Wireless is so much nicer. I like that the ear cups aren’t the faux leather that crumbles. Comfortable too. Nice quality feel. Not very heavy. Lots of function. Only con would be that it doesn’t always connect to Xbox when you turn it on. You have to unplug and replug the usb.

From using a wired headset to upgrading to a wireless headset is so convenient. I was able to walk into the kitchen down stairs for a drink without having to pause a movie or my games it’s like it reaches 100 feet or something On top of that, having a headset mount without cables is such a space saver which leads to a cleaner, sleeker space. And for gaming, the sound is crystal clear, the mic works exactly as advertised and it fits comfortably for long periods of time. The only issue I’ve had with this headset is the mic because loose over time and doesn’t stay in the position you put it but other then that it’s a great headset.

Love the sound... Miss Some Features

This is my first headset from Astro and I can honestly say it’s one of the best headsets I’ve owned for gaming. It’s comfortable, stylish (gaudy to some), and extremely convenient. I mean, look at that charging dock for crying out loud! However there are a few features I didn’t like too much after a at least a month of use. For one, the headset cups have this super nice matte black finish, which would be unbelievably fashionable in the event that the buttons weren’t built into the ear cups. But that is just the case, design decided to put the buttons on the right and left side of the interior of right ear cup and unless you carry some Michael Jackson gloves around, the right ear cuff is going to show who you want to hear more, your friends in party chat, or those footsteps that are approaching you from thirty feet away to your five o’clock. Which brings me to my next point. This headset has such a great soundstage that not only can I hear which direction sounds are coming from, but how FAR! I’ll give you a situation. I play Destiny quite a bit and in Destiny there’s quite a bit of traveling through large spaces. In some of these spaces you have a vehicle that you can help cut down on the travel time from point a to point be. With this headset, I find myself smiling as I can hear gunfire coming from a specific part of the map, drive towards that part of the map and the gun shots get louder, and if I drive right past all the action I’ll hear every direction the gunfire is coming from loud and clear. If I continue to drive the sound will no longer surround me and I can hear it grow more and more faint behind me as I leave it in the distance. I LOVE IT! All of the things you want in a wireless headset are here. Comfort, great sound (did I mention Dolby Atmos support is here), and an amazing battery life of roughly 15 hours, aka “Steven, it’s time to go to bed” time. The only feature I do wish it had, and by the way it’s a big one, is Bluetooth pairing. Other than that, I love this headset, and I DO recommend it if you’re in the market for one.

I’ve wanted some of the Astro a50s for years (literally). I’d always tell myself maybe they aren’t as amazing as every true gamer says. So I waited. And now that I have them, I wish I would have gotten them yrs ago. They really are amazing. I love them sooo much. I play mainly black ops 4, days gone, fallout 76 and red dead redemption 2. So it’s a variety. I consider myself a hardcore gamer since the ps2 days. Tho I am a little busy nowadays. When I set time aside to game, these make all the difference. While playing COD now I can actually hear what direction the other teams players are coming from. Or when they are walking/running near me. If it’s loud shots they are near if the are lower volume shots they are far. These are true surround sound. Not virtual. That’s why these are a prime price. Worth it 100%. The actual speakers in the headphones sound very very good. Not perfect but well balanced. That’s important to me. They are comfortable as well. Tho I don’t play for 8 hours straight. Lol. They look more expensive as far as design. I do walk to the kitchen and never lose connection or drops. The base station is super sturdy and DOES charge the headset. But this also comes with a micro usb on the bottom of the headset if for some reason you like charging the old way. Make sure to set your ps4 to optical out and select Dolby digital as the preferred sound. Packaging is premium and huge. I’d recommend keeping it forever. Super nice. This comes with an optical wire but you will need one more for proper setup. The base station connects directly to you PS4/PS4 pro(I have a PS4 pro). If you are new to the Astro a50s. You want to start here at the top. You will not be disappointed. You get what you pay for. And these are worth every penny. Good luck and enjoy your gaming happiness like myself.

The gold standard for gaming headphones.

