We bought this so we didn't have to pay the cable company their modem rental fee. I'm fairly skilled in the IT world so managing my home network with my own equipment is easy for me. Even with that said buy this modem. Its compatible with most cable companies. Its on Comcast preferred list also. I simply came home, plugged it in and it self registered. You may have to call them but I didn't have to. It has been rock solid. I forget its even there. Which is how your cable modem is suppose to work.

This modem is extremely reliable and sufficiently fast. Better chipset than some of the gigabit models. Easy setup too. I’m using this for a short term rental with a lot of remote work happening. Everyone has reported excellent connectivity this far. It is nice knowing it will not need regular babysitting to maintain the connection.

Works with Optimum Online (Long Island)

I called up Optimum tech support to confirm that this would work with their system and the rep stated that it should. He emailed me instructions on how to set it up solo (I already had my service installed, so this was replacing my "rental unit"). Pretty much took me 30 minutes to get everything running back in proper order (mostly because I haven't used a DOCSIS modem before).
Note the following:
1. this is modem with ethernet out ONLY, so if you connect to your existing box for your phones this will not work for you.
2. This has 16 downstream channel and 4 upstream channels. The standard Arris modem that comes with Optimum has 8/4 channels. My house has a ton of internet usage, and we signed up with the 100/35 Mb/s service (I previously had Fios 75/35 service.
As you can see from the Ookla Speedtest results, the difference in speed is negligible. I do not foresee signing up with service higher than 200mb/s anytime in the next 24 months so I did not see a reason to go with a "faster" modem.
I paid under $70 for this on sale at BB. As such, my payback will be 7 months and likely well worth the money.

Easy to activate and speeds are very good. Unit gets warm on top but not hot. Lights are very bright but you can log in into modem and either change color or turn off all but power light.

A Top Speed Modem

Fast speed, compact size, easy set-up. I was using a Comcast modem/router which was slow and almost useless, before this purchase. My download speeds have now increased more than 30% and the modem was very easy to set-up and start using. It's small size and remote power supply are also a big plus. The Comcast modem would run hot and need a reset, not this baby, also buying your own will save you $10 per month. If you need a new Docsis 3.0 modem this is the one to purchase.

More than enough capacity and excellent modem

Most people way over estimate how much bandwidth that they need to stream. We have the minimum package from our ISP (25Mbps-which may have also been recently upgraded to 50Mbps by them) and are able to stream 4K to our primary TV, HD to our secondary TV and gaming/streaming to 4 cell phones/tablets/pcs simultaneously. (Way too much multi-screening if you ask me!) Why overpay for a service and a modem when you do not need it?
We just bought this modem to replace our previous one (similar model) which started to die after a recent upgrade from our ISP. It was easy to setup (the only pain is with the ISP) and has performed great! It has more than enough capacity for what you actually need!

This thing is super easy to set up and works flawlessly. I recently bought a negrear dual modem that was supposedly top notch but it didn’t work out. The arris surfboard was super quick to connect to our xfinity internet. Didn’t have to call or speak with anyone—just followed the steps and got it done. Really happy with the product.

Save yourself $10 a month in rental fees from Comcast while upgrading your modem. This one is super fast and very easy to st up. Just hook it up and call your cable company with the info listed on the box and you are up and running in minutes. It doesn't get as hot as my old modem. The lights are very bright, which can be annoying if it is in the bedroom, but you can put a piece of black tape over the glass led display to solve the problem.

I bought this to replace my cable company router/modem combo. It was easy to setup and configure. Doesn’t generate nearly as much heat as their device so hasn’t required resets since I installed 6 weeks ago. Solid and reliable with max download for my service speeds (300 mb service, getting 360-380 downloads according to Speedtest. 25 mb uploads).

This modem packs a lot of punch for such a small device. I purchased this modem to replace the cable company's wimpy modem. I was amazed at how quickly it negotiated the connection with TWC - much faster than the one it replaced. Not only was this one a unobtrusive size, it was capable of reaching faster speeds. The modem is small and the white case blends in well, yet is not the same old boring black that most other devices are.

Arris has always been a good product in my opinion. The Arris SB6183 is no exception. Installation was easy, set up was fast and performance is outstanding with regard to connection, bandwidth and signal strength. Novice's should read the installation guide and have an understanding of the terminology and nature of network devices before installation in order not to have issues in the set up process.

This is the second purchase of this brand of modem. Moved the earlier model to another home after several years of use...started up like a champ. This model, offering faster speeds, is quick to install and easy to get running. I have never had a problem with a Motorola modem...I have upgraded as they improve, but all have worked flawlessly.

It looked larger than the SB model directly under this one on the box, however I was surprised by how compact it was. I actually think it might be smaller than the standard SB's. Speed and performance so far are great. I pay for 105mbps with Xfinity and I am seeing 113mbps in Internet speed tests. Upload speed in the mid twenties too. This router is capable of much more than I need it to do but works perfectly. good investment.

This is a great modem to use if your ISP lets you provide your own. I believe it's the fasted cable modem currently available. Not much to report other than it just works. My one gripe though is that the blue LED lights on it are extremely bright, at night it lights up the entire floor under my desk. I'm thinking about covering the modem with something to reduce all the light it makes. Great modem otherwise, very fast and reliable.

This cable modem was easy to set up and is working reliably. The channel bonding technology enables the modem to handle high speed connections. I like the status lights that also indicate whether the connection speed is high. This can be useful to help diagnose problems. And the webmanager interface allows you to check the status of the modem. I have only had the modem for 1 month.

High quality, fast performance and easy setup. Replaced cable company modems for a fraction of the cost. Not for use on landlines though. Simple to use existing cable modem for phone and this one for data. Cable company will help you do that.
Great BestBuy price.
