I have an Arlo ecosystem, so adding these when they were on sale was a no-brainer. For the price of $99 for a pack of two, with 3 batteries, (I could only normally buy two replacement batteries for that price) made this an easy choice. The lights are a bit larger than the Arlo cameras themselves, but mount cohesively next to them. They have an array of white LED lights, with varying intensity settings and then 4 colored LEDs in the center. I've set then up to cover the back yard and also the side of my house, motion triggered and linked to my camera, so if they go off, the camera will trigger and record anything that's going on. They run off of their own hub, which is the only let down I can see with these, as I already have an Arlo hub connected to my router, so now I have to have a light hub plugged into an outlet (doesn't need to be connected to your router). That is a downside, but... the upside to the separate hub is that the connection between the lights and the hub is incredibly robust! Really happy with that, so it's at least a decent trade-off! They are brighter than I was expecting to see, after reading some reviews, so that was a nice surprise. I have them on a 30 second timer from the moment of sensing to the moment of turning off again and that is more than adequate for my needs. I get notifications on my phone when they sense motion, which is reassuring and they are working flawlessly in that respect. I've had them installed for about a month so far, and the battery life is still at 92%, which is fantastic. I don't have the light shining all the time, but I do get about 10-12 notifications during the day from birds and cats moving around the property. So very pleased with the battery life so far. You can manually control the lights as well, turn them on, change the beam (spotlight or floodlight) and also change the color of the lights too, however the colors are not as intense as the white light that they put out in floodlight or spotlight mode. So far, very impressed with the lights, better than I expected, and at $99, such a good deal, I couldn't pass them up.

nice addition to the Netgear ecosystem

i was very excited to hear about this security light coming out by Netgear. i have been waiting since 2017 when they announced the upcoming release. i have recently moved into a new house that lacked lighting in the backyard and have been looking for something wireless and Netgear answered my calling. i frequent my backyard multiple times a day to take my dog out to do her business. this helps illuminate the grass area so her and i could both see, especially when i pick up her doo doo. the set up was very simple and user friendly. just follow the step by step in app to add devices. i played around with it before installation. the motion sensor will only trigger in dark settings when indoors or at nighttime but you are able to manually turn it on thru the Arlo app or via Amazon Alexa voice. i have also connected the security light to turn on when my Arlo pro camera is triggered in the backyard. nice to have the light on before i get to the very back of my house. i placed the 2nd security light indoors in my living room and i use it as a cool disco light where it flashes and rotates multiple colors in which you could select thru the Arlo app.. it's great when used in conjunction with the rest of my Philips Hue's and Nanoleaf lights to create a nice ambience. i call it my "party lights." :) installation was just 3 screws into my walls, felt sturdy enough to not use the anchors. no connection issues so far. works like a charm. must have for any smart home addict. best of all, i'm so lucky to have been selected for the opportunity to review this new item for free!

First Look Review - New Release

I’m an astro/aero engineer, so I’m attempting write an informative review from my perspective. Hope it helps you. SETUP: Very easy to set up. Three screws to secure the mounts to where you want it. Install and use the Arlo app to setup the two security lights. The app requires you to scan the QR code on the bridge and each light to setup. My smartphone is a little older and had a difficult time scanning it. Plug the bridge into the power socket and follow the app instructions. Lastly install the battery, screw the lights to the mounts and you’re done. HARDWARE: The light mounts are good quality. They’re made of mostly metal and the design is the same as the other common mounts. The ones that I bought for my Arlo security cameras are very similar except for the metal ball for the magnetic attach feature. The mounts that came in the box are screw on to the light type. This is good, makes it harder to steal it but also harder to remove to charge the battery. The security light itself is good but is only rated at 400 lumens. Its not super bright but it will light an area, so you can see what’s in front of you. The battery lasts a long time even if you have it set to full power. There is a trade-off between battery life and light brightness. It is designed for battery life. If you have the Arlo security cameras, the you can sync with the lights, so the image quality is better. This is probably the case with all security cameras in low light. They complement each other well. I mounted one of the lights in front of my parent’s house. Now they don’t have to fumble to their front door in case they forget to turn on the porch lights or come home later than planned. SOFTWARE: The lights can be controlled using your smartphone, table, or computer using the Arlo app. It is the same app that also controls your other Arlo devices like the security camera system. It will tell you your battery level, time the lights remain on after triggered by motion, and many other things. I set the lights to turn on via the motion sensor only from dusk to dawn and to also start recording on the security cameras. I set the motion sensor to the maximum range which is about 25 ft. It’s not too sensitive that it turns on with insects, etc. but it could a little more sensitive. Overall, the app is very easy to use, it didn’t take long to go through all its features. CONCLUSION: These security lights are a good alternative to the common wired-in security lights, especially if you don’t want to run new wiring. There’s also the added benefit of being able to control them with your smartphone and change the settings on the fly. I have several Netgear products and when I contact their support center, they have always treated me well and resolved my issue. I received this item for free as part of the Netgear First Look program. They send me new to market products for an un-biased review.

