I am happy with Arlo Wired Video Doorbell. It is helpful to have especially if you have packages delivered frequently. It will call your cell phone and ring your regular doorbell chime when someone at your door presses the doorbell button. You may speak to them through your cell phone & they may speak back to you, or you may set it to send an automated pre-recorded message if you don’t answer. It will pick up cars going by or anything else in its range. However, you may set activity zones which will only notify you for movement only in your designated activity zone, & that cuts off unwanted notifications. You may also mute notifications if you like. The video quality is good with a good 180-degree view from head to toe of who is standing at your door, or a package on the ground. There is a wired version & a rechargeable battery operated one, but I would suggest the wired one to avoid having to recharge the battery. With a subscription you will have smart notifications which will tell you if it is an animal, vehicle, person, or package. You will need to subscribe to Arlo Secure to be able to get its full functionality.

After doing some DB cam research, I decided to go with Arlo. Easily installed & set up but it would've been nice if there was a lil more room in the back to store the wires. Used the angle mount it came with since my old DB spot is a lil too narrow. Even on a lil angle, the view is very wide. I like having the e911, call a friend & siren options if ever needed. Clear video & good night vision. I bought it on sale, then was able to do a price adjust (paid under $100) so I definitely got a great deal. I don't understand the difference between activity zones (are set up) & motion detection. Guess I could test it by turning off motion detection. Bought a router.
It was easy to change the wifi network just wish the reset button was somewhere else. How often am I gonna reset it anyway. I've actually only been using it just over a month but so far so good. Any minor issues I thought I had were because of me, not Arlo. Lol

I bought the "wired" version because I don't like replacing batteries if I don't have to. You must have 16 volts ac present at the lead wires at the doorbell push switch for this puppy to work. I knew going in that I would need to go up in the attic and replace the transformer because it was only putting out 11 VAC. I was able to use the existing wiring with the original door chime in the house. The increased voltage made the chime much louder which was also rated at 16VAC. I already had an Arlo video camera and Arlo router that my son gave me for Christmas. I followed the installation instructions in the ARLO app for adding a device and was up and running in about 20 minutes once I had the power connected. I installed the video doorbell with the beveled mounting plate but I wish the camera would swivel for fine adjustments. Very clear video day or night. Porch light or no porch light. It even alerted me while I was at work that an animal was detected was at the door. Sure enough my cat was waiting at the door to get in. The doorbell calls your phone when pressed and you can talk to the person from anywhere. They don't know if you're home or not. I like that feature. The sound is better than the non video arlo doorbell and I'm glad I did the upgrade during the Best Buy sale.

Exceptional Video Doorbell Experience

I've really enjoyed how companies are making it easier for regular people to add cameras to their home. Whether for keeping an eye on whose home, when your package is coming, or security purposes - there are a lot of great benefits to these. I have experience with home security camera before, and the Arlo Video Doorbell is my favorite thus far!
SETUP:
- Unboxing the Arlo is pretty straight forward. They have a few straight forward items in the box and then instructions to download the Arlo App (which you will need to download) but otherwise that's it.
- Setting up the Arlo Video Doorbell was by far the most straight forward DIY home security tech setup I have ever experienced! Seriously, I was so very impressed with my overall setup experience. All you have to do is follow the step by step guide on the Arlo App on your phone and its pretty easy from there, only took me maybe 15 minutes. All you do is turn off the power to your doorbell, do some minor electrical work, and boom you are done! Just make sure you have a screwdriver and maybe a power screwdriver.
- After the Doorbell was all setup, I just had to do a few minor tweaks in the app. Making sure the "Activity Zone" is set to the area I want it to and various settings like that. Overall very easy and it was ready to go.
PROS:
- Right off the bat, I was really impressed by the video quality! I know its not "4K" but I still found the HDR portion of the camera to really highlight the scene well and make it easy to see who or what was on the camera.
- The aspect ratio of the doorbell is great too because I can see all the way from the overhang of my front porch to the cement floor. Its a nice way to get the whole picture while also being able to see what packages might be there.
- Also the night vision is very impressive as well! Sometimes night vision is hard for cameras but I have felt this one is still really clear and I had a good picture of everything going on.
- Another thing I really really liked about the Video Doorbell was how it records events. If an "event" alert records, I notice the camera records a few moments before it happened, and then a few after. Meaning if someone comes up around the corner, it doesn't just start recording as soon as they are in front of the camera, it is smart enough to show you what led up to it!
- The Doorbell works really well as a doorbell naturally! The button syncs up with my existing chime in my home, and when someone presses it you get an alert and can choose to talk to them or whatever may be! And its nice because you could chat with someone when you are 100 miles away since it has that feature.
- I know this is minor, but I do enjoy how its "wired" because I don't have to worry about charging it and I didn't have to run new electric lines to the camera since there was already some there with the old doorbell.
CONS:
- This is extremely common with DIY home security cams or video doorbells, but you will have a netter experience with the Arlo if you have a paid subscription plan. This allows you to not miss out on anything that is captured aka if you are gone for a weekend and 20 actions trigger the camera, you will want to see all 20 events. Its only $3 a month and to me, that's worth it.
BOTTOM LINE:
- If you have been wanting a video doorbell to keep on eye on things, then this is seriously a fantastic pick for you! It is super simple to hook up, the Arlo app is really enjoyable to use, and you will have a crisp clear camera that lets you talk with whoever is at your door. I'm very excited to continue using this doorbell and I think you would be too.

