A great upgrade if you are in the Arlo security

I was thinking of including a new security camera in my house and because I own a previous Arlo model, I thought that the functionalities of the 5s 2k model could be a great option. The main reason was that I was not very interested in adding different manufacturers and new apps to my phone but adding just a device. Still has an image quality ten times better. Unboxing the camera is a three-minute process of taking out all the plastic that protects the camera from scratches and installing the battery inside the camera. Good detail that the camera is packaged separately which will extend the battery life during storage time. The battery comes at 75% charge and up to now has been enough for 2 weeks of functioning in an area with a lot of movement detection. Checking the specs it seems that I will have more than a month of power guaranteed. Very easy to install and activate. Just download the Arlo app and your camera will set up by itself in a short period including the app on your phone and the cam. After the first connection, the update of software however could take some time. This is a wireless camera so, I love that can go anywhere and the installation is cable-free. It can be installed anywhere there is access to your wireless network. From a power perspective, once it runs out of battery, however, you will need to connect your cam to the charger (included) in the package. The charging cable comes with the Arlo charging pins on one side and the USB on the other side. The power outlet is not there. The major item that should be considered before purchasing this technology is that this camera does not include a memory space. All the security recording goes to the cloud and for accessing it you need to buy a subscription. Is good that if you already have the subscription, you would have to add the new device. The subscription adds a new layer of security features like the Arlo Secure emergency response. If you decide that the security plans are a big commitment for you, the camera will still serve you by detecting movement in the area and sending you notifications with an image that generated the detection. Enough to activate the direct view but not enough if you are trying to check a past alarm. If you are not sure about the commitment and the service, Arlo is including a 30-day trial period for their devices. I love the camera and serves my purposes but when you buy arlo camera you need to consider that the security plan is a must.

    Connects without a base station

Arlo, my favorite home camera system. LOVE THESE Cameras but there are still features I wish they would improve. For instance. This camera is great that you can connect it to your home wifi without needing to be connected to a Arlo Base Station. BUT……… it has to be a 2.4 Ghz network. Seriously? Yes. Arlo, please make these work on 5Ghz. I had to re do one of my home networks to broadcast on 2 Ghz just so I could get it working. I spent maybe 30 min trying to get this connected the first time because I didn’t have a 2.4 Ghz network set up at home. Once I re configured my home network I was able to connect the camera to the Arlo app and was up and running. I have a 4K Ultra already connected to a base station for the font of the house. I added this 2K camera to the other side of the house and I can barely tell the difference in the video quality. These cameras are awesome. This one has a small spot light that lights when you want it to. This is nice for nighttime viewing or lighting a pathway when motion is sensed. Another area I wish Arlo would improve is make these wireless cameras work with the Apple HomeKit. ALL my other Arlos connect to the base station and through the base station I can connect them to my HomeKit and watch the cameras on my TV *through my AppleTV). But this stand alone camera is not compatible (at least not that I can find) with homekit since it doesn't’ go through the base station. So I really like that it doesn't have to be connected to a base station, this allows me to get it in different places in the home that only have wifi signal but might be further away from the base station. But I can’t view it on my TV through HomeKit like I can all my other arlo cameras. So you need to use the Arlo app on you mobile device to view the feed. I understand the two factor authentication but it is a bit annoying to have to use it so fifteen when logging in. Or when I log in a different device (say my iPad), I get logged out of my phone. Arlo, come on, please let us be on multiple devices especially if it wont work with Home Kit. Love the camera, and all the features. There are just a few ways I wish Arlo would make these even better.

    Skeptical about the monthly service.

