    Amazing Sound & Quality

I went through five headsets trying to find the best sound and quality and this is by far the best money can buy. The sound is out of this world in both stereo and surround sound mode and the mic is very clear on both ends. It also has mic monitoring or voice feedback labeled as “side tone” and a feature hard to live without once you have used it. Also the ability to customize your sound settings and functions within the mixamp on a PC or Mac is a huge plus and a really nice feature. You can also customize the look of the headset with magnetic speaker tags, ear cups, headbands and a different sound canceling mic with astros mod kits. You are able to use the Xbox version on a ps4 BUT you won’t be able to use chat only sound. You would have to buy the PS4 mixamp separately. I can’t say enough good things about this headset and if your on the fence about spending this kind of money for a gaming headset, well all I can say is you really get what you pay for. Trust me I learned the hard way. Oh and stay far far away from Turtle Beach!

I had the prior A40's for the xbox360 and found them to be the best for xbox360 surround sound. I assumed that this new A40TR would be just as good or better for the xbox one but I was sadly mistaken. The TR stands for "tournament ready" which means you would have to have a group of guys/girls all in the same room with 4 (four) of these A40TR headsets linked together "daisy chained". This is the ONLY way you can hear and speak to your team mates. The A40TR does NOT allow you to speak nor hear people on xbox live!!!! This is because there is no connection to the xbox one controller that dictates the back and forth of voice over the internet. If you are a professional first person shooter (FPS) who travels only to tournaments this headset is designed for you. If you are not a professional FPS player and wish to talk and play over xbox live; like Halo 5, DO NOT buy this headset. The headset you will want is the Halo 5 special edition surround sound A40's with the M80 mixamp which DOES plug into the xbox one voice input on the xbox one controller. This allows you to hear and speak to people on xbox live.

I had a Turtle Beach headset that I used for a number of years and it was great but it was time to update. I searched around and read tons of reviews and went with the Astro Gaming A40 TR headset and I am not disappointed. This thing sounds amazing and it feels great on your head. Hardly notice you have a headset on. While it is wireless from your controller is does have a wire that goes from the Xbox to the mix amp and one from the mix amp to the headset. That being said, at first I thought I would not like that, then after a while I loved it. So much customization and I use this headset to watch movies in 7.1 when I don't want to be loud. you can even hook your phone into the mix amp and listen to your music while you play or even talk on the phone if your need to. The headset can be modded later if you wish. Definitely worth the purchase.

I have owned this headset for over 2 months now. I have used this headset extensively, equating to about 4 hours per day for 2 months. When I first used the headset, I noticed that when I turned on Dolby digital surround on the mixamp, the sound became muffled, it echoed, it sounded absolutely unacceptable for a 250 dollar headset. I researched for many hours on the Astro forum to find a solution, only to find that many other people are experiencing the same issue. Astro support will only deny that there is a problem and wants you to send in your unit for inspection. They will send it back and say they were not able to replicate the issue described. Do yourself a favor and research the honest truth about this headset on the Astro Forum under community support before making the decision to purchase these. I have no idea how there are so many five star reviews on this product. These headphones sound terrible in dolby digital mode and the support for them is even worse. Please do yourself a favor and spend your money on a different product.

I wanted to be able to hear stuff on my computer while hearing my game sound and chatting to my xbox friends. It was easy to set up after I heard how to download Astro Central, the add on from the astrogaming website. You can't use the headset MICROPHONE for PC and Xbox at the same exact time, but it works for both individually. I found a good solution to this is just have your team mates use team speak to chat so the mic would be used on PC. I think the best part of this headset is that it doesn't need to be connected to your controller anymore!!! My batteries last so much longer now that I don't have a headset connected to it. I also have XO Sevens from Turtle Beach and the Astros feel 100000 times better on my ears and the surround sound in Call of Duty is amazing, I can nearly pin point enemies just from hearing where they are in the headset. I would recommend using multiple sources for set up but in the end it's Optic cable & USB to Xbox and 3.5MM cable from the headphone jack on your computer to the headphone jack on your mixamp.

