It was easy to set up but thats where the praise ends. The range of these satellites seems to be 50 ft if I'm lucky. I regret this purchase very much.

It claims to be able to maintain the same speeds throughout your home. It had more dropouts than the system I already had. With this system, you can not chose between 2.4, 5G-1, and 5G-2. It picks out whatever it wants or thinks what is best for you. The speeds were not that great either. I was very disappointed in it especially coming from Arris. I took it back and bought the new Netgear AX12 11,000.

Went from Wifi 5 Orbi to these Wifi 6 mesh units. Work great. Pricey, but no different than other Wifi 6 Mesh systems.

Outstanding Performance, Frustrating Experience

After spending about a week with the Surfboard mAX Pro, I've come to a couple basic conclusions. 1. The setup process was unnecessarily frustrating. 2. Settings/options are unexpectedly limited. 3. The performance of this mesh network is out of this world.
Set up of this unit is handled exclusively through their mobile app. Generally, router setup via an app is a quick and painless process, but that wasn't the case here. On my first try setting up the mAX Pro, the router simply would not connect to the internet. This is a fairly common issue, but given the fact that you can modify literally zero settings through the app during setup, this left me with only the option to factory reset the router and try again. After doing this and unplugging my modem three times, the router finally connected.
Setting up the second unit proved to be equally frustrating, as it seemed to hang on the required update. After factory resetting and placing it within inches of the primary unit, it eventually connected, updated, and was online. For the first hour I was online with the mAX Pro, I saw miserable performance, to the point that I couldn't really use the internet. This brought me to the realization that there's no way to modify or even look at settings through the browser on your PC. Everything has to be done through the app, which is really unfortunate, as the there are very, very limited settings options available there. Here's what you can manually update: DNS config, LAN IP reservation, WAN IP Config, and Port Forwarding. This means that the mAX Pro is strictly a plug and play system only; those requiring specialized setup will be out of luck.
Given the annoyances outline above, I was on the verge of giving up on the mAX Pro system. Thankfully, once the initial period of unusability passed, I was left with a WiFi network that completely surpassed my expectations. The two units are on the complete opposite ends of my house, a 2200 sq ft split level. Other mesh networks I've tried here needed to be placed significantly closer, making the satellite's onboard ports basically useless. Not so here. I was able to place the secondary node in my office, where I have plugged in my work laptop and gaming desktop. The end result of this setup is that I now have full speed internet access in every square inch of my house. No other unit I've tried has come close to this.
My day to day usage includes 30 or so devices connected at any one time: phones, streaming devices, smart home devices, PCs. My main devices are my work laptop (connected to my work network over VPN), my gaming desktop, and 2 phones. Over the course of the past week, we've had zero connection issues, zero slowdowns, and zero latency issues. The connection between the routers shows a consistent 2.1 gbps, which not only far outpaces my internet connection, but also gives me a flawless home network streaming experience. My primary desktop also serves as a Plex server, serving up my local media, including 4K HDR content. I've seen no buffering or stuttering which, again, is a first from other routers and mesh networks I've tried. Unfortunately, I have no WiFi 6/AX devices at current time, so I can't comment on how well that protocol works here, but based on the fact that the two units connect via an AX backhaul, I'm confident that things are as expected here.
Overall, mAX Pro is frustratingly close to being basically perfect. The performance is better than anything else I've tried, hindered only by a maddening lack of setup options.

Setup is relatively simple and took me about 35-40 minutes including waiting for firmware updates for both nodes. In order to set up you need the app, there is no other way to access the system, what happens when the system goes down??? You trouble shoot on your own, that is what happens. I set this up in a 1930’s brick colonial with plaster walls, 3 bedrooms and a basement.
I am not extremely savvy in this department but from what I have read and experienced you won’t realize the full potential of this system. It also will not allow changing the subnet mask so you won’t be able to access local hardware while connected to a VPN. This is truly a plug and play system, if you want to tweak settings I would look elsewhere. Also, there is no way to boot someone off your system???
The system is comparable to my other system I disconnected to test this. No matter placement of the nodes, despite the app telling me the best was achieved I was never able to achieve anything close to the 4.8 backhaul, I at best achieved 2.8. The speed test in the app consistently indicated I was above 300 Mbps download and 340 Mbps upload. Only marginally better than my other system. The wireless coverage is very good. I am able to get excellent signal everywhere in my home and outside in my backyard, which is where I need it. The app is simple and like I said think plug and play versus being able to tweak the system.
To test the system and speed I viewed the same movie from a streaming service on 3 of my connected devices. Two were on the satellite node and one on the main node. There was no lag or other problems while viewing the movie. I was also surfing the net at the same time and no lag or slow down. I was surprised since you are also not able to prioritize any devices.
All in all this delivers in its promise of speed and connectivity but for the price there are better options. Also for the price I wouldn't recommend based on other systems.