Why must I pay again and again and again

The Arlo Video doorbell has much to like and also has many annoyances. The setup is very easy as Arlo does a very good job of providing step by step instructions within the app. Setup is a breeze and within a few minutes the video doorbell was up and running. Where Arlo goes wrong starts with the power supply that you must install within your chime box. The power supply is quite large and I wonder how many chimes boxes it fits in with ease. For me it was a chore to move wires and tuck it in a corner where it tightly sits against the side of the chime box cover. Surely, Arlo needs to address this and try to get that power supply box cut down in size. You are limited where it can be installed. The next annoyance comes in the fact that the video camera is larger than the average shingle or clapboard. The average spacing on a shingle or clapboard is 5 to 5 1/2 inches. The video camera is larger. This means that the bottom screw to the video camera has no support and is visible from the sides. Arlo should provide a wedge that would fill the space under the shingle/clapboard giving the bottom screw and the video camera itself more support. See my photo attached. The video camera is of very good quality. The wide 180 degree viewing angle is quite good. The design is very good too. You can set viewing area activity zones by pinching and adjusting the view. Good luck with that as that is a chore to complete. The video camera comes with some cool features like a phone call to you when the doorbell rings. A message can be left if you don't answer. It also has the ability to record and store video clips of larger sizes. Two way speaker capability is very good. Here is the problem, all of those features are behind a paywall. Out of the box you are set up with a 90 day free trial, but after that get ready to pay a monthly subscription fee for these services. This fact makes this video doorbell nothing but a doorbell with a short videoclip that cannot be stored without paying. If you are good with that then I recommend the Arlo video camera. If like me, you think that these features should be a part of the purchase price then this is item is a disappointment. It is too bad that Arlo wants to keep you in the payment mode because some of these features are quite good and work well. I just don't think I should pay for them again and again and again

Bought the wired version of the Essential Wi-Fi Smart Video Doorbell during Black Friday sale. Combined with the Arlo Pro 4 Security Bundle it makes for a good camera package. The video doorbell and it's chime remote were easy to install. Set up in the app was straightforward and only took around 10 minutes.
The field of view is good and notifications can include or be restricted to only persons, animals, vehicles, and all other motion. The video doorbell (unlike the Pro 4 camera in my experience) also does a good job of confining motion sensing to the activity zone you set.
Happy with the purchase and the Black Friday sale price.

I do like the sleek look of the Arlo over the clunky looking Ring. I had the Ring for 4 years and it gave out so we’re trying Arlo since we already have the Arlo cameras. I think the picture is just as good as the Ring. It was easy to set up in our existing Arlo app. The only thing I don’t like is that you get a phone call when someone rings your doorbell. I find this very disruptive. I just want a notification on my phone not a phone call. If you disable it, it also disables the doorbell chime in your house. I would think they could fix that with a software update. Besides that, I would give it five stars. To me it’s a deal breaker and I may return it for the Ring Pro like I previously had.

