The Sweet Spot in Astro’s lineup

PROs True Wireless Headset. No wires needed for Xbox Chat/mic The Xbox One version also works completely on PS4 (Wireless mic and Game Audio). The battery is rated at about 15 hours on medium volume. Full-sized USB port on the back that you can use to charge your headset or other devices Works with both PC and Macs Useable while charging CONs There’s no wired Audio support. Headphones turns on while charging SOUND This has essentially the same sound signature as every other Astro headset, which is a good thing. It’s a slightly warm, slightly aggressive sound, that seems designed to split the difference between fun and accuracy. Highs are gently reduced from their maximum without a hint of fatigue. Bass is right in that nice middle ground between punchy and rumbly. The mids are present and don’t sound hollow or muddy. It sounds very friendly, impressive, and pleasant…sort of like what I expect out of Bose products. It’s tuned for long gaming sessions, and I think a slightly warm signature is just the right call for that purpose. This pair does not include the Dolby Headphone decoder of the more expensive A40 and A50 units…but you can use software virtual surround solutions like Windows Sonic or Dolby Atmos, and those work great. Astro includes three default EQ presets. The first is called “Astro,” and it actually gently elevates the highs and upper mids without touching the bass. Even with this EQ turned on, the headset presents a nice, generally warmer-than-flat sound signature that I could listen to all day. The second mode is called “Pro”. It adds a somewhat aggressive hump in the bass and boosts the upper-mid footsteps region. I don’t really like the way this sounds at all, particularly for music. However. It’s probably designed for gaming tournament scenarios. The extra hump in the bass helps further block out outside noise, and the boost in the upper mids helps bring out footsteps and game chat. So I get why this preset exists. The third preset is called “Studio”, and I think it’s trying to mimmic the slightly “W-shaped” sound of something like the M50X. I enjoyed the sound of this one just fine. It’s nicely detailed, and more aggressively punchy in the bass than the default setting. It has slightly boosted highs too, that have just a touch more detail and “tizziness” to them, but still don’t sound fatiguing. Of course, with a computer, you could delete all these if you’d like. If you hook up the A20 to a Mac or a PC, you can download the Astro Command Center and fully reprogram each of these EQ presets to your heart’s content. You can also tweak the mic settings a bit. This is just simply a nice-sounding headset. The highs are present but not too aggressive. And the bass should satisfy all but the most obsessive of bassheads. I think the equally-priced RIG 800 sounds a touch more impressive on its default EQ…though that headset has some issues with digital clipping/distortion when your source volume is turned up, which thankfully isn’t a problem on the A20. Astro has always presented a solid, safe, fun sound signature across their lineup, and it’s really nice that the two lower-end offerings retain that. ISOLATION The A20 has an impressive amount of isolation for a cloth ear cup headset. The ear pads seal well against the head, and have a very dense memory foam inside. It won’t block out as much noise as an active pair of headphones, or some of the better leatherette pads on the market…but it’s great for a headset using cloth. COMFORT Astro has once again nailed headphone comfort. The ear pads have larger holes than those on the A10, so you shouldn’t have any huge issues with the pads or the insides touching your ears. The pads are shaped comparably to those on the A40 and A50, with a nice subtle molded shape that helps make up for a slight lack of lateral rotation in the cups. Although the covering is similar in quality to the cloth on the A10, the foam inside the pads is perhaps the nicest Astro has ever used. It’s a squishy memory foam and I really like the way it feels. It molded nicely around my glasses. That Crusher Wireless headband pad serves its purpose well, and offers more direct head support than any other Astro headset. All of those use half-length cloth pads. This pad is made of a soft rubber with a pocket of air behind it, and it feels quite nice on the head and in the hands. It also picks up a ton of dust instantly. The weight and clamping force are just about perfectly balanced, and the result is a headset that’s easily wearable for hours, once you get it adjusted correctly. If you don’t place it just right, the ridges in the headband might cause you minor discomfort, but that’s about all I could see being a comfort issue. Astro can stand proudly alongside HyperX as a headset company that actually cares about user comfort. What a concept! :) MICROPHONE I never expect wireless mics to be amazing, especially on gaming headsets. There’s not a lot of bandwidth to spare in the design of these products, and often the mic audio gets short shrift. No such issues exist on the A20. Like the A10, it has an exceptional microphone. The tone is natural, with nice resonance in the voice. It has decent background noise cancellation. There’s a tiny amount of barely noticeable compression, but honestly I’ll take it. This is perhaps the best-performing wireless mic that’s not on a Razer product. You can use the Astro Command Center software to pick from different noise gates, and adjust the amount of side tone as well. This directly copies the features of the more expensive Astro headsets, which is wonderful. FEATURES/EXTRAS/WIRELESS PERFORMANCE Inside the box, you get a wireless transmitter, the headset, a 1 meter USB cable, a half-meter USB cable, and a 1 meter optical cable. The wireless transmitter is nice! It has just enough weight to it that it doesn’t feel hollow, and it has rubber feet so it won’t slide around on your desk. I bought the Xbox version, so it has a toggle on the back between Xbox and PC modes. In Xbox mode, the USB connection basically fools an Xbox One into thinking a controller is connected, and you can pump all the chat audio to your headset that way. Regular game audio comes in over the optical connection, and you can balance these levels with buttons around the volume wheel on the headset. In PC mode, you can get audio to the transmitter either through USB or optical…but you’ll need to use USB if you want to use the mic or the Astro command center. The headset will also work with a PS4 in PC mode, if you connect up both the optical and usb cables, thanks to the PS4 supporting most generic PC USB headsets. So if you need compatibility with all three platforms, the Xbox headset is the one to get! The white light on the transmitter turns green when you switch to Xbox mode. There are also some Call of Duty branded versions that sell for 10 bucks more and come in different colors…and for your troubles/extra cash, you get a code to redeem for microtransaction bucks inside for Call of Duty: WWII video game. Yay? Highly recommended for gamers on a budget that want a solid mic, a slightly warm sound, and good comfort! FINAL THOUGHTS Astro has basically produced an A50, but taken out the magnetic removable ear pads and the Dolby Headphone decoder…and then lopped over $150 off the price. That’s an astounding deal if you’re looking for a headset and you’ve decided that Astro is your brand of choice. The RIG 800HX offers a free Dolby Atmos code in the box right now, and slightly better battery life. However, it will have some issues with digital clipping if you don’t turn your source volume down, and it doesn’t isolate nearly as well as the A20. It also doesn’t have as nice of a microphone. This hands down beats anything Logitech has out right now. In short, the A20 is a totally good and fine wireless headset with exactly the feature set I’d expect at this price point, and sound that mirrors its more expensive cousins. In fact, if you’re good with stereo or one of the software virtual surround modes Microsoft has recently introduced…there’s almost no practical reason to select the A40 or A50 over the A10 or A20. Sure, the more expensive headsets do offer interchangeable ear pads. But that’s kind of the one leg they have left to stand on, direct comparison-wise. I still love the more premium A40…but these cheaper models are perfect for most consumers who want the same sound and feature set, as long as you don’t want to change out your pads all the time. Highly recommended for gamers on a budget that wants a solid mic, a slightly warm sound, and good comfort!

