I chose a wireless connection for its ease of setup. Connecting to Wi-Fi took several attempts because it wouldn’t connect to the 5G network. I ended up using the standard connection, slightly slower, but not a dealbreaker. I'm happy with the video resolution; the wide-angle view from head to toe works as advertised. I gave it 3 stars due to its limited storage options. After the 1-month trial period, the unit becomes almost useless. While I still receive motion notifications on my phone via the Arlo app, I cannot view the footage. That’s all it does. It doesn’t save or store video feeds, and I can’t go back to review footage unless I subscribe. Last but not least, if a guest wants to reach you, or you need to contact emergency, guess what? It will not work. Subscribe is the only option. This is something worth considering before making a purchase.

Easy Install, Great Video Audio Rec and 2-way talk

I have been a huge fan of Arlo products, I have several Arlo cameras, sensors and keypad in my home. I really appreciate that they do not force you to have a subscription to record video by allowing you to use a SD card in their hub station. I have always wanted to upgrade my doorbell to a smart doorbell and decided to go with Arlo. I know its pretty large compared to other smart doorbells however wanted to give them a chance. I am so glad I did, this doorbell has been amazing at recording video / audio and providing 2-way communications. Setup - Out of the box it provides all the items needed along with a "slight" angle frame. I have a wired doorbell so it was easy to connect the wires to the Arlo device. The screws are pretty thick and long to support this large device to be ready to expand those holes in your wall. Arlo provides video walkthroughs for installation and setup which was awesome at making this super easy. Due to my doorbell being on the side instead of front facing walkway I purchased an extended angler. This made it a ton better at capturing my whole walkway and recommended for those who have side doorbells as well. Video / Audio - The video and audio on this looks great, out of the box it is set to optimized battery however if you are using wires like myself I recommend changing to video quality. The video looks great during the day and at night. I like the ability to zoom in the picture to make out far away objects. The audio is clear and crisp sounds give me the comfort that they can hear me clearly when speaking. On that note, it has a really cool feature that it will call your cell phone when someone presses the button to speak instead of just an alert/ping. This call feature guarantees you'll never miss a call as well as allows responsive 2-way communication without needing to go through the app. You can even leave recorded automated responses that can be set when they press the button which was a nice feature. Arlo App - the Arlo App allows for a lot of customization of the Arlo doorbell. If you are one that likes to go in and customize settings then this will be a great feature for yourself. I for one loves to always tweak things until I have the perfect match. Not to worry though if you want simple out of box functionality, then this works perfectly for that as well. For customize enthusiasts you can setup routines to specify recording time, activity zones , notifications, etc. The best part is you can access the recordings from your SD card if you do not have an active subscription. Arlo Subscription - You do not need a subscription to enjoy 99% of the features however if you want the ability to view video while away from your home network you will need one. It is nice that they allow a simple 5/10 month subscription to tie to one device if you do not want the whole subscription package. Overall I have been off and on Arlo Subscriptions and have enjoyed their quality level of service and rates. No contact and you can cancel anytime. I normally jump onto a subscription during special rate periods then cancel after those are over, waiting until next special rate period. Overall this is a great product and strongly recommended for those who want a video doorbell with great audio/video. The ability to still record video on a local SD card without the need for a subscription is huge win!

Overall, this camera has been great for my needs. I switched over from Blink which I did not have a good experience with. This Arlo camera has been very reliable, great quality and holds charge for a decent amount of time. I think the response time on motion could be a little quicker. I would also like to see which clips have been viewed and which ones have not. But overall we are satisfied.

