I got the ARRIS - Surfboard to replace the modem I had from Spectrum, their modem worked well enough, however I would have the occasional issue with the device (even after replacing once) I wanted to just get something I know I could rely on. A coworker had an older model from ARRIS and recommended I try their product.
I plugged the Coaxial cable directly into the back of the Surfbaord and got on the phone with Spectrum to set up the device, they asked for a couple bits of information off of the device, had me browse to a webpage on my computer to finalize the installation.
One thing that I really like is that they color coded the back of the device where all of your connectors go, this is much more user friendly for anyone who may not be comfortable with setting up their electronic devices.
It is great that this device offers both modem and WiFi router capabilities, if you have a modem then a separate device to handle WiFi (provided by your Internet Service Provider) this replace both as this is a Modem/Wireless Router. This will help to put everything within one box and eliminate some clutter where you place it in your home.
The Speeds that this device is capable of is great, supporting up to 2350 Mbps, this device is more than enough to manage your average home network and then some. All of the ethernet ports on this device support gigabit so anything you may need to plug in will not be limited by the Surfboard.
Overall I have not experienced any issues with this device, after setting up with my ISP, I have not had to worry about this device, it just work! I would recommend this product to anyone looking to replace the equipment that has been provided to them, especially if you have a rental fee.

Save Money Monthly

Quick note: this is NOT compatible with Comcast Business Class internet.
The SURFboard provides an all-in-one solution as a modem and Wi-Fi router that will also save you money in equipment rental fees. This setup is probably better suited for those who are more tech-inclined as it takes about 15 minutes of technical setup that Comcast can guide you through.
The footprint of the SURFboard is comparable to most stock equipment. These things aren't pretty to look at, but they also don't take up a ton of space. ARRIS is the gold-standard when it comes to modems (most ISPs recommend them if you DIY on your equipment - but be sure to check with your ISP before you buy one, they can let you know what is compatible and will serve your needs best).
Wi-Fi coverage is solid, with a noticeable increase in speed vs the stock equipment from Comcast. The four Ethernet ports are helpful and can save you the additional equipment of a hub (depending on your stock router).
Overall, with a smidge of work and a little tech effort, you can save money on your monthly internet bill. Worth the investment (plus you can likely sell it to recoup costs if you ever change your ISP).

Cowabunga dude!

Can't believe I just wrote that but, it kind of fits. This device is called a surfboard and it works really well. So yes, "Cowabunga dude".
I've been a customer of Charter/Spectrum for a few years now because unfortunately they are the only game in town for internet in my area. Since we moved in we've had the modem/router that Charter gave us. That was about 3 years ago. We have never had lightning fast internet but I tried power line adapters, (helped a bit) then most recently I bought the Eero Wi-Fi extenders (helped some more).
The Aaris surfboard was super easy to set up. Just plugged the coaxial cable into the back of the router and connected my Eero with an ethernet cable. I did have to make a call to Charter to have them activate the router but as the Aaris box says it was compatible with Charter so getting it working was no problem.
After getting the surfboard going I checked my speeds. Before the surfboard I was getting about 20Mbps dowload speed. After the Aaris is was getting 60-70Mbps! That's a heck of an improvement.
I'd say beyond a doubt this thing works. The only negative I have found is that the blue status lights on the front of the router are incredibly bright. So bright that you could use the thing as a night light. Fortunately I have the router in an upstairs bedroom. I had originally planned to put the router in my A/V cabinet in the living room but the brightness of the lights would have been the end of that.

The ARRIS - SURFboard Dual-Band AC2350 with 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem is the perfect option to function as the core of your home/office network. This ARRIS - SURFboard modem combines high speed network interfaces, wireless connectivity, security inspection and gigabit internet support from an ISP all into one stellar package.
The system is easy to setup and the management is very intuitive. Make sure to confirm compatibility with your ISP. I have gigabit internet service from my ISP and using the SBG7600AC2 (ARRIS SURFboard Dual-Band AC2350) as my cable modem the internet is consistently fast and dependable. I can stream HD content, game without latency issues, and operate multiple devices on Wi-Fi and ethernet without any problems.
The wireless range is awesome. I can roam around my home and office and never experience drops or dead spots in the coverage.
I am extremely happy with this cable modem, and I recommend it to all looking to own a high quality, extremely fast modem instead of leasing one from the ISP. The ARRIS - SURFboard Dual-Band AC2350 with 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem is an excellent choice.

I replaced my existing ARRIS cable modem and ASUS wifi router with this high speed ARRIS Surfboard combo and was surprised by the improvement. I was not expecting a big increase in performance, assuming that it would be limited by the cable provider, but after testing, the overall throughput increased by about 20-30%.
In terms of setup, it was very straight-forward, with easy to follow directions. I did some prep work, such as downloading the iPhone app and checking with my provider (Spectrum) if I needed to call them up to switch the cable modem (yes). It only took about 5 minutes on the phone with Spectrum to get the new HMAC added to the system and another few minutes for the router to reboot and start working.
I recreated my SSID and password and all my IoT devices started reconnecting to the network without any issues. The only one that I had a problem with was the garage door, which took a day to get back online.
The only gripe I have with the setup was that it tells you to connect your laptop via a wire to the router to perform the setup. I'm not sure about everyone else, but I haven't had a laptop with an ethernet port in over 5 years. I used the wireless connection, which wasn't clearly stated as an option to start the setup. They list how to setup wireless later in the document, but not in the initial setup section.
Overall, really enjoying the improvement over my 3 year old equipment.

