Modem needs fan to stay cool

Compatible with Xfinity cable...good speeds through modem. Reviews said it gets very warm...I agree. Placed modem in cool room with a fan pushing air through the case. It's just a plain modem without any router functions. Design flaw by Arris / comscope... should have a fan installed from factory

I have an Xfinity gig connection into our house. I work from home and need reliable speeds. We also have multiple devices that use WiFi. I thought by upgrading to the gig speed we would have a smooth running network, but that wasn’t the case. We constantly had WiFi issues and I would often experience drops in my connection while working. I spent a lot of time researching modems and routers to replace the Xfinity rental modem/router combo and decided on the Arris Surfboard Docis 3.1 modem paired with the Alien Amplifi router/mesh network. both the modem and router are capable of handling the 1G speed. I have not heard one single complaint from anyone in the house about lagging or dropped connections since I switched everything over. The connection in my home office hasn’t dropped once since the switch either. I am very happy with the performance of this modem and highly recommend it.

So far works great. Replaced a Motorola that was more expensive 2-3 years ago. Activated with Xfinity with a couple restarts. We get around 850 - 950 mbs on a 1.2 gb plan which is plenty. Easy set up and we'll see about long term reliability.

Instead of paying for Comcast Cable Modem. Use this instead. This is Comcast approved. No Cable Modem charge. My last version SB6190 lasted 9 years. Just plug up, and call comcast tech support to provided IMEI number found on device. And your good to go. Then just return comcast cable modem. The rental will come off your bill.

Works great, gives full speeds as specified. Setup is simple, and the extra network port versus earlier models is a welcome addition. On ours we run one port to the TV for streaming, the other to our Wi Fi router. Compact, and the front panel lights make status monitoring easy. It does everything I need without paying extra for features I don't.

So I received notice that my old Cable Modem was losing its support, and not wanting to pay a monthly fee I purchased this ARRIS - SURFboard Cable Modem. A very nice man, located in India, helped me set it up seamlessly and it has worked extremely well ever since.

Bought this to replace my Cox-branded modem to avoid paying them their "rental fee" for a subpar product - this modem has done amazingly well to service my household, especially considering the number of devices we have running at any given time with multiple phones, laptops, gaming computers, smart TV's, etc - a ton of demands on the Wifi and this modem keep up swimmingly - from anywhere in the house. Piece of cake to set up once you reach out to Cox and ensure their system recognizes it, from there just pipe it to your router and watch the bits fly. On 500 Mbps connection I am often getting 200-250 Mbps on an Xbox while four phones, four other computers, and one or more smart TV's might be sipping at the Wifi simultaneously. Great little product at a reasonable price! If you're paying monthly fees to rent your provider's gear, STOP and get something like this that pays for itself in your first year of ownership!!

Great modem, works flawlessly. I would give it 5 stars but only 1 of the 2 ethernet ports is usesble as a network port....read the fine print.

My intent was to replace the tower provided by my internet supplier (starts with an "X") so I didn't have to pay for it every month. I learned that I needed both a router and a modem in order to do so. (May be common knowledge...) so I needed to purchase two separate units. Will take me roughly 2 years to come out ahead on costs, but this Arris modem is built for what's coming and should last well past that. Set-up on these types of items has become very simple: scanning a QR code, downloading an app and standing aside to let it configure itself. Over the last month it has performed as expected and I'm pleased with the purchase. App interface is simple and intuitive. Good purchase.

Best Value out of all the 3.1 Modems

I purchased the Arris modem after also looking at the Netgear one. Arris was one of the first to come out with the DOCSIS 3.1 version while Netgear was one of the last. Since Netgear also had four ethernet ports and was more newly released, I thought that was the better choice (even though it was $50 more). Once I received the Netgear modem, I instantly regretted the purchase. The 4 ethernet ports are not for using at the same time - only 1 port will work. The ports are for bonding for higher speeds (2 x 2 ports) allowing for eventually faster speeds beyond 1 Gbps. I was on the call with multiple customer service reps to confirm this. So, after figuring this out, I realized I just paid an extra $50 for no real benefit. I went back to Best Buy to buy the Arris modem. Comparing the Arris to the Netgear modem, there really doesn't seem to be a difference. Both are 3.1 spec systems that go over 600 Mbps on my 600 Mbps Xfinity plan. After a few months, the Arris seems to be pretty reliable. No need to reset or reconfigure the device. If you are looking for a 3.1 modem, I believe, the only choices are this Arris modem, Netgear, and Motorola. Arris seems to be the better value as they all seem to perform similarly.

    Not better with Buckeye

I replaced my Buckeye Broadband (Erie County) modem with this. I can assure you IT IS compatible with Buckeye. I've had this hooked up for 5 days with no issues. My motivation was to see if I could detect better performance with a better and faster modem. All of my other equipment is so far advanced vs. what my Buckeye modem is. My Wi-Fi seems to be more responsive since I connected this. Here's the downside, even though it has two connection ports, only one can be used at a time. The only way around that is asking the internet provider to assign a separate IP address. I requested Buckeye to do that, and they said they don't do it. I still might return this, not because I'm not happy with it, because I've recently learned that Buckeye is very soon to have viable competition in our area. Therefore, when that happens, if I change providers, this would be useless. I know how hard it is to figure out what might be compatible with Buckeye. I bought and returned another modem because it wasn't, but I can assure you this one is. Allow me to set the record straight, a different modem DOES NOT increase your internet speed. It might improve your Wi-Fi, but it doesn't increase the speed you're subscribed to.

I take my network capabilities and quality seriously. I have an Erro mesh network of 4 nodes with 30+ devices constantly connected to my network including 5 Arlo cams (1 4K) XBOX One S, Vivint security, Nest thermostat, several smart lights, phones, computers, etc. all simultaneously connected and constantly being used. I stream most of my content; Youtube, Netflix and do online gaming. My ISP is through COX and I pay for a 100 mbps download and 10 mbps upload and I measure about 350 mbps download and 30 mbps upload. I had an ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 before and had to upgrade to this because the 3.0 version could not handle to bandwidth that I currently use. This 3.1 device is a necessary link in that chain to make it happen. But you do need to have a need of 300+ mbps download, need a mesh or high-end router and need the bandwidth for multiple devices; all are just as necessary in conjunction with this device. If you plan on expanding your online devices over the next few years the amount you WILL pay your ISP for renting a modem will pay for this device, and this device should last a good 5 years before the next upgrade.
