My wife and I have seven children. Six are old enough to enjoy connected devices. This summer, with everyone home and online, it seemed our 8 channel modem was bogging down and in need of reboot every couple of days. So, I went big and purchased this 32 channel 3.1 modem. So far so good. After a month it has yet to need rebooting and internet speeds seem consistently faster and more stable (if not perfect) when everyone is online. I'm an Xfinity customer and I did need to call customer service inorder to activate the modem. The packaging seemed to suggest that I might be able to avoid calling them (always a plus), but in the end it was unavoidable and really not that bad. Overall, product feels heavy duty, is supposedly future proof and gets the job done. Is it better than 3.0 modems going for half the price? I can't say. But it is working great and being an early adopter, at least I can feel secure knowing that should anything go wrong, I can call customer support and complain loudly about my dissapointment with their highest end product and maybe expect some movement. :-) Thankfully, so far no need to make that call.

I bought this cable modem after upgrading from 200Mbps to 400Mbps service. With the old modem I was renting from Optimum I barely cleared 200 and they confirmed that I needed a newer one for the higher speeds. They sent me a new one overnight at no cost, but I had been wanting to buy my own anyway to avoid the modem rental fee. Assuming no premature failure, I'll break even after just over 1 yr since rental was $10/month. No regrets.
The manual setup to enable the new modem on the Optimum network and connect it to my account was fairly painless. I did have to upgrade my router as well because it was another bottleneck, limiting me to just over 300Mbps even with the new modem. But with the new router and new modem in place, I get around 420Mbps download speeds as advertised and the connection has been stable for over a month.
Optimum makes it difficult to be confident that a cable modem you buy will work on their service. They list only 3 or 4 compatible modems on their website and all were Arris Touchstone models that seem not commonly sold direct to consumers. I only found refurb models for sale of the higher end one that I needed. Most Arris SurfBoard, Netgear, etc cable modems print on the packaging which providers they are compatible with, but I found zero online or in store that officially state they work with Optimum. I'm sure Optimum would rather you pay to rent them anyway. The Best Buy rep in store was aware of 2 others that work with Optimum, but even they didn't know that this one also does.

Purchased this modem due to my old one being unsupported by Cox Cable. This one is fast. Easy to set up and works well with my Cox Services. So far, I can't complain.

Easily installed with my ISP. Fast speeds, rock solid connectivity.
It feels very warm to the touch, but so far it has performed flawlessly since installation.

I purchased this to replace another Arris SURFboard modem. The replacement was not due to the previous version breaking but purchased faster internet.
This unfortunately was sold out and I had to purchase a Netgear version first. I could not return the Netgear fast enough.
Arris is far superior in speed, reliability, and price. I'll never get another brand of modem.
Also, the old one made its way over to my parents and still ticking strong.

Take in count this is DOCSIS 3.1, you will need this only if you have a gigabit plan, for lower download speeds a DOCSIS 3.0 will suffice
If you have a plan lower than 1Gbps this won’t give you faster download speeds. Check with your provider before buying
Also, this has 2 Ethernet connections, if you want wifi you will need to buy a separate router
Pros:
Save on modem rental fees
Easy to set up (just call your internet provider and give the MAC address clearly printed in the unit)
Good quality
Performs as intended
Cons:
None so far

I've been using this modem for over 1 year. The initial setup was easy. An additional ethernet port for a second IP address (from the internet provider) is avaiable if necessary. Fast, troublefree modem. Clear instructions from Arris on accessing modem settings via the modem app.
Great Modem, Affordable Cost - Room for expandabil

Been using several Arris modems for years, they are of great quality, though would be great have they are build of better plastic and have black color too. If you have Gigabit speed internet, SB8200 or and modem with DOCSIS 3.1 is a must, otherwise, your ISP may not like it and you may not get the speed worth. This modem squeeze out as much as it can from my ISP and speed is great even during high traffic hours. Make sure to check with your ISP that the modem is compatible with your Gigabit speed. If you have anything else lower, this modem is unnecessary overkill unless you want a future proof product.