Mesh is the FUTURE

Overview: This new Mesh wifi system obliterates any router / extender I have ever used. I only have 1 network for my entire home now, instead of Home 2.4 / Home 5 / Home EXT 2.4 / Home EXT 5 / Home Guest and so forth. The automation going on within the mesh system is seamless. Wherever I am go in my home, the router places my devices on the strongest connection, automatically. When it comes to having a "smart" home, this is exactly how I expect devices to work. The routers or "nodes" as they are called, are fairly large and modern and sleek looking. A guest actually thought our node in the living rooms an Alexa because of the blue glowing ring.
I am getting about 350mb/s using this system, regardless of where I am in my home, even from outside into my backyard! The nodes seems to run very cool, no overheating. The main node (router) has to be hardwired to a modem, but the other node in the house only needs a power cable.
Setup:
Setting the system up was the easiest experience ever. You need a smart device that can download the mAX Arris smart app to setup. Just follow the super easy instructions and I was up in running in less than 10 minutes of disconnecting my old router.
**Make sure you have wireless reception on your phone when setting up** There is a registration process that requires some sort of connection to complete set up. It's a small flaw during set up if you are in an area with bad service (like in your basement)

An intro mesh system for novices

I received this as part of a testing group.
With all of the devices (~25) on our network I have been wanting to setup a mesh network for awhile. We were using an Asus RT-AC3100 router and it working well. But we have a TV and a printer in our lower level that would drop off the network occasionally, even with the extender I had purchased.
There are no instructions included in the box. Just a note saying that you need to install the app on your phone (Android or iOS) to setup the network. Installing the main hub was easy and I had that running in about 5 minutes. The satellite unit was harder to place. I kept moving it around the lower level and was just about to give up when it worked in the back corner by a window.
There will only be one name on your network (no 5Ghz or EXT) as the devices will connect to whatever unit is the best signal.
The main unit has 1 WAN and 3 LAN (one of these labeled LAC – Link Aggregation Control). The satellite unit will be 4 LAN. You will only use LAC if you network is over 1Gbps (2Gbps preferred).
Most devices easily connected to the network. Google Home was a little picky but it finally connected. Because it is an automated network you cannot select a lower speed for devices that don’t operate on 5Ghz; i.e. smart light bulbs. I didn’t test that but we have been thinking about some smart bulbs.
If you are a network novice and want something fast and easy, I would recommend this router. But I suggest internet speeds of 300Mbps and up. The advanced user will not be happy with this lack of user control and customization.
We have been having some TV issues with this setup. It is slow when opening apps on the TV and sometimes we wait up to 30 seconds for the program to start (with a black screen). We never had this problem before. And it is with all of the apps. I setup a system to record TV from my antenna as well and it has been interrupted a few times. It might have been that an auto update was processing from the router – it has no manual option. All of my other devices are manual update for that reason.
Pros:
Guest Network Capability
Speed is very good but little improvement over my previous router
Kept my Alexa TV controls (which were a pain to setup)
Cons:
No advance settings
Must use app – no web interface
No wi-fi pairing button
Auto Update – no manual control
No customized LAN IP address
Too few LAN ports – had to use a hub

The ARRIS - SURFboard mAX Pro Wireless-AX11000 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6 System is top notch from what I can tell so far. The speed, coverage, stability and ease of set up are exceptional.
I had been using a tri-band mesh system previously but it took 4 nodes to do what this one can do with two.
From the box opening experience to the looks of the system when I took it out, it’s impressive.
The speed between the two nodes is running from 1.8 to 2 Gbps. I am getting 650 Mbps from the unit downstairs to my iPhone 8 Plus and I would probably get a lot more with an iPhone 11 if I had one.
The nodes have a rather large footprint but look impressive none the less.
This WiFi system would be great for gaming. I noticed an big improvement in bringing up my doorbell videos and other live feeds on cameras over my previous mesh WiFi system so the latency has been greatly improved.
This system also is a Wifi 6 system which is 802.11ax. This will eventually allow gigabit speeds throughout the house I am told without wires.
The only negative is for those who want to be able to access a browser settings menu with more configuration possibilities. Right now that is not available since only settings can be changed with the SURFboard mAX app.
Overall great system.

I have been seeking an AX router for a while now. I first tried the Netgear RAX200. It worked OK, but wouldn't give me my full internet bandwidth on the wired ports so I returned it. When the opportunity arose to give Arris SURFboard mAX a try I thought it sounded pretty great. And it was. For less than a day.
The SURFboard mAX modules are relatively compact cylinders and each offers 4 wired gigabit LAN ports at the bottom. Setup is pretty simple via the app which is available for both iOS and Android. I should point out that this system can ONLY be accessed through the app. There is no web based portal. While I was disappointed to see that it wasn't a deal breaker. Got the system setup in less than 5 minutes with the one module upstairs and the other in the basement approximately 25' away.
Performance initially was incredible. I saw speeds in the basement I had never seen before. Using an AX adapter on a desktop PC in my son's room we saw speeds right up to the limit of our ISP service (over 500mbps). My son has NEVER seen speeds like that in his room coupled with the lower latency he was ecstatic. Coverage in the house was excellent and with 30+ devices on the network it everything seemed to be humming right along. And then, it wasn't.
After a couple hours overall service started to get spotty. Devices would randomly drop off the network. Speeds would plummet. The devices would reboot randomly. Tried resetting several times and service remained spotty. This is using the latest firmware so there isn't really much else that can be done. It truly is unfortunate because when it works, it works very well. The lack of consistent performance however meant that the network was disbanded after two days of listening to my kids yell at me.
I believe Arris is on to something, but they need to sort out their software first. Until then, I simply can't recommend it.

Didn’t work. When returned to bestbuy their computer marked it for trashbin instead of shipping it out someplace.
I called company and they said that the second unit not working was a known issue and maybe sometime in future they would get it working with software update.
