Customers admire the 15.6" Laptop for its ample storage, lightweight design, and backlit keyboard. It is considered a great value for its price and is easy to use. However, the battery life is a significant drawback.

I've been hemming and hawing about what my next laptop would be and I thought it through hard. This 2019 model Asus VivoBook 15 was the clear choice when comparing the price to the features.
Contrary to what two Beat Buy reps told me, the F512DA-EB55 configuration comes with an M.2 PCIe 128GB Solid State Drive for quicker boots than a SATA SSD, and a plentiful 5400RPM SATA hard disk with 1TB of storage for files. This configuration means it should be easy to upgrade to a Crucial P5 SSD later for more program space and even faster boot times. Swap out the clunky hard disk later for a 2TB SATA SSD and you've got yourself a great business machine.
In this configuration, you'll also get a single SODIMM slot loaded with a 2666 MHz 4GB RAM module (mine was a Samsun which I quickly topped out with a Crucial) expandable to 16GB. There is an additional 4GB RAM on-board, shared between the GPU and the CPU. Though I haven't done anything more than start getting this set up, I am very happy so far. The thin profile and bezels make it an attractive looking unit, and it's solid feeling at 1.6 kg. The full HD screen is plenty good enough for the business user. This may not be a Dell Latitude, but it gi es my corporate Dell 5500 a run for its money... at half the cost, a little smaller, a bit lighter, and nearly as quick.
Overall I was ecstatic to get the last one Best Buy had. Good luck getting one for this price. At $544.99 I feel like I won the lottery. And for more money I feel like any step up in an Asus would be worth it. If only it had a number lock indicator on it... Why don't they do that anymore? Speaking of the number pad, that will take a little getting used to. Everything is in three rows, not four, and even those are skinny keys. But they're comfortable, even if theath function keys are all above the numbers and ENTER is a single square key.

It's a nice affordable laptop.
At the moment I only own it for a few days, so I can not say anything about longevity, which is a major factory for me, since I couldn't make my last two cheap Acers last for even 2 years despite lots of superglue and Dremel repairs to keep the screen from falling off the hinges. I only hope this one lasts longer than my last two acers and my last Asus before those.
Now on the features:
I really love the screen! A major improvement over my last laptops. Nice colors, good viewing angle. It does have a bit of a yellowish hue when out of the box, but that can easily be adjusted in the display / graphics driver settings by adjusting the color profile or calibrating the display.
I can only guess, but I suppose they decided to set the factory settings to a less blueish tones to reduce stress on the eyes, which seems to be a new thing.
Anyways, even with me having toned the color profile to a more realistic hue, I noticed that it is somewhat less stressful on the eyes to work on this laptop than it was with previous cheap laptop's screens.
I also absolutely love the backlit keyboard! It also has a fairly good typing feel to it, nothing super high end fancy, but good for a laptop.
I did expect a little more performance boost from the Ryzen 5 over my last Ryzen 3 2200U CPU in my previous laptop.
But that's no complaint, as the Ryzen 3 performed much better than I had expected and it still amazes me how much bang foir the buck that Ryzen3 delivered. But considering the Ryzen 5 in this laptop here has 4 CPU (instead of just 2) cores and 8 GPU cores (instead of just 3) I was hoping for a more noticeable performance improvement. There is a clear and noticeable difference, and I do get slightly higher FPS when playing Star Wars Battlefront II for example, but it's still not quite