Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter's compatibility, overall performance, and ability to convert Thunderbolt 2 to USB-C as major advantages. Many appreciate its ease of use, connectivity, and speed. However, some customers find the price to be a drawback, and a few have concerns about its size and cable length.

Works great. I used it to connect an older macbook air (thunderbolt port) to a new macbook air M1 (usb-c port). I used a thunderbolt to thunderbolt cable to overcome the connection gender difference. it worked great. Fast and reliable. This would also be good for someone who has legacy thunderbolt storage systems to connect to a computer with usb-c only (such as the new apple M1 laptops and mac mini's).

Seriously if you have an older thunderbolt 2 Mac and want to connect to a newer Thunderbolt 3/4 display or a new Mac and you have a Thunderbolt Display, this is the able you need. I have used on both a 2013 "trash can" Mac Pro and a 2021 14" Mac Book Pro. Im using dual monitor right now including a old Thunderbolt Display and a new 4k LG thunderbolt.

As expected. Works very well. I connected it to a Thunderbolt 3 audio interface, then to a Thunderbolt 2 cable which I plugged into a Caldigit Thunderbolt 2 breakout box, that I connected via a Corning fiber optic Thunderbolt cable that was 15 meters long - appears to work just fine.

Works as it should. I bought it as an open box return, so it cost less than buying new from Apple or Best Buy. I have this chained with a FW800 to Tunderbold 3 adapter in order to use a Canon DV camcorder with iMovie.

I tested the Apple adapter against several 3rd party adapters last year and the Apple one was, in fact, 15% faster. Unless you are backing up with TimeMachine to a fast external SSD it probably isn’t a deal breaker. I copy files to SSD drives frequently enough that it was worth it to me.

I needed to get some video off of an old hard drive that used FireWire 800. I used this, along with a FireWire to Thunderbolt 2 to create a daisy chain so that I could download to my new MacBook Pro. Worked like a charm. I don’t really have much more use for it, but glad I bought it as it was video from when my son was a baby. I got my open box, I suspect someone returned it after one use which I think it shady, but at least I saved a bit of money on the deal.

I'm not surprised that there are so many complaints about this adapter (and most of the other Apple adapters, as well). If people would just read the product name, the description and do a little research, they wouldn't encounter so many issues with this adapter connecting to legacy (or incompatible) products. For what I need it (connecting a USB-C port to a Thunderbolt hard drive), it just works. The connection on both ends are secure and easily made.

The TB3<->TB2 adapter was purchased to connect a Sonnet Breakaway Box that has a native TB3 to older MacBook Air/Pro's that use TB2/TB1. The external enclosure was for an eGPU that was to be used under Windows 10 (Bootcamp on Macbook). With some minor tweaks the respective laptops were able to have Windows 10 recognize the GPU located inside the Sonnet enclosure and have the respective driver installed and operate the external card.

Allowed me to use my Caldigit Thunderbolt 2 docking station with the newer MacBooks that have T3 ports. Don't confuse the USB-C size (same as T3) with the speed! You can get USB-C adaptors that will fit the MacBooks but they do not have the same speed as Thunderbolt 3 (obviously, if you don't need TB speeds you can get regular USB-C adaptors). I gave off a star because when I move the laptop around my desk, the connector comes off easily (disconnecting hard drives, etc. from the computer) - wish it connected tighter.

Works great. saved me a few times with speed. One thing to keep in mind that this only works with a thunderbolt 3 port and not USB-C 3.0. A lot of people make that mistake and doesn't work. Used this to connect the Thunderbolt 3 port on a G-Drive to a MacBook Pro and/or Mac Pro w/ TB 2 and worked like a charm allowing me to get TB2 speeds which is still way better than 3.0

Purchased this so that I can connect my new MacBook Pro to the 2011 iMac that I have to use as monitor. Don't buy third-parties adapter that has the same input and output because thunderbolt 2 and displayport for Macs aren't the same (even though they have identical slot) and they won't work. This one is pricey but it's the only one works if you want to keep using your old Apple Monitors or iMacs as monitors.
