My 5 year old Motorola 6120 went bad last week and after having the Cox technician in my house I Ask him between the 6141 and the 6183 what will be best and he told me for $30 more I would go for the other one and you should be good for the next 4 or 5 years even if we keep upgrading. We recently got 100 Mbps downstream upgrade here in Ladera Ranch so as you can see in the picture I'm getting on my Pc 110 to 120 Mbps downstream and 5 to 10 upload. My Laptop gets 75 Mbps down and 5 upload, he told me according to our plan I should have 8 channels down and 4 up and this one has 16 down so I'm good. All you have to do is plug the cables and call your cable company to give them the MAC address of your modem and serial number I was ready in about 15 minutes to surf the net We have 3 computers including one iMac, 3 cells, 1 iPod, 1 iPad, 1 media player, game console and 3 blu ray players hook to the wall and streaming Netflix and no problem whatsoever on any device. My only concern is if you check on the picture this modem gets very hot 103F towards the back on any given day just browsing and doing our usual stuff is on my closet but is well ventilated, my older one didn't get hot at all compare with this guy but maybe is normal. I turn off at night modem and router since both are plug to an outlet surge protector just in case. Cox tech told me don't turn off the modem and always leave it on, just turn off the router if you want to stop the internet but I don't see the need for it if I'm not using the internet and all our devices are off. Specially since this little guy is like a big hot blue disco ball with those bright blue led lights, is insane you can see that on the picture as well I wished they would give an option to dim the lights at least at night it would be good I can't imagine someone having this on their room. Another good thing is you can check on your browser the status of your modem with lots of info in regard to all the channels plus product info, event logs, addresses and configuration so it has plenty of information in case something goes wrong. So far I'm very happy everything is good in case you wonder my router is a 4 year old Netgear WNDR3800 running strong too. Hope this review helps anyone who is looking into this modem. Big thanks to the Best Buy employees for helping me find this guy since the closest one to my house didn't have any, they check on their computers and told me to go to the one in Irvine who had one left and I got it. This one is selling like hot bread so always ask if they don't have any in stock. Only giving 4 stars because of the lights and heat.

Matched up with a new Linksys AC4000 router.

When paired with the Linksys AC4000 Wi-Fi Tri-Band Router I get very fast reliable Wi-Fi Coverage. I was really in the dark ages and never knew it, I had a 10 year old motorola SB5101 cable modem capable of only 30 Mbps, It is like myself getting old it sneaks up on you,I got a ring doorbell , then a 4K smart TV ,I have a 17 inch laptop, grandkids streaming youtube and just kept adding to the wifi load. The old modem and router just could not handle the load anymore. At one time I had check my speed and it was 15 Mbps download 5 Mbps upload and things were good but then I was having to reboot the modem all the time and it was showing 5 to 8 Mbps download 4 Mbps upload. The new router really helped then 30 Mbps down 7 Mbps upload and then came the ARRIS SURFboard SB6183 Cable Modem and now get 51 Mbps and 13 Mbps on the (2.4GHz)side. I know there are users that got better results than I but without increasing Spectrum cable speed but I am happy and have had no problems now for two months and note it is a small package and does not take up much space. The ARRIS SURFboard SB6183 was easy to get up and running , calling Spectrum went smoothly believe it or not... I have nothing but good things to say about the SB6183 modem. Performance is good and reliability is top notch. My (Spectrum cable) speed is (up to 100) Mbps download... I called ARRIS at (1 877 466 8646) the night before the install and ask a frew questions and they was like talking to family. If you have the highest speed cable you should check out the ARRIS SURFboard (SB6190 ) Cable Modem to be more future proof. From what I understand the 6183 has (Channel Bonding) 16 downstream / 4 channels upstream is the minimum that I should have with (Spectrum cable). The ARRIS SURFboard (SB6190 ) has channels called (Channel Bonding) 32 x 8. Thanks for taking the time to read my review... Campjeep

After searching high and low for months for this modem I finally found it at an awesome price at Best buy. I'm glad I bought it I have been paying for ultimate speed but only getting 100mbps because I was being limited by my old Arris/Motorola 6141. I called up Time Warner and activated it but it took the technician a few tries to get it right. Approximately an hour more or so. This modem is different from the 6141 the internet activity indicator is located in the back of the router where you plug in the ethernet cable. This is vital to know because I assumed that it wasn't set up properly but it was. All the front icons should be solid the top and bottom icon are white and the two middle are a steady blue. None of the icons shouldn't blink once connected but my main issue was with my Belkin N600DB it was limiting my upload speed drastically. After sometime I realized that it didn't support the ultimate speed that TWC is giving me. I was still getting around 90mbps which was my old ultimate 100 speed. So I needed a router with gigabit support and this router wasn't cutting it. I purchased an Asus RT-AC68P and it fixed all of my problems after some configuration and change of wireless settings. I spent much longer on this than I should have if I had done just a bit more research it would have been an easy set up. I'm not complaining by any means but I am overall happy with my purchase. I'll break in my new devices tomorrow with my PS4 and some Netflix streaming. If you want the best speed TWC currently offers in NY then do yourself a favor and pick this modem up. I also purchased a geek squad warranty in case it goes bad then I'm covered.

