Being a HTR Installer, I use these a lot. Always a good solution to expand your content possibilities. The unit is small and thin. Often I will Velcro it to the back edge of a TV. The remote can still control it. It has Wifi so all you need is electricity and an HDMI cable. Plug it up, set up the Wifi and start streaming. Easy enough!

My family is a big movie buyers. It seems like every two weeks we buy a new movie to add to the collection. With the digital copies, we activate them on apple itunes. My family finds apple products easier to use than other interfaces. And the less confusing, the less time I have to be the IT in the family. We use a family share so when we register a movie we can see it on the rest of the phones and this apple TV. The applications are nice and include the basics (hulu, nexflix, youtube, pbsKids). Anything that doesn't have an app we are able to stream to the Apple TV. I was really impressed with the free Apple music festival in London concerts. Very neat thing to have, even if it's for a limited time. The interface is smooth but their are two things that I didn't like. The "keyboard" interface takes a long time with it's "smooth scrolling". Another issue was the lack of apps. I thought I would have an app store like every other Apple device. You get 40 apps and that's it. They are the major ones, but it still feels like ... uh like a cable package. You have all these channels, but you only watch 4, and you really wish you had that one other channel on that "add on" package. Like I said before you can stream apps from your phone to the Apple TV, but it feels like a limitation. For streaming movies via the iTunes and Netflix and TV shows with Hulu plus and PBS Kids, it does a really good job. I think I might just give it to my brother as a gift and maybe upgrade to the new apple TV that addresses the two issues that bugged me. But that's still in the air.

Bought this item for my teenage daughter for Christmas. I was unsure initially if I should get this product or one of the less expensive similar products. After the store associate gave me the pros & cons of the each type, I knew the Apple TV would be perfect for my family as it is compatible with our IPhones, iPads and MacBooks. I love the mirroring function that we can display pictures that we took on our phones directly onto our TV. After a recent trip, I was nice to use that function rather than multiple people looking onto the phone screen. Really, anything can be displayed or mirrored onto the TV. My daughter will go online to check her grades and assignments and I love that she can broadcast it all on the TV set so she can easily show me the information. Overall very happy with the device. The only improvement I would like to see is more apps built into the box. For one, I would really like Pandora built in. Until they upgrade though, it's just as easy to play it on my phone or other device.

I wanted a internet streaming device to supplement my big screen tv, especially for MLB TV. Setup was easy, it would be a good idea to have WiFi information handy if going wireless, You can also connect via Ethernet. The remote is small, but easy to get used to. I have used the MLB TV, HBO Go, PBS, and BIG Ten apps. I haven't had any issues with any. It streams fine and loads quick. For some apps, there is additional signing up/in in order to us them. I have only used MLB TV on a Samsaung TV (as far as streaming devices goes) and Apple is way better. Apple TV responds quicker and has more options for MLB TV. For other apps, it seems to respond better to than a Samsung smart TV. I haven't compared Apple TV to any other streaming devices. I do, however, recommend Apple TV

As the title hints, our household is already well furnished with Apple products. And as it has been said in other reviews in this thread, it will be a much more positive user experience for people who have Mac computers, or iPad / iPhone / iTouch, for these last three can be used as remote controls with an excellent free app ("Remote") from Apple. If it were not for Apple's attention to detail, the installation of the Apple TV could be a bear for less technology-savvy consumers. But, even though I've installed a network or five before, in my mind this couldn't have been easier. Opened up the package, plugged stuff up, and things came right up on the screen. Used the included remote to log in. It should be noted that logging in (This means you have to have an Apple ID login and password) must be done on all devices you plan on involving in what is essentially a kind of network parallel to the wi-fi network you have in your house (although of course it runs on it). You must log in, and turn on Home Sharing, on the Apple TV, in iTunes on any computer you're planning on using, and also on any iPad / iPhone / iTouch you're using as a controller. It should also perhaps be noted that these logins are separate from logins and passwords you may be using for Netflix, Hulu, or any other media you are accessing through Apple TV. This all takes some time, but it's a one-shot deal. The nicest surprise (which I had not come across in my research) about the Apple TV is that it includes a high fidelity TOSLINK optical audio out connection in addition to the HDMI connector. The Sony receiver on our home stereo is rather old-school in that it predates HDMI, so we weren't going to be able to run the Apple TV signal through that. Instead, I'd have to run the HDMI cable directly to our Samsung HDTV. However, the receiver does have TOSLINK inputs, so I just use a cable I had lying around, and I have excellent sound through our stereo speakers. Once everything was up and running, I was very gratified by the far better picture and sound that I was getting compared to streaming Netflix through the Wii (which we have done for several years heretofore). I already knew that the Wii's specs for picture and sound were pretty low, but for me, the increase in performance alone was worth the price of the Apple TV and cable. Apple's attention to the end user experience has always been one of the best features of owning their products, but the icing on the cake for Apple TV is the "Remote" app. Free, simple, and elegant. Once I used it, I knew I'd have to put the included remote in a safe place, because I wouldn't be using it again except in some extraordinary circumstances. There are some complaints in the reviews that the Apple TV lacks certain online media services. This may be the case, but for what it does provide, and for how it performs, we are very pleased. Addendum: This Apple TV is just the gift that keeps on giving. I was under some misapprehensions about the capabilities of AirPlay, specifically AirPlay Mirroring. Google it, go to the Apple support page, and then do enough links. Photos and music may be displayed from your iDevice simultaneously through the Apple TV to your HDTV. Great!