Things you need to do in order for it to work properly on xbox one. Hook it up to your pc first, put the mix amp in pc mode, and download astro command center from their website. There will be a firmware update, once it detects your mixamp download it, then after its done installing you are ready to hook it up on the xbox one (it will work without the firmware update, just the sound, but the mic won't get detected via usb/mixamp until you do the firmware update). Yes, it does work with the new xbox dashboards and the mic will work fine after the firmware update. The Mic is usb, so no more controller attachments. Also the sound quality is 10x better than the A40 m80 mixamp version.

The cords are adequate in length. They could stand to be longer. The audio quality is good, the microphone is clear and understandable for people on the other end of multiplayer games. The design of the headphones is nice while still remaining comfortable to wear. The speech and game volume knobs allowing for fine tuning of the two channels of audio is a great touch. Overall this is a very nice wired headset that connects directly to the xbox and not the controller. It will will reach across a modest living room to have the volume controls rest on the couch but is better used when sitting at a desk next to the xbox and a nice chair. If the wires don't sound like a negative then you will like these headphones for the audio quality.

    All Static

I've had Astro headsets for years, my old pair of A40s finally died and I knew I wanted to get this pair as the replacement. I play primarily on Xbox One, but also do some PC gaming, so this made the most sense over the A40s with the M80 adapter. When I plugged everything into the Xbox, first thing I noticed was the static, and I mean a lot of static, it would get progressivly louder as time went on. I tried muliple configurations, including just plugging the 3.5mm jack into the Xbox Controller directly but the static remained. I was also in a Party with other people and they were complaining that the static was coming through the mic as well and blasting their ears. I returned the headset the next day. I'm currently using an old pair of A50s with the terrible AG1 cable for Xbox, hoping to try a different cable in the future. Overall very dissapointed in the quality of this product given the A40's I had for over 5 years.

My first thoughts about this headset is the comfort and build quality! These are extremely comfortable and feels very durable. The build is great. The sleek design is an immediate eye catcher. The sound quality is superb. There is an excellent range of customizability. The ability to be able to access the ASTRO Command Center allows me to customize the equalizer setting to however I please. I have this headset paired with the mod-kit offered by ASTRO. It allows background noise cancellation. The microphone blocks background noise very very well. I love this headset & wouldn't pick any other one! If you are on the edge between the A50s or these, grab these!

I have been a fan of astros for a while now. They definitely gave this generation a great update. While the headset internals are the same as the generation 2 astros, they now include the ability to swap out the ear cups, side plates and headband to your liking. Where the TR edition really shines though is the mixamp. Redesigned to be completely digital and a plethora of options for the gamer and the streamer alike. You can customize each level of sound that comes out of the stream port. For example, if you want the game volume low, your chat high and the party chat high you can do that. You can also change the level out the sound aux port through that outputs to the stream port etc. Tons of options. You also do not need a cable for chat anymore with the xbox edition as everything is now through the usb while connected to the xbox. All in all, great headset if your looking to upgrade.

I have been through a few gaming headsets over the last few years. I even bought the A50 wireless version of this same headset in the past and returned it due too technical issues. I am happy to say I have not had any problems with the A40. This is a solid headset with many fans. I do like this headset but I also have a few things I think could have been done better. I can't exactly say it's the best sounding headset but it's ok. I would have liked the alternate ear pads and stand to be included for the price. What I do like is the mini amp. That one piece that allows me too control the incoming mike volume just about makes up for the sound stage I think could be improved. And it did make setting up the headset very easy. But I am still waiting on the one headset that really does allow me too hear a true surround sound. But till that day these will do fine.

I’ve had these for about a week after returning a different headset and I am completely satisfied with these A40s with the mixamp. After hours of playing at a time the headset remains comfortable. My friends say I sound nice and clear in the party chat which makes me wonder if the people with issues didn’t upgrade the firmware. I also read to put the mic on streamer mode and that helps as well. The command center program is easy to use on the PC and comes with all the wires you need. I have Corsair Voids for my PC but I’m thinking about using this when I want to game because they sound a lot better. The surround sound is also immersive and spot on. I’m glad I spent an extra $100 from the returned pair for this higher quality.

