Customers are saying

Customers highly value the SURFboard AC2350's ease of use, performance, and quick setup. Many appreciate its strong WiFi signal and wide range, finding it provides reliable internet access throughout their homes. While some mention the router's larger size, the positive feedback on performance and ease of use outweighs this concern. The affordable price point is also frequently cited as a significant advantage.

ARRIS - SBG7400AC2 SURFboard AC Dual-band Wi-Fi Router I have always preferred to have a separate cable modem and router than an all in one solution that the Arris Surfboard or the Xfinity versions are. I am on Comcast and it just so happens I had to replace both my router and cable modem recently. Going with the Xfinity version was never an option for me because I don’t want to pay the rental fee. I go even farther and I don’t use the Xfinity set top boxes connected to my TVs either. All my media and TV are streamed over my local wired lan. I only pay Comcast a monthly fee for the actual video and internet service I want. So my network demands might be more than most. I found the Arris Surfboard was able to handle my network just fine. Except for my gaming PC and my TVs all of my other devices connect to my network from the wireless network. This include four outside wireless cameras. The Arris Surfboard was giving me speed test results close too or the same speeds as I was already getting from my brand new networking gear costing over three times more. My cable connection comes into a junction box in an upstairs master bedroom closet. So I have had to build shelving to hold my router and cable modem. Over the years I have spent quite a bit of time keeping it all tidy. If I had this cable modem most of that would have never been necessary. Installation both with the software and from the hardware connection to Comcast has been dead simple. This is an excellent solution for apartments or anyone that just wants to replace their rental fee for the one time purchase. Of course it is money saved overtime but for the lifetime of the modem it will pay for itself. But even with all of the pluses this is still not for me. I demand the absolute best networking gear that I can afford. Internet access is a necessary utility to me. Still for most everyone I know I would not have any problem recommending they use the Arris Surfboard Modem. It is fine solution for cable cutters and works much better than I expected. And is likely a plug and play replacement for anyone wanting to take the Xfinity modem back to the Comcast store so they can take if off your monthly bill.

Occasional reboots or stopped working. PDPU reset each time. Can be manually setup for more security. Won't be going back to Comcast because of price gauging.

I recently moved into a new apartment and found myself with the ARRIS SURFboard AC Dual-band Wi-Fi Router. After about a week of use, I haven’t had a single issue with it yet. I can detail my journey with the SBG7400AC2: Unboxing - The modem/router came with an ethernet cable, the plug for the wall, a user manual, and maybe an extra cord I lost between then and now. Nothing crazy, very intuitive set-up of the physical components. Installation - After plugging the power cord into the wall and screwing the internet cord (I have no idea the actual name) into the back of the Arris, the lights immediately came on. When I called Spectrum to have them turn on my internet they just had to reset the modem to approve it and record the MAC address that was right on the side. Configuring Settings - Next is the part I normally dread, which is configuring ipv4/6/etherbandwidthmamajig, coming up with passwords, and having Windows troubleshoot for like two hours. But to my surprise, there was none of that! The preset passwords were right on the side of the modem, and they were strong enough that I didn’t feel the need to change them. Now, when guests come and ask “what’s the WiFi password”, I can just point them at the Arris and there’s no problem! If you majored in Wi-Fiology at Internet University you can change all the advanced settings you could ever dream of. But if you’re like me and you’d rather pay somebody else to figure all of that out so you can just plug it in and not worry, then this is the PERFECT modem/router dual frequency combo product for you. Troubleshooting - I can’t say much here because I haven’t had a single issue yet. Every once in awhile the little yellow caution triangle pops up on my Wi-Fi signal bars, and I die a little inside. But lo and behold, it resolves itself within seconds, no “Configure Internet Windows” necessary. McAfee - I think most bloatware is worse than treason. When I pay for something, I don’t want to be attacked by some program I can’t install and constantly harassed into buying a subscription. But to be honest, I didn’t even know this modem/router had McAfee until I came to post this review. That’s how unintrusive it is. Closing Comments: If you want an in-depth review analysis of the function of the ethernet ports and the two dozen download channels and whatnot, check out some of the other reviews. But if you’re looking for an endorsement from somebody who is terrible with electronics and considers tech support a swear word, then I’ve got what you need. If you’re with me on that, the Arris is exactly what you need. It’s so amazingly stress-free to not have to worry about configuration or any issues with the internet. I highly recommend this for you.

This is the first time in a long time that I have used a modem/router combo. I am not a huge fan of putting all of your eggs in one basket and being able to replace a single component instead for both if one side fails. However, maybe this Surfboard will change my mind. Unboxing, this piece is pretty bland. Nothing jumps out as amazing, but even in what seems to be the dawn of aesthetic routers, I prefer function over form. Having installed numerous modems and routers for family and myself, I had no worries about diving right into installing this. Plug in Coax, Call Cable Company and give them the information that they need, plug in the power, and poof! Ready to go! There are a couple apps that the instructions tell you to download, and they are pretty user friendly, especially the Surfboard app. It gives you an intuitive layout that allows you to modify anything that you need and doesn't include most of the "fluff" items that you will never touch. Now the biggest reasons that someone would buy this item...speed and range. The speed for both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies are pretty good. Over wifi connections at 10 feet I was getting right at the speed that I pay for (5% +/-) over 10 speed tests using Speedtest by Ookla. This is about 15% better than a comparable product I have tested. The distance and stability of the 2.4ghz station is pretty good. With numerous people in the house constantly using the internet for gaming, streaming, etc. The 5ghz channel, not so much. It is much shorter than my what I am typically getting with a dedicated router. Overall, this Surfboard is simple, does what it is asked, and works well. I would recommend it to anyone that wants a plug and play system. However. this is a 3.0 system. You will not get gigabit over coax. I have Cox and they require a 3.1 modem to get gigabit over their coax/fib hybrid.