Heavy and solidly constructed for its small size, its been two days now and the battery is at 46%. Clear daytime picture with excellent zoom capabilities. Worthless in most nighttime situations because although it has pretty good night vision we can't figure out how to turn it off and if there is any type of light (i.e. a distant street light, home lamp post, porch light, etc. etc.) it blinds the picture and you can't make anything out. Although the instructions were straight forward it was very difficult to set up, mainly because it took hours of trying to get the camera to properly SEE the bar graph on my phone on their website as required. Most objectionably is that three quarters of its advanced features are only available if you subscribe to their monthly service for between five dollars a month and twenty dollars a month (the more expensive your monthly subscription the more features you get). Also it doesn't see through window screening very well, but then again only the better cameras are able to do that. And because of were the mount attaches, it cannot be stood up sturdily, thus it needs to be mounted by screwing in the mounts to a wall etc. etc. and then screwing in the camera to the mount, which is not ideal for a piece of equipment that has to be disconnected often and recharged. Hence it is a very Plain Jane camera for the expensive price with what you get without paying the extra monthly fee.

Not bad. The motion trigger is not as instantaneous as I was hoping for, but it works ok. I also wish the viewing area was a little broader, but overall I'm happy to be able to monitor our apartment parking area as my car was damaged by an unknown culprit before purchasing a camera to keep an eye on where I park my car.

The Arlo Pro 5S 2K solo cam is an excellent choice for your security needs. I already had an older Arlo system setup, so adding this camera to the existing eco system was fairly easy. If you're just starting out, you would need to download the Arlo app and create an account. After that, it's very straight forward. September of 2022, I had a two sport quads stolen out of my garage, so I've been looking for a solution for monitoring my garage which is detached from my house. The Arlo 5S Pro has excellent wireless range. I have this in my garage and it's about 60 feet from my WIFI router, and a brick wall is in between that. The camera has a excellent video quality. The light is also fairly bright. Not floodlight bright, but it will definitely illuminate the area enough to be able to see. Another benefit of the light is that it will help the camera switch out of night mode and go back into standard mode to help pick up more details of what may be happening, like possibly telling what color clothes the perpetrator is wearing. You can also select what zones in the viewing area are to be detecting. For example, you can have it so it will ignore a tree that constantly blows in the wind. It also has has some sort of AI. It will notify you if it detects an animal or person. There's not much to dislike about this camera, but I did find a few things I wish ware different. First, this camera uses a proprietary charging cord, which is included, but if you lose it, you'll have to buy a new one before you can recharge your camera. Also, all you get is the cord, no charging block. Another issue I have is that setting up geofencing in the app was not as simple as it was before. I had to update my app in order to add this camera. after the update, everything changed. I had to re-learn the app in order to use it. There is definitely a learning curve. Once you figure it out, it gets easier, but at first, it can be frustrating. I gave up on it at first because I didn't understand how to set up geofencing. It's not an obvious choice. Before you could just select the geofencing and setup your zone. Now you have to go into the app and it's barried in the "automation" area of the app. Even after you figure out where it's at, you still have to un-select a bunch of options to get it to work like the previous version of the app. For example, each mode has the other modes selected in the geofencing option. I had to go into each mode and de-select other other modes except the mode I was in to get it to work right. Seems like they over complicated it, or maybe it's just me. Once I figured everything out, I was happy with the overall performance of the camera. Likes: 1.) Great video and sound quality 2.) Light works surprisingly well for the size 3.) Wireless Dislikes: 1.) New app seems to complicate things 2.) Has to be hard mounted. My other Arlo camera's used a magnetic ball mount which I find much superior 3.) Proprietary charging cord, and the charge block is not included