Really cool sensors plus effortless setup

    Posted
    Richard

The setup of the lights was incredibly easy, requiring only that you use the Arlo app on a mobile device to scan a QR code in the battery compartment of the light. The customizable LED light color is a great feature and we've used them to provide cool lighting effects at parties. Since I have the Arlo security cameras as well, I can use these motion detectors to trigger the cameras to start recording before the camera senses anything for more complete coverage. They are controllable via the Arlo app and can be set to be active during the same, overlapping, or separate periods as the cameras. Additionally, there is a feature that allows the sensor to trigger a motion alert without turning the light on which makes it easier to position them without worrying about it shining through your neighbors windows. We've chosen to leave the motion alert and the light turn on coupled so that it comes on whenever motion is detected within the scheduled time period. The fact that they are rechargeable is a great feature, however I would prefer the kit came with the wall charger so the batteries could be charged outside of the sensor. Though this kit comes with a wall charger and an extra rechargeable battery (3 total), the batteries can only be charged in the sensor which means it would need to be taken down to charge it. The wall charger docking station is available for purchase separately (~$14.99 I think) but feel like the cord for connecting the battery directly to the charger should've been included to allow for quick swap out. While they do work with Amazon Echos/Alexa via the Alexa Arlo skill, the operation via Alexa is pretty buggy but I expect this to be fixed through updates to the Alexa skill. I personally would like a customize-able arm/disarm code word so I could say "Alexa, Arm Arlo Sensors [code word]" on my way out and visa versa once I get home. Overall, these sensors are great and come with a ton of very customizeable options and features, however it seems they are a bit overpriced considering the non-smart option only costs about $15 per motion sensor light. They are a great addition to existing Arlo systems and I would recommend them. I received this sensor kit as part of a testing and review program through the NETGEAR First Look Review Program.

Great upgrade to cheap wireless lights

    Posted
    cutetechstuff

I have an existing arlo pro camera setup to monitor my side yard. However, I live on a street without streetlights, so it gets really dark at night, making it often hard to see. The solar lights in the ground do very little to help with this, which is what I had been using. I've been slowly adding smart devices to the house over the years. I really like being able to sit on the couch and control things with my phone. I already do these with indoor things like lighting and the thermostat. Adding the ability to control lighting outside really increases the value of the cameras I have out there. My wife no longer worries about leaving on vacation because we can always "check on the house" while we are away, even in the dark. With the camera, we get videos alerts with actual lighting now in the dark. The biggest surprise to me was being able to use the lights for more than just security. I can also set mood lighting by playing with colors -- my toddler loves it. On a practical level, setting the lighting to soft pinks and reds doesn't run my night vision while still providing some much needed lighting to see where we're going at night. If you have those cheap solar lights to lightup your pathway, this is a perfect upgrade to actually get what you want, with the same wireless ease, and much improved usability. I do wish the lights themselves were brighter. However, the value here is pretty good, given a nice security light will cost at least $250, and doesn't integrate at all (and will likely be wired). It may be brighter, but won't be controllable with an app, nor easy to set a schedule, etc. So for the money, this is a great deal. In conclusion, assuming you already have an arlo camera setup, adding lights are a no brainer enhancement. I'm basing my rating on the value added to the setup. If you were looking to buy into Arlo, I still think they are competitive (especially on sale) and definitely still recommend over cheaper solutions. They work as expected and like everything else with arlo, are really easy to setup. I love the wireless aspect of the Arlo system, and almost expect it now -- I'm not running wires into my side yard for this. I received this product for free, in exchange for my unbiased review.