Related details in my review of netgear stealth ac1900 router. Just switched over from centurylink DSL to Comcast so needed a new Docsis modem. Looked at the comcast recommended list and other reviews. Both were positive about Arris which were formerly Motorola. I went with this Docsis 2 modem for a few reasons. 1. The faster Docsis3 units have a chipset with a known bug. 2. Docsis2 is more than fast enough for my 55Mbps plan. If you are subscribing to a faster service tier consider a faster Docsis3 model. And 3. I'm only using it for internet so voice features not needed. This setup was so easy when I called Comcast to activate it the tech said "you don't need me are already setup!". So- easy setup, delivering 65Mbps test speeds, compact package, good price. One minor gripe is the laser beam bright indicator leds. It would be nice if they offered user control of indicators like the Netgear ac1900 router does. Overall that's pretty minor considering everthing else just works great. Highly recommended CC

I had purchased the Arris Modem SB6141 before Xmas. Week later noticed the Arris Modem SB6183 was on sale and I had just received $10 in Rewards money and paid extra $4 for a lot more modem. The SB6141 is a good modem, but the indicator lights are bright. The SB6183 is double the speed, 16x4, ECO setting on Ethernet, can shut off all lights except the power button. Modem was very easy to setup with my IP Comcast/Xfinity. Pay attention to this to avoid issues with Comcast/Xfinity Revenue Assurance and Billing Dept. by buying modems and routers only from Best Buy for services with Comcast/Xfinity. If you buy a 3rd party modem you will be billed a $10+tax monthly equipment fee. You will most likely get the charge removed, but best to avoid the hassle and buy equipment from Best Buy.

I have to thank Johnnyboy84 for pointing out the awesomeness of this modem on his product's review. I have TWC internet of 300 mbps and was only getting 60 mbps with their leased Arris DG1670A Modem/router combo. I was impressed with Johnnyboy84's speedtest and decided that I should give it a try. I did quite a bit of research and ended up buying the same router as he did, Asus RT-AC68P, and this modem. My results can be proven. It was an easy set up. I had to call TWC to activate the modem and had it up and running in 11 minutes. This is an amazing combination and am extremely happy. I will also be hooking this baby up to my PS4.

After years of throwing away money on modem-rental, I finally bought my own some years ago -- wise decision! This is my 3rd Motorola upgrade; I've had great success with every Motorola modem thus far, and this one is no exception. Small and compact (almost too lightweight for stability), the white modem is surprisingly attractive and un-office-machine-looking. It also pays to go to the trouble of buying and installing separate modem and router units rather than a combination-unit. Performance will be stronger, if one should break, you still have partial functioning... and I've heard horror-stories about set-up and performance-issues with the combined-units. Set-up of the Surfboard is simple and straightforward. Do be aware that if you are adding a modem to share your cable-TV hookup, you may need a splitter (I bought the Rocketfish™ RF-G1307 2-way coaxial splitter from Best Buy, which works great) and an extra coaxial cable. As other reviewers have noted, the blue lights on this unit are bright; personally, I rather like them. ;-)

    Replacement for Comcast Modem

Purchased to save money on Comcast monthly bill. When you are paying for the internet and TV from the ISP provider, you are also paying to lease their equipment. The router/modem provided by them adds extra cost in leasing fees each month. You are already paying a lot for TV and internet so leasing fees add more each month. If you search up the leasing fees for each month of rental, you will see it increases each year and definitely adds up to the total cost over time. I can save like $10 dollars each month by buying my own modem and router. It may not seem much to some people, but over time the cost of leasing or rental adds up. Besides, the modem doesn't really need an upgrade often, just make sure to make a purchase on product that supports the internet speed you purchased from the ISP. Depending on your needs or configurations, having the modem and router separate can help you in choosing the location or area that gives the best wifi coverage possible. Having a combined modem/router limits the ability to upgrade if you decide for higher speeds and need to purchase a router that can support the speeds. This product was easy to set up. You just need a router to pair with it. There are many inexpensive routers to meet that need. The size of the device is a plus since the connection is inside the wall and I need to fit the device in the container. It only has one Ethernet connection, so having the router or getting a switch can provide the extra Ethernet connections. The online interface for options is basic, therefore, there isn't much to configure. It is just plug and play. Depending the firmware version on the device, there could be an option to restart or reboot from the online interface, but in my case I needed to remove the power connection to reboot the modem. There isn't a button on the device to do so.

