Homerun device - improved over Magic Mouse 1

There are a few things I love about this mouse. 1) It now is rechargeable via lightning cable and requires no batteries. In the alkaline battery version the batteries lasted forever, but it is still nice to know that essentially it is impossible to run out of power if you plug in the mouse occasionally. 2) The touch surface is incredibly responsive. In what could easily turn into a disaster, the design of the touch interface really delivers good tracking clarity and gesture control. After just a few hours of use all of the commands seem second nature. 3) Design. Some functionality is lost in the fact that there are not two physical buttons (i.e. this is not a great gaming mouse), but it is all made up for in style. Of course Apple products value form over function and this is no different. the sleek design was so clean that it essentially looks identical to the Magic Mouse 1. A few considerations for this mouse are notable. Firstly, if you want to be able to right click with the mouse, you need to enable the function in the settings of your Mac. Does anyone really use this mouse without the right click enabled? Since it is turned off by default I could see someone thinking that since there is only one huge physical button that it might not have the ability to right-click... which would be frustrating. Some gestures are annoying. Again, the ones that are intuitive are quite helpful, but some of them are just overboard and need to be disabled. Again, I could see this being frustrating to a new user or a user with limited knowledge. Lastly, it is pricey - my Magic Mouse one lasted for years and years and still works perfectly. I would like to think that this mouse will be the same. With an item that takes day to day use and abuse I could see that some might be hesitant to spend $70 on a mouse.

I loved the first version of the Magic Mouse (the non rechargeable version) and love this rechargeable one even more. Unlike a traditional mouse with a scroll wheel or ball, the top three-fourths of the Magic Mouse 2 is almost like a trackpad for you to scroll horizontally, diagonally and vertically. It responds to taps as well as clicks. You can program the Magic Mouse 2 to do right and left clicking (secondary click) and also two finger swipe to switch between full-screen apps. Double tap with one finger (not click) to zoom in on a specific area of a webpage or double tap with two finger to open Mission Control. Go forward or back to webpages with a swipe of a finger. All these setting are configurable through the Mouse settings in System Preferences. A convenient power switch is located underneath. To pair the Magic Mouse 2 to your Mac, simply plug in the lightning cable to the mouse and the other end to the USB port on your Mac. Once paired, unplug the lightning cable. Due to its low slim design it may not be comfortable for some as it doesn't have that arch/palm support like some bigger shaped mouse. The only gripe about the Magic Mouse 2 is the placement of the lighting port for charging. You cannot simultaneously charge and use the Magic Mouse 2 as you have to plug in the lightning cable 90º under the mouse. This means you need to have it on its side while it's charging. One should utilize the battery % indicator in the bluetooth menu on the top bar so you know when to recharge it beforehand. This will ensure you're not stuck with a dead mouse.

Let me start off by saying my previous Mac was a MacBook Air. Before that, I had only ever owned laptop PC's. So as you can imagine, I'm pretty accustomed to trackpads. That being said, I gave the Magic Mouse 2 four (4) stars as my personal rating. Not because I'm biased of trackpads, but because I did find the mouse to be a bit clumsy at times, specifically in terms of sensitivity. For example, when resting my palm on the mouse, if my hand were to shift a little, the mouse would sometimes register that as a touch and move the cursor right before trying to click on something. Yes, I know you can adjust the sensitivity, but I figured I would just return the mouse and get the Magic Trackpad 2. I absolutely love the look and feel of the trackpad, but I don't want to get too much into that here, I'll leave a separate review on that product page. As for the Magic Mouse itself, I would say it's still a great product! There are so many functions and tricks you can do with touch portion of the mouse, like scrolling up and down, or between pages, using Mission Control, zooming, etc. And there's just something so satisfying about that crisp little "click" sound when clicking. I can't really comment on the battery life, seeing as how I only had the mouse for a week, before exchanging it. From other reviews I've seen, it's a super easy transition from the first generation Magic Mouse and battery life is a lot better. Overall, it's a very nice mouse, it just wasn't my preferred peripheral.