I am enjoying the A20 headset after about 10 hours into use. My background is I have audiophile grade and gaming headsets. This headset is closest to my Astro A50's (gen one) that is why I upgraded for easier connection to Xbox one X. Below are my Pros and Cons with this headset. Pros: Comfortable-the headset does not look comfy, but it is. The headset is semi open back with a small bit of passive noise cancelation. The earpads go over my big ears so I'm happy. Great Sound-Use the ACC to put some good eqs on here and it shines. You can use simulated surround on xb1 with Windows Sonic or use Dolby Atmos. Also learn to balance game and chat on the headset or you will have issues. Battery-8 hours straight and it's still going, hoping I get close to 15 hours. Cons:low volume-not happy with this as this headset only supplies 40mm drivers and it would appear Astro tuned the volume down to increase battery life. At max volume its fine, but it's nice to go up a notch like my A50s. Just be aware if this is a big deal to you. Microphone-it was super tough to adjust the mic to a good level and noise gate. I have multiple consoles and use a optical passthrough, I got it to work but absolutely requires ACC to tweak. Requires Update out of box-if you are reading these, as soon you get these tether to your pc and update firmware. That will fix your issues and also a hard restart will fix most anything else that happens Overall, this is a great headset if you can get it for 99 bucks like I paid. Any more and I would require higher volume levels for sure. Hopefully after break in the volume is a small bit louder.