I've always had a soft-spot for Astro gaming gear, especially the headphones. I've owned the A50 in the past, back when it was gen2, I believe. I've also currently have a pair of the A40 TR Editions, which I LOVE. I have those connected to my PC for gaming there. It has been a challenge finding a great pair of headphones for the PS4 because in my experience, most of the headphones have a generally low "overall" volume. Since my last pair of A50's, I've owned at least 4-5 pairs of gaming headphones, all from the top manufacturers. All I'm going to say at this point is that outside of the A40's (wired), the A50's (wireless) are the absolute BEST gaming headphones you can get, currently. Don't get me wrong, there are a few close competitors, especially on the PC front. But for the PS4, the A50's are hands-down the clear winner. As with all Astro products, I love the unboxing experience. Everything is super heavy-duty and packaged so well, you really feel the "premium" of it and that you got what you paid for. Taking everything out, it's so shiny. I was really surprised at how lightweight the actual cans were. And equally impressed with how small (and also lightweight) the footprint was of the base/stand for these. If I had any complaints at just the general, overall "look" of everything, it would be that I wish there were more matte to the design than gloss. But, I can see why the lower half of the base is shiny/glossy - due to all of the LED lights and such that is built into it. So, I can live with that. Setup was dead-on simple, but does have a little bit of REQUIRED reading (more in this in the next paragraph). Regardless of if you plan on using these on PC or PS4, you will first need to ensure they are in "PC Mode", and download the Astro Command Center firmware - which was just updated to support these headphones and was released on Friday, 8/2/2019 (Version 1.0.209 for Windows - there is also a Mac version, too). Once this is done, just plug the included USB cable in, run the Command Center program and you will be prompted to update the base station and the headphones. Just click "Yes" and it will automatically do everything for you. If hooking into a PS4 afterwards, just make sure you switch it back over to PS4 mode prior to hooking up. This review will focus on the PS4 aspect of the headphones, as this is the primary reason why I got them. A40's are perfect for my PC, as the wires are not an issue. PS4, on the other hand, is a different story. I do want to say that if you have a dedicated sound system installed already that your PS4 is hooked into, this headset WILL slightly complicate your setup a bit - but it's WORTH IT. I'm using a Sony HT-Z9F Dolby Atmos soundbar. Simple setup and everything is via HDMI. The base station requires the included optical audio and USB cables to be plugged into the PS4. Once this is done, there are some settings you need to adjust. Please don't let this scare you off - once you do it a few times, it takes no time to make these changes back-and-forth, as you need. Here are the steps to take to set these up, optimally (These were taken from Astro's "Quick Start Guide): 1) From the Dashboard, navigate to 'Settings’ then select ‘Devices' and select ”Audio Devices.” 2) Ensure Input Device is set to USB Headset (Astro A50 Voice) and the Output Device is set to the same. 3) Ensure the Output to Headphones is set to “Chat Audio.” 4) Navigate back to the Settings menu, then select “Sound and Screen.” 5) Navigate to Audio Output Settings, and ensure Primary Output Port is set to Digital Out (Optical) and Audio Format (Priority) is set to Bitstream (Dolby). 6) Change the Input and Output Device to USB Headset (ASTRO Wireless Transmitter). Once this is done, I noticed that audio came from both my headphones AND my soundbar. So, I have to either mute the soundbar or turn it all the way down to 0. However, I have verified with Astro directly that "Chat Audio" is the correct setting. If you use "All Audio", this will render your Game/Voice balance feature useless. Now, you can leave these settings as-is. Docking or turning off your headset will allow audio to output through your receiver/soundbar...but I'm not sure if you will get the correct audio scaling from your receiver without it being set back to HDMI properly (when I do, it switches it back to 7.1 audio). I have one huge PLUS and one huge MINUS regarding the A50's. The PLUS is that they employ a smart auto-on/auto-off feature. So, if you take them off and lay them down, after a few minutes, they will go into standby to preserve battery. Simply pick them up and put them on and you will hear a beep and the headphones power back up. The MINUS is that given the volume is controlled directly by a wheel on the headphones, there is not actual volume level indicator. There's no way of knowing that they are maxed out or not other than scrolling the will and seeing that they are not going any louder (I've experienced this on some game with naturally low-sounding audio). My only other issue is in the length of the USB cable. It pretty much forces you to have your headphones set-up within 3 or so feet of your PS4. So, you may want to invest in a longer USB cable if you plan on displaying these nicely. They also have smart-charging technology built into them, so they will not overcharge if you leave them on the base station for a long period of time. Additionally, while the Xbox version of these are advertised as Dolby Atmos; the PS4 version is not, as the system does not have Atmos capabilities. However, in PC mode, it is Atmos capable. You just do not receive an Atmos code with the PS4 version, like you get on the Xbox version. One final tip that I want to share is with the Game/Voice balance. If you are not using the mic, make sure you press the Game side of the rocker all the way until you hear a beep. This will ensure you are getting the max audio volume from your total volume level. When using the mic, pressing Voice will lower the game volume so you can hear the chat better. There is a chime at the halfway level, then another chime at the full voice level, like there is at the full game level, so you do have an indicator where your balance is. Overall, these are a solid 5 star rating. They are the very best gaming headphones I've ever used on the PS4 and yes, they sound even louder (rivaling my A40's) on the PC. I've never understood why the PS4 has such a naturally "low" volume with headphones, but the A50's completely resolve that! They are beautiful, as well as super comfy (I can't wait to get my mod kit that I pre-ordered!!!) and while they may complicate your setup, it's something I can live with. I have a minor hearing disability and these are one of the few cans I can use and still be wowed and amazed by. Every. Single. Time. Now, my only hope is that when the PS5 comes out (next year?), these will work. Because I really, really want to use these for a very long time. Amazing. If you've made it this far in my review, then I can only say this: Do not hesitate. Add to your cart and buy now. You will not regret it.

