Character growth and limits on a hero's power

The Arrow series has done a great job of following Oliver Queen's development over the course of the series, from killer of those who have wronged his community, to trying to move beyond this and curb the urge to kill (while looking for a balance when left with no choice), to legal alternatives such as going from superhero to politician (shades of Brian K. Vaughan's Ex Machina comic series) which, nevertheless, puts limits on his pursuit of justice. (The gun violence episode, with its tragic attack on City Hall, the heated dissenting views of Team Arrow on the legalities of gun control, and solutions which offer no slick, easy answers, was a thoughtful, sensitive illustration of the difficulties confronting Mayor Queen.) That said, this is a superhero series, so, rather than tie his hands with the burdens of elected power, Queen must juggle the new responsibilities of elected power with his old-fashioned, hands-on street fighting approach, recruiting new blood and new powers to replace those who have departed (either voluntarily or through death), while wrestling with questionable, unholy alliances from his past (the Bratva), associations made with the short term goal of serving the greater good, but ones which he is unable to sever ties with, possibly doing more harm than good. Nor is Oliver alone in these morally questionable "enemy-of-my-enemy" associations; witness Felicity's work with hacktivists, initially to clear John Diggle's name, hacktivists whose agendas may be or may not be motivated by illicit, ulterior motives. And for those desiring an old-fashioned, apolitical comic adventure, there is the Invasion crossover with The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl, forcing a team-up to oppose an alien threat previously thought to be ancient history, but now threatening all of Earth. Overall, Arrow (this season in particular) has something for everyone. Definitely worth binge-watching.

This is going to be a double review for both The Flash season 3 and Arrow season 5. My feelings on both shows equate each other at this point. I've had enough of both of these shows. I’ve become bored with the wash rinse and repeat predictable plotline formulas that The Flash and Arrow shows have taken. Every season it seems that there is some super evil anonymous villain that comes out of the woodwork to cause havoc over the course of a season and then at the end of the season the good guys win. In Arrow’s case, it’s demonic in nature or in Flash’s case, yet another speedster. I remember the Amazing Spider-Man show that aired on CBS back in the 70’s always introduced a villain or a crisis that was dealt with by the end of the episode or was contained to two episodes. The background of said villain was always different and it was never someone with super powers, rather just good intellect to give Spider-Man a challenge. That was true comic book live action TV for me, not this lazy formulaic BS approach that I see on The Flash and Arrow. I’m just glad I got the current blu-ray boxsets for Arrow and The Flash at a reduced price at Best Buy. At this point I doubt I’m going to continue getting the boxsets at any price because I'm tired of seeing the same formula being repeated over and over ad nauseum.

I watched season 5 when it originally aired. Even though there were a few not as great episodes, overall, season 5 is a true return to form with Arrow. The season long story arc was great, the action scenes are so much better, and lets not forget the introduction of one of the greatest Arrow villains since Slade Wilson/Death stroke, in the form of Josh Segara's creepy, insane, and just downright sinister Adrian Chase/Prometheus. It's sad to see, but understandable as to why viewers left after seasons 3 and 4, but if anyone reading this is an old fan perhaps willing to give the show another chance, you wont be disappointed. Its a true return to what made Arrow great in seasons 1&2. For those wondering, yes there's still a little bit of the Olicity stuff but its very much toned down and never truly a focus in the season as it was in the past. But the culmination of the entire season in the final episode entitled: "Lian Yu" is perhaps one of the best, if not THE best episode of the entire series. This season (concurrently with The Flash: season 3 and Legends of Tomorrow: season 2) also contains a true crossover to behold. The 3 part Invasion story started incredibly with The Flash episode, brought the emotion with the Arrow episode (which also served as Arrow's 100th episode), and was brought to an awesome and delightfully over the top end in the Legends episode. I've been watching Arrow since the very first season and I've never stopped. I've never lost faith and I will continue to watch until the very end.

I first saw an episode of season 2 at a friends house a couple of years ago. I was actually in the living room by myself, my friend was taking a shower and this was on. I was immediately struck by the characters, and how good they were each identifiable. And, to be honest I had never even heard of Arrow. But again, I was impressed with the writing, the acting, the set production, etc.... But I was hooked on a CW show and I have never watched any of the networks shows before. My buddy had Netflix so when he returned from the shower, I asked him if he ever watched this show. He said no. I asked if he could check if it was on Netflix. He did. I got to watch the first 2 episodes of season 1. The next day I went out and purchased season 1 and 2. I finished the 2 seasons in 3 days. Ever since I have been a loyal Arrow fan, but I only purchase them when a season is released, so I can binge. I am still on season 4, and I can't wait to start season 5. I was also able to purchase the Blue Ray edition, because Best Buy had an incredible price of $14.99.

    Arrow Season 5 Bluray Review

Arrow's fifth season is a return to form for the series. They went back to basics, threw out what didn't work in seasons 3 and 4, and made one of the best seasons yet. Most of the elements of the previous seasons, such as the Felicity/Olicity drama, mystical elements, and one-note villains are toned down or removed completely. Instead, we have a season much closer to the show's benchmark first and second seasons. A darker tone, less romantic drama, and a compelling main villain are what viewers can expect. The picture and sound quality of the bluray are amazing and it has some cool special features such as deleted scenes, a gag reel, and multiple documentaries, including one about the epic Invasion crossover. I highly recommend this box set for fans of the series.

