Frustrations in the World of Surveillance Cameras

Regrettably, the cost-effectiveness takes a nosedive post-trial, courtesy of a subscription that leans towards the steep side. Navigating the app proves to be a less-than-pleasant experience, and the frustration escalates with the inability to seamlessly integrate an additional camera into the unlimited plan. Despite a strong internet connection, the camera's live feed seems to take its sweet time loading.
Adding to the exasperation is the camera's puzzling inability to detect motion through windows – a baffling limitation, especially when strategically placing it to keep an eye on potential mischief-makers outside. The lone redeeming feature, the commendable quality of the feed, is overshadowed by another headache: a lack of discernment in motion detection.
Picture this: notifications flood in for every trivial movement, be it a change in lighting or the gentle sway of curtains. A high-resolution marvel it may be, but the frustration mounts as the camera insists on capturing and alerting for every minute disturbance, rather than just the critical stuff – you know, people and animals while indoor.
In essence, while the camera flaunts its prowess in resolution, it's akin to having a powerful engine in a car with a host of other critical components missing or malfunctioning. Frustratingly close to being great, but held back by glaring oversights that matter in the grand scheme of things.

Camera requires reboot to access live feed.

Decent camera, although every time I want to access the live feed I have to reboot the camera. Because of this, I am not going to pay for the camera service and just have it in place for when not home during the day and not worry about incurring a cost for the Arlo service.

Overpriced when you include you must also pay for a subscription to really get any features at all. They should print that on the outside of the box.

Good quality, indoor camera

I already own a couple of Arlo cameras that are outdoor, battery–powered ones and I’ve been very happy with them so I was eager to try out the indoor, wired version. My main purpose for getting this camera is to keep an eye on my two cats when I’m not home, with the goal of having some basic monitoring in place if ever left alone for an extended period of time. Out of the box, I was happy to find that the cord of the camera is really long. Most people should find that it will reach an outlet near wherever they decide to put their camera. Setting up the camera was a little bit more tedious than my previous Arlo cameras but the process is still simple to work through. With the newer generation camera, I was forced to update my Arlo app on my phone. I didn’t really care for the format changes made to the app, but it’s still easy enough to figure out. For me, the best feature of this camera is the privacy shield and the fact that it is automated – meaning you can control it from the app. Since I only intend to use this camera to spy on my cats, it’s nice to know and visibly see that the shield is covering the camera when not in use. Image quality is excellent for my needs, in both daylight and nighttime conditions. The camera has a pretty wide camera angle at 130 degrees, which I found to be more than adequate for indoor use. Like my others Arlo cameras the motion detection sensitivity of the cameras is excellent. The two-way audio seemed fairly decent. When talking to my cats it sounded like there was a bit of feedback a couple times, but overall they did respond to me calling their names (with much confusion) so the sound was still clear enough for them to respond. The only real negative with this camera is that there isn’t a backup battery option with it. It’s not a deal breaker for me, but for those looking to have a wired camera with a backup battery, this one wouldn’t fit the bill.

Siren stuck on

Had a geofencing mishab and the siren is stuck on. I can't plug it in without the siren going off.
It requires a subscription to view recordings. I found that out shortly after the return window closed.
