Why listen to me- I work as a network engineer for a fiber to the home/business open access network. I have a macbook air 13 inch mid 2013 model. Test- I performed the test on one of our service providers bandwidth to a Comcast speedtest.net server. 808.30 Mbps download 927.62 Mbps upload. That is pretty good for a dongle (thunderbolt version). Notes- I have tried the less expensive Plugable brand USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet and it performed about the same but I had to install their specific drivers. After that it worked great until I lost it. Yes I was using this one on my same mac air. Best of luck.

Upgraded to gigabit internet speeds and needed this for my MacBook Pro. When hard wired connected from my router I get true gigabit speeds! It's awesome and works exactly as intended.

Great piece of equipment for those who still have the old MacBook Pros. Having a hardline internet fiber connection has made me more valuable in my work. Very handy dongle!

    Great Product

It's an Apple product so it's great and does it's job every time you use it. Of course, it's a bit overpriced and when compared to a hub you'd likely be better off as far as an all in one device but if you use your laptop on the couch, bed, and basically anywhere other than a desk, this is much easier to use than a hub. It's also beautiful when connected to your Mac. Word of caution though, this is NOT a Thunderbolt 3 to Ethernet adapter. This will NOT work with the newer MacBook Pro's. You will need to make sure that you have the correct Thunderbolt port on your Mac before buying this. Overall it's a fantastic product from Best Buy once again!

As a fairly mobile laptop user and IT tech, I always make sure to have one of these in my bag. WiFi is almost everywhere, but it's not quite everywhere and this little gigabit adapter can save the day! I only hold one star back, because I really feel that this should be an included accessory from Apple, but what can you do?

The ethernet adapter works great and really speeds up the internet at home with no disruptions to the connectivity. I bought an open box item, saved some money, works perfectly and still has the warranty...it was a no brainer for me.

Nice little converter. Takes you from Thunderbolt jack on one end to Ethernet socket on the other. You are not likely to have thunderbolt cables laying around at this point in its evolution but nearly everybody has ethernet cables on hand.

I needed to verify the speed of my cable internet, but Macbooks don't have an Ethernet port. This cable makes that connection possible. A very simple device that does exactly what it's supposed to do.

No drivers to load, just set it up in network preferences and you have 1000 base T wired ethernet for your (older) MacBook Pro (the newest macbook pros need a different cable: usb C). It really is a lot faster than Wi-Fi!

It is nice when a product just works and this product works well. I use it with my MacBook Pro and all I had to do was plug it in. No configuration steps or any installation wizard required.

This worked much better for transferring data using migration assistant. WiFi (even with a new Apple 802.11ac router) was horribly slow and was saying days. Bought this and it was finished in 3 hours!

I bought this as an open box item. This is for the older MacBook Pro or Mac Pro (black cylinder style). This is my second open box purchase of this item. THIS IS NOT FOR THE CURRENT MACBOOK PRO. This doesn’t work with the USB-C thunderbolt 3. I am only saying this because of the frequency I am seeing this item returned as open box. This works well for a direct connection. I work in networking and need a direct Ethernet connection. I wish Apple would add the traditional I/O ports. I stopped using my 16 inch MacBook Pro because I hate carrying multiple dongles. I switched back to my 2015.

I know there's been a trend toward going wireless, but sometimes a good old fashion wired connection works great and does it more securely. I wish Apple would include this with their MBP after they removed the port in the new models.

Like most things Apple, it is kinda spendy. That said, it solved a problem of weak video conferencing behavior due to limits of wifi.

This is a Fine Adapter, IF:

IF: you have the older generation Thunderbolt 1 or 2 connection on your computer or computer hub (both of which use the same connector as a Mini DisplayPort (MDP). What this adapter is not good for is any new computer or hub that does not have the Mini Display Port female connection. IF you need and adapter that connects to a USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 port, I recommend the Insignia USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (NS-PUCGE8) for MacOS 10.6 and up.
