We've since purchased another we liked it so much. I was fast running out of Blu Ray storage options so this is a great alternative considering how much digital content I have. It's fast becoming my favorite way to watch even TV shows with iTunes Season Passes - now I don't even have to fast forward through commercials on our DirecTV. It takes up minimal real estate for something that gives you access to so many applications. My husband also likes that he can use the AirPlay feature to watch YouTube videos from his iPad on the TV. Setup is extremely simple and user-friendly. I don't know the technical reason behind it, but I have noticed that though it is streaming large files, it doesn't interfere with the internet bandwidth on other devices or lag. We have 25Mbps Comcast Xfinity service. There are only two problems I've run into with it: 1. Occasionally the Apple Store will go down and you can't watch your show / movie until it comes back up unless you have it downloaded and interface through another piece of equipment on AirPlay. It's not down for long though and I can't say I've run into this more than a couple of times since purchasing the original unit in December. 2. For some reason the second unit's remote doesn't wake the AppleTV up from the screen saver when pressing the Play button like the first unit does. You can still wake it up pressing Menu, it's just something I'm not in the habit of doing.

My mom has a Roku and and friends have kindles and I, the more tech savvy, have used a number of devices, that I'd already paid for, to stream my favorite television shows. Therefore, I'd never thought that'd I would actually pay for a device that JUST streamed stuff to stream my stuff. But Apple TV is amaze-balls! Several streaming apps come pre loaded and you can rent and buy TV shows and movies through Apple TV. You can stream music or play music from your play list without having to connect your phone. You just have to login with your Apple ID. Plus, you don't need a smart TV to use it; just an HDMi cable. I'm watch Girls on HBONow, at this moment, as I type! I no longer have to "mirror" but I can if I choose, and no more searching for cords that only Google and blogs know about. FREEDOM.

This AppleTV 3rd Gen was our third so I'm pretty familiar with it. The product works very well, and we're even using it to stream Netflix on a slow 1.5Mpbs Internet connection. I have used AppleTVs with a WiFi connection, and other AppleTVs on a LAN connection and both work very well. The unit is very easy and quick to setup. You don't need to understand networking in order to set this up. The only improvements I would like is for it to support the Amazon video app, and in general, more frequent software updates with new apps. It seems like there's only about 1 software update per quarter., but that's just an estimate. The remote is tiny and can be easily lost but feels well made.

If you are not into the apple fold, you will like this a lot. It does everything all the others do, with a great remote that is easy to navigate. It is easy to setup and comes ready to use. If you do use an iPhone or iMac, you will love it. It allows you to move whatever you are doing on your screen to the tv. Watching a show on your phone while at the beach? Want to finish it at home? No problem, just send it to the TV. Can display your computer screen on the TV or use it as a second monitor if you want without cords. It works great in gaming too!!