Overall great a quality headset but the cons out weight the pros. Pros: -Comfy -Great sound -Great range -Decent battery life Cons: -Price -Software -Charging dock -Charging port -Static I’d recommend buying a set of attics instead for $100 less. I wanted to try these out and I regret paying the $100 up charge for these over the attics.

This is the second one that I purchased. The first was for me, and the second was a Christmas gift for my son. Very easy to set up, and the comfort is excellent, especially with my big head. The battery life is long, even after a long night of gaming. The charging station is vastly superior to the previous design, where the charging fits almost every time. I gave it 5 stars because I got the headset on a huge sale. I would take off half a star if I had to pay full price. If you see a deal, I highly recommend.

I was using the Astro A50 Gen 2 since 2016 and they worked ok with the XBox, but as I played more and more online with friends during this pandemic they would tell me that my mic audio quality didn't sound great and it was difficult to hear me unless I was really loud or move the mic almost into my mouth. So I was skeptical about spending another $299 on a new generation and I thought I might be able to get by on my Gen 2 by getting audio out on my receiver after upgrading my console to the XBox Series X. But unfortunately with my audio setup I wasn't able to get a TOS link connection from either my Stereo Receiver or my TV. So my old headset clearly wasn't going to work. And since I had some gaming sessions planned for that evening I literally drove out to BestBuy right away to pick one up and they were closed (early) but the manager was kind enough to let me in an purchase the headset right away. Got home and I read that Astro A50s Gen 4 would work natively with the XBox Series X|S but would require a firmware update. I unboxed and quickly setup the A50s on my Mac and the software did a great job of detecting the base station and headset and did the upgrade, it was very painless. And I was able to test out the audio settings on my computer and play with the customized EQ settings for side-tone (hearing yourself when you speak so you don't scream in a gaming session) and other levels so I could get the best performance out of it in my Warzone matches. Once this was all setup, I simply needed to plug the base station into the USB on the Xbox Series X and it just detected it as an audio output source and just worked. No need to fuss with anything. Best of all, NO mic cable from the headset to the controller is needed so I am fully wireless! Once I got on with my buddies they were blown away with the vast improvement on my audio chat quality, they said I sounded like I had more bass in my voice, and I already have a deep but not Barry White deep, voice. My friend that I know says that my voice sounds deeper than in person like there's a nice radio talk show mix with my voice. The headset is loud and I play at anywhere from 1/3 to 60% volume, I feel like anything louder and I'll lose my hearing. The headset comes with a redemption code so you can unlock Dolby Atmos on your console, but unfortunately, the unlock is only for 2 years. So I guess I am deferring my Atmos unlock until 2022, probably wait for a sale on the Microsoft Xbox Store as they come every few months. But it's nice to compare using Dolby and Dolby Atmos. You do have to change the output settings in your General Audio settings on the Xbox to get this right and make sure you select Atmos and not Windows Audio X or whatever, otherwise sounds in the game sound sort of like you're under water. Also you have to turn off the Dolby on the base station as you don't need the base station to process the incoming sound and convert it to Dolby if you already have Dolby Atmos