I recently owned the first Magic Mouse and returned it to BestBuy literally 1 day before Apple released this Magic Mouse 2. When I had the first Magic Mouse, having batteries for it wasn't really a con since the battery lasted a pretty long time. But now that I have the Magic Mouse 2, I am SO glad it has a built in rechargeable battery. And an added on bonus about this Magic Mouse 2 is that I can use my iPhone's lightning connector to charge up the mouse, or use the lighting connector provided in the box. Apple says the charge on this mouse is suppose to last for about a month or more, and so far I can say that it's living up to Apple's words. As far as design goes, I love it! This mouse's sleek design makes it look really good! I am a male and I have medium sized hands, and I will say that it did take me a while to get used to holding this mouse since it doesn't fit in the curve of your hand like most other mouses do. The gestures that you can do with this mouse are super cool and it feels very natural, especially if you are fond of the Macbook's Trackpad or the Wireless Trackpad. The only downside I had with this mouse (1st and 2nd version) was the price...and the bluetooth connection issues. Every now and then my mouse tends to not want to connect to my Macbook Pro's bluetooth. But it could be an issue with the Mac's bluetooth or the Magic Mouse...or maybe the Magic Mouse has a sleep mode that activates after so long that I don't know about. Who knows? Other than that, this is a very nice accessory to have with your Mac. I already had it planned in my mind to return it back to BestBuy before my 14-day return trial is up, but now I've decided to keep it. I am very glad I bought this Magic Mouse.

I wanted a iMac but wasn't ready to pay the iMac price O_o, so instead I decided to be creative and create my own iMac experience. I purchased the Apple Magic mouse and I am in love with it! It is so compact and has a clean modern look to it! I wish I was able to use this mouse at work, but we have standard company equipment (rolls eyes). It keeps a charge too! I've had it for about a little over three weeks and I have not had to recharge it. Great purchase! Perhaps when Apple gets more innovative and have more competitive prices, I'll switch out my iMac set up with MacBook Pro for an actual iMac :) FYI I have a Macbook Pro and also purchased the following items for my iMac set up (which also allows for dual monitors): Apple - Magic Keyboard - Silver Apple - Magic Mouse 2 - Silver Insignia™ - 6' HDDB15 Male-to-Male PC Monitor Cable - Black j5create - SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to VGA External Video Adapter - White AOC - i2779vh 27" IPS LED FHD Monitor - Black/silver

I recently had a need for a new mouse -- b/c my existing bluetooth mouse was starting to "skip" and not hold selected copy in Word or cells in Excel. It was a Logitech specifically for a Mac. I wanted another, but Logitech just didn't have the same one... close, but not the same. I wanted to stay with a bluetooth mouse for my Mac -- so started to read reviews. The Magic Mouse reviews were spotty. So I purchased a low-end Bluetooth mouse for Win and Mac i.e. under $20 -- and it wasn't very good. It worked out of the box -- but it just wouldn't consistently connect. So I returned it and bit the bullet and got the Mac Mouse to try. Yes -- it's slim as many complaints state... and the charging port is on the bottom. But so far -- after a full charge -- and after 12 hour days of use -- it's only down to 89% (at least a week after charging it). No question it takes some getting used to -- but it works as advertised with Macs. And as with Apple products, it's well made. It can be a little sensitive with left and right swipes -- but you adjust to it. So I'm glad I got it ... and if you like using a mouse with a Mac -- I'd say it's worth the extra $'s to get it.