I have been using Arlo cameras since 2017. All my cameras now are the Pro 3, 4, and now 5. My needs are pretty simple. I have around 8-9 cameras in various locations inside and outside my home. Certain cameras record when motion is detected any time, and certain cameras record when motion is detected only at night, and certain cameras are simply there to be viewed when away from home to check up on the house or my dog. For me, the arlo system meets these needs perfectly. I wanted something wireless with reasonable battery life that's also reliable. The cameras are reliable through a wide range of weather - rain, snow, high heat, extreme cold. Once it cools below zero they sometimes say it is too cold, but we're talking below 0 F; batteries don't function well at those temperatures. Generally on the most active cameras the battery lasts around 1 month, while the cameras that don't get used much the battery lasts 4-6 months. To me, this is great. Speaking of batteries, the 5 uses the same batteries as the other cameras I have. The new Low Power mode of the pro 5 should extend that battery life if its a frequently used camera. The newer cameras, including this Pro 5, do not need a base station and can connect directly to Wifi which is nice for new users. I do have a base station from my other cameras. It's centrally located in the house and has great range with the cameras. Usually the cameras connect with no trouble. I have had occasional issues with initially pairing a camera, but this pro 5 immediately paired when following the App instructions. That said, I have never had a camera in 6 years become unpaired from the base station. If the battery is dead and replaced, they always connect right away. The reliability is great. The Pro 5 has improved video quality over previous cameras, a low power mode where it takes pictures instead of video (great feature if needing battery savings), as well as dual band wifi which allows the camera to connect via the 5ghz band to a wifi network. If the camera is close enough to the router, this will give a more reliable and faster signal, but farther from the router the camera can fall back on the standard 2.4ghz which still works well. Since setting up my Pro 5, I have had no problems and the battery life is doing great as well. For a new user, the Pro 5 will make a great purchase, and for an existing system owner, it'll fit right in.

The Arlo Pro 5 is everything you love about the Pro 4 plus better battery life, better low light imaging, and dual band WiFi. The new sensor provides both better daytime video and color night vision using the spotlight. Although the resolution is the same as the Pro3 and Pro4 cameras, the image quality seems better. My installation is a mix of Arlo security lights, Pro3, and Pro4 cameras, along with a old Pro2, all connected to an Arlo Smart Hub. The Pro2 was finally being retired in favor of the new Pro5. Setup was easy, delete the old camera, add a Pro 5 camera, and decide how to connect it. Due to the location, I opted to add the Pro5 directly to my wifi network rather than the Arlo hub. Video quality is excellent, with good color saturation. The full duplex audio is also clearer and the latency(lag) seems better, although that might be due to the direct connection. In addition to the better battery life, there is a new power saver mode that will take a series of snapshots rather than full video. The downside of the Arlo system is that you really have to have a monthly plan with Arlo to get full utility. The basic plan adds 30 day video storage in the cloud, various object and motion detections, audio detection, auto tracking and zoom, activity zones, notifications and some other capabilities. While I find the cost quite reasonable, it does need to be figured into the overall cost. Overall, the Arlo Pro5 camera really is the gold standard for wire free security cameras. Arlo does provide regular updates to the app and seems to be actively expanding their capabilities. As a starter or an addition to an existing system, the Arlo Pro5 is well worth your consideration.

Great camera except for NO HOMEKIT

This is hard review to post. My very first smart camera system was two Arlo cams and a hub probably over 10 years ago, and they are still going strong even though Arlo no longer supports them. I have always thought Arlo was top of the line for smart security cameras, until this one. I actually decided to get this one in case one of the originals does stop working. Plus, I had a front area of my home that I had wanted more coverage of for a while. Let me just get right to the point of why such a quality camera only gets a 3 star rating. I was more than shocked when this arrived to find out it doesn’t support Apple HomeKit. Every Arlo camera I have has native HomeKit built in (through the hub). This one not only doesn’t have native HomeKit, but because it directly connects to WiFi, there is no way to even connect it to my Arlo Hub. I thought I had to be missing something, because why would Arlo not add HomeKit to this camera. I researched it online and sure enough, no HomeKit. Strike 1. Next on the list, was the subscription requirement. I wasn’t surprised because I have a 2-3 year old Arlo Essentials camera that I have to maintain a subscription for. The subscriptions aren’t mandatory, but the cameras are pretty dumb without one. A subscription plan is required for activity zones, specific detection (package, person, animal, etc.), and more. With two cameras now requiring a subscription, I guess I will be taking out a multi-camera plan once the trial is over. Contrary to our 2nd home which has 11 cameras, none of which requires a subscription, this is a real bummer. Strike 2. Fortunately, that is all the strikes. The camera is otherwise Arlo brand ease and quality. Setup was less than 5 minutes, excluding installation, using the updated Arlo App. The app handled virtually everything, and it was on my WiFi network and connected in no time with little effort. I was a little surprised at how long the initial charge took. Several hours to get to 100%. Obviously, I can’t speak to the battery life yet, but based on the other Arlo cameras, don’t expect any surprises there. However, I don’t remember their periodic charges taking that long. The image quality is great, as is the 160° view. So far the activity zones appear to be much more accurate than other cameras I’ve used. The automatic (but programmable) spotlight is a great deterrent, plus love the color night vision as a result of the spotlight. If you just want a smart camera and don’t mind paying for a subscription, this is a great camera. However, if you want a camera that is an integral part of a HomeKit smart home, this isn’t your camera.