I bought this modem last night to use with my spectrum 400mbps internet. I am writing this review to let those who like me are wondering if it works with spectrum. Yes, it does works but it does not configures itself with the spectrum network automatically. you must call customer service to have it activated. The modem has two network ports, and each port needs a separate IP address per Arris customer service. Spectrum only provided one IP address, so I will have to call ask for a second IP address if want to use the second port. After installation I upgraded my internet to 1 gig, and now I have a super fast internet connection and this modem is working great. I also had to reset my router because it had the old IP address registered and it was only pouring out 400mbps after I upgraded my internet. My existing router is a Linksys MR900 and it work good wit the Arris SB200.

Overall, this is a great modem, it seems to work well with no drops and connection. I like that it is 32x8 and DOCSIS 3.1. Dis modem is pretty much future proof for the next five years or so it works great. Does not get too hot in use. Modems are items that seem to age quickly especially with the new technology coming out but modems will last a long time, especially if you get one that is up-to-date with the latest features.

If you have or are getting high speed Internet through your cable company soon, this is the modem offering future-proof performance for a few years,
By high-speed, I mean 400mbps up to 1GB of speed, this modem is the best of which I am aware.
To be clear, I am not aware of ANY cable Internet providers that have activated all the capabilities built into this next-gen DOCSIS 3.1 modem. If you own your modem, then it is your cable company that runs it and has control of it, as far as internal firmware and settings are concerned.
Owning it means you have the opportunity to have a better piece of hardware than what any cable company will provide.
Remember that THIS is a modem ONLY, not a combo device with built-in wireless (Wi-Fi). That is an additional piece of hardware.
If you are not using a lot of bandwidth and have no idea what this is, you probably do not want, and certainly do not need this modem.
I love the performance and traditional reliability of this brand, not that others are not as good or nearly as good. I've had good success with the brand.

I like it because I don't have to pay the cable co. For a modem.. It has a great velocity. No problems with it. It was easy to connect. It gives me fast internet connection.

Simple installation, very fast throughput speeds on 600mbps Xfinity service. Auto-switching 3.0 and 3.1 depending on equipment attached and speeds available. Very happy with purchase. The only issue encountered during installation was not related to this modem. The previous owners did not cancel their internet service, so Xfinity had to cancel, adding a day for forced cancellation to upload. Once my internet service was available at the house, install was very quick and easy. Highly recommended.

I've purchased this modem and the netgear cm1000. I fully tested them both in all things important. The arris came out on top in my book. The arris sb6190 was a train wreck of a modem and put a dent in the arris reputation, but don't let that hinder you. Netgear had the cm700 too. Puma 6 was a fail. Still no fix. Arris was even able to acquire a lawsuit over this. Anyway the sb8200 was originally thought to contain a puma 7 chipset. Neither the cm1000 or the sb8200 thankfully gone down that road. We're back on Broadcom with a bcm3390. This thing is solid. During tests I've recorded 2ms decrease in ping vs the netgear cm1000. I also almost instantly bang off the max bandwidth rev limiter. The netgear is just as fast but took a second or so longer to reach full bandwidth. I am subscribed to 300Mbps. I am hitting 362 max but usually sit 359-360 consistent speedtest. Netgear sits 358 with occasional spike 360. Both held 30Mb uploads no problem. Out of the 32 channels I am currently only linked 24 in my area. Both modems chose docsis 3.0 in the download. Chicagoland/gurnee. Hopefully we see 3.1 rollout soon. According to the front panel on the arris it indicates a 3.1 link on upload but modem page says otherwise. 4 uplink channels. On docsis 3.1 peregrine firmware. You can't go wrong with either one of these. But if you want the edge and a possibility of link aggregation. Spend the extra $10.

I purchased this modem without WiFi because I already have eero WiFi routers. I previously bought this same one October of 2023 and January 2026 it stopped working, so I replaced it with the same thing. Works as it should.

Easy setup. Good features. Internet is faster than ever. This modem will enable you to get the gig speeds offered by your ISP, of course you have to order it. Even if the speeds aren't available yet, I would suggest this to future proof your installation. Good quality, Good warranty. I would suggest getting the extended warranty through Best Buy. Then if lightning strikes, you can take it to the store and get a new one immediately. If not, Arris will honor the warranty but who can be without internet for a couple of weeks to get one shipped from the manufacturer. Highly recommend.
