I bought this USBC-3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter primarily to use a blackmagic video encoder box to use an external high quality video camera for my Facebook Lives and Youtube Lives. It works like a charm for the original reason I purchased it.
I however then tried to use it to hook up my external monitor which has a parrallels port that goes into a parallel to thunderbolt 2 adapter and then I take that adapater and go into the thunderboth 3(USBC3) adapter. I basically think it's because it's already on an adapter it won't read.
It's ok though because that was'nt the original purpose but thought I'd try it anyway and that would have been a cool bonus.

Old Drive Dock Still Useful With This Adapter

I have a Thunderbolt 2 2-bay drive dock I've used for years with a Macbook Pro. I now have a Mac Mini M1 that has Thunderbolt 3. The old drive dock is nowhere near as fast as Thunderbolt 3 accessories, but it is still faster than USB 3. This adapter keeps the old drive dock useful even for some (not all) video editing. But the price for a hunk of wire, YIKES!

After changing computers I didn't want to replace my completely functional peripherals just because they were Thunderbolt 1, and this was a welcome buy. It's pretty straightforward, in that it allows you to connect a Thunderbolt 1/2 device/plug into a Thunderbolt 3 device/plug. It's a little pricey, but it's better than buying replacements for $1,000 worth of peripherals.

Adapter for audio I/O use

Purchased a direct thunderbolt iii/USB-c to thunderbolt ii/i adapter for use with iMac 2020 and UAudio Apollo Twin Audio Interface. I wanted a direct connection (no hub) for my audio interface. So working extremely well with Catalina. The adapter works equally well with Big Sur beta OS but uaudio software needs some updating still but doesn't affect audio performance.

Very expensive but if you’re going for me thunderbolt to to the new thunderbolt three I am a connections it’s a must specially for the three monitors gonna spend an extra hundred dollars to set your computer up right. The distance from one monitor to the next with an iMac in the middle almost guarantee you need two of these thunderbolt converter plugs

I had a bunch of Thunderbolt 2 adapters from my 2015 MacBook Pro that I wanted to use with my 2018 MacBook Pro and this adapter did the trick. Now I can use all of my old adapters and don't have to buy new ones.
This allows you to plug your old Thunderbolt 2 gear or adapters into this Thunderbolt 3 adapter and then it plugs right into the USB-C port on your Mac.
It's expensive for what it does so I knocked off 1 star but it does work as advertised.

Excellent dongle, allows me to use a 27-inch Apple Studio Display on my newer 2017 MacbookPro with Thunderbolt 3 ports. Doesn't charge through the connector, but all other functionality is retained (3x USB-A, Ethernet, SCSI connector). Works like it did on my previous MacBook Pro (except charge).

Every time I get a new computer, there is always a peripheral I need to connect to it but the type of connections/ports have changed! LOL! This adapter serves its purpose. It is good quality. Pricey, but well-made. At least with Apple, I know what I am getting as opposed to some lesser known or off-brands.

These adapters fit well. Not too tight but, a good fit. I've 4 ports on my laptop. Newer items are equipped with the new type of connectors. By having this I have extended the life of many of my older accessories. APPLE stuff is always quality.

An Apple Dongle Worth the Hassle

A "must-have" for anyone with Thunderbolt 2 peripherals, Mac or PC. Yes, it is a hassle having to buy another $50 dongle for my computers; however, this one is worth it as it keeps my mission critical Thunderbolt 2 devices relevant in a Thunderbolt 3 world. They 'just work'.

Apple has done it again! Made it impossible and expensive to connect live recording equipment to their new computers. I had to spend $100.00 on 2 adapters to get my Mackie Onyx 1640i to connect with my computer so that I could record a live event. The mixer uses a firewire. The adapter is a little bulky for me but it works perfectly.