I've gone through a few security cameras, but this one is my new favorite and checks all the boxes for me. To be frank, the number one thing I like about the camera is that I don't really need to subscribe to a service to really use it, although there is a trial of the Arlo Secure service if you need it. But even just out of the box, I found the camera easy to mount, simple to use in the app, pretty versatile, and well thought out. The picture quality is really good, but you can make it lower to save bandwidth and power. There's an option to speak through it as well. I think the feature I like the most is the spotlight that can be set to turn when when the camera senses movement (the type and location of which you can specify). The field of vision is also quite good: from where it's mounted, I can see from the front door all the way to the garage. I currently have the camera set to record video whenever it detects motion, and these events are stored as video files that I can see directly on my phone. The software also has an Alexa Skill, so I can view the Camera's live feed on a separate device. The only problem I rant into was the initial setup. The camera requires a 2.4GHz wifi network to set up. Once the setup is complete, it can actually work on a 5GHz system. But it took FOREVER for me to finally get the phone app to connect to the camera - something to do with my mesh network. After some finagling, I was finally able to make the connection and complete the setup. Since then, I've had no problems with it.

This camera looks almost identical to my existing Arlo Ultra and Arlo Pro3 cameras. It charges the same and uses the same batteries. This one can be used standalone by connecting to Wi-Fi easily, I did check that it would use the 5ghz Wi-Fi signal, but if its far enough away, it used the 2.4ghz Wi-Fi signal, because it is stronger at longer distances. I tested that way first, but then I hooked it up like normal to my smart base station with the rest of my Arlo cameras. Hooked up to the base station, it still had a very good range and signal. This camera requires a subscription for using all its features, there are lots of options. I already have the unlimited option, so adding another camera made no change at all. This camera has better battery life than my other cameras. The battery also last longer using it connected to a smarthub basestation than using it on Wi-Fi. I tested it for a week in a busy location on a fresh battery and it used about 1/3 less charge of the battery than the camera I swapped it out for. So this camera should be used for your busiest location, to get the most out of it. The 2k picture was very clear and you can zoom it quite a bit. It has very good color night vision, and the spotlight is pretty bright at close distances, you can turn the spotlight off in the options if you don't want to use it and save the battery.

I really like the Arlo Pro 5S 2K indoor/outdoor camera. It was a bit confusing to setup because there were no instructions in the box. You have to go online to get any info on the security camera. Once I figured out how to open the camera, and then where the battery was inserted, the rest was pretty easy to setup and start using. I like the compact size. Especially the hard case that clearly will withstand “weather” when permanently attached outside of the home. I haven’t used enough to determine “how long” the fully-charged battery will last, but I suspect it will be sufficient. I like the fact that the camera is completely wireless … power and wifi connection. Having only the one camera device, I don’t know how effect the entire “system” would be nor how responsive the subscription monitoring system is. I have a complete security system by another vendor and earlier this year it/they were able to catch a Thief “in the act” of breaking in. The police were immediately dispatched, but the Thief was able to quickly exit the house/window before the Police’s arrival. However, the system was able to capture an excellent photo of the guy which helped the Police with their investigation. Again, I like the ARLO, but I would like to get a few more “components” to make a complete security “system” and then test out the results.