coming from the console. As far as comfort goes, these are very comfortable and I could and have gamed for over 12hr sessions in them. I have an average sized head (baseball cap size 7.5) The battery life is excellent (at least for now) I never once had a low battery warning off my longest session, and even charging up only takes a few minutes to get probably an extra hour of play. So those bathroom breaks and snack breaks will be enough charge time to keep these going for marathon sessions. Putting the headset down also places them into "sleep" mode to conserve power but once you pick them up you'll hear a tone to tell you that they are active. Charging is pretty easy as the base has a magnet built in, however, you have to make sure you get both sides to sit right and you see the indicator light turn from white to orange to indicate charging. All and all these are the cream of the crop when it comes to gaming headsets and you can use this on Xbox and PC gaming and probably get great audio for "work from home" scenarios on video conference calls. They do cost a lot but if you enjoy great quality audio and need/want to be wireless I highly recommend these if they are within your budget.

Had 2 pairs of Astro a50 gen 2’s but the battery life starting going bad on then both so picked these bad boys up. Love having fully wireless! I finally don’t have to plug a chat cable in to my controller anymore! Still same amazing a50 sound, comfort, & quality you come to expect from the Astro a50 brand. Only thing I don’t like is the headband isn’t as comfortable as the digs into my head a little but it’s not a big deal. Oh & also the ear Cushions & overall size of headphones are a tiny bit smaller, but im a big guy with big ears & they still fit over my ears well. Also, wish they had Bluetooth functionality so I could use them on my Xbox and also on discord on my phone at the same time like some of the other competing headphones at this price. But the only reason I want that is because I play with a lot of friends that play on PC who chat using discord so if that doesn’t matter to you then again it’s not a big deal. Overall they are SUPERB! I Have them hooked up through USB only to my Xbox series X and they sound great with Dolby Atmos! Have also tried them with optical cable to TV and sound superb that way as well! Would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for headphones. Enjoy :)

My old headset finally died after a good 3 years of use and I was looking for a new solid high-end headset. I picked up this one and I have no regrets. Pros: -Extremely comfortable -quite adjustable; each ear cup can be raised and lowered, and they can twist -There are mod kits for customization -The earcups are magnetically sealed so they come off easily(the magnets are strong, and stay on unless you want to take it off) -Dolby surround sound 7.1!!! -Has a software mix-amp for equalizer settings. -Folding microphone(could be a con for some) -Pretty great highs and lows -Charging base station -Great battery life, has not died on me once -Very solid wireless connection, only disconnects if you go out of range For the cons there honestly aren't many, and many of them are pretty nit-picky Cons: -Base station can be a bit finicky to get the headset properly mounted on it -Microphone isn't the absolute best, but is still pretty decent -Range isn't the absolute best but it still is more than needed -No 3.5mm headphone jack(As far as I could tell) This is a very high quality headset, and the best headset I have personally used, the only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is because of the base station, still not a huge deal and still gets the job done, but the headset itself is phenomenal, and so much customization, I could not recommend any other high end headset more.