I was not able to get this modem to activate as there was an issue on the back end with comcast not havin it registered properly as an approved device. This is not an issue with the product itself, so if you don't have comcast don't worry about it. When I spoke to advanced IT at comcast they said it literally was the fact that the specific model number for this unit is entered wrong and therefore it would not activate properly for xfinity internet

Love having a modem/router all in one. Easy set up. Just follow directions and activate it. Make sure to check that this modem/router will work with your provider, then just follow the directions and call and activate it through that provider. Once the activation was completed, I found it very easy to connect wireless access, just find the router name and type in the password. I needed a router extension because of the long distance and weak signal at the other end of the house. I just used my Velop router as the extension to the other rooms. It was so easy to just plug in my first Velop to the modem/router and then connect them wirelessly to each other. I did a speed test and this modem/router was definitely faster than the other modem I was previously using. If you rent your modem through your provider, this is so worth the money. It pays for itself in no time. The only thing I didn’t care for was that you had to connect the modem to a computer or laptop with an ethernet cable for setup. Because of where my old modem was located, this was very difficult for me to do.

I was using a basic modem from my cable company (Spectrum), and then also had one of those router hub systems that utilizes three different routers. The weak point was my modem. After switching to this modem/router life is so much simpler now. No more having to worry about why does this router in the bedroom have a red light etc etc. I have noticed that my cameras now are much better quality wise, no interruptions and gaming is great too. I also did speed test and honestly didnt see a huge difference between my old setup and this one but it just feels like pages are loading faster so no idea on the technical aspect how much better it is, just that it works alot better. Installation was a breeze. I didnt follow what the instructions said and ended up having to look at the instructions eventually after not being able to connect. In spectrums case you need to call them and tell them your using a new modem. Once I did that I got connection right away. Btw there is a number you can call to reach a tech person from arris and he was awesome. Helped me with my wifi settings and changing password etc. Love the modem. I am not using the free McAfee trial that came with it. You can or you can opt not too, modem works either way great.

If you’re not a moderate or power user, you’ll probably find this modem/router useful. It’s nice that it’s an all in one device. It allows for you to save space. Place the four ethernet ports are handy if your home is lightly connected. They are supposed to be gig speed, but with so little actual roll out of gig speeds, who really knows if they meet those limits. For streaming content though, the modem keeps up well and I haven’t noticed any buffer issues to my port connected AppleTV. The router range is good for around our ~1500 sf ft house. About 175’ from the house, in my (off grid) shed, the signal falls off dramatically. Not an issue I had with my dedicated router. The app is fairly basic. Unless I’m overlooking something, I do not see a way to disable the wifi functions or restrict access of a device. There is a web-based interface, but it only seems to work on the phone. I can’t bring it up on my PC. There you can turn on/off the wifi broadcast. Setup a guest network. It does offer far more customization but it would be nice to add some of that into to app. I have a different security software I run so I can’t speak to McAfee. The size is a bit big and will give your cable box a run for its money in terms of space allocation.

I have considerably better wireless performance/speed-test results than I obtained with my rented Cable Modem/Router. The downloadable plug-and-play auto-config app made it easy to replace my existing wireless Cable Modem/Router. The built-in McAfee® Secure Home Internet protection adds an additional layer of security. • Up to 1 Gbps DOCSIS® Download Speeds • 24 x 8 Modem Channels • AC2350 Mbps Wave 2 Dual Concurrent Wi-Fi Speeds • Four 1-Gigabit Ethernet Ports • Supports IPv4 and IPv6 • Front-panel WPS button easy connection to devices • 2 Year Limited Warranty • Compatible with Major U.S. Cable Providers Wireless coverage is stronger and faster in all areas of the house compared to the rented router this unit replaced. If you download the apps 3 and follow the simple installation instructions is very easy and does not take much time to be up and running.

First of all ARRIS is the same brand used by Spectrum here in Central Florida, so appearance wise it's like looking at a familiar face. But with a few differences. Let me say that the quality and reliability are excellent. Set up is a breeze BUT remember to call Spectrum and let them know you are swapping out routers. A minor inconvenience but you won't get anywhere unless you do this first. I don't know if that's the same for other providers or not. I can only review what I know first hand. OK these are 2 differences between the SURFBOARD SBG7400 AC2 and your rental. 1- No battery backup 2- if you use VOIP no joy. I found the first a minor inconvenience but the second a deal breaker for me. However, if your cable isn't your land-line provider, I'd jump on this unit. It's well made and leaves plenty of headroom for growth. Cheers -

The Arris Surfboard is a good router with robust features. The set up was very easy because I am familiar with Arris due to the fact, I have used their product in the past. I am pleased with the performance of this product thus far. The only deal breaker for me is the McAfee Antivirus protection. It is well known that this product does not provide adequate coverage; to the contrary, it provides little to no protection, as I have used it in the past only to receive dismal results. It is more of a nuisance than it is helpful. Again, if you are in need of a modem/router that gives optimal performance, I do recommend this product without reservation.