I have previously had Arlo cameras from a few years back, so I had already had some expectations as to the performance of the Pro 5S 2K camera. For testing, this camera was put outside in order to track the comings and goings of my particular street. When paired with a trial plan (I'm intending to go after the $5/month individual camera plan), Arlo's AI is in full swing. The camera quite successfully is able to tell the difference between a car and a person, which makes the snapshot of video clips a lot easier to manage through. And it is true -- you don't get the AI aspects of object recognition unless you're a part of one of Arlo's camera plans. Regarding the hardware itself, it certainly appears comfortably weather-resistant, and while you could install the device where it'll directly be impacted by rain, I've chosen to keep it under the relative protection of a roof. Also, if you don't enable color-based night vision, you'll save a lot more battery life, because color-based night vision invokes a pretty bright light (visible in the marketing materials for the camera), which will drain the battery rather significantly. The good news is that a recharge only takes a couple of hours, and a secondary battery is available for purchase. Overall, I'd go with this camera if I had a choice in security systems.

I currently own the Arlo Pro 4XL system and needed another camera for my backyard. As with every technology it is continuously being improved so I was curious to try out the new Arlo Pro 5s 2K camera. Install was very simple. Charged the battery, mounted/installed, connected to my wifi and hub and away we go. I also noticed an upgrade to the Arlo app which is even more user friendly then the last version. I really like the the new home page/dashboard and the ability to personalize which cameras or widgets are highlighted. Back to the the camera...First I want to note how clear this camera is. I definitely noticed a lot sharper sharper details in my videos especially as I zoomed in which is a nice feature when trying to capture a face or a license plate. The range of view is consistent with my other cameras which is great. One of the other benefits is the extended life from the batteries which is always a bonus. I have yet to test the longevity, but feel this is just another benefit to upgrade when looking for new security cameras. So far so good. Love the new camera and would recommend when looking to upgrade or invest in a new wireless security system.

Perfect addition to my 2 indoor Arlo cameras. I've had a couple indoor cameras for a few years and was hoping this would integrate with them even though this one is much newer. It went flawlessly but I did have to update the app I was using. Quickly added the new camera and now I can control all 3 together on the same app. Set up was fast and easy. So happy about that. Love the spotlight on it. Definitely bright enough to light up the area when it detects something. I'll be using this outdoors to protect our back deck and watch the critters that come visit us at night. Much better video quality than the typical trail cam. Seems pretty good so far at not noticing leaves blowing around but saw a coyote and our regular possum friend stop by the other night. The weather hasn't been cooperative enough here lately for me to get outside and permanently mount it but it looks very easy to do so and I'm looking forward to getting that done. Very happy with this so far and extra happy that 1 app controls all my Arlo cameras. I'll be picking up another of these soon to keep an eye on our front yard as well.

This camera was a nice upgrade from my old, out of date camera. Set up was easy and fairly quick. The 2K resolution is crystal clear and the color night vision is quite impressive. The built-in spotlight is a game-changer. It's bright enough to deter any would-be intruders, and it's motion-activated, so you don't have to worry about it staying on all night. Plus, you can customize the motion detection zones to focus on the areas that matter most to you. Two-way audio is another fantastic feature. I've used it to scare off package thieves, have a chat with delivery drivers, and even just to say hi to my dog when I'm away from home. The sound quality is excellent, and it's a fantastic way to interact with whoever's at your doorstep. One of the standout features for me is the Arlo app. It's intuitive and user-friendly, allowing me to check the live feed, review recorded footage, and customize settings all from my smartphone. The free cloud storage for the last 7 days of footage is a huge plus. If you need more storage, they have subscription plans.