Really great wireless headset, sounds good and is comfortable. Price tag is a bit high but I think it’s been worth it. I’ve used it on my Xbox One X and Series X. The only bad thing is when I started using it with my Series X, it doesn’t automatically detect my headset so I always have to unplug and plug it back in.

Best headset I’ve ever had, hands down. Sound quality, comfort, and build quality are all top notch. Like many others, I have bought many lesser headsets only to have them fail, or the sound quality just suck. I can hear footsteps, and other slight audio details I could never hear before. Battery life is excellent, range is excellent, and no hotspots from wearing this headset for 6-8hrs straight, and with glasses on as well. Skip the hassle and buy with confidence. You get what you pay for in this life, and this headset is a perfect example of that.

In short; these sound incredible and you CAN in fact update the firmware on the Xbox via the Astro Command center app. There you can also use the EQ to adjust the sound profiles. The battery lasts about 20 hours also which is good segway to the cons. The base station is barely an improvement over the gen 3 A50’s. The contacts are frustratingly difficult to have set once the headset is placed. The only other con i have is that just like gen 3 A50s, this one also tends to just randomly disconnect, not while in use, but when you’re done gaming with your gaming sesh for the time being, if you were to go back on a few hours later the same day or the next day, it’ll randomly just not be synced up properly where i constantly have to either reset the headset or switch the mode from Xbox to PC for a few moments and then switching it back to Xbox will it reconnect and sync properly.

I knocked a star off for the price tag. $300 is ridiculous. That being said.. huge upgrade from my Logitech g935. First and foremost. Docking station? Yes please. That's exactly what I want when I'm not wearing them. A nice place to store them, that also charges their batteries. I should never have to plug a USB cable into these things. Have these connected to my PC via SPDIF. They are extremely comfortable. The advanced Parametric EQ options are amazing. Also, I'm glad it doesn't use DTS for virtual surround. Using DTS in my g935's I could not hear footsteps in overwatch, so I left the headphones in stereo and used the Dolby Atmos option within the game. Now I can use dolby atmos with everything with the press of a button and I hear footsteps pretty clearly, though i may have some EQ tweaking to do yet. I hope these are the last pair of headphones I buy for a long time. FIrst impressions are, they're awesome.

I absolutely love how lightweight these headphones are and how comfortable they are all while bringing quality sound and bass. Also love the base station and the customizable tuning.

Bought these for my bf for Christmas (I’ve used them too lol) and they’re fantastic. They’re so comfortable that you forget you’re wearing them, they’re lightweight, the battery lasts a long time and the sound quality is great!

This headset is my favorite of all time. Prior, I was using Cloud Flights wireless, and they were not 7.1, but had great quality sound and were comfortable. I used to have the Steelseries Wireless H, which have since been replaced by the Arctis Wireless Pros (i think) and I used to love them especially with their swappable batteries, but the sound never felt as good as I wanted them to be. I will say that I am biased towards deep rich base in my gaming (and movie watching), but still need good treble. I do not care too much for balance or how it is meant to be experience. I care for ooomph and extravagance. I love these headsets. They are my perfect replacements and so far the battery has been more than acceptable (i can get multiple days of long gaming sessions), and mic im told is crystal clear. I take zoom calls for work on these and have not had a complaint. I also game multiplayer and use discord and have not had any complaints. I did not test compared to any others. I cannot speak to quality control, but best buy has a 45 day return policy which is exceptional. I am about a couple of days away from that and have only experienced greatness with these cans and couldn't recommend them any more than I do. Top marks. I tried Gen 2s I think of these headphones and was not satisfied with the issues back then: couldn't turn off with a physical button and battery life was mehhhh. Also no charging station. These issues have been fixed. I will say that I have had the headset not work when turned on a couple of times. But all I had to do was unplug and replug the usb from the base/receiver, effectively resetting the headset. 300 bucks for a headset is not cheap, and I think its worth noting that, but I am fully satisfied with the product. NOTE: I am using this exclusively for pc gaming via the optical output from my pc. Cannot speak to how it works on PS4/5.
