A decent film romp, if not amazing

3.5☆ This is the best comic book movie I've seen in quite a while. Although I can't give it a perfect 5 star rating (there was something missing I just can't put my finger on), it was definitely a must-see for sci-fi/fantasy film buffs. The CGI was beautiful, the action sequences were fun. It was also awesome to see a female character who was worth something! Most of the time we get these pouty-lipped broads with big butts and boobs who just serve as eye candy but are useless to the story. I don't blow 17 clams at the box office to see a dingbat sex kitten in a skin-tight bodysuit. Mera's character came through, though, as a worthy companion and wingwoman for Aquaman. I also thought it was fun seeing old, familiar faces (Willem Dafoe & Dolph Lundgren). Jason Momoa wouldn't have been my first choice for the lead (seriously, he's really got a classic villain face; he nailed it in Bullet to the Head), but he did okay. Patrick Wilson's presence was a bit surprising in the role of the archenemy, but he also managed to pull it off well. This is a fun, entertaining flick; I definitely recommend it. The DC comic films have been more enjoyable for me than the Marvel movies. Marvel has made a genuine mess by intertwining all the heroes and adding new ones (only to slaughter some of them), whereas so far, DC has kept the film franchise a good deal simpler.

A good movie . There are with all movies plot holes ,but you can live with it. Aquaman was better than most people believed. It seems DC does better with single hero movies then a group of heroes like Justice league. Aquaman is not one of DC's main stream heros , yet with Jason Momoa as Aquaman upped the anti. This is another origin story which in this case was needed to launch this super hero. This movie crushed in the box office and I heard there will be a Aquaman 2. Now the 4K video is a 5 out of 5 , bright colors, in HDR .I'm not set up for Dolby vision so I can't comment on it. Since Dolby vision needs a 12 bit panel to see true Dolby vision ,even if I had DV I still wouldn't see it like in a Dolby Cinema theater. Our TVs have 10 bit panels, no consumer TVs have 12 bit panels. But the HDR does the job with inky blacks and bright brights. The audio track in Dolby Atmos is one of the best tracks I have heard. If you want to show off your 4K home theater this movie will do the job. Highly recommended.

Fun and explosive, but very generic storyline

This movie I really wanted to like more, but unfortunately just could not. It's a lot of fun to watch, but the story is incredibly predictable. Once I turned off my brain and stopped guessing what would happen next, I started to enjoy the movie. It's a long watch in over 2 hours. Specifically reviewing the 4K Blu-ray: 1. The Dolby Vision on this disc is fantastic and would highly recommend watching the movie if this is all you are looking for in at-home movies. 2. The audio mixing is explosive and pulls you in. The underwater scenes can be a little off-putting for the audio of the movie dialogue, but I didn't personally mind this. (They change the way dialogue sounds underwater.) Unfortunately, I was not able to turn it up too loud due to neighbors. I imagine it would be enjoyable with the volume up and a proper Atmos setup.

The DCU Continues To Refine Their Brand

As a fan of the recent DCU films, particularly Wonder Woman, I was really anticipating the release of this installment but it turned out to be more than I expected. The story continues the the plot line set up in Justice League and delivers the continuation of that story but with way too much over the top CGI action. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy CGI effects as much as the next fan of this genre but too much is too much and in this case it takes away from the story. Otherwise the underwater world of Atlantis if a wonder to look at but the performances are a bit lackluster. I'll recommend it only to those DC fans out there that are also collectors of the films.

What could have been the best 3D release since the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 steelbook with both 4K AND 3D (WITH a changing aspect ratio AND dolby atmos soundtrack) treats us 3d fans again with contempt - as DC gives us 3D with only the widescreen aspect ratio throughout (and ridiculously gives us changing 16:9 aspect ratios on the Blu-ray for God knows what reason).. AND a crap 5.1 soundtrack instead of a full-blown dolby atmos track on the 3d. COME ON. These companies have killed 3d so they can sell you some new version of 3d in the future. Otherwise a fun 4 STAR movie with a tearful finale GIVEN 2 star treatment in 3d..WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN!!

AQUAMAN WAS ON MY "MUST SEE" LIST. I WAS EXCITED TO BUY THIS BLUE RAY SET. I DID LIKE THE FILM. THE STORY IS ALWAYS THE MOST IMPORTANT CRITERION, AND THIS STORY WAS COMPELLING. I NAIVELY EXPECTED THE FILMING OF THIS "DC COMICS" to be up to the level of "competing" MARVEL COMICS' MOVIES, but it fell well short of that of "AVENGERS END GAME," whose filming set a new standard. If, like me, you want to see "Aquaman" and have not seen it in theaters, then you'll be glad to buy it and view it at home. Don't expect it to be anywhere close to the pinnacle of quality that Marvel or Lucas Films [both Disney] clearly commands.