    Quality Headset for $150

The Astro A20 Wireless Xbox Headset is a fantastic choice. Amazing sound, a flexible microphone boom that can be moved out of the way, comfortable to wear, sturdy construction and all while remaining under $200. Setup is simple and easy. Once setup, you can use the headset between your Mac, PC, or Xbox. The only thing that I don't like is that the headset does not cancel out all other external sound. While this may not matter to some people, those who want the experience of complete immersion, external sound is a problem. That being said external sounds are dampened and muffled quite considerably. The Astro A20 delivers great sound, you will hear sounds as if they are in front of you, behind you, to the either side, above you, below you, and any combination. The A20 headset is made of durable plastic, comfortably padded over-ear speakers and a rubber headband. The one thing I do not like about the headband is the headphone stand cut out. The cutout makes for a weird feel on your head. One of the best features of the A20 is the lag free wireless connection. There is virtually no lag between game audio and the audio being transmitted through the headset. If you're looking for a quality headset that delivers amazing sound for less than $200 you can't go wrong with the Astro A20 Wireless Xbox Headset.

So I originally purchase the RIG 800-LX headphone and did not like the sound quality at all, even with the Dolby Atmos feature. I returned them and purchased the Astro A20's instead. I originally had the Astro A10's which is basically a wired version of these to an extent. The range on these are great, I'm able to walk around my apartment with little to no loss of connection. There are 3 preset EQ features, but my suggestion is to download the software on your computer to get into the sound board and turn up all sound levels to get the maximum amount of sound needed for those games that require you to pay close attention to sounds. The muting function is nice being able to just flip up the mic. All in all, great wireless headset for the price. Only owned for less than a week now and will most likely update my review if I notice any lack of quality over time. Right now, 5/5!

I returned my AG9’s 2 times because of many issues. I decided to try out a pair of Astros. I read all the reviews on here and amazon. They were very mixed. It was hard to determine if some of the lower reviews posted had people that were entirely too tech savvy and had elevated expectations or these headphones were just not very good. Anyway they were on sale so I decided to buy them and try if I didn’t like them I would simply return them. They are not plug and play but updating the firmware is very simply and set depending on what your playing on is different for each but it’s not hard to figure out. My son and I love them. For the price the sound is very good and clear. Spatial recognition where are players are is a spot on and the battery lasts a long time. It’s worth the money my daughter uses the turtle beach 600 stealth and the sound is not nearly as good.

I am a Astro Fan and have a set of A50s and have also had the A10s. I use the A20s for travel as I like that they are wireless but don't require hauling around the larger charging base as I would have to with the A50s. I was a little concerned that they are not true 7.1 surround like the A50s, they are just stereo.. placebo surround if you will. But happily they work very well and I have no issues placing sounds around me. They are just as comfortable as my other Astro products. I am an eyeglass wearer and can use them for hours at a time with no issue. For the price they can't be beat.

I was looking for a good headset and mic to work with my xbox one x. I have been spoiled when it comes to sound quality because I use Bose QC 3, have a 5.1 surround system at home that I configured myself and didn’t know what to expect when I was buying. I was really thinking of buying another headset as this store demo for the Astro a20 was not working, so it was truly a gamble. I ordered another headset from another vendor but it would reach me in 3 days. After comparing this with turtle-beach stealth 700 when I got that, on sound quality, quality of mic and comfort I chose this headset over turtle-beach and returned the turtle beach. These are good headsets for you if you like the three aspects that I listed above and you will not feel bad after buying them. Happy shopping!!!

My wife bought this for me as a gift and I love it. The sound is perfect enough to zone everyone out. LOL. It has 3 preset options that you can choose for audio. The balance between the game audio and chat audio is great. You can adjust how loud you want the chat audio to be or vice versa. The wireless feature is a must have. No more getting stuck on wires while you play. The comfort of having these on your head is pretty good. Its cushioned for comfort. The Mic performance is good. You can actually mute and unmute your mic by flipping it up/down. Overall great audio quality and comfort. What’s not so great is the customization. Would’ve loved to see more customization.

