Customers are saying

Customers highly value the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter's compatibility with Apple monitors and its ability to connect older Thunderbolt 2 devices to newer Macs. They also appreciate its ease of use and reliable data transfer capabilities, noting its seamless performance. However, some customers find the adapter's price to be a significant drawback. The size of the adapter is also a point of contention for a few users.

Perfect for connecting my 2014 Retina 27" iMac to the 27" Ultrafine LG monitor that is made for Apple products. Converts my Thunderbolt 2 cable to USB-C and allows accessories to work with the older iMac.

Perfect, exactly what I was looking for. Turns Thunderbolt 2 into USB-C - Though if using on PC you must make sure that your motherboard supports Thunderbolt or this is useless.

I have an older Mac display with Thunderbolt 2 ports and a newer Mac mini with Thunderbolt 3 ports. This did the trick to connect my newer Mac to the display and allowing the continued use of the built-in webcam and speakers.

Thunderbolt 2 to 3 Adapter Works... For Money.

It's sad that there is no backwards compatibility between Thunderbolt 3 and 2/1 because they companies and "standards" people involved complete changed how thunderbolt connects and works... so you need this $50 adapter to bridge the gap created by the companies and "standards" people involved. In my opinion they should be giving these to consumers for free since they created the problem and now are quite happy to sell you the solution for money. Kinda BS economics in the end. But what can you do as a consumer and end user of such technologies? I bought this overpriced adapter so I could continue using my Focusrite Clarett 8PreX audio interface (which has been discontinued by Focusrite...) that only has a Thunderbolt 1/2 output on the back to connect with computers. It worked with a brand new 17" HP Omen Gaming laptop via USB-C Thunderbolt 3 connection with the dreaded 15E8 Thunderbolt driver. I let Focusrite know and now you can too. So far initial testing showed that Reaper 6.19 was getting signal from the correct channels on the interface. It took a bit of effort to setup going from using a 2011 WacBook Pro to the Windows 10 version of Reaper since some of the audio interface options take a bit of setup to get working correctly. In short, it worked for me, might not work for you and your computer and interface, etc, give it a try and return it if it doesn't work. It is a bit overpriced at $50, but it will pay for itself in no time getting used.

You won't find anything like this from anyone else. This is the only device that will let you send data both directions. All the rest only let you connect a Thunderbolt 2 drive to a Thunderbolt 3 device. This will let you run a Thunderbolt 3 device attached to a Thunderbolt 2 computer. Nothing else can do that. If you need that, this is your dongle!

So glad they have this adaptor as I use the Thunderbolt screen for work and when I bought my new computer it would have been very costly to have to get a new version without this adaptor. It is the small things that can make a big difference!

Works with my Apple Display and even a dock!

I am using this with a 2018 MacBook Pro, an Apple Thunderbolt Display and a Belkin Thunderbolt Dock (both are Thunderbolt 1.0). This little adapter drives both the monitor and the dock. I haven't done an extensive round of testing, but I have done a few things. I can confirm the speakers through the display worked via the adapter. Plugging a thumb drive into the dock, I was able to retrieve content. I also ran external speakers via the dock and sound worked just fine. Display Mirroring worked, but the font on the laptop display was way to small by default. That said, I didn't spend any time making adjustments to work past that. I rarely use mirroring of displays. I have been running in Extended Display mode and it work beautifully. I never expected this adapter to charge my laptop as my Type-C dock does as my monitor nor Belkin Dock ever charged my old MacBook Pro. I don't think that capability is in the 1.0 Thunderbolt spec. But in case anyone was wondering, I thought I'd mention that. This little adapter is merely for getting some extra use out of some of that old equipment you have laying around, which is precisely what this adapter is doing for me.

Because of Covid 19 & Shelter in... My job shifted to conducting online events. The UltraStudio mini recorder that I picked up Uses a thunderbolt 2 connection and my 2019 MBP has USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 connections. So this adapter became a necessity to accomplish my goals. So far there has been no issues with performance.

Best choice for getting to Thunderbolt 3

This is the only real choice you have in a thunderbolt 3 adapter, but it works very well and is as about as well built as it can get. Its a sturdy cable that stays inline and doesn't have much flex to it. Its too bad that it has a little bit of bulk, but overall its ok that it isn't all that incognito. I'm mostly pleased at how solid the connections are at both ends of the cable. As with most apple products, its pretty expensive, but hopefully you realize its evil necessity when you upgrade your mac

First off, it's on the pricy side. But in return you get a fully functional Thunderbolt 2 port (not just mini display port over thunderbolt 2) over Thunderbolt 3/USB C. I am able to connect my older iMac 27" 2011 as an external monitor for extra space during editing video as well as my external hard drives using thunderbolt 2. Don't go cheap, go for this original.

Purchased this adaptor to use with my newer model MacBook Pro with the Thunderbolt 3 port. My external hard drive only supported Thunderbolt 2, thus causing me to use the non-Thunderbolt connector. Now with my new adaptor, I am able to quickly and efficiently backup and/or transfer large A/V files along with compressed document and photo files. Quite partial to the price however, given my past experiences with applicable purchases, I am pleased with the outcome.

You might think that hardware or software sales are what make Apple so profitable. Wrong. It's due to sales of adapters that allow you to plug in your old peripherals to your new Apple computer. Maybe I just need to win the lottery so when I buy a new computer, I simply replace each of my peripherals at the same time. Need to work on that one.

I got this so I could connect to an older Firewire 800 hard drive, so I use this adapter in combination with another Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter. The combination works to connect me to the old drive.