My first SURFboard SB6183 was a dud. Tinkered with it for a day or so and I just couldn't get a consistent signal. Decided to call Arris Tech Support before returning it and the agent spent over 4 hours with me on trying various troubleshooting steps before deciding it really was a dud. Returned the unit to Best Buy and tried another unit. This one worked. I chose this unit due to the fact that while I have one of Comcast's higher tier internet speeds but not really enough to take full advantage of it. The real reason why is that in my area Comcast has 16 bonded downstream channels; this modem has 16 channels at its disposal. Most other DOCSIS 3.0 modems have 8 channels. What this translates to is that my 105Mbps plan is averaging around 125Mbps. Does this mean that if you run out and buy this modem you're going to get an automatic 10% speed increase? Not necessarily. Lots of things play into your network speed, but if you're in an area in which Comcast supports 16 bonded channels then I would recommend the SB6183 over it's younger brethren. The unit is white so it does clash with my all black network and home theater equipment which is a bummer, but if color isn't a deal breaker, nor should it be in this case, the Arris is an excellent purchase and well worth the price of admission. Tech support was excellent and knowledgeable by which I was pleasantly surprised by. Overall, the modem has been in use for about 2 months and I would highly recommend it.

It's true, it is a great working Modem, and it does run hot, but haven't had any issues yet.... Had for 1 month. Upgraded to this after modem/router combo wasn't delivering. Switched to separate Modem/Router. Takes up a little more space, but I think it is worth it. Biggest complaint it with the cable company (Cox), took them a while to get it activated from their end. Actually at first they said it was defective because they couldn't detect it, had 2 cable reps try to activate it, the second said it was defective. I returned the modem and tried again the second night. They seemed to have the same problem and I told them I really doubted I was so lucky as to buy 2 defective modems in a row. It took them longer than I would have thought but they did get it activated. Sorry not sure what exactly they had to do. I get the full speed of my internet which is only 150 mbs maybe a little more if connected via ethernet cable, didn't want to chance the 300 as that's what my last netgear modem/router combo was rated for.

    Real Increase in Bandwidth Speeds

My home internet setup: ISP Comcast Extreme 150 Internet service, w/Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Smart Wi-Fi Router (R7000) on 5G network and I was previously using a Netgear Model: CMD31T modem. We have on average about 14 devices connected to the router and the mobile/tablet devices were very slow to load FB, videos, ect. It drove me crazy. On my desktop I would avg about 80-90 mb/s down, about 20 mb/s up. And the speeds were always inconsistent throughout the day. Since activating this new Arris modem I've almost doubled the bandwidth output. See the screenshots for yourself. All devices are faster from desktop to iphone. Even my iPhone speed test scored a 115 mb/s down and 24 mb/s up. The Netgear modem was obviously creating the bottleneck, not that it's a bad modem, it's just an older model. I'm not a network guy but seeing is believing. Installation was plug it in, call Comcast with MAC address, plug the router back in and I was done. If you depend on internet speed, this was definitely a great network upgrade.

I use the internet extensively between online school, developing websites for a site business, gaming online through Steam and also moderating a friends Twitch stream. I was having lag issues to no end with my previous all in one I purchased from Best Buy. It was not their fault and I wanted an all one thinking hey everything is together and it will work the way I want it. I was wrong because of so much that I do I caused the combo unit to hiccup and cause issues. I decided to spend this amount once and purchase a gaming designed router and this cable modem which has 16 channels for downloading and 4 for uploading. The best thing about this modem is (after Comcast added it) I did a recent speed test with streaming music from my google play music, streaming a friend's stream as well as downloading 3GB update to a game on my Steam account. I got the best connection and download speeds I ever saw. This product is amazing and the service from Best Buy was top notch.

I have owned a surfboard modem since 2006 when I got high speed internet from Insight Communications in college. That modem still works but does not offer the newer high speeds that are offered by Time Warner Cable and Comcast, etc so it was time to upgrade. I decided on this modem because of the reviews, brand, and price. I have owned it for several months now and it delivers what it promised. Also, definitely cheaper in the long run than renting a modem every month from your cable company. That $5+ a month adds up so go buy your own modem and spend it on something else. I recommend this one over the SB6141 because of the possible higher speeds down the road and the indicator lights on this one will not blind you like the SB6141 lights will.

Purchased nearly 2 months ago and still running fine. Used for 100Mbit Xfinity service in Northern California. Works well and I received the speed that I paid for (at least according to Speedtest.net test). Simple to setup, though did have to reset my router to factory new setting so it could mimic modem settings. Arris has higher speed modems, but since I wasn’t ordering near gigabit speeds, saved some money by purchasing modem that meets my lower speed needs. Little upsetting that Best Buy overcharged me on sales tax, but modem works great.

Really not much to write. Very easy setup: Coax from Time Warner on one port, Laptop or PC via Ethernet on the other port. Called Time Warner Tech Support to switch to new cable modem, gave them the MAC address and up and running in 10 minutes. Handles the advertised speed. After confirming Internet connectivity connected wireless router on Ethernet port and all works fine. A lot better deal to buy a cable modem once (for $60 to $100, depending on the modem) than to lease the TW box for $10 every month. The funny thing is: you keep the TW modem at no charge in a split configuration if you have a land line. So best of both.