I was forced to buy a replacement for the Mouse that came with my Mac when my old one stopped working one day. When I went into Best Buy my jaw dropped on the floor when they told me it was $80! So I bought it, but also picked up a Logitech for $12 on sale to see if it would work (or if it would be compatible) Not only was Logitech way cheaper, but it worked immediately within seconds and was so comfortable in my hand while using. While the $80 Apple mouse is sleek and nice looking, but the Apple mouse was not comfortable in comparison. AND the Worst part was after spending $80 for an Apple mouse for an Apple computer, one would think that it would work immediately... NOT the case! I had to read the directions to figure it out and took @ 5 minutes to setup with a few steps to complete pairing. The $12 Logitech mouse literally I opened the package, plugged the USB thing in the back, and it worked immediately! So I would NEVER recommend the $80 Apple Magic Mouse unless you are looking for Carpel Tunnel, there are much Better and Cheaper options out there.....

I bought this mouse to go with my brand new high spec MacBook Pro. I'm not a touchpad guy, even though the MBP has the best touchpad in the laptop world. I thought this would be a great complimentary Apple product for my new mac. However, I was wrong! The mouse does not fit very well in my hands, and as a result is a pain to use on a daily basis. I thought I'd get used to it but that was not the case. To make matters worse, the battery needs to be charge often, and the charging port is awkwardly placed on the bottom. You cannot use the mouse while it's charging! The touch scrolling feature doesn't work too great either. The only pros about this mouse are the looks (looks amazing, but is not very functional), uses a lighting cable that most people who use Apple products already have for charging (except the poor placement of the charging port negates this pro), and it pairs seemlessly and easily with my MacBook Pro via Bluetooth, keeping my USB ports free. I do not recommend this mouse. It is way too expensive for it to not have any practicality nor any reasonable usability. Honestly I don't know why Apple even made this mouse or how they're still managing to keep it in stores. I've used Logitech and Microsoft mice in the past and they can do a MUCH better job than this mouse can. I've been using a wireless USB Logitech mouse with my previous MacBook Pro and it worked wonderfully. I now use a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse (gasp!) that does an even better job.

I like that this mouse allows side scrolling/scrubbing in addition to regular top to bottom scrolling. The flat/slim profile doesn't bother me, but I can see how someone with larger hands may find it uncomfortable. It is a beautiful piece of hardware, and the flat profile allows it to fit well inside a laptop sleeve for travel. My one (major) gripe: the tracking is horrifically slow! To move the cursor from one side of the screen to the other requires me to move the mouse completely to the edge of the mousepad, lift it up to replace back at the other end, then move completely off the pad again (sometimes lifting and replacing it multiple times). This is insane, Apple! Increasing tracking speed to max doesn't help. I had to find no-longer-supported third party software to fix it and make it useable. I have a 2017 MacBook running the latest Mac High Sierra update. Apple needs to fix this (Apple Magic Mouse driver/software issue--I have no problem with any other mouse brand or style), because otherwise it's great.

As I'm sure many of you have read, Apple's biggest design flaw with the Magic Mouse seems to be that the charging port is on the bottom of the mouse, meaning that when you are charging the mouse, you cannot simultaneously use it. I thought that would be a big enough drawback for me to return the mouse, but after using it comfortably for several months, I greatly believe that the battery life and the responsiveness to movements and clicks with the Magic Mouse, albeit being a wireless mouse, greatly outweigh the charging issue! I make sure to have the mouse turned "off" when not in use, and I honestly cannot remember the last time I have had to charge it (other than the 1st day buying and using it)! I was skeptical about Apple's description that "A full charge takes about two hours and lasts two months. Two minutes of juice is enough for a full day as well", but I can happily say that I am now a believer. I have not had any issues regarding the mouse thus far and believe that they have corrected other issues that have been brought up by Magic Mouse gen.1 users. I am very satisfied with my purchase, and I would highly recommend for other wireless mouse users who love pairing Apple products together too!