As the title hints, our household is already well furnished with Apple products. And as it has been said in other reviews in this thread, it will be a much more positive user experience for people who have Mac computers, or iPad / iPhone / iTouch, for these last three can be used as remote controls with an excellent free app ("Remote") from Apple. If it were not for Apple's attention to detail, the installation of the Apple TV could be a bear for less technology-savvy consumers. But, even though I've installed a network or five before, in my mind this couldn't have been easier. Opened up the package, plugged stuff up, and things came right up on the screen. Used the included remote to log in. It should be noted that logging in (This means you have to have an Apple ID login and password) must be done on all devices you plan on involving in what is essentially a kind of network parallel to the wi-fi network you have in your house (although of course it runs on it). You must log in, and turn on Home Sharing, on the Apple TV, in iTunes on any computer you're planning on using, and also on any iPad / iPhone / iTouch you're using as a controller. It should also perhaps be noted that these logins are separate from logins and passwords you may be using for Netflix, Hulu, or any other media you are accessing through Apple TV. This all takes some time, but it's a one-shot deal. The nicest surprise (which I had not come across in my research) about the Apple TV is that it includes a high fidelity TOSLINK optical audio out connection in addition to the HDMI connector. The Sony receiver on our home stereo is rather old-school in that it predates HDMI, so we weren't going to be able to run the Apple TV signal through that. Instead, I'd have to run the HDMI cable directly to our Samsung HDTV. However, the receiver does have TOSLINK inputs, so I just use a cable I had lying around, and I have excellent sound through our stereo speakers. Once everything was up and running, I was very gratified by the far better picture and sound that I was getting compared to streaming Netflix through the Wii (which we have done for several years heretofore). I already knew that the Wii's specs for picture and sound were pretty low, but for me, the increase in performance alone was worth the price of the Apple TV and cable. Apple's attention to the end user experience has always been one of the best features of owning their products, but the icing on the cake for Apple TV is the "Remote" app. Free, simple, and elegant. Once I used it, I knew I'd have to put the included remote in a safe place, because I wouldn't be using it again except in some extraordinary circumstances. There are some complaints in the reviews that the Apple TV lacks certain online media services. This may be the case, but for what it does provide, and for how it performs, we are very pleased. Addendum: This Apple TV is just the gift that keeps on giving. I was under some misapprehensions about the capabilities of AirPlay, specifically AirPlay Mirroring. Google it, go to the Apple support page, and then do enough links. Photos and music may be displayed from your iDevice simultaneously through the Apple TV to your HDTV. Great!

I meant the absolute best when you have apple products like iphone ipad iPod touch or an apple computer. When I record vids of a special occasion on my 6+ and wanted to present them in the living room where the Apple TV connected to my Samsung hdtv is, I beam it there. You can also stream other vids from streaming websites. I have two of these actually. The original same black compact version when it was 99 and this newer one just for my bedroom. They are the same, just TV added beside the apple logo. Nonetheless I prefer this streaming device over anything else. Works superb if you have apple AirPort Extreme routers BUB!

First off let me start by saying I absolutely love this device (as a newer cord cutter). I love that it just works right out of the box. I love the integration with my other iOS devices. We can all sit in a room and take turns Airplaying content from our iPads or iPhones to the TV and it's completely effortless. SO easy to set up. We can also stream any media from our computers in iTunes (meaning any downloaded TV shows or Movies even pictures and music). I also like that the native WatchESPN app. The quality is stunning. It's also super portable. We take it when we travel so we can watch college games on WatchESPN (if they won't be televised. My list of gripes is short: 1) Lack of dedicated app store, you're stuck with whatever is already on there, you cannot download different/ new apps. You're at the mercy of Apple updating the firmware. 2) No PLEX, or at least it's not easy. I haven't even bothered to try. 3) It doesn't categorize your content when you're playing from your computer. For instance I had a couple seasons of Dexter and Breaking Bad on my laptop. I had to scroll through every single one of the 130 some odd videos I have on my laptop to find the exact episode I'm looking for. A list nested by season or show would be nice. 4) No USB support for external storage, but seeing as you can stream from iTunes it's not a big deal. 5) Nitpicking, but the Netflix app does NOT autoplay the next episode, and it's hard to tell which episodes you've already watched. I think that's it, great product. A little limited, but if you already have an Apple ecosystem going then I say go for this over Roku.

Quite frankly, the Apple TV is the most used consumer electronic device in our house, by far. Surprisingly even more than the TV, to which it is attached, because we stream music directly to it as well, without turning on the TV. It' almost always on, either playing music, showing photos or playing TV shows and movies. We have decided a few years ago that we switch all our electronic devices to Apple products because they can work together so seamlessly. The Apple TV is something like the window to everything Apple; this is the ultimate presentation device. It has access to all our devices and can play or display pretty much all the content we ever purchased/downloaded/created, straight on the big screen. It's super easy to use and the interface is fast and responsive. We own a Samsung TV and a Samsung Blu-ray player, both of which actually have access to Netflix and other online services built-in, but boy ... you don't want to use them, believe me. They are laggy, ugly, have horrific user interface design, bad image quality and crash all the time. Since we don't have a cable box and we don't watch live TV, the TV is just a dumb box that displays the Apple TV's picture. The Blu-ray player is only used to play Blu-rays and DVDs occasionally. True, content on the Apple TV costs money: Netflix, iTunes, etc. However, if you are an adult with a job who otherwise spends over a $100 on cable TV, then the Apple TV suddenly becomes the potent alternative as an on-demand video box and gateway to all the content you already own.

