This is my third wireless security camera system setup in recent years. The Arlo - Essential 4-Camera Outdoor Wireless 2K Security Camera (2nd Generation) is a truly wireless battery powered system that does not require a hub or home base, just a WiFi connection. The setup process is simple and straightforward once you install the Arlo secure App and after fully charging the built-in battery. The cameras came with some charge, so technically you could set them up right away and charge later but it is recommended you fully charge before setting them up and especially before you mount them. Unlike other brands, Arlo uses the latest USB-C charging connector, so it’s easy to find additional chargers or cables to get all four cameras charged simultaneously. It took almost 2 hours to fully charge. Anyway, once connected to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network the camera quickly checked and installed a firmware update and then I moved on to adding the other 3 cameras to the app. In terms of image quality, 2K QHD is noticeably sharper than 1080p and these Arlo 2nd generation cameras provide excellent video quality and a pretty wide 130 degree viewing angle. The cameras have built-in spot light and also a speaker and a pretty good microphone for two way communication and alarms. Additionally there are motion detection sensors as well as decent infrared night vision and a color night-mode that works pretty well but it will consume more battery. The Arlo App comes with many customizations and alerts for motion detection options and zones to fine tune to your specific installation. The algorithm for detection of moving objects such as human, car, pet works quite well, but unfortunately the recording of clips is only available with a $5/mo cloud subscription. There is no local storage recording option, no micro-SD memory slot like other similarly priced systems. I totally understand the cloud recording option is more secure vs. a local recording that a perpetrator could potentially walk away with, but if you’re on a tight budget, having to pay yet another subscription may not be an option. Overall, these cameras work pretty well but if you’re not already invested into the Arlo brand there are other competing systems available that offer both cloud and local recording options and better battery life, though you can get a solar panel charger to alleviate one of the shortcomings of this system.

Replaced my Arlo Essential cameras with the newest version. Easy set up and 2k camera quality!

Another good arlo product at reasonable price. Uses c plug for charging so needed adapter from micro usb cord for long term power. Hopefully they will update software to work with their hub ,besides dird t wifi hookup.

Camera is very nice. Has a fixed view but captures a wide view. Notifications are great too.

I’ve own Arlo cameras for many years despite some issues I’ve had good experience. These Gen 2s are terrible and they expect you to pay a monthly per camera fee to maintain even basic functions. Even during the free trail they constantly freeze and I had to close phone to move on

These are easy to mount and function well. However, they do not have the adjustable 'motion detection zones' to block out high traffic or movement areas.

Couple of things, i have these about 50yrds away with a direct line of sight to my dedicated router that is mounted in the window. Sometimes they connect sometime not. I also have the earlier model and they connect fine, these are junk. Please know that all of the spotlight models turn on the spotlight when live viewing at night, or they sense motion regardless of settings. Arlo says that you cannot change this feature. That feature is stupid , it lets anyone out there know that the camera is there and exactly where the camera is. Guess I will paint over the spotlight since reselling these on ebayis a joke at 25 bucks a peice - which says how much they are really worth. The battery also sucks, on avg after about 4wks they need recharged. They are lithium so I dont let them go below 50%. I did finally put them on solar, still junk though
