I had Arlo for 8+ years. The original cameras are still working fine. So I know what I am talking about, and know how to work around problems. In the past, I looked into competition, only to go back to Arlo and buy more cameras.
This new camera is terrible. The motion sensing does not work. With absolutely no motion, the camera goes into a frenzy of fake motion sensing. If you restart it, it will not rejoin the network.
The new Arlo app is also terrible. The old app was simple and intuitive. Arlo support says they had to build a new app because of "new features" on this new camera. It forced me to update. First, there is less customization, only 3 modes: away, home and standby. I thought no problem, I will customize by toggling each cameras off/on in the standby mode. Well, instead of one button, you have to go *deep* in the menu. You want to quickly adjust the motion sensitivity? Go even deeper in the menu. No easy access like in the past. The entire things is way too flashy, as if wants to induce seizures. Click on "devices" and you get dancing windows instead of a simple list like in the past.
Finally, to add insult to injury, they ended my promotional 75% off subscription early because I opted into a "superior experience" or so. It does not get more condescending than that.
I am afraid to return it because I am not sure it erases everything once you remove it form the app.

Excellent image resolution, and I love that it has the option to close the camera for privacy when we're at home. The audio transmission is a bit slow

Limited range and does not hold a charge for very long. Recommend spending the extra money and purchasing the Arlo 5s 2k.

I'm heavily invested in the Arlo system with 14 cameras spread across two homes. I've had the older Q indoor cameras for a while and decided to update them to the Essential Indoor cameras. Setup went fine until it forced me to update the Arlo software on my phone. The new software is NOT very user friendly and features that had been easy to access (like turning off the camera status LED) are impossible to find. Even the function for rearranging the camera order changed and DOES NOT work well at all. I spent an hour searching for a way to turn off the status LED (it's an indoor camera, I don't want the LED shining constantly) and couldn't find it. The user manual was worthless. I box the two cameras I bought back up and returned them. The old Q's will work. I just now need to find a way to roll back to the older software.

Not Worth The Money

The quality and connectivity is subpar for the price you pay, especially for monitoring. The Arlo app is expensive when comparing to other brands, and then you have to pay to be able to scrub the clips forward or back, and that’s ridiculous. We sadly returned after a week and went another route. Also, don’t expect their wireless 2K to be a clear pic.