The Arlo Video Doorbell 2K (2nd Generation) is the latest version of Arlo’s smart doorbell which raises resolution to 2K (from 1080P before) and adds a new look among a few other small tweaks. Devices now include USB-C connections for easy charging (if not hardwired) and offer a new set-up process for a more streamlined experience. After using the first-generation doorbell for several years, do these changes benefit the end user and is it enough to keep Arlo competitive? I am not so sure. In the Box: - Video Doorbell - Indoor Charging Cable - Wire Extension Kit - Flat Mounting Plate - Angled Mounting Plate - Security Latch Release Pin - Screw Kit - Quick Start Guide Setup: Assuming you already have a newer Arlo security system, the setup is easy. Simply open the app and add a new camera. The app recently went through a new redesign (which isn’t the easiest to navigate) but it isn’t terrible. Once you go through the set by step process, it should be added to your system’s list of cameras. If you are setting this up as a sole camera, the process shouldn’t be all that different. The biggest takeaway of an install is the fact this camera only supports 2.4gHz Wi-Fi connections, works with both digital and mechanical chimes (make sure you have a compatible chime), and needs to be fully charged. The camera housing itself is fractionally wider than the first generation. This means that in tight clearance areas, it could be just wide enough to pose a problem (ahem, my situation). The kit includes a flat mount and angled mount which should cover most installations. Camera/Performance: The camera quality is… fine. I wouldn’t consider this to be groundbreaking by any means. I am not sure I can even tell a difference vs the 1080P version before but the more pixels the better in most cases. It is a very wide-angle lens which means it can get extra brick (in our case) inside of the frame which worsens the quality overall. Lucky you can set activity zones and crop the image to help minimize issues and better performance. Motion detection seems hit or miss. The doorbell supports 2-way audio, and it is decent. Again, I can’t seem to tell a difference in performance from the last one. It works well enough for every situation and latency is minimal with a good connection. The camera can be operated with the built-in battery as well although I would not recommend this as the entire camera has to come off to be able to charge the camera via USB-C from the back. I am not sure how long the battery would last as I have already hardwired mine. App/Software: My biggest issues have always come from the app and software integration. I think the Arlo hardware is fine for the most part (although performance could be hindered somewhat in this aspect also) but the software/app is hard to navigate and buggy. Using some of the smart features of the doorbell and camera system can be hard to find and utilize. They now have schedules which are called “routines” and “automations”. These are not intuitive to set up. I would also not rely on capturing 100% of security events in front of the cameras you may have with these systems because they just don’t work a portion of the time. The doorbell is great for notifications when someone presses the button but solely motion events may or may not get captured and/or notified. Likes: - Design - 2K Resolution - Hardwire/Battery Dislikes: - App - Arlo Ecosystem Performance (As a whole) Overall, the Arlo Video Doorbell 2K (2nd Generation) is an incremental step for their video doorbell lineup. With several mounting options and power methods it allows one to cover just about any situation. The design is attractive, and setup is easy. Would I recommend Arlo to someone who doesn’t already have one of their systems? Probably not. Would this be a good addition for someone who already has their camera system? Sure. My biggest issues with Arlo over several years has been the reliability in actually capturing motion events directly in front of the cameras which is the biggest reason to get a security system in the first place.

I've been using the Arlo Smart Wi-Fi Camera for a few months now, and I'm really impressed with its performance. The video quality is excellent—clear, sharp, and consistent both during the day and at night. I especially like the wide-angle view and the color night vision, which gives me peace of mind when checking on my property after dark. Setup was quick and easy thanks to the wireless design and user-friendly mobile app. The camera connected to my Wi-Fi without any issues, and I had it mounted and running in under 30 minutes. The motion detection is very accurate, and I appreciate being able to customize motion zones to reduce false alerts. The two-way audio works well, and it's nice to be able to communicate through the camera if needed. It also integrates smoothly with my smart home system (Alexa/Google), and the app makes it simple to view live footage, check event history, or adjust settings on the go.

