    Perfect for MacBook Air

My MacBook Air goes with me everywhere: home, travel, and from job to job. I've always relied on the built-in Wi-Fi or the wired network connector on my external Thunderbolt display, but my newest job has me working with the MacBook Air sans display and they have terrible Wi-Fi throughout the building. The solution? This little Thunderbolt gadget, which you plug in and never think about again. Gives me a great 10/100/1000Base-T connectivity and is small enough to throw into my computer bag.

My Retina MBP doesn't have a ethernet jack, got a new ISP and wasn't getting the wi fi speed i was promised. In order to verify if I was getting the speed purchased I needed to go direct wired connection to the modem ( take out any potential bottle necks), so this was a required purchase to do that. Hooked it up and BOOM super fast speed was there !!! So need a new router to get wi fi up to speed. This worked first time every time with no issues at all.

I use this to connect my MacBook Pro when I need super fast Gigabit Networking to back up or transfer files. This works as designed.. just plug it into your macbook, plug into your switch or router, and you're on the network at full speed. No driver installation is required, and it leaves your USB ports free. If you're using your Thunderbolt ports for some other purpose such as video, you probably don't want this dongle.

I was always questioning why would you need something like this - isn't there wifi everywhere??? But then I got sent on business to an office that wasn't allowed to have wifi - I needed a hardware connection for my MacBook Air. I had to google, but found that this device still existed. It's fantastic. The wired connection is perfect through this dongle and I was able to get full speeds with no lag at all. Five stars when you need this thing.

This should have been included freely, but anyways it's thunderbolt so it is fast, reliable and easy to plug/unplug, though we can get usb3 to ethernet i would recommend this due to reliability.

Since the new MacBook Pro doesn't have a built in ethernet port I wanted a way to hook my new computer up hardwire which seems to work best in my home where kids gaming systems, phones, iPads, and other toys are all connected to the wifi. The speed I get to my MacBook is about 50% faster than the wireless connection. I'm glad Apple saw that some people would still want to be hardwired and gave us a good adapter for it!!

On short notice I needed a wired ethernet connection to my mac and I was worried about the process to make it recognize this Thunderbolt adapter. Well, the Mac saw it immediately and I was up and running with blazing fast ethernet in a couple of moments. Apple never lets me down.

This adapter is a must have for MacBook users that don’t have an Ethernet port. Since the newer models don’t have the Ethernet port installed, this adapter works great for getting a wired connection. Sometimes you need the reliability of a hardwired connection and this adapter is perfect for that. Kinda pricey in my opinion but would recommend.

Picked this up to primarily test the Thunderbolt 2 port on my Hackintosh motherboard. Works well for what it does. Provides better speed then a USB 2.0 Ethernet adapter since they can't support gigabit Ethernet. Also tested mine under Windows 7 on my system and it was detected correctly. I plan on upgrading to a Macbook Air later this year and will use this adapter with that machine regularly. Only drawback with this design is that there is no Thunderbolt pass-through, so it will suck up a port on it's own. If you have other Thunderbolt devices that you can't daisy chain, you may have to decide on one or swap between them.

What can I say, its an ethernet adapter, it works

So, for my macbook air, I have the mid '12 model that only had 802.11n speeds, where as the next years model came with the 802.11ac speeds. I did the aircard swap with no problems, and with it came the ability to unlock my macbook with my apple watch which was annoyingly useful. Never had a problem the OS picked up the new card and ran without a single thought or issue except for one....if you ever need to boot into recovery with internet support or do a full on hardware test...something is missing that allows the mac to use the new aircard and it may not and in some cases does not allow you to boot under those circumstances with wifi support. SOOOoo...the way to get around this is to buy this handy little ethernet adapter and the macbook will boot into recovery internet and run a full hardware test from the ethernet adapter vs wifi aircard. We'll worth the effort, easy fix. Bonus...even though I can clock 50mps on the 802.11ac speeds...it does vary somewhat and as you increase distance from the router. Ethernet, wired, obviously much faster, but surprisingly, when both ethernet and wifi are enabled, it seems to mimo utilize both connections to mass move hundreds of gigabytes vs solelywired or solely wifi...which is nice and very fast.

Due to the slim nature of MacBooks, they couldn't stuff an Ethernet jack in there. If you're finding yourself needing a hardwired network interface, this is definitely the way to go. With it being Apple, it's 100% supported out of the box and works flawlessly. It's nice to be able to get hardwired speeds and reliability for huge downloads or occasional gaming.

Works like a charm on a mid-2015 MBP 15" retina

Works like a charm on a mid-2015 MBP 15" retina in OS X; this adapter can be plugged in at any time and will be recognized by the OS. Windows is a mixed bag--which is not this adapter's fault. I have discovered through trial-and-error that Thunderbolt devices are NOT hot-pluggable with bootcamp and Windows 10 (not sure about 7, 8, 8.1). If you have this device plugged in when booting your Mac in a Windows 10 bootcamp it will be detected and work flawlessly. If you unplug it, you must reboot in order to plug it in and use it again--this is a limitation of your MBP/bootcamp (not sure which), NOT the adapter's fault! Apple states on it's website that Macs built after 2014 can hot-plug Thunderbolt devices in Windows but this is not my experience w/ either this adapter or the Apple Thunderbolt monitor I use.

I went looking for a way to hardwire my macbook pro to my router since it doesn't come with a dedicated ethernet port and found that the two thunderbolt ports on my macbook weren't being used for pretty much anything that was dedicated. This adapter is perfect for that purpose and it doesn't require any special anything. Just plug and play.