Originally bought the PS4 version (same manufacturer and model), and my son loved it. Now he has a X-Box and decided to get the same version but for X-Box. Nearly identical in all ways. Sound is very customizable but easy to use for even young kids. The cloth type material that surrounds your ears is very, very comfortable, unlike other materials used in other headsets, but that is my opinion. Overall, he is very happy, and notices no difference between both version headsets, besides cosmetic appearance ( the X-Box version is the Call of Duty version, only version they had). Definitely recommend this manufacturer and model type headset for any gamer with a mid budget set in mind.

My buddy and I both picked up these Astro A20’s after hearing lots of hype about astros and wanting a wireless headset. In game this headset makes such a difference. I clean head directional footsteps and gunfire which improves my gameplay. The fact that they’re wireless allows me to leave my controller and get up to refill my drink or what not without carrying my controller or ripping my headset off. The mic on this is also such a step up. My only complaint about this headset is that I had to pay $10.00 more for it because all they had was the special call of duty edition. Not the regular green set.

I bought this headset because I was looking to expand on my home theatre system and I knew that Microsoft wouldn't come out with their own like they did with the 360. That being said, I believe it was a great investment. This headset combined with the Dolby Atmos Access app on the Microsoft store to give you Dolby Atom for headsets is mind blowing. I feel like I can hear everything better now. I can also use the heasset on my pc if I want by flipping the switch on the hub from Xbox to pc. This truely is an amazing product and would definitely recommend it to any hardcore gamer.

Let me start with: I'm not an audiophile. I don't get all twisted about sound quality unless stuffy is noticeably tinny. But I have found this headset to be great for both game sounds and voice chat. No tinniness. Supposedly there is a toggle between game and voice volume, but on PC it functions like volume up/down. Still, truly wireless and goes where I need. 8 months of use and it's still a champ. It beeps when the batteries are low. All in all, worth it!

The A20's are a great entry level wireless set, easy set up, great sound quality. Sure it's not a $450 professional gaming headset but it's still a really good one. Astro knocked it out of the park with the A20's. If you are torn between these and the turtle beaches, grab these simply because the customer service is way better.

I have owned tons of turtle beaches throughout my gaming career and this is my first time giving Astros a shot. Well it's great. Love the wireless aspect of it. The only thing I don't like is the volume controls on the bottom of the right ear, when you turn your head, you turn down the volume because it drags along your shoulder.

Like the title says, overall great wireless headset. I wanted a wireless headset so it wouldn't drain the batteries in my controller. The over ear cups fit great. I really like the volume dial and separate buttons for adjusting voice chat and game volumes that sits in back of the right ear cup. Another nice touch is moving the Mic boom into the vertical position to mute your voice.

So far so good with this gaming headset. It took a little bit to get used to how the sound adjusts between game volume and voice volume, but once I figured that out I’ve had no issues with this headset. It gives good enough quality in fortnite for me to hear sounds and enemies effectively. I enjoyed the wireless function And I’m happy I don’t have to spend 300+ dollars for the other wireless one.

Great budget headset. I wanted a starter wireless headset and this works great. Need to make some adjustments on your computer before using on xbox but works after adjusting. Would much rather have leather/pleather for the ear part as the fabric will probably wear fast but works for now. If i was purchasing again I would probably pay the additional for that upgrade.

I bought the A40 and they were awesome I had to return the a40s because I needed a completely wireless headset that did not need to be plugged in at all to work and these were the ones that worked best and I do not regret this at all. It’s sounds very crisp and clear and the bass hits when needed. I love them.

I have glasses and these headsets do not bother me when I wear them. I recently tried the Turtle Beach - Stealth 700 Wireless Surround Sound Gaming Headset, and those were not very comfortable compared to the Astro Gaming - A20 Wireless Gaming Headset. Also, the sound is crisp and easy to change since the controls are on the side of the headset.

These have probably the best sound quality you will get with wireless headphones. They are truly wireless and I don’t have my headphones unplugged whenever I drop my controller or have to bring my controller with me everywhere. They do have some connectivity issues here and there and are quite expensive but I think they are worth the purchase. Really hoping they last long.