I have owned and operated an Arlo system for over 7 years and they are a sophisticated system of outdoor cameras, I guess they could be indoor also, that has helped me with security of my property and the products are durable and easy to set up and never fail in any types of harsh weather. This camera was a nice addition to my system and the good thing about Arlo, the ease of adding new products is nice and easy and they keep it simple. Plus you can set up zones and its nice to be able to live view video and audio and you can even chat via audio through these cameras which is a nice feature. They mount on magnets or a screwed in mount to any surface, I added them to backyard trees, the garage and even sides of the house and being wireless you dont have to worry about clunky wires getting in the way and obstructing your set up. The camera is also durable and stands up to ice and snow and cold and the battery is durable as well. I would highly recommend these cameras since they are easy to use and a breeze to set up.

I got this camera to add to my existing Arlo system at our mountain property. I first initiated it into service at our Arlo system at my home. Yes we have two Arlo systems, and they’ve been great up to this point. Initial unboxing, activating, and updating firmware went smoothly. When adding the Pro 5s to our existing system, the Arlo Secure app told me it needed to be updated before I could add the 5s. I didn’t know there was an updated app, so I updated it then got a message that our Arlo doorbell camera does not yet have firmware supported by the new app, so I cannot add a schedule for my doorbell camera. I can turn the doorbell camera on and off, see what’s going on out there, but it will not record anything. I checked the Arlo website and saw an “end of life” notice, so apparently its on its way out even though its only a couple of years old. Guess I’ll have to buy a new one so that blows. On the plus side, I like the layout of the new app and it adds new functionality that I did not know existed. I’ll need to spend more time with the app to get familiar with the various new options. On the minus side, its not nearly as intuitive or easy to setup on/off schedules for your cameras as the old app was. Also, once I updated to the new app my previously set System On/Off settings disappeared. They are scheduled to turn on in the evenings thru the morning, and I updated the app around 4pm so I started getting alerts immediately of cars driving by, my kids outside, etc. So I had to shut it all down and setup my schedules again, both at my home and our mountain property which was rather irritating. Regarding my review of the 5s camera, its very nice, the video/audio is great. But overall I do not like the new system. The arming/disarming away/home modes are different and do not work the same as they did before. The problem is that I have two different properties in my Arlo app with two different base stations but as far as I can tell there is no way to separate the two. The system is not intuitive at all. What I’m trying to do is arm our vacation home 24 hours a day and only have my main home security on during the evening hours, which was very easy to do using the previous app. With the new app, as far as I can tell you either can arm everything or nothing, you cannot separate the two. I’ve read all the literature and maybe I’m missing something, but its very frustrating and I have not been able to figure it out so security at BOTH of our properties is not in effect. Also, I no longer get consistent app alert notifications. Prior to the new app I would get notification alerts every time one of my camera’s motion detection was triggered and a recording made. With the new app, I was getting no notifications so I wasn’t sure if it was even working properly. Then I finally got an alert notification at our vacation home so I pulled up the app and there were 34 recordings by one camera (yet only one notification??). I looked at the recordings, there was no movement on any of the recordings. Sometimes when the wind blows at that property the large trees will sway and trigger the motion detection, but it was a calm day, the trees weren’t moving at all. So again, I don’t know what’s going on since getting the new app. To sum up, the 5s camera is nice, the new Arlo app is not user-friendly and confusing, I can’t tell if the system is working or not, and my doorbell camera can no longer record. Arlo, please make this process easier or I cannot recommend this system.

    Typical camera, nothing fancy.

The camera was easy to install and has a great picture quality. It works well with my other Arlo cameras. The only negative thing is that I found it difficult to figure out how to make the siren function. There were no clear instructions so there was a lot of time searching online. I thought it was a tad pricey when compared to other cameras but I wanted an arlo with a siren so …. This was my only option

This is a great little camera. Its faster recording then Pro4. Video feeds are better quality. Motion is detected better. Night vision works great. Really this is good camera. Must have subscription though. No more free recordings. But you get a lot for that subscription. I totally recommend it. New App can be better and I think over time it will become even better and more user friendly. Watch for Arlo special sales to save a lot on new cameras. If I had to choose between Pro4 and Pro5S I would definitely choose Pro5S.

Great quality and easy to set up. The battery life is decent especially when paired with after market solar panels.
