Setup was relatively straightforward. Some learning needed to get satellite system properly connected.
App is simple to use and provides nice network summary information.
Unable to get access to router via laptop - can only access through smartphone app. Perhaps needs an additional setup instruction or permission which haven't been able to find through app.

The ONLY way to control settings in this router is via Bluetooth connection and an app on your smartphone. God forbid that you update your phone, because of you do, there is absolutely no way to enter this router’s settings or user interface without factory resetting the entire network and starting over from scratch. Absurd and infuriating.

If you search YouTube you will see the speeds I get on wireless AX using my IPhone 11 Pro Max along with it compared to my old mesh routers the Netgear Orbi. Over all I like this product. I did have one of the two be defective but after calling Arris ( online support is no help) they replaced the unit and all works very well. You can setup and guest network and no internet times for devices as parental controls. Again look for my YouTube video to see the speeds and more!

We bought this because first we tried the Orbi, and it kept dropping our connection. This product works great. Having the satellite really makes a difference upstairs on the other side of the house. I'm glad we got this, worth every penny. And cost less than the Orbi!

ARRIS - SURFboard mAX Pro Wireless-AX11000 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi Works really well in my house. It took awhile to set it up via mobile app but ultimately I’ve completed setup, checked for speed, identified all of my devices, setup up guest network, etc.
I’m happy about this system- it does work well with my Arris SB8200 cable modem.
Great product!

Pros: In a word WOW, the speed is unbelievable FULL STOP. I cannot believe how I am able to receive Great reception throughout my 3 level home with using only one tower.
Cons: I noticed a significant decrease in signal strength when I connect the second in my 3 level, 3,000 sq. foot house.

I’ve used a competitors 3 node mesh router setup for several years so I was excited to see what a difference the 2 node Arris Surfboard mAX Pro Wireless-AX11000 Tri-Band Mesh wifi 6 system would make on my home network. Unboxing simply reveals the 2 nodes, 2 power adapters, and an ethernet cable. The nodes themselves are fairly imposing at 9.6 inches tall and 5 inches round. I like the black color and angled top design which appears quite sleek and modern. I also like the base design with its cutout circular design which ingeniously acts as a cable management solution. Surprisingly absent in the box is any manual or documentation. Instead the box lid interior directs you to download the Arris Surfboard mAX manager app.
I eagerly proceeded with installing the app and starting setup. You’re initially prompted to setup an account. I have an Arris cable modem so I used that account. The app next presents you with 4 possible network configurations and asks to to select the setup which best reflects your current setup. I have an Arris cable modem with integrated wifi so I selected the gateway setup option. I only had to power on the node and connect it via ethernet cable to my modem and then to the WAN port on the bottom of the node. Upon selecting the gateway setup option I was presented with a prompt stating that we would address the dual router setup issues and bridge mode later in the setup. Setup then proceeded smoothly as my device quickly detected the first node. Please note that you can start setup with either node. Along the way you’re prompted to name your network and set a password. I have nearly 30 devices connected to my network so in an effort to avoid changing settings for all those devices I simply used the exact same network name and password from my old network. Trust me this is a huge timesaver. I was also prompted that a firmware update was available and it installed automatically and quite quickly. Setup was fast and painless for node 1 and then I proceeded to setting up node 2. I took this node to my second floor and connected it to power. Setup quickly detected it and added it to my network. Along the way setup also runs a quick test to determine if your placement is ideal. That was it and I was up and running in less than 20 minutes.
I should point out that after setup I was a bit disappointed by the mAX Pro app functionality which seems oddly limited and basic on features. I also was a bit surprised that while I was prompted at the beginning of setup about dealing with the gateway configuration issues and bridge mode later. Setup in fact never addressed these issues. In fact there is oddly no bridge mode setting available within the mAX Pro settings. So far I am relieved that I’ve experienced no issues so I wonder if setup actually did activate bridge mode during setup? Another thing that I find somewhat irritating is that one of the ethernet ports on each node is labeled LAC but since there is no included documentation I was left guessing what exactly this meant. Upon doing additional research I discovered that this port is for connection to modems that support speeds greater than 1Gbps. But why is this not addressed anywhere during setup? I still have no clue how to use this port.
After setup, I was next very eager to see the impact of the Arris SURFboard mAX Pro AX11000 on my network range and speed. As mentioned I was previously using a competitors 3 node wireless AC mesh system. While I have gigabit internet service I was only getting around 200 Mbps on wifi with 3 nodes. My home was formerly a commercial space and consequently has some substantial construction with thicker than average floors and walls. While network coverage throughout my house was decent using the 3 node wireless AC system I still at times experienced buffering while streaming in some more remote rooms within my home. So how did the Arris mAX Pro compare? First of all the Arris is wireless AX the latest and greatest WiFi standard but I currently own no AX compatible devices so I honestly didn’t expect much in terms of speed increases. Wow was I wrong. Upon running a bunch of speed tests I was immediately getting nearly 700 Mbps on wifi! I was thrilled. In terms of network coverage I also immediately recognized that the prior buffering issues had vanished. All this is also with an Arris 2 mode system compared to my prior 3 node system! The spec range for the mAx Pro is an impressive 6,000 square feet. It sure seems accurate to me. I am so pleased to be getting this amazing performance on wireless AC hardware so I am super pleased to be future proof as I acquire AX hardware down the road. Highly recommended.

Hello,
Just wanted to share my honest opinion with my purchase of Arris Surfboard WIFI System during the pandemic. We purchased this during a time when the education system and most jobs were moving to online work only, so the only WIFI system left on the shelves were nothing and the most expensive, like this Arris Surfboard. We needed to replace our 2015 Apple Airport & Express because it kept losing WIFI connectivity multiple times a day. Long story short...after working with Spectrum and replacing their modem 3 times, my family decided to replace the router next.
Till this day, we haven’t had any issues with WIFI connectivity . I wouldn’t have purchased this $700 system if it wasn’t the last on the shelf, but I’m so glad I did. In the future, I will remember...you get what you pay for! Mahalo to the Best Buy employee and his advice.

Both units I could not get to work and I am pretty tech savvy. I was going to trade this in for my nest pro i purchased, but it would not connect to the internet at all, so I returned it. I am on a 1gig fiber connection, with no special setup. Just straight from the modem and would not connect.

The product works great. The only small let down was that box the product came in was beat to pieces and ripped. Not sure if this was a return to BestBuy, but I think they should have given me some sort of discount by the condition of the box.
Product though works fine.

Randomly drops the Internet connection. Can't modify the DNS entries without the device locking up and requiring a reboot. Very limited ability to configure anything else. Wish I could have returned. Note that it gets five stars for ease of use but that's only because there's not much to mess up.

I had such big hope for this Arris router. I really like their cable modems. And just upgraded to S33 modem. Then, I saw Arris router on sale and thought the two of them must be awesome.
Well, not exactly. The router just wouldn’t connect to internet. I spent 50 min. with support staff. The great point, though, I connected to tech support almost immediately. But that’s where my luck run out.
For the next 50 min I was restarting the router non stop. Finally, the router connected! Then I had to pair the second tower... you guessed it... same issue.
At this point the patient tech support advised me that she needs to escalate. And that someone will call me. Well, someone from escalation tech support did call me but 7 days later! Come on! Like anyone would sit and wait with no internet for 7 days?!
I returned it after waiting for two days and got Eero Pro 6. Connected literally in 3 min. And the speed is awesome!

These were extremely easy to set up using their app. They look great. I highly recommend them, even though they are a little pricey but so worth it for their performance.
