Ignored some of the reviews but I shouldn’t of have. The pic is not good, the microphone sounds like it’s an EVP for ghost hunting. The motion dectection caught nothing at all! The lights did not turn on or sense anyone walking by. Not to mention, it has a HUGE lag. Setting up the cameras, the real time was very disappointing! Anyone can be trying to break in to your car, if you’re lucky you’ll get notified. But when you look into your phone and go outside they’ll be gone! Horrible lag, not worth the price at all!

Purchased to remote monitor a location with WiFi, the cameras work ok if you are on the same network as the camera but not different networks. Contacted support, they basically rehearsed from a script, no product knowledge. Returned, not acceptable.

I recently upgraded my home security system with the Arlo Essential 4-Camera Outdoor Wireless 2K Security Camera (2nd Generation) and it was well worth it. Out of the gate, the setup process was a breeze. The cameras easily connected to my Wi-Fi network, and the Arlo app guided me through each step with clear instructions. It took me less than an hour to get everything up and running, which is huge IMO. The picture quality of these cameras is truly impressive. The 2K resolution provides crystal-clear images, making it easy to identify faces or keeping an eye on those holiday packages. This high resolution, coupled with the camera's wide field of view, ensures that every corner of my property is covered. I highly recommend 4 cameras- this really is the sweet spot for the best coverage. Speaking of the app, it's been a seamless experience. Navigating through the features is intuitive, and I love how I can customize settings for each camera. Whether it’s adjusting motion sensitivity or setting up activity zones, the app makes it all straightforward. The real-time notifications are prompt, keeping me informed of any activity around my house. Video loading times are also much faster than previous generations I’ve used. One of the standout features for me has been the colored night vision. It's fascinating how these cameras can capture detailed, colored images even in low-light conditions. This adds an extra layer of security, as I can see more than just glowing white objects (If you know, you know). The biggest downside is the battery life. While the cameras don't need frequent charging, the fact that I've mounted them under the eaves of my roof means accessing them for battery changes will be a bit of a hassle. I'll need a ladder to reach them, which is something to consider for anyone thinking of a similar setup. It’s a small price to pay for the peace of mind and security these cameras provide, but definitely something to keep in mind when choosing a mounting location. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this setup. The Arlo Essential 4-Camera set has delivered on its promises, providing top-notch security with excellent picture quality and user-friendly features. Despite the minor inconvenience of battery replacement, I would highly recommend this system to anyone looking to enhance their home security.

These things worked my last nerve. Setting these things up was a pain. I left one out in my dinning room window because we where going on vacation and we where going to just put one up when we got back to see how good it was. I checked in with the one camera and was using the microphone to speak to my cat and it was not clear it hurt my ears with that high pitch noise it was doing. The night vision didn't work and the picture wasn't clear and anything and everything would set this off. I couldn't deal with them and returned when we got back home.

Beware of Subscription Costs Continually Increasin

The cameras are okay but the subscription pricing increases that have occurred in the past few years have doubled what it once costed to access the features of these cameras. The "new" features offered do not justify the increased cost and seems like a money grab. I'm canceling my subscription and going with a new system.

    Great addition to my system

This is a great addition to the arlo system and is also great as a standalone camera as this does not require connection to the hub. Just make sure you lock your wifi signal to 2.4ghz at install or else you will have a hard time connecting this to the network. Video is sharp, even if its not 4K. Motion sensing is on point and camera angle is wide enough to cover my 40ft wide back patio without having to install the camera higher than 8ft. Install is easy too, and the included bracket makes your camera secure from possible theft. I love that the light can be motion activated and given that its installed at a back patio, the brightness is decent without being too bright like a floodlight. Camera is also good in the dark and it actually has color but i dont rely on it for detail. Audio is clear and the mic is pretty sensitive. Arlo's updated app is also great. I can make the most of the camera with the widgets, and it gives me the ability to adjust everything, like light levels, areas to monitor and audio settings. This just means that this camera has all the capabilities and customizations and the app only helps customize the setup. As I mentioned earlier, it is a standalone camera and can act as a single security device, especially it has motion sensing, 2 way audio and a siren. My only con to this is, it does not preview the stream into my google home dashboard. One of the things I love about Arlo is how its system can be added onto the google home system unlike other security camera brands. Its not a dealbreaker but i just hope there can be a software update in the future to enable this. For the price, capabilities and features, Arlo has made home quality security coverage more attainable for everyone.

