 gb for my college freshman daughter. I am used to Windows laptops so this was a switch for me. After doing my homework and reading reviews we decided to buy this one with the higher gb. She loves it and has had no problems so far (purchased in August 2015). When she's asked for my help finding certain functions, I've been able to locate them without spending too much time searching even though I haven't worked with Macs since high school (won't say how long THAT has been but suffice it to say when we got new Color Classics during my senior year we were considered VERY high-tech, haha). It does not have a CD or DVD drive, and the young sales clerk told me this is now standard on Mac laptops as a study revealed most people did not use it. I was not aware of that fact but my teens confirmed they watch mostly Netflix or online streaming. It hasn't been an issue so far for my daughter.

I'm a long time mac owner. My last macbook survived for 6 years and it's still running. I just wanted a new laptop. True to apple form, the laptop is sleek and beautiful. And this retina screen is stunning. When you pair it with a high resolution background, you just want to sit and stare. With the increased hard drive space and decent amount of base ram (8gb), I can see this computer lasting for a long time.

Coming from my mid-2012 non-retina 15" MacBook Pro, this new model is a huge upgrade. The retina display is absolutely great. The only downside is that it has spoiled me from even wanting to look at my Dell Ultrasharp monitors that I used to think were great. The flash-based SSD performs well, and is a noticeable boost from a SATA SSD. The force touch trackpad is great. Everything about this laptop is great.

Amazing laptop for programming in university!

I had a laptop from another company (cannot name here), and it was the top of the series at the time. However, it crashed soon after with WiFi stopping entirely first, followed by requiring an Ethernet to USB adapter instead of just using the Ethernet port directly. Then the battery had a "permanent failure" and I always had to be plugged in. Apple on the other hand has not failed me yet. I usually go for the other side when it comes to phones and the like, but for programming in university, a 13" Macbook Pro is great! It has a solid build and AppleCare takes care of you if anything happens. It's been going strong for a year and still feels new. "brew" is great for quickly installing the packages you need and setting up your Python, Node, and other environments. Beats developing on Windows - I prefer OS X or Linux for programming and Windows for gaming. If you're trying to figure out what laptop to go with for starting university, the Macbook Pro is the way to go. Especially with this model getting replaced with the touch bar (which I find too expensive and not worth the benefits it advertises), you might see a price drop. With the college discounts from Best Buy, you can save a good amount for a laptop that will last you for many years to come. A friend of mine had his Macbook Pro for 6 years and it still runs great.

It's hard to not like Macbooks. The only grip would be the price, but you do get a very well put together machine. It's well thought out, fast and has an amazing screen. There just isn't any one else that comes close. I run just about the entire Adobe CC suite and it runs faster than my 27" iMac. Very happy with my purchase

Runs fast, the weight and size great. Going to be used for college starting next week so haven't really used yet. Was difficult getting the parent share iTunes and calendar, music working. Had to call tech support and Apple Store.

This is my first Apple computer. It was not difficult to master its idiosyncrasies after over 20 years with PCs. I did not bother getting MS Word, but simply learned Pages and am quite happy with it. The Retina Display was worth the extra money, as well as the Mac Pro speed of the processor. I love its long battery life-- goes all day and evening on a single charge. I now am a devoted Apple fan.

Laptop is really in Apple style. Nothing unnecessary included. We were able easily configured everything using apple id. really good integration with IOS. if you IPhone or IPad user, you will find it really easy to start using this laptop. Size 13.3" is close to optimal, and SSD make computer boots very fast. I greatly recommend this laptop for everyone who doesn't huge power and a lot of memory

I liked my PC but Mac is my industry standard, so I switched. I am obsessed with my Mac. The retina display is beautiful, I love the keyboard (I'm very picky about keyboards) and the overall layout of Mac is much simpler and user friendly. I use the Adobe suite on a regular basis, and the suite works much more smoothly on my Mac than it did on my PC. I also enjoy having FaceTime on my computer.

I love the large screen and the weight. I travel a lot so it's easy to carry. The larger storage is definitely needed because after updates, it eats up a lot of your storage. Flash is a must because of a big difference in speed.

I was originally looking at a non-Apple laptop at the same price point. I'm so happy I went with the MacBook Pro. I was worried since I've always been a Windows user, but this laptop is so easy to use. If you type a document, you have the option to save it as a Word document, jpeg, etc. It automatically converts it for you. Plus, it's fast and the display is beautiful. You can't go wrong!