    Easy setup, good integration

I added the Arlo Security Lights to an existing Arlo setup, consisting of 3 basic Arlo wireless cameras and an Arlo Q. I found the setup to be very, very simple. The step by step directions on the app really makes setup idiot-proof. I already had the app on my phone and hit "Add Devices" and followed the instructions on the screen. I even mistyped my wifi password and was able to restart the setup process to completion with no problems. You can either have the security light operate independently or add "cross-triggering" mode so when one device is triggered, it activates another. I set it so that when the security light senses motion in my backyard, it turns on and tells my Arlo camera to start recording. I was impressed at how seamless it was to integrate the light into the Arlo system. Overall, I think the lights would be a good value. Although a simple LED motion sensing light would be less expensive, the notification and the control of the light working together with the Arlo system would justify the expense. Pros: - The setup process was a snap - Really bright light, I turned mine down to 50% to save batteries - Motion sensitivity is adjustable and worked very well out of the box Cons: - Personally, I think offering so many choices of light color is not necessary as white is the brightest and probably all that is needed. - The button to manually turn on the lights is shaped like a rectangle and it was not immediately obvious to me that this was the on/off switch because the other buttons on the app and website are shaped differently. Not a big deal but a small oddity to me. I received this light as part of the Netgear First Look Review Program.

    Arlo Lights for Dummies

    Posted
    TheLowdown

One of my favorite features is this system is totally rechargeable. (I’m weary of anything battery-powered—batteries don’t last long and it gets expensive over time.) Initial setup was pretty straightforward, although a printed quickstart guide would’ve been nice. The Arlo app on my iPhone had issues like not reading the QR code, but it could’ve just been an issue with my phone. BASE STATION • Arlo recommends plugging in the "Bridge" at counter height but it works just as well in an outlet near the floor. • Small, unassuming profile—I love how it doesn’t detract from our home decor. LIGHTS • Easily recharged by connecting the provided USB cable from the light into a wall outlet. • Surprisingly withstands harsh weather like rain and direct sun/heat. • Super bright; can illuminate a large area of an indoor room or outdoor patio. • Can be scheduled for whenever I’m away from home, through the Arlo app. • Alerts me when motion is detected, through text/email. “I’M A DUMMY” NOTES I’m not the most tech savvy so if you’re like me, you might think your Arlo Lights don’t work. We followed instructions for the Motion Detection Test and Range Finder Test to find the best sensitivity and location. The lights responded well to both tests. But outside of test modes, the lights simply would not turn on. Here’s what we finally figured out: • The lights are in automatic power-saving mode during the day! They’re lights (duh) so repeatedly walking past them or wildly waving your hands won’t do a thing during the day. They’re meant to turn on when it’s dark. Problem solved. • Another issue was the custom-colored lights and flashing on/off at different speeds. Apparently this is only available for “manual mode” (tapping the ON switch through the Arlo app). So my idea of chasing away evil intruders with a flashing, police-like red light didn’t pan out. But for parties, those same features are great alternatives to strobes and disco balls. Bottom Line The system is solid and very well-made, providing functionality, security and peace of mind in a non-obtrusive way. Arlo thought of everything, even theft-deterring window decals. Paired with their cameras, it's like a blanket of protection without having to pay for a monthly security system. I received this product as part of the NETGEAR First Look Review Program.

Great Smart Lights for Increased Security!

Arlo Smart Security Lights made my home feel more secure by providing light which be easily controlled through an easy and customizable android app that works flawlessly on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8. These lights can be placed virtually anywhere inside or outside within 100 feet from their bridge. Set up is very easy and straightforward. Just scan the QR code on each light and make sure you are connected to the same wifi network as their bridge and you know the password of the network. An easy way to know if the connection is strong is to turn on the range detection setting with green light flashing showing strong connection and red poor. Performance of the lights has been great so far with great battery life if not used excessively. The light is very bright and I can have the lights do what I want them through the many features in the app. Some of these features include: setting up triggering rules, syncing them with Arlo cameras, on/off switch, motion detection (which works really well), beam adjustment to flood (wide angle) or spot (more narrow angle), change colors, flashing, and others. Also, you can flip a switch in the app for 5 more minutes of extra time. Other great features: the mounts are very nice and can be easily mounted anywhere, batteries are rechargeable and the same type as for the Arlo Pro and Pro2 cameras, weather resistant, scheduling for when you are at home or away, push notification, email alerts, integration with other home devices, and compatible with Amazon Alexa. Just say "Alexa turn on my security lights..." and voila your lights are on. NetGear provides great customer service and the Arlo website provides all the info, you need to install and use cameras and smart lights. Thank you Arlo for making my home security easy, fun, and trustworthy! I will strongly recommend Arlo Smart Security Light for anybody who needs wireless lights in different places inside/outside home. Paul Botica for the NetGear Review Program

