This Modem is thankfully smaller than the Bulky Monster of a Modem that I was renting for so long from Comcast. It is cute, compact , compatible with the whole PC connection system , easy to install & All I did was call Comcast Cable company to get Activation. It's Excellent ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Yes- I recommend it for SURE .... NO doubt about it ! Rockford, I L .

Tired of paying my ISP to rent one of their modems.
Lots of research and this one just kept coming up on top for me; reliable manufacturer, good reviews by others, ease of setup, built for the future with 8-up 4-down bonding. Works just like promised with never a hitch. My only complaint is, as others have mentioned, the lights are irritatingly bright; this I solved by mounting under my desk where it is out of sight.
TIP 1: Make sure you purchase this "Retail Packaging - White". Don't try to save the few bucks buying the black version; all my research shows they are refurbished rentals from ISP providers and the common complaint is that they stop working about the time the warranty expires.
TIP 2: Make sure your ISP supports the firmware. My cable company does not specifically show this model but it supports the same model two generations back - close enough. All I did was a Google search " modems supported by mediacom des moines" (my ISP, my city). Take the time to do your research. I did and I'm VERY happy (except for the irritating lights).
TIP 3: One mis-notion: Just because this modem is "state-of-the-art" for home use, don't expect speed increases just by swapping modems. (Though my wife and I swear our pages load faster even though speed tests show the same up/down rates as before.) You have to up your internet package (dollars) to do this.
One month update - as pleased today as the day I set it up. Never a bump or a glitch.
Eight months and I'm as happy as the day I set it up!
A year and a half - I'm still as happy as the day I set it up!

Haven't noticed any issues. Works well with my Comcast Xfinity 50mbps download package and was easy to install. Much smaller than I thought and its very light so the cables pull down on it but it's not a concern for me. I pull 50-60 mbps when hooked up directly to mg computer. I have a router hooked up to it and only get anywhere from .5-15 mbps download but that's my router and the interference from surrounding WiFi's fault. Works well for what I need.

Bought this for a self install for my comcast X1 service. This modem was the easiest part of the whole install. I didn't have to reconfigure my router at all and had Internet within 10 minutes of plugging everything in. I would highly recommend this to anyone who needs a reasonable modem. By buying this, you save so much money on your bill. Basically, $10/mo for 24 mo comes to $240.

The surfboard works great. Easy to set up and haven't had to reboot yet. Only thing I hate about some purchases is that you get badgering emails asking to rate the product you bought. Can't I just buy something without getting
10 emails asking is it good? How's it working? Can you tell everyone on the planet that our $89 product is the best in the universe. I won't be giving out my email for any more purchases because of this and will definitely consider the annoying email surveys in future purchases!!

Reliable modem for 160d/120u data needs!

I had a Motorola modem (SB5101) that worked fine, but wanted higher modem data speeds and a router to go with upgrades of all home office equipment (new Tpad, custom-built desktop). Had intermittent drops we thought were caused by the modem but learned they were caused by the router. Modem has not dropped a connection once in the last month and one computer is always on. Glad with purchase but plan to upgrade to Motorola SBG6580 for higher mbps.
FYI: Customer service is excellent. Called Motorola to check on indicator lights before installation (no user guide in box) , and the tech was the best vendor customer service rep I have spoken with in ages! Also, he clearly had a strong knowledge of Motorola equipment along with English, not just a rote memory of the English language as shown by non-US reps who repeat what I've said back to me but do not understand anything. Facility with language does not infer comprehension. Cudos Motorola!

Ive just upgraded from another Motorola modem and the upload and download speeds have been greatly increased. (49mbps on the download and 11.35mbps on the upload)...With multiple devices , gaming and streaming videos, its capable of handling all of our needs. No software to load the set up was very simple and straight forward.

I love this cable modem, blazing speed, ease of installation made it stress free. And to to top it off i will be saving money over renting a modem from cable company, in a few months it will have paid for itself. Then there is the brand Motorola to make it a confidence buy for reliability. And lets not leave out best buy return policy as the clincher. Ya just can't go wrong with this purchase!

I bought this item because I needed a modem that's compatible with DOCSIS 3.0 to use my internet. I have a 25Mbps up and 5 Mbps down internet connection, so I don't need anything powerful or overpriced. This item here simply does the job and isn't too pricey. If you don't want to worry about technical specification or don't have a very fast internet connection then just buy this modem.

Buy it and don't pay comcast $10 a month!

Here's how the costs break down:
If you rent a Comcast modem for 2 years that's $10 x 24 months which ends up being $240 OR you could buy this modem for ~$70 dollars and put insurance on it for another $15 to have a modem that's protected if it fails. You may even get an extra year from this thing if you get a good one!
Installation is easy. Just call Comcast and give them the MAC address to this. You reboot the modem a few times and then you're good to go. I should have done this a long time ago. Instead, for the last 3 years I've been paying the $10 to rent their modems.
I got this model because I don't expect Comcast to boost our speeds until a competitor like Google Fiber comes into the area. This is still a few years away so I'm fine with this because my plan is the 105 mb down internet.
According to Speedtest I'm seeing 120 mb down and 12 mb up with this modem.

No need for anything higher then this model unless your an IT freak creating woman like in weird science movie... I have comcast above average package 50mbs speed and this works just fine.
This is worth the one time 70 bucks so you don't have to rent comcast or AT&T modems which are usually $7 a month. So it's a long term solution. Easy to set up especially if you have one wired PC.
It's not wireless so you will still need a wireless router which you can get anywhere.

Bought this on sale to stop paying a rental fee to my cable company. This was easy to install and it has worked as it should. Just be sure to check with your cable company to check that they support whatever cable modem you want to buy. This one was listed as supported by my cable company and it has worked flawlessly.

Only regret is not going for the SB6141

Only reason I chose the SB6121 over the SB6141 is predominantly due to the limitations of being a Time Warner customer maxed at 50MBPS at the most egregious price, secondly because I almost never stream / pull data usage to more than 3-4 devices at a given time. This more than covers 1-4 devices seamlessly and simultaneously in my application (up to 20MBPS combined with a Linksys AC1900). The surfboard is leaps and bounds better that the Ambit, rented p-o-j that TW was charging monthly rental fee which was a DOCSIS 1.0 and they claimed "was the best offered, non-wifi modem" available even though I had it >5 years.... This negated all buffering and slow connections when multiple devices were in use. If you are renting or using standard issue product from your provider - break free, go BYOD with this product if you can, and you will not regret it.

Comcast's web site lists all of the Cable Modems they support for home use and self-install, but that list is not easy to follow or understand - I was lucky to spot this one on the list and saw it was in stock at BestBuy. Nice high speed and easy setup with Comcast - I'm very happy with this modem.

My ISP only offers up to 30 Mbps download with 5 Mbps upload within my area. So far this modem has been able to get me at least 30-40 Mbps down with 5-9 Mbps up. This device hasn't crashed or failed on me since I purchased. It is great for the price and has done more then expected.