The AppleTV is very easy to use for beginners. It works with all HDTVs. All you need is an HDTV cord which is not included. I can have access to Netflix and YouTube plus multiple apps just like an iPhone. I can also airplane my phone to the TV and control the TV from my device.

Bought this after the price drop. It has become my go-to choice for streaming HD content to my home theater system. Start-up is very quick, and I can be watching a movie in Netflix or Hulu Plus within 15 seconds. It also draws much less power than my other available options; those being the Sony Playstation 3 and Playstation 4. It is about on par with my Nintendo Wii U, but I still opt for the ease of use provided by the Apple TV's no-frills remote. Pairing with iTunes/other computers on the local network was easy, and works well. My only complaint has to do with text input (searching, entering account credentials, etc.) It's slow and slightly frustrating, but doesn't need to be done very often. A haptic click wheel (a la iPod) would've been nice for navigation. Also, I found the Remote function (that being the iPhone/iPad app that can emulate the remote) to be poorly implemented and buggy, but this is an extraneous feature that doesn't impact my rating nor opinion of the device. I like it a lot, and think its current discounted price is spot on.

Very convenient to use. I don't need to connect my ipad to my TV using cable. Apple TV can connect all my Apple devices to TV. Even I don't have a smart TV, I can watch youtube, Netflex, etc on TV. It can be controlled by iphone, ipad, or Apple watch.

Easy to set up and use. Able to stream from iPhone to TV using this, but built in app options are nicer. Unfortunately they seem to change periodically, and there are some that are simply not available on Apple TV. Inputting text with the provided remote control is tedious. Overall, a good and affordable option until they come out with something more sophisticated.

Makes watching movies from iTunes, HBO, Netflix and other services very easy. Setup is as simple as you would expect from an Apple product and it works great. Also allows easy way to display your iPhone or iPad screen onto your TV via AirPlay.

Don't let the size of this black box fool you. It is packed full of performance. I originally purchased Apple TV for the ability to AirPlay my MacBook Pro and my iPad 4 for occasional presentations. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the picture and the how easy it was to install. The box is small and can be easily concealed in the video cabinet or under the tv screen next to the stand. The box was easy to setup including AirPlay. This is another quality product from Apple. I recently switched from Windows to Apple and wished I would have done it years ago.

I just bought my second Apple TV device, right after I cut out cable. I'm able to stream pretty much anything I can find on my computer, and the picture is of good quality. Easy set up and easy to use--I highly recommend the Apple TV.

This product is simple and easy to set up. It requires very little directions. I obtained it at a more than reasonable price given the introduction of the upcoming release of the new model. My favorite function is airplay which allows me not only to perform business presentations on a big-screen TV but also allows me to go in and display documents from my business network and work on them on a larger screen when my eyes are tired. You just can't beat it for the price. I bought one for my nephews and another one for my sister.

I love my Apple TV! It is such an easy setup, very user friendly and pairs perfectly with my other Apple products. It comes with some great features to turn a regular TV into a "smart" TV, at a great price. I use it all the time.

My brand new smart tv and blue-Ray player wouldn't connect to my home network so I decided to try an Apple TV. Set up was super easy, connection never falters, and I absolutely love this for Netflix and my iTunes purchases.

The AppleTV is a great little device and works really well with Apple computers/phones/tablets (via AirPlay) and media stored in iTunes on a computer on your network. They've also added more content "channels" over the last year. The form factor is great and really convenient for traveling -- both for streaming Netflix when stuck in a hotel room and for hooking up to a display/projector to Airplay presentations. If you're tied to an iTunes ecosystem, it's your best option. Drawbacks are that there are several streaming services, most notably Amazon Prime OnDemand, Twitch, and Plex, that won't work on AppleTV (though there is an open-source project that gets Plex working). There's no way to plug a hard drive or flash drive full of movies directly into the AppleTV and play from it -- you have to use iTunes as a front-end server. Finally, the AppleTV (and iTunes) only plays AVI videos (so if you download e.g. MKVs, you'll need to transcode them to AVI first). It's not a perfect device for all use cases but if you're heavily invested in Apple/iTunes or just want something that's basically plug-and-play for streaming Netflix and renting iTunes movies/TV, the AppleTV is your best option.

Works well. Decent streaming service options but would be nice for Apple to add a few more that are available. Especially nice to AirPlay Apple devices to TV. iOS remote app handy and makes Apple TV control much easier.

This apple product is awesome. It gives quite a few free viewing choices on things to watch on your television and hundreds of things to purchase. It is compact in size and looks nice wherever you put it. It also has great features for viewing or doing other things on your television from your phone if you have an IPHONE. The remote is a bit small so it is important to always put it in the same place or mount it with some velcro somewhere so you don't misplace it. They are $20 if you need to get a new one. The only thing I would like to see is for them to continually add more television viewing choices that are free. They may already do this but I have not owed the product long enough to know yet, so time will tell on this recommendation.

Easy plug-and-play with minimum effort to setup. It works seamlessly with all my Apple devices and the interface is really easy to use. It would be great if there were more free channels available, similar to Roku.

The Apple TV is hands down the best accessory for any Apple user like myself. Everyone in my family currently owns an iPhone and some version of the iPad and I also have a MacBook Pro and an iMac. The Apple TV allows me to mirror any screen from any of my devices to my tv as well as airplay for music and videos. Being a subscriber of iTunes Match also gives me access to my entire music library in the cloud right from my Apple TV. The Apple TV is also great for people who don't have a Smart TV with built in apps. This way, you can watch you favorite movies and TV shows on Netflix, Hulu, etc. I have now purchased three of these devices and have them on every single TV in the house! Everybody with Apple products should have this device.