As a fan of comic books movies, I was a little disappointed. Too much of the self denying hero sctick for Aquaman that it became boring and tedious. And what's a movie, nowadays, that doesn't hav an environmental story woven into it? It's as if the writers feel that they must enlighten everyone with their keen insights. Also, as to the story plot, I felt it to be weak and contrived. This advanced ancient race wants to destroy humanity because humanity is polluting the oceans. Why not go to the surface and discuss it before going to war? One more thing, what's the deal with every superhero being a comedian? Enough said enough, already.

I was hoping for big things for this movie. While it was certainly better than the Superman/Batman movies, it did not hold up to Wonder Woman (and certainly not to the best of the Marvel movies). I felt like Jason Momoa did a good job with the material as presented, but was pulled down by the script and the other acting. Other bits (like some of the song montages) seemed like something out of bad 80s movies (unsure if that was intentional but they were played way too earnestly to have been a spoof). I'll probably re-watch but won't get a regular viewing.

This movies suffered from several flaws. (1) dynamic letterbox. The movie did not remain the same widescreen as the theatrical version. (2) Absolutely cheesy. 75% of this film is like a cartoon. Ex: Octopus playing drums, horrible jokes, and old school power ranger looking enemies with similar fighting styles. If you're looking for another Wonder Woman or Man of Steal, unfortunately, Aquaman is not that movie. SHAME D.C., you've made another bust similar to Justice League.

Superhero movies are becoming a dime a dozen each year. They all seem to have about the same plots...well; almost all movies with good guys and bad guys have the same plots. Bad guys do something bad...good guy/girl comes and punishes him/her. Aquaman has a similar plot as the others but has DC's budget for "big time" special effects to keep us all coming back for more.

This movie is pretty entertaining for what it is; in large part because it doesn’t seem to follow the gritty tone of the other DC movies. I purchased the standard blu-ray, which looks great, but after watching it, I kind of wish I had purchased the 3D version as some of the underwater scenes seem like they would look more amazing in 3D.

Really? This movie was declared to get the DC Movie Universe on track? I LOVE the idea, but the execution was corny, silly graphics, and bad acting. And Jason Mamoa, sure he’s a good looking guy, but the music can’t always give away his moods. Sorry if I’m rambling, but I should have bought it digitally. On sale. Not an actual blur at. Not worth it really

If you like huge CGI battle scenes, predictable plots and campy 80s movie dialogue you'll love this big budget hokey DC crapfest. It was on par with Justice League as far at story and plot but still just a typical comic book 2 hour action sequence. The CGI still looks like lousy actors in front of a green screen.

The story line started very good. But then had a tendsey to go a little long. I believe it would have been better if it would have been 20mins shorter. The sound was great and colors just popped. I would recommend this movie to some but only if you are into action movies. I curious to see the next installment.

I suppose if you grade the movie by comparing it to the other DC Universe movies, it was pretty good. Taken out of that context, I could take or leave it. The steelbook design is fine enough, but I'm not a huge fan of the animated covers. I'd prefer something that actually shows some kind of visual from the movie instead.

I didn't expect much from this Justice League memeber's origin story. Aquaman was only ever been taken seriously in the Comics, yet I have no doubt he could easily kick Batman's butt. The movie was above average (B+) with rather stunning visual effects - esp in this 4k release. Recommend if you're into DCU movies.

The disc was inside the box & wasn’t loose ( you be surprised how often I come across that ). The actor was good & he has an actual backstory, the villain was okay I guess . Plus some scenes do make the protagonist somewhat impressive. Flaws are that it is lengthy & some stuff does feel redundant.

I really was enjoying this movie until they went to the desert, and then it developed some pretty significant pacing problems and never really recovered. Black Manta is kind of a weak villain as well. Still some fun moments though. Where else are you gonna see Willem Dafoe ride a hammerhead shark?

Looks great, the casting is fine, but most DC flicks don't hold up to Marvel. Short of WW and the Dark Knight trilogy, they just fall short. My guess is the humor in the writing. I have fond memories of the Richard Donner Supermans, and it has to be the writing. "Why so serious?"

Aquaman is raised as a human, but his mother was the queen of Atlantis. He is asked, by a beautiful princess, to join the fight against a prince of Atlantis, who wants to start a war against humans. To stop the war, he must battle the prince for the throne.