I got the hard wired model and love it. It's always on, has a good field of view (despite being partially obscured by a mailbox), and was fairly easy to install and set up. It's a great addition/compliment to the Ultra 2 3-camera system I already had.

This video doorbell was very easy to install and configure using the online instructions. Also, it is one of the few video doorbells narrow enough to fit in the space I had available, about 1.75". It has a large field-of-view yet produces a very nice image, with fish eye distortion only obvious at the periphery of the image. I'm still in the 3-month free trial of the cloud storage, but at only $3/month, I'm certain I'll maintain it. I don't know if I have it setup exactly as I want, but it's easy to configure an activity zone that doesn't trigger on vehicle traffic or people walking by on the sidewalk, while still maintaining rapid response to someone approaching the door. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

Smart Motion Alerts Work
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I had concerns about the look of this doorbell at first, but take your time with the install and you will love it. Motion alerts are the reason to have one of these and they have exceeded my expectations. We get a ton of packages, which makes the package detection feature a lifesaver.
Pros
- Motion alerts are fast and accurate. The previews provided by the app on my phone are great - with motion type (person or package) and a useful screen capture that highlights the person or object.
- You can set what type of motion events trigger alerts. I have mine set to show only people and packages (ignoring animals and vehicles). I have yet to receive one false alarm due to an animal or a vehicle driving by (this was a problem for my old camera).
- No issues answering the doorbell using my phone and I really like that if I don't answer it will take a message.
- Viewing angles are good, allowing me to see packages left on my front door mat and most of my front walk using the include angled wedge (my doorbell wiring is on a wall at angle to my door).
- Works perfectly with my existing doorbell transformer, mechanical chime and wiring.
- I easily connected it to SmartThings and have lighting automations that run when motion is detected.
Things to Consider
- It doesn't really look like a doorbell and the button to ring the bell is smooth with no label. The button does illuminate, but it is too dim to see in bright daylight against the shiny black plastic on the front. I have had several people look at it and knock on the door instead. This is not a deal breaker for me (you still get a motion alert) and most people will figure it out (especially as video door bells become more common).
- Camera clarity is good, and the night vision works well, but there is some distortion due to the wide-angle lens and when zoomed in it gets a bit fuzzy.
- Installing using the angled mounting wedge and the included screws is tricky. The doorbell will not click in to the bracket if the screw head sticks out at all. This is a challenge when mounting it to a brick wall, because the anchors are not meant to be at an angle to the wall. I used a piece of PVC trim as a spacer/adapter to my existing holes to avoid having to make more holes in my wall and a shorter screw with a slightly smaller head to avoid issues with the angle mount. This is probably a lot less of a concern if you don't try to use the angle mount or can drill your holes at an angle to match.
- The install instructions included in the box are not complete and the expectation is that you will use the app to guide you through the install. The correct installation of the power kit in the chime box is only shown in the app - so make sure you download the app and review the install before you get started.
- You want to make sure you have a good WIFI signal. I have a mesh network and had no issues, but I have had issues with wireless cameras in the past due to a weak signal.

It's a great product. Im not going to lie, it's my first doorbell camera, but sometimes it lags to notify me when someone is at the door.
I do enjoy the fact that I can set specific boundaries, the areas I want covered if someone or something is there. It won't notify me for the areas I do not want.
It calls my phone or any device I have connected like a phone call, which I find easy.
You can also set a certain time that records a video when someone enters the boundary you set. It will set that to your phone. It's nice to go back when needed to watch the recording. I've even used it for police reports!
Great find, I hope the outdoor camera works equally as well, I have no doubt!

Husband hasn't figured out how to record yet so for us, it's real time. If we ever needed to go back and watch something we'd be out of luck.
love that when someone rings you doorbell it calls your cell phone, number/s listed. When my husband answers the call, I get a notice saying his phone answered.
The delay to speak to someone seems to be hit or miss. We have the Arlo pro 2 cameras on both our homes and they delay as well.
Like that it's wired so we aren't changing batteries like in the Pro2 Cameras.