First off, I have owned many different headsets in the past including other generations of A40s as well as A30 and A50 models. These new TR model A40s are by far my favorites I have used. I bought a mod kit for mine as I wanted the leatherette ear pads and top band. The sound quality is incredible either way but I prefer the more isolated sound the modem kit provides. Having the Astro command center available so you can customize your equipment settings is just icing on the cake. I honestly can't think of anything Astro can improve for its next generation of A40.

I really wanted to like these headphones. The reviews of them were solid and I love the look of them but I just could not get over the boomy-ness of them despite running all of the software and tweaking the equalizer settings. I seemed to always either be stuck with a very flat and tinny sound or bass that just drowned out any details in the game. My old headphones which were on their last leg gave me a ton of detail and great surround but weren't 7.1, I had hoped that these would blow that other set away (though they were an expensive set when they were purchased years ago). That being said, I do still love the way they look and they were very, very comfortable but it just wasn't worth it for me in the end. Perhaps they should be a 3.5 star but I'm still on the hunt for a 5-star replacement for me old headphones.

I’ve been back and forth about spending the money to buy the A40s for about a year or two. I have owned top of the line Turtle Beach headsets and I have used the Astro A10s and A20s, but I can honestly say these A40 are unreal. They change the game and give you a whole new gaming experience. The sound is so crisp and puts you in the game. The surround sound the A40s provide will give you a competitive advantage over other opponents. I love this headset and i dont know why I waited to pull the trigger. Sound quality is far superior to any other headset. The A40s are very comfortable for me to wear for an extended time. My only negative to the A40s is I wish they extended a little more for my big head. They fit and cover my ears and are comfortable, but it’s very close.

This headset and accompanied Mixamp are bar none the top of its class. For a person who is looking for customizable sound and high quality build this is the top choice. Gaming is my main use but just listening to music on these is a treat.. All parts of the build were tight and clean. I have had other Astros in the past and these are a real move in the right direction. Side note my a40s and Mixamp from 2011 are still working these were purchased to use on my laptop which has an optical sound port so these were the obvious choice for me. I love the fact that they come apart and can be customized to look different. Seriously my only complaint is the cables were too long for laptop so I just got shorter ones and swapped them out! Overall no issues great sound and the price reflects this. Happy pwning..

Originally I upgraded to the A40 with mixamp m80. Was not impressed and was disappointed with the sound. I stream Mixer playing pubg on xbox one and my voice is clear and it is easy for me to adjust game and chat volume. When you press the mute button on the cord the lights on the mixamp pro turn red so it is easy to see when you are muted. I also gave the A50s a try and with being wireless those were great but I think the wired A40 with mixamp pro sounded better to me. (Personal opinion) If you pick up Astro A40 with Mixamp Pro you will not be disappointed.

I have been tempted to purchase Astros in the past but have stayed away. I have been loyal to Turtle Beach for the last few years. I purchased the XO7's at launch and found them to be just Ok for stereo sound. The XO's recently began having problems so I returned them under the Geek Squad Program and purchased these. Onto these A40's...They are simply amazing. No wires going to your controller! All sound and chat is handled through the mixamp and USB to your console. Sounds are clear and crisp, base is strong, and directional hearing is unlike any other headset that I have used. I have had problems with other headsets and glasses. Most of them press against the side of head and give me headache. These A40's do not. The ear cups are like pillows on my melon.

As far as the headset itself goes, it's extrwmely comfortable, overall good sound, ideal highs, mids, and bass. Only issue is one of my own making, since they are open back. I can hear background conversations quite well, which can be distracting at times. However, that can be taken as a bonus if you don't like or want to have all background sound blocked out, like you would get with a closed back. As far as the amp goes, it is wonderful, definitely can tell a difference in sound with and without it. Having the ability to change the eq depending on the type of game I'm playing is extremely nice to have. Also, the option for virtual 7.1 surround is wonderful, it isn't super echoey like a lot of virtual surround makes it sound