    Arlo is good, not great

This is not my first set of Arlo cameras, in fact, I've had a set of Arlo cameras for such a long time that I recently received an email from them telling me that the base unit was going end of life and that I'd need to replace it (very first gen set of Arlo cameras). I have enjoyed the Arlo cameras I have, in fact I like them so much I've recommended them to many family and friends. But that recommendation always comes with a caveat. You kinda need the subscription. Back when I first got the Arlo cameras, some of the features like activity zones were added for free, then they removed that and made it part of the subscription, where it now remains. Same goes for saving any sort of video timeline. Be that as it may, this is more about the cameras than the service. Arlo's 'essential' line of cameras is aimed to be a 'little' more affordable than their pro line, they tend to be slimmed up in capability while still offering you all the things you need to get a DIY-type security system in place. For the most part, they succeed. The setup goes much as you'd expect, open the app, let it search for the camera, add it to the app, rinse and repeat. I actually much prefer the base-station design because it just seems less cumbersome and temperamental during setup specifically, but once you get past that part, they tend to run pretty much without fail. As for quality, I will say these are quite nice, both in terms of build quality and image quality of the videos. They may not be quite the 4k level of their 'pro' line, but when you're watching it on your phone in a 2-inch window, does 4k really matter? I'd argue no. A quick note worth mentioning, these are touted as outdoor cameras, and while yes of course you could use them indoors, I'd recommend if you plan on using them outdoor, get the solar panel so you arent having to take them down to charge. It's an added expense but the convenience is unbeatable, it's one of the things that Arlo has really done better than many of their competitors. Once the cameras are placed, usage is fairly straightforward, they have manual alarms, 2-way audio and color night vision (which is rather cool, especially coming from the older black-and-white only night vision versions of my older cameras). If you do go with the subscription, be prepared to adjust your activity zones and sensitivity, as it may take a little finesse to get it from sending you too many false positives depending on the environment that you set up the cameras in. All in all, it's another good product from Arlo, the caveats being that you really do need the subscription to fully benefit from their capabilities (something some of their competitors really dont require, thus the reduction in one star on the rating), and that value-add of buying a solar panel for each camera really is worth it.

Clear video with 4 cameras in the package

Arlo Essential Outdoor 2K Security Camera 4 pack The cameras are the 2nd Generation Arlo 2K video resolution devices which operate wirelessly and on a rechargeable battery. Unfortunately, the battery is not replaceable and wondering why that was the design. Maybe for an adventurous owner the device is easily opened, and the battery is replaceable but officially it is not. From some usage time I learned that the camera's battery will last about a week or two on a charge if you set the built-in LED to light on movement. The Box indicates this packaging is a Best Buy Exclusive. The packaging of the 4 cameras in 1 box also includes a yard sign which says "Protected ARLO smart security". Arlo offers a subscription service which has the first 30 days free but still requires a credit card number to start the subscription. The camera mounting base that comes with it does not swivel, pan or tilt. It allows viewing from whatever surface it is attached on. This is a good packaging of 4 cameras; they deliver good imaging and will no doubt provide a level of video documentation if anything illegal happens and also deterring some potential illegal activity from happening both with the visible cameras and with the yard sign supplied in the package. This home camera works as an Amazon Alexa device, Google device, Apple HomeKit device and Samsung SmartThings device. Clear video – 2K video capability makes images very clear indeed, the night time vision is also pretty good. Fully weatherproof – Time will tell since I have not had Arlo cameras before but that is a good feature. You only get notified when something enters the zone selected for activation. At night the “spotlight” function is Ok but definitely not a powerful spotlight. It provides increased clarity on nighttime videos but will not work as a general-purpose spotlight for your property. Each camera has two-way audio which allows users to communicate to anyone within hearing range of the built in small speaker and microphone. There is also a “Siren” feature which sounds a louder tone to both announce that cameras are on the property and potentially scare away someone who won't expect to be under surveillance. To get the full capability from these cameras the paid monthly plan is required. There is not indication on the packaging this is the case. The basic plan starts at $5.00 per month. Using the Arlo app for smartphones, a user will be notified when the camera detects movement in the predefined zone of activity. The app allows setting the sensitivity and detection zones. By learning the app more of the useful capability of the cameras will be gained and the users will receive less in false notifications. I recommend this camera to anyone who wishes to increase their peace of mind for their home.
