To be honest I first purchased this game due to the lack of non ported Switch games. It looked pretty unique as well. Initially playing the game it seemed a little slow and basic, but after about an hour or two it really started getting fun as I got more accustomed to the controls and modes. The more you play the more dept in the play dynamics can be found. The multiplayer mode is setup pretty well, and is a refreshing take on team play. It also helps that they recently released a new update that includes a new character.

This game is really fun and customizable. 2 players can play using 1 switch, using the seperate Joycon controllers, so it's great for multiplayer. You can also play it online. It's a fantastic game and I'm hooked.

Light on Content, Heavy on Mechanics

Arms is at once a game with minimal barrier to entry but, keep looking and you'll find a surprising amount of mechanical depth. The unfortunate side with this game is that, the modes and things to do with those mechanics are sadly, much more shallow. Controls (whether motion or button based) take 3 major factors into account: Positioning, Blocking, and Punching. Unlike most fighting games (save for Virtual On), the camera is located squarely behind you, with delayed arms being thrust at your opponent. If using motion controls, this allows you to throw your arms outward in hopes of connecting. Unlike Wii boxing, however, you'll soon find that rapidly flinging your arms out will cause a disadvantage, as it will leave your character open to attacks. This puts the fights into a "Rock, Paper, Scissors" scenario. Blocks will stop straight forward punches, but not grabs or punches from the side. Grabs will defeat blocks, but not punches and also leave your character wide open for pummeling, should the opponent dodge. Dodges briefly prevent you from being able to punch and so on, so forth. The variety of fighters and their weapons (aka "Arms") allows for fights to go a multitude of ways. Stages also create different scenarios based on differing ground elevations, or moving platforms. Fights play out different every time and can be thrilling with the pendulum swinging of incoming victory swinging back and forth. While the fight mechanics are fresh, there aren't enough interesting modes past this. There's no story mode, instead a rudimentary "go up the ladder and face every opponent one by one" grand prix. The variations unfortunately step away from the depth of the rock paper scissors approach, becoming simplified bullish variations of "rock rock rock" instead. "V-Ball", a volley ball style game, feels random and largely uncontrolled, "Hoops" seems overly frenetic and unpredictable as people just throw grabs at each other in rapid succession. Skill Shot separates opponents instead favoring trying to rack up a high score on targets. The 1 vs 100 mode is fun, but will undoubtedly get old over time. Multiplayer Party mode is fun, but aside from 1 vs 1 fighting, it simply feels more chaotic than you'd want it to be, plus 1 vs 1 is limited to ranked fighting and is locked away unless grand prix is beaten at a certain skill level. There's a lot to like about Arms. It's one of the few games I can play against my 6 year old nephew and against skilled online players while walking away feeling the satisfaction of a match. I only wish that there was more to do in it.

Yes, you can just mash buttons in a wild, random fashion and even win a few matches. Once you get past that, there is a surprising depth and balance to the combat system. It gets quite challenging and fun.

At first, I thought this game would never catch on but after watching some gameplay and finally getting a chance to play it, it turned to be very enjoyable. It's like Wii Sports Boxing and Punch-Out! but more quirky and fun for a new generation! The amount of content and customization is quite decent and the multiplayer modes are addictive, especially Ranked Mode, which I find to be more exciting than the standard multiplayer modes. Definitely recommend it for both fighting game fans and those looking for a good competitive game to have some good laughs over.

I find this game a little boring. But my 5 year old loves it. He plays it, punches, and bounces around the living room for about 30 minutes until he is tired and turns it off. I just wish there was more to the game than just throwing punches.

Good simple game for family fun "boxing". It can be very entertaining for moments with family or friends but it feels like it is missing something to make it truly great. I recommend this mainly for younger people, kids, etc.

    Exciting New IP For Nintendo!

Let me start this off by saying that, when I saw the reveal trailer for this title, I thought it looked utterly ridiculously (in a negative way). Upon getting further information about the game through Nintendo Direct's and getting to try the game during the demo event, I absolutely fell in love with the game. It's easy to pick up, but difficult to master. There are 10 unique characters in the game, all with pros and cons to each, and there are thousands of different arm combinations to choose from once you start unlocking more arms for all the characters. There are a couple of different modes in the game. The first one is Grand Prix, which is a single player mode where you fight through 10 rounds to become the ARMS Grand Champion. Beat it on level 4 or above and you might unlock the true ending. There's a party mode for online battles, which is more for fun and just randomly matches you with others. There's also a ranked mode for the more competitive ARMS players. The different battles in party mode are 1v1 fights, 1v1v1 fights, 2v2 fights, 3vHedlok (Hedlok is a character with 6 arms), basketball (throw your opponent into the b-ball hoop), volleyball, and skillshot (whoever breaks the most targets win). This also applies to local multiplayer, LAN play, and playing with friends online. Overall I absolutely love and adore this game. It brings that magical Nintendo charm to the fighting genre, and they're promising free DLC updates with new stages and characters in the coming months after launch, so that'll keep you going for well after you've purchased the title. Definitely recommend adding this to your Switch collection!

Arms isn't a game I would typically play on my own. That said, with a friend, it becomes an awesome addition to the Switch library. Multiple modes including tournaments, versus and co-op. Motion controls make players at any skill level able to enjoy the fighting, while beginners can improve with the use of special skills and moves.

ARMS is weird. It’s very barebones and only for multiplayer TOTALLY WORTH IT I think people should read multiple reviews , not gamespot or ign, before buying or trying it for a while As most things Nintendo, it can be not what you except at all However using the motion controls and playing with the pro cont roller, there is a lot more to arms than what people said first about it Also, a lot of DLC and development is going into it, check it out

My son's top 3 game for the switch. I think it takes a while to build experience and get access to better "arms", but he enjoys the game alone or with a friend.

Arms has tons of replayability. You choose from one of 25ish or so characters and then fight, using the joycons to punch! It's super fun with friends and online - the depth is definitely there if you want it to be, just be aware that online play is filled with people a lot better than you. Practice and enjoy this game for what is it - a unique new fighter that deserves your attention.

Arms is fun. Good graphics, good motion controls, tight gameplay. Lots of fun for local multiplay with friends. However... - Online 1v1v1 mode is aweful. It always comes down to two players ganging up on the third. - Traditional controls are nerfed and cannot be remapped just so the motion controls have a chance. - Level 7 CPU cheats to make the game harder. It's still winnable but not without tons of rage towards all the cheap moves you'll be putting up with.

ARMS is a great party game for the switch. It's exciting and funny to play against your friends or just to watch while taking a break from playing yourself. The main gameplay is a fresh twist on a standard fighting game that keeps it engaging. What keeps this from 5 stars is the notable lack of single player content and a small amount of game modes. Hopefully the planned free dlc will include some new game modes that will keep players coming back

At first when I didn't read any of the instructions and kinda just tried to spam my way through the game, I got frustrated really quickly and the game wasn't fun for me. But when I came back to it and played/ learned it with a friend, this game really shone. It was so much fun once you actually learn the deeper mechanics. Playing with friends is definitely a lot more fun and the volleyball and other modes add a lot of nice variety.

Arms is tons of fun, especially if you have a buddy to play it with. The appeal of the game runs dry after about a month and a half, so id recommend to wait for a sale.