Not worth money. Received three defective products

I wanted these to work yet after months of exchanges, contacting support, attempting to activate etc I am returning. The first set had a defective light...returned. The second set come with a bridge that would not work. Called Netgear and another sent. The replacement worked yet only one light worked yet again. Called Netgear and explained that light would not even illuminate or pair and they insisted on sending another bridge. This bride (fourth) worked but the light again did not. The resulted in another call (again long wait times and multiple transfers to different departments as no one seemed very familiar with the lights). After about an hour on the phone it was decided that they would send a replacement light. This replacement light did illuminate yet would not pair (the original light did from the first store return, but not replacement). I spent hours resetting the bridge, my router, trying different locations in the house, removing and reinstalling bridge, etc, etc. and the replacement light will not pair. I have had the system for months and it has not even been useful. I have spend hours on the phone and attempting to install. Yes one light works but I have not enjoyed the benefits of what I paid for..that is a fully functioning product. I am returning. As a side note I do like my cameras and they are functioning properly. I would NOT recommend the lights until the bugs are worked out and customer support is more familiar and able to assist

Easy to set up, fully featured smart lights

    txag06

As an existing Arlo user, I cannot recommend these enough. I have the Q and a pair of Pro 2s, and these are a welcome addition. Set up is a breeze through the Arlo app, and it only took 5 minutes to get both lights online. Using the QR code inside the light, the app quickly adds the lights into your device lineup. I had been in the market for new motion detector lights in my back yard, because my old hard-wired ones would trigger randomly, or if the wind blew. The motion detecting on these is accurate, and I have not had a single instance of these randomly turning on in the 3 weeks I’ve been using them. Battery life is strong, and depleted at about 10% a week out here in the AZ sun. Switching batteries to charge the units takes about 10 seconds each. The lights themselves are really spectacular. There are 2 modes- flood and spot, which dictate how wide the beam is. You will be very surprised by the brightness of these lights, and I do not recommend looking directly in them. You have infinite color options for the lights, whether you want to set ambiance outside or have it flash a color as a warning to an intruder. The coolest features come through the Arlo app and system. You can set times for the lights to turn on and off, or have them “armed” at certain times, if you don’t want them triggering during the day. You can also have them work seamlessly with your Arlo cameras to begin recording if motion is detected. All in all, I couldn’t be happier with these. If they came with solar panels, that would be a huge plus, but the batteries have a long life. I was happy to receive this product as part of NETGEAR’s First Look Review Program.

I added this wireless lights to my Arlo security cameras and they work great , no wire and battery last long as long as you have the right settings on the app. This package comes with an extra battery and a bridge, that’s great for the price. The 400 lumens makes my back yard bright enough at night. The motion detection is adjustable up to 23 feet, the range from the router to the bridge is over 90 feet but make sure you install it at least closer to both lights to avoid any disconnection from your WiFi; the range from the bridge to the light is also over 90 feet. One of my favorite features is when the light detects motion, your Arlo cameras can start recording and you’ll get a notification to your phone, also works great with Alexa . Great addition to my security system.

The strength is in the integration

One thing that I don't see a lot of people talking about is the IFTTT integration for these lights. Alone, these are just lights, with the Arlo base station, they are part of the Arlo ecosystem. With IFTTT I can push events to my SmartThings, to my lights, with SmartThings and IFTTT the possibilities become almost endless. I live out in rural america. My wife is from the big city. Getting these lights has given her some piece of mind, and I've worked to do thing such as turn on some of my inside Philips bulbs, as well as my front door lights when these lights sense motion. I've also done some integration between the lights and the cameras. The product, is pretty solid, it doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart in your hands. The app walks you thru everything you need to know. The only part that throws me for a loop is the battery bent for the product. It's not bad, I'm just used to everything being plugged in. Overall, I'd have to say the product does what it says it does. Are there some misfires? Yes, especially when you live in the little house in the prairie. Is it something that is insurmountable? No. As an aside, I was provided this unit in return for my un biased opinion by the Netgear First Look program. All thoughts are my own.

    LET THERE BE LIGHT!