Love the fact that I have everything in one place! and I'm able to airplay from my phone, iPad and/or my Macbook Pro. I used to have to connect my computer thru the cables to the actual tv so I can use it to project certain movies or projects. Now its so simple and wireless! And best of all I have all my channels/ tv shows I love to watch right at my fingertips. The only thing I wish for apple to add is the option of downloading other apps into the apple tv. That would be just great!

This is actually my 2nd Apple TV. I received the exact same model for Christmas a few years back and wanted a 2nd one for a different TV. What can I say? The Apple TV works like a charm. It streams Netflix and Hulu Plus perfectly and takes up very little space. The remote is a tad spartan for my taste, but gets the job done. One of my favorite features (and a feature that's unique to this device) is its ability to stream anything from the iTunes library on my iMac! I will admit that I was a little nervous about buying a refurbished product, but it looks and acts brand new!

I bought this to replace a smart blu-ray player that was never able to stream Netflix and had connectivity issues. The Apple TV is way easier to navigate and use than the smart blu-ray player. It was super easy to set up (minus selecting French as the language which made it tricky to understand). It has no problems streaming and connecting even though the modem and router are in another room. I like that it's small and doesn't take up a lot of space.

We purchased this essentially to replace a cable/satellite box. I am thus far pleased with its perfomance. I like the AirPlay feature. It's nice to be able to stream music and videos to the Apple TV, and I also like that AirPlay can mirror my laptop display, without connecting a DVI or HDMI cable. Very nice touch. It is a bit annoying to have to activate each "channel", but only once per channel, so not that big of a deal. I also was a bit annoyed that Comedy Central wasn't among the channels. I tried playing the Daily Show through the iPhone CC app and then sending it via Air Play to the TV. I found the video to be a bit sluggish, but it plays just fine on the iPhone without using Air Play to the TV. Oh well, I'm being picky I suppose. We also have Chromecast, and I think the Apple TV is a far better device.

Apple's answer to streaming TV - easy to set up, easy to use, and looks and feels like quality like all Apple products. It is small and unassuming on your entertainment center so it's hardly noticeable. Highly recommend this product, especially at the recently reduced price of $69.99. And, don't forget to pick up an HDMI cable if you don't have a spare around the house or you'll be running back to Best Buy before you can enjoy using your new Apple TV!

Contemplated for a while before buying this. Didn't know if we would use it that much as we already have Xbox and a Wii to connect. But we all love the Apple TV. Very easy to use and connect to the apps that we needed. Picture quality comes in great through it. Easy to use with our iPhones and iPads. Love this product!! If you're like me, and already a Mac/Apple user, this thing syncs seamlessly with every device on your home network. It's wi-fi capable, or you can go with the ethernet port. I've used it both ways, and noticed very little difference with streaming content. And that's what this bad boy is for. It essentially transforms your ordinary TV into a smart TV, with apps such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video, and countless others. The best thing, in my opinion is that it is super easy to mirror the display from any other Apple device you might want to see on your TV. Playing a cool game on your iPhone? You can use the Apple TV mirroring feature to see that displayed on your 55 inch HD TV. Good example: racing games. Once you get a feel for it, you don't need to look down at the phone at all. Or, maybe you want to put your iPhoto collection slideshow up during a family gathering... easy. And, with Best Buy's great customer service - if you don't know how to do it, someone there does. The Geek Squad protection is always worth the cost.

I love the Apple tv. Because I can access things on my TV, it makes it so easy to look at photos from my iPad and videos from my computer. Browsing YouTube and other channels is simple too. Only thing I don't care for is the way you have to use the Apple remote to type one letter at a time when searching. If they could improve that, the Apple TV would be perfect!