A Breeze to Setup and Perfect for Home

I’ve had a smart doorbell for a few years now (another brand) and I’ve been trying to find one to replace it. Then comes Arlo and I’m excited to share that it’s been an upgrade so far. I had stalled on replacing the other doorbell because it was tough to find an upgrade that I absolutely loved. It’s a breeze to get started: 1. Download the app 2. Install it 3. Watch it work I’m wanting the wireless doorbell now but that will have to wait. Video resolution is amazingly sharp and clear and the sound is crisp when I tune in via my phone. I think my favorite feature right now is the text to voice feature. When you get someone soliciting something at your door, instead of speaking up yourself you can choose a preset message like “not interested” and the Arlo sends the message over spear to the doorbell. I went outside to listen and the volume was not overly loud. The events/history recordings are also easy to access and easy to share or download. My only drawback was connecting the doorbell to my built in doorbell to my home. Otherwise it’s been a stellar doorbell for my homes

This my first real foray into owning a video doorbell and everything seems to be running solid 1 week into using the product. The fact that it's both wired and wireless is a nice alternative to competitors only focused on offering stand alone solutions. The specs are also very competitive. SETUP: Straight forward. You're going to need to need a power drill and 6mm bit to install this in the location of an existing legacy doorbell. It's not that hard, but it takes prep. Take your time with this as misaligning the location will be a problem and require filling previous holes. Mine installed perfectly fine without issue. HARDWARE PERFORMANCE: Generally good. I don't know what to expect from latency, but it seems to perform well with my WIFI7 router. This is a 2.4G WIFI4 device. The camera doesn't look 2k, but its a good wide angle and I can't really complain that much about video quality. I would say above average, but not perfect. Audio is also average for intercom usage. SOFTWARE: Straight froward and initiative. Any setting you can think of is there and works as you would expect. Package recognition could be better but I'll admit it could be due to the location of the device and off angle on my home. PROBLEMS: Not sure if ARLO system was down the day I received it, but it absolutely refused to connect to my router.. Worked the next day.. Wondering if it had to be activated on ARLO's end.. Not sure what really happened there. I can attest it hasn't dropped out since connecting so I'm neutral on that. The angle adapter also doesn't go far enough for where my doorbell location was originally placed and wired. This potentially means it has issues with packages as I mentioned in the software section of my review. If they included a 2nd wider angle adapter, I think the product would be more flexible Product can easily be "stolen" with a cell phone pin adapter.. There's no real way to prevent this other than to subscribe to the monthly service and file a police report if it happens. They claim they will replace the product if subscribed to Arlo secure "basic 1 camera". SUBSCIPTION SERVICE: You get a trial of Arlo secure upon signing up and activating this product. It only last a month, but its required if you want advanced notifications to continue working.. I do like the advanced notifications, but I'm not sure if I will continue subscribing due to off angle of my doorbell. You can still view camera and what not, just wont be notified via automation when actions happen. You also get 30 days of playback which seems standard these days for a subscription model. Overall.. I would rate it as a 3.5/5. While I like the general performance of the product, there are a few drawbacks that I'm not really a fan of... Thanks for reading.

Picked up the Arlo doorbell camera on sale and so far I can't be happier. Easy instructions and quick to set up. The camera looks very modern compared to other cameras so the presentation to the front door is enhanced. The motion monitoring is works as intended with no issues so far. The motion picks up images pretty far had a gentleman mowing my lawn and he was at least 15 ft away. I would recommend this doorbell to others on the easy setup and motion monitoring system.

Works great. Got it because my wife and I already have quite a few cameras from Arlo and wanted to integrate it into the app. Works great in that regard and has good quality. The only gripe I have is that it was kind of a bear to get to work correctly with my existing doorbell chime. Initial attempts would cause the plunger thing in the chime box that creates the chime to get stuck, hum, and after 5-10 seconds release for a single tone instead of the traditional two tone doorbell chime. Eventually I unwired the camera unit and meticulously rewired it, ensuring no rubber was between the screw and the plate between which the wire goes on the camera mounting kit. It worked. Now the doorbell functions normally. If anyone runs into this issue, I'd recommend starting there.