I am the type of person that I forgive a lot of things in the fiction/fantasy world. I'll forgive a fanfiction that is riddled with grammatical errors if the plot is decent. I'll forgive season 5 for being a bit predictable. I felt that Oliver devolved this season. Oliver is not a genius like Curtis or Felicity, but he is intelligent. This season I felt Oliver was dumbed down. Maybe it was emotions clouding him but it seemed that Prometheus was asking for the bare minimum and Oliver would fail to understand what Prometheus wanted from him. I also think that, as a villain, Prometheus was a let down compared to Damian Darhk. The stakes were more personal but seemed smaller then the previous season. Still can't wait for next season.

Season 5 was a comic book geeks dream come true. New team comes together, new threat which shakes the team to its core, and of course, more romance and bro-mance drama. Wild Dog AND Vigilante make their debut this season and Prometheus. Characters are really fleshed out and developed deeper with great back stories. Episodes leading up to the season finale was incredible with Slade Wilson returning as Deathstroke and a very improbable faceoff on Lian Yu with a C-130 landing there and the whole island being laden with explosives. The biggest bummer? How Best Buy had exclusive Steel cases for Supergirl and The Flash this year but stopped making one for Arrow or any other type of cool packaging.

A solid season of television, especially if you've watched from the beginning. Season five brought one of my favorite villains of the show in Prometheus. Each piece of the arc felt like a wonderful job in progressing each character. There are people added to the crew that you might not feel connected with but Curtis Holt joining the team brings joy & fun to their dynamic. My love for Arrow has been consistent and while it may not always have me raving about each episode, I can always look back on the season & remember how many moments have held weight with me. Super jazzed to get through the special features and is always worth the purchase!

Arrow has had its ups and downs with seasons. Season 4 lacked a little. Season 5 shot Arrow back up, in my opinion. The characters were great and the return of some old characters, awesome. I felt like I was watching more of the original show before they lightened it up with less violence. Brings the show back to the roots of season 1. The package itself is nice. Special features are the usual from any season. I would have loved for Best Buy to make a steelbook for this. Supergirl and Flash got this time around, but Arrow was left out. I am still happy with my purchase.

Everything comes full circle with season five. Not only does it end the flashbacks about the island but serveral people from the past come back for the 100 episode. This also doesn’t include the crossover event. I wish all of the crossover episodes would be included. As it stands you currently have to buy Flash, Supergirl and the Legends of Tomorrow seasons in order to get all of the crossover episodes. I guess I can’t complain too much as this season is the best since season 1 and at 14.99 to get both the blu ray and a digital copy was a bargain.

After a lackluster third and fourth season, not many people were expecting much from season five of Arrow, but this certainly surprised just about everyone, myself included. The focus on legacy as the season's central theme was an inspired choice, as it led to some fantastic moments throughout the episodes that forced Oliver to question his actions in ways that we hadn't seen to that point. Prometheus also cemented himself as one of the best Arrowverse villains, as he gave some of the best performances the show has ever seen

This is a great show. The lead actor competes on american ninja and wwe on his time off. He is a real life super hero! You can see it in his acting n that he is green arrow. The supporting actors are given more in this season to work with and that leads to a better story. Best buy had these on sale cheaper than any river company and if you want a good story at a great price buy it here.

This is a great show, the current CW DC lineup started with this show and after 100 plus episodes, this show still does not disappoint. THIS VILLIAN, PROMETHEUS, hands down the best one by far on ARROW, and im a big DEATHSTROKE fan, but bruh.....PROMETHEUS was psychotic and crazy and yet could was refined and found a way to counter ARROW in every way, AND EVEN THE FINALLY!

Another great season for Arrow. I personally think season one and two were fantastic and season three to four were entertaining but just slightly better than okay, season five almost hits the heights of season one and two in terms of awesome. A great continuation to the series with a potential drastic shakeup at the end that makes season six something to look forward to watching.

Arrow is to comic book television what The Dark Knight is to comic book movies. The first three seasons were solid, action packed stories that were simultaneously realistic and mythological, just like The Dark Knight made Batman and the Joker seem realistic. The fourth season was barely watchable. Yet somehow, this fifth season has returned the series to its former glory.

Arrow Season 5 ranks as the second best season of the show in its now six year run (It is a close second to Season 2). Stephen Amell is at the top of his game and the Prometheus plot line dove tails neatly with questions raised about the Hood/Arrow in Season One. A must have for Arrow fans. The blu ray comes with a digital copy of the season as well.

I missed Season 4, so maybe he started intro'ing with "I am the Green Arrow" then...but I noticed he isn't just "the Arrow" in Season 5. I like the characters on his team, we learn more about them: good -- but ENOUGH of the love interest with Computer Girl! Give us a break on their affair, I tire of it! I think there is enough suspense for a good Season 6 to come.

After a terrible third and fourth season, Season 5 is a return to form for Arrow. Prometheus is a legitimately great villain and the tension is ramped up in each episode. The new recruits are also made to be a bit more likable. Plus, we finally get the return of Slade, which is always great.

The Arrow started all the buzz about the current bunch of DC Comics TV series, and it remains the one consistently great show, even though it does occasionally go off the rails a bit. I am not as enamored of this season’s storylines, but they are trying to give us new stuff and they do keep it interesting.