Google the reviews on night vision that looks like day vision. Go ahead, I’ll wait. It’s awesome, right? Plus the 180 degree field of view which is closer to 160 but who’s judging? It’s still awesome as well. Lastly, the perfect, crisp, clean & undistorted sound quality and 4K video is the bee’s knees. Sweet! Add in up to a 256GB micro SD card in the Arlo base hub for $50-60 and you’re set to record that 4K video without a subscription. Even with the subscription It’s what $15 a month? Please, take my money! Still cheaper than ADT... I could go on, but i probably lost most of you. Google it, watch the reviews & thank me later!

It has a nice video for setting up, however the screws in the doorbell itself were very hard to remove, and connecting the angled wall plate took me a while. The position on my door jam made the camera not to capture the entire camera field of vision, which is annoying but not Arlo’s fault. The sensitivity of the motion sensor needs to be fine tuned otherwise it notifies me for every car passing in the street. The door bell chime has now a very lame sound if at all. Might be the wiring done wrongly. Overall it’s a good camera and the recording length and quality is one of the best. The installation could be improved to be easier by homeowners

Nice doorbell. Setup is really easy. Download the Arlo app and there are step by step directions on mounting, wiring and connectivity. I did add a 3rd party mounting plate as I wanted to cover holes for a cleaner installation and I also needed a larger angle. We already have 3 of the Arlo Pro 3 cameras and the hub so it was even easier. Video quality is really good. I set up and switched package detection to the doorbell camera and it correctly identified a package being delivered. I strongly suggest taking time to set up a schedule and use geofencing. Both work well and it gives you some privacy when at home rather than having cameras running 24/7 but also guarantees they will run at night or when not at home without having to remember to change anything. I will be adding the spotlight camera also in the spring. Highly recommended.

I have several Arlo cameras and a base station and thought the Arlo doorbell would be a nice addition to our home security. I purchased the doorbell without considering other brands that would have required yet another online account and app on my phone.
In the Box:
• Doorbell
• Flat mounting plate
• Angled mounting plate
• Power kit
• Release pin
• Wall screws and anchors
• Wire extensions, wire nuts, and extra screws
Setup:
The Arlo App takes you step-by-step through the setup process. The “power kit” is installed first. It activates your current doorbell chime once the Arlo doorbell is installed. Replacing my old doorbell was relatively straightforward. My doorbell wires were almost too short, but I managed to connect the Arlo doorbell without the wire extensions provided in the box.
Despite having a compatible Arlo base unit, the new doorbell could not find it during setup and I wound up connecting to my home WiFi. The instructions in the App did not mention pressing the button on the base unit prior to (or during) installation. This is likely the cause of my inability to connect to the base station. Once connected via WiFi, online instructions for switching to a base station are cumbersome and require that the doorbell be removed and reset. I opted to keep the WiFi connection as it left an open slot on my base stations for another Arlo device.
Function:
I and my wife were not prepared for the barrage of notifications we were about to receive!
Mowing the lawn, watering the plants, wind blowing the potted plants on the front porch, the garbage truck and other large vehicles driving down the street…
My wife got so annoyed by the constant pings that I had to disable notifications on her phone. She still gets the video clips, but doesn’t have to listen to each notification.
I still get notifications and am getting used to the 50 to 100 pings on my phone (and watch) every day. After all, what’s the point of having a motion sensing doorbell if you don’t know when it is activated.
There is no option to turn the camera off when working outside the house near the front door. I would appreciate a software update to the Arlo App to make this happen.
The power kit for the indoor chime is relatively anemic. The chime makes some noise, but not nearly as loud as before. I hear the notifications and see the videos on my phone, but cannot hear the doorbell chime as I used to.
Pressing the door bell calls my phone. There are notable delays on both ends of the conversation that make it difficult to communicate in real time. Ignoring the call allows the person at the door to leave a message.
The quality of the recorded video and audio is amazing.
Overall:
Security systems are much like camera equipment. Once you have made an initial investment in the brand, it’s hard to justify moving to another. If you already have security devices from another vendor, this doorbell is not worth switching for. If you don’t presently have any security devices, you should consider all available the systems (including doorbells) and make an informed decision. If you already have Arlo security devices, this doorbell is a nice addition. Just be prepared for the fact that the doorbell camera cannot be turned off and you will likely receive more notifications than you expect.