I thought the trackpad on my MacBook was all I needed for productivity. However after finally pushing myself to invest in the Magic Mouse 2 I couldn't be happier. The mouse saves me from relying on keyboard shortcuts and using 2 hands to crop and paste text, and photos for the layout of documents I produce weekly. I love that the Magic Mouse 2 works on virtually any surface that it can glide on, and the addition of the long lasting rechargeable battery makes upgrading from the 1st gen Magic Mouse much more worthwhile. The Mouse feels much more sturdy without the removable back and batteries, leading to an overall more premium feel and I have no issue with the Lightning charging port being located on the bottom of the mouse. You honestly won't spend much time recharging the mouse for the charging port to be an issue. Considering the price, I would have liked for Apple to have made the profile of the mouse slimmer, similar to Logitech's ultra slim touch mouse. However nothing compares to white sleek, shiny glass exterior and Apple logo on the Magic Mouse 2. It looks beautiful resting next to my 12" gold MacBook. I would recommend the mouse to anyone using any iteration of MacBook lineup, as it does help to increase productivity. This is an Apple accessory with amazing functionality while remaining simple to use.

I read reviews from this board, apple's, all over. Everyone complaining about where you plug in the wire to charge this mouse. YES, it is a bit awkward at first. You literally plug in, perpendicular to the bottom of the unit. This causes the unit to not lay flat while charging. "I can't use my mouse while charging!" Ummm, you're not supposed to use anything while it's charging, period... get over it. "There are other mice that allow you to use it while charging... and they're $40 cheaper!" OMG go buy one, quick. I'll stick with my magic mouse. My mouse kinda props up like a picture frame on a desk displaying it's beautiful elegance while it charges it's super long lasting battery. Do I care I can't use the mouse for the couple hours while it charges? No. The mouse is not supposed to be the best mouse on the market... while it's charging. How does it perform while it's on, being used? It's perfect. Smooth, perfect tracking,. Clicks are "ergonomically correct". Have been using it for a couple of months and have never lost connection once. I use it for 10-12 hours daily. What do I do while it's charging? Sleep, eat, play with my son, read a good book, take a walk, exercise.... not in that order. I can survive with Apple's odd decision to put the port on the bottom of the unit.

I have the original magic mouse for my Mac desk top computer, but I wanted one for my laptop since it's so much easier than using the track pad. Since the Magic mouse 2 is available, I chose that option and thought how much nicer it would be not to have to change the batteries out every 2 months. However, this magic mouse 2 is dead every time I go to use my laptop, which I only used for 15 minutes on the last charge. You HAVE to remember to turn off the mouse otherwise even though it is not in use, it will die. I use the battery version (original magic mouse) on my desktop work computer everyday for at least 8 hours and NEVER turn off my mouse. Batteries only need replacing after 2 months. So you decide what is more convenient. For me, the batteries are more reliable!

One of my most disappointing moments in owning Apple Macintosh products. I have large hands, this mouse is made for people with small hands. Tracking is very slow and Apple corporation is NOT going to do anything to fix that problem, trust me, I and several dozen other apple community members have tried. There was a fix that worked (MagicPrefs) but they discontinued support to the app and if your a beta seed tester like some of us, after the update, it don't work NO MORE. So, like the many hundreds of us that foolishly bought this mouse, it just got turned off and thrown in a drawer collecting dust. I am still using my $5.00 BigLot's generic mouse on my iMac and is better than anything Apple products has put out on the market. Shame on you Apple Macintosh.

I don't usually come back to a site to write a review but I felt compelled in this case. Glad I made the purchase. Some reviews left me unsure of buying one but glad I tried it out and I love it. I have a MacBook Pro and it connected within seconds of turning it on. The charging port is on the bottom of the mouse, but who cares. I been using it daily for at least 3 weeks and the charge is now at 88%. It charges quickly so no big deal. Love the features that are exclusive to Apple (double tap to Mission Control, swipe capabilities, etc.) I use Finale for music notation and it works great. Occasionally feel some fatigue in my wrist and right finger, but isn't that true of any mouse after a long period of use. Just take a break. The only reason I withhold the 5 star rating is due to the lack of independent settings for the mouse and trackpad. When you change the trackpad settings, the mouse settings are changed and vice versa. But again, no big deal Highly recommend this mouse.