I would like to preface this review by indicating that I received this product as part of their friends and family program but they have not reviewed or edited my thoughts in any way. I have long been an Arlo fan and have several throughout my home. I have both the wireless and wired models blanketing my home and this was the missing piece of the puzzle. Just like any of their other products, it acts a motion alert that will ping your phone. Through their intuitive interface, you are able to schedule how and why, and how long the lights will turn on. Want to do it by motion? Done. Want to do it by audio? No problem. Want to just have it on at certain times? Easy! I installed one in the front of my house and one in the back. Hopefully if anyone is thinking about doing anything illegal on my property now, they will get the feedback of the light to know that they are being watched! I highly recommend this product to anyone who is looking to secure their home!

Was able to score this on a Deal of the Day for $100 and couldn't be happier. Placed this on the sides of my home where there was no lighting and didn't want to run any wires. Setup wasn't too bad but did have a bit of a challenge with the hub and connecting it to the wifi. Once that was done, getting the lights working was a breeze... assuming you had a ladder and the "other" tools to install it where you want it. Batteries have lasted 3 months so far from 100% and have yet to recharge them. Did notice a problem with the sensitivity but unsure if that is due to having them too low. Imagine a two story house and installed them right about where the second floor would be. Totally recommend them even if you do not have ARLO cameras but need to add lighting in areas of your yard / home.

The motion sensor lights have worked well for our backyard. We have the Arlo Pro 2 cameras and it helps improve the video quality at night. We also just use it as a regular light for taking the dog out and has been excellent for that. The one thing I haven't been able to figure out yet is how to sync with the cameras so that it turns on the camera when the light sensor is activated. Also, the light isn't super bright so if you're looking for more of a flood light this might not be the right product. It does provide enough light for the uses I described though. And the battery life has been excellent so far. They have been installed for several weeks and still up near 100%.

Full disclosure, I bought this on sale significantly discounted. It looked like a really useful addition to the Arlo cameras. Once set up, the lights work well, and let me record in color at night (once the light goes on). The big problem is that the lights don't talk directly with the Arlo WiFi controller; they use a separate 'hub' (zigbee, bluetooth, proprietary? it's not specified). The hub is supposed to be able to connect to several lights, but it's range is limited and getting the lights to pair with the hub required multiple attempts. Finally got it to work by only powering one light at a time until they all paired. Even then the reporting is spotty. Be prepared to buy a hub for each light you deploy! Until they get it working more seamlessly, I would look at other options.

We have a four camera arlo setup that I have been very happy with. These recently went on sale and I thought it might be nice to get some additional lighting coverage and I liked that it came with an extra battery that could be used interchangeably with the rest of the Arlo Pro 2 products. What was a pleasant surprise was that these are more than just lights, I didn't realize that they actually also throw motion alerts. So with a few of these we can fill in some of the small "blind spots" and get not just some lighting in the yard but also alerts/tracking if we do get an unwanted "guest". As as just a flood light, yes it's kind of spendy, but as an expansion to your Arlo system and cloud alerts? You get a lot more functionality than a simple flood light.

Arlo used to be perfect, since some time ago I have been having issues with the cams, one of them stop detecting movement, it does but no continuously, the new software/update made the cam drains the battery in seconds. Yesterday I tried to install the security light and bridge. It took me some time to have the bridge working, but the light not at all. I have tried many times but I have never gotten it installed, it is now in app list of devices but it does no respond to commands or directions, it is like it never gets installed completely. Please fix all these issues because the competitors are getting better and offering interesting options and all the name in quality and service you have built can be lost.

My wife and I just purchased and moved into a new home and security was the first thing we looked at. Netgear was nice enough to send us a couple of these lights as part of their NETGEAR First Look Review Program and they were both incredibly easy to set up as well as very bright and effective. The installation was as simple as three screws, and since they are battery powered (with rechargeable batteries) there was no need to run wire and find the nearest outlet to my desired location. I just picked a place the light up my driveway as well as my backyard and mounted them. I love that I have been able to control them by my phone as well as with my amazon alexa. I already intend on adding a couple of more lights around the exterior of our house. These are a great first step in our new homes smart security.

I returned my item. I have a middle size back yard so I placed the flood light on the side where I didn't have an Arlo camera. The other side of my yard I had a camera and a normal back pouch light. Since I had the regular pouch light and the Arlo flood light on the other side, the flood light would not work properly. Since the flood light was facing the pouch light, the flood light would come on. I even moved the flood light over a lil, and it still would not come on. If seem as if the flood light only works it your back yard is completely light free. I guess I could have just not use the regular pouch light and got another Arlo flood light, but at that time the lights just came out and it was expensive. Maybe Arlo fixed the problem by now.