Solid Modem/router combination

Router setup wasn’t difficult. Just need to make sure to call the ISP to register the device or it won’t work. That took a bit and a few reboots, but was finally connected and getting internet. Wi-Fi range is good, we had no issues in our 2000+ sq. ft. home. The speed is amazing with the 32x8 channels! I did have to reboot it a few times in the last few days due to pages not loading, but I hope that gets better over time. I wish it didn’t have McAfee built in. I’d rather be the one that takes care of my internet security inside my home. Still trying to figure out how to disable it completely. Since I didn’t want to reset the network connection on every dang device in my home, I had to go into the device to change the SSID to match previous. Not difficult, but not the usual address as was expected.
Over all I would recommend this modem/router combination. Great speeds and connectivity with an occasional reboot, but have to disable McAfee somehow.

Arris Lightening Speed Dual Band Cable-Modem

What a great SURFboard Dual Band Cable-Modem by Arris. It was so simple and easy to set up in under 20 minutes. Currently using a Comcast Modem and once activated by Xfinity everything connected seamlessly. I have two 4K TV's and both have Amazon Firestick which I had no problem with using 5G internet connection with very good or strong signal from Arris SURFboard and when needed to use 2.4 was equal. Mobile phone, laptops also followed suit with lightening connection. Arris SURFboard Dual Band 3.0 Cable Modem is the best all around Cable Modem that is compatible with Xfinity Wi-Fi providing step by step setup and configuration that will make your streaming, downloading worth the buy. But who can beat the extra bonus of saving me $10 bucks a month rental fee.

I just got a second AARIS Surfboard Cable Modem & Wi-Fi Router for my 724 sf one bedroom condo. Built-in Wi-Fi router powerful enough to get the job done.
Easy to set up using Android app on Pixel 3XL phone.
May take a little time for your ISP to recognize and activate the device but I got email stating I was good to go.
Also use the device in a 2 story 2500 sf house with Wi-Fi mesh routers (nodes) with no issues.
Saving $12 p/mo for modem (gateway) ISP rentals (x2) in both properties.
Have never paid for a modem (gateway) routers from my ISP. Why should I ?

Fed up with renting a modem...
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I was finally fed up with renting a modem from Xfinity. We dropped our home phone so I was finally able to shop for a retail modem. Speed wasn't our top concern given we only play for "Blast" (150Mbps) speeds. Rather, given the number of always connected devices in our house, we were more concerned about download channels. This modem will meet those concerns...and prepares us for faster internet service in the future should we choose to upgrade our internet speed down the road.
Installation wasn't too bad. As mentioned by others, there are Xfinity instructions that include going to an Xfinity.com/activate page. That process was relatively painless, although I sat and stared at a "please wait, could take 10 minutes" screen for about 15-20 minutes. It turns out I needed to do a manual reboot the help Xfinity finish the install. All told, an Xfinity activation will probably result in about 20 minutes of downtime if everything goes flawlessly.
Wifi range in our 2-story, full basement, 2200 sq ft drywall home is good throughout. Better coverage on 2.4GHz than 5.0GHz which is to be expected. At the farthest point in our house from our not ideally located modem placement, we still had -58dBm on 2.4GHz, -66dBm on 5GHz on above ground levels of the house which is acceptable for all activities. In the basement, we were -61/2.4 and -76/5 which is still usable.
Speed testing averaged around 120Mbps/12Mbps down/up on 5GHz wifi. Around 95Mbps down on 2.4Ghz.
Network ports on the back of the modem were important and our decision making process. We wire our TV and stereo for streaming services rather than relying on wifi. This device has 4 ports. Ports are also handy if you decide to forego the built-in wifi in favor of an external, add-on mesh wifi network--which will require a network port.
As for the bad, I am not a fan of the McAfee security stuff. Out of the box, YouTubeTV.com was blocked. That came as a surprise. I logged into the Arris device page figuring I had to change a DNS away from McAfee or untick a filter/parental control setting. Turns out you need to download and install their app for the McAfee "internet safety" management. I found the tool not overly complicated, but a bit confusing. Honestly I still haven't figured out how to kill the service completely. I'll likely have to rely on Google to help me because it was not intuitive as to how to bypass the safety features for all users. If you have children and the patience to configure devices, kids, and settings, it will be a useful tool. Otherwise, you might find it annoying.
The wifi on the modem is also not wifi-6 (802.11ax) compatible but wifi-6 devices will be backwards compatible and should work with this modem to still provide super fast speeds for the next 5+ years. Again, the 32x8 channel streams are probably more important than trying to reach 10Gbps wifi speeds in the future.
Overall this is a solid choice for speed, price, capability, and current technology. The McAfee safety works out of the box but requires some effort to tweak and use effectively if you have individual users/devices you want to control separately.