When I bought my first Mac a few weeks ago, I had originally decided to give the trackpad a fair try so I only bought an eternal CD Drive. But after 3 days I couldn't take it anymore. As nice as the new Trackpad is, I guess I am a mouse person because I just couldn't get it to do what I wanted. Since MacBooks only come with 2 USB ports and I have a history or wearing out USB ports because I remove and insert mice and other peripherals so often I decided that a bluetooth mouse was needed. Ive had a bad experience with the battery life on Microsoft Bluetooth mice in the past so I decided to get the Apple one. The mouse itself works well once you get used to the fact that the whole top is one large button and there is no wheel (the top has trackpad sensitivity). The only negatives are the size, which make it portable but awkward to hold onto (it's too thin), and the fact that they put the Lightening port for charging on the bottom so you can't charge it and use it at the same time. Fortunately it seems to have great battery life.

I purchased the Magic Mouse 2 a little after getting my MacBook Pro and I'm really glad I made the purchase. I had a Logitech mouse I used with my PC but it was wearing out and was too bulky. The Magic Mouse 2 fits the shape of my hand so naturally. The Magic Mouse 2 is also fairly small compared to a regular computer mouse--not nearly as bulky and doesn't take up nearly as much space. A final plus for the mouse? It's a small thing but the Magic Mouse does NOT require an USB adapter like a regular computer mouse. You use a cord to plug the Magic Mouse 2 in when you first use it and, after a minute or two, you unplug it and, from then on, you never have to plug it in again--wireless pairing! It's a small thing, as I said, but having that free USB port can really be the difference between extreme annoyance and smooth sailing. The ONLY thing this mouse does not offer is right-click ability but, from what I understand, you can configure it in settings to do so. I would absolutely recommend this mouse. Other companies should create computer mice more like the Magic Mouse 2!

This mouse has gotten a lot of bad reviews on it but I wanted an Apple mouse to go with my Apple laptop so I purchased it anyway to try it and I'm glad that I did! At first it takes a little getting use to because it does operate differently from a normal mouse. But once you get the hang of it it's pretty neat. There is no scroll wheel so you just swipe with your finger instead (so easy!). There is still left click and right click. You tap it to make what you're reading larger or smaller, side swipe it to change pages. The battery life is wonderful! I've had mine since mid November (almost a month now) and have not had to recharge it yet. Yes one downfall is the charging port is underneath the mouse but you still have your computer's trackpad to use until your Apple Magic Mouse 2 is ready to go again for use. If you're into change then give this mouse a try and give it a real chance, if you love Apple products I think you'll learn to love this mouse to!

I bought this mouse to work with my Apple MacBook Air but was dismayed with the inability of using this mouse with some of the games I play due to the whole mouse surface (and sides of the top surface I might add) acting like the trackpad. I was about to return this mouse to Best Buy when I decided to do a google search cause I couldn't be the only person experiencing these issues, and sure enough I am not the only one. In order to make this mouse usable (even for basic web browsing or video editing) I needed to download a program called MagicPrefs (completely free) which installs an application and a top bar icon where you can alter the preferences of the mouse. At this time, Apple does not have a similar thing but I urge you to get this software when or if you are thinking of getting this mouse. After use of this mouse for about a month with the use of the application, I absolutely love the mouse. Until Apple remedies this issue I will keep my rating at a 4.

I purchased the Magic Mouse 2 as an upgrade over the Magic Mouse 1. I've been using the Magic Mouse since Apple came out with it and have previously used the first version and second version of the Magic Mouse 1 (the original version had an issue with battery connection that was later fixed). The Magic Mouse 2 is a great improvement over Magic Mouse 1. The charges do last more than I'd expect. My only gripe (and drop of a star) is that the charging port on the mouse is on the underside of the mouse. It makes the mouse practically unusable when charging. I usually have to charge my mouse when I'm using my computer. I've love to see Magic Mouse 3 to somehow incorporate a charging port that doesn't interrupt functionality, similar to the chargeable keyboard.
