very fast cable modem; compact, elegant enclosure
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Motorola/Arris SURFboard SB6183 to replace my Motorola SURFboard SB6141. I upgraded to the 300Mbps cable internet service from Time Warner and found that, while the SB6141 claims up to 343 Mbps, Time Warner only supports 100 Mbps service through it. The options for cable modems supported at the higher bandwidth were only the SB6183 and the Netgear C6300, which includes an integrated WIFI router. I had liked the compact enclosure of the SB6141, and, although larger, the SB6183 is still a compact, elegant component. I hadn't planned on replacing my WIFI router, so the SB6183 was the clear winner over the C6300, which had some sketchy reviews online. And Best Buy had the best price on the internet, even lower than Amazon. When I installed the SB6183 and activated it with Time Warner, I got a big surprise: my bandwidth decreased! I contacted customer support at Arris, and they were very helpful in stepping me through the diagnostics to determine that the SB6183 was connecting fine to the outside internet. And Time Warner assured me that the connection to the cable modem was fast. So I concluded that I needed to upgrade my old D-Link DIR 655. There is still some mystery there because the performance degradation was over wired ethernet; I expected only to be Gbps limited. And the D-Link customer service was non-existent; they offered only consulting service on an hourly fee basis. Anyway, once I replaced the DIR 655 with a Netgear R7000 WIFI router, I got the bigger bandwidth I expected inside my LAN. The C6300 combo would have been cheaper overall than the SB6183 plus the R7000, but I like the independence of the devices and the ability to choose whatever router I like.

fast and easy to setup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We got tired of Time Warner's shenanigans charging the service fee for a modem rental. This Motorola has performed smoothly, was easy to set up and is fast. We just called into customer service with the MAC code and it was set up. Great modem! The ISP sucks though but there aren't many choices in our part of LA and therein lies the moral of the story.

Great modem!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Recently moved and decided to purchase my own modem instead of renting from my ISP. This little guy works perfectly with my Xfinity connection. Installation was very straightforward following the provided guide (never actually set a modem up before). Currently have it mated with the current generation Apple Airport Extreme with fantastic results.

High Speed & Updated Web Interface
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent speed, configured with Comcast online with no hassle whatsoever (and no need to call customer support). The web interface built into this unit is much better than the previous SURFboard models. I'm very happy with the purchase. The only downside is that the LEDs on the front of this thing are quite bright and can light up a dark room.

Very happy with it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was paying the Comcast rental modem fee of $10/month, so I wanted to buy one and save money. This one was so easy to set up - plug it in, open a browser on any device, follow instructions. The only complaint I could possibly make is that it puts off a lot of light. This isn't a problem for me, but it might be if you had it in your bedroom.

Easy to install and use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This cable modem was really easy to install. Just plug in the cable, network (connected to my router), and power. It's really fast. I average 125Mb/s on Comcast. It's not without some issues, however: 1. I was hoping to be able to connect to the modem with a browser to view configuration and statistics but am not able to do so. 2. Any configuration change (e.g. what device is connected to the network port) requires the device to be power cycled. 3. There is no power button or switch so a reboot requires removing and reinserting the power cord. With that said, the product does what it says it will do and does it well.

Excellent Product -- FAST
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed to upgrade my cable modem in order to reach 100 mbps. This modem was easy to set up and I consistently get 110+ mbps download and 11 mbps upload speeds. Rated to over 300 mbps, but I have not tested it at those speeds. Some reviewers noted that their speed decreases over time. Mine has not and I have only rebooted the system once in two months. This seems like an excellent product, but it is still pretty new.

Flawless
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you dont have a need for voice service through your cable provider, this is the device for you. Supports Blast from Xfinity and works with every router on the market. Set up and activation was quick and painless. The device is small and rock solid in the design and performance.

Stop renting and surf faster
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great modem to replace those offered for rental from the ISPs. It is compliant with DOCSIS 3 and is capable of 16 channel bonding, so it is ready for top speed tiers. I replaced another Motorola product with this one. Even though I don't pay for the higher speeds, my connection has been faster with the new modem. As always, Motorola cable modems are rock steady and reliable, and this one has been no different.

Great modem!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this modem to replace one i was renting from my cable company. I got disconnected alot and speeds were very sluggish, about 10-15mpbs on a 50mbs plan. MY speeds run around 35mbs now and have not had to reset yet having used in for about 3 weeks. Before I would have to reset once or twice a week. Very happy with this purchase!

Simple and Efficient
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A regular modem. Nothing particularly special about this one, so far it has been reliable and has not posed a problem. Unless you're doing super high tech things that require a modem with higher broadband capacity this is basically good enough for any household with one or two, maybe three, people in it. Set up was easy and fast. No complaints for the money spent.

Good Unit
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, a very good unit. I use Comcast Blast, so I purchased this to get the higher speed. Works as advertised and I'm getting full Blast speeds now with this unit. It took a little while for the Comcast tech to update their system to get me going (30 min), but once he remembered how to do it correctly (he had to repeat the process twice and reboot his own system) everything came up and has been working ever since.

Latest & Greatest
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Keyword to this purchase decision, is "futureproof". In about a year, this box pays for itself, and is all gravy after that. With 686 Mbps maximum download capability, I imagine I will get much more than a year's use out of it. I've had inferior cable modems provided by my ISP in the past, and know what a hassle that can be with dropped service and difficulties. Don't have to worry about that anymore either.

Fast, affordable cable modem
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this for my father and brother's house, so they would not have to pay a rental fee for the cable company's garbage cable modem that they were using. This modem allows them to take full advantage of their internet speed, and they said they have had zero issues since they installed it well over one year ago. I would definitely recommend.

Does the job
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We're on Time Warner and am currently getting 200mbps down and at least 20mbps up. Easy to setup, just took forever to get things going with Time Warner. Now we're not paying that monthly fee to rent. FYI, if you have telephone through Time Warner, you'll still need to keep the original router/modem that they provide in order to continue your phone service. They will still remove the equipment fee from your bill.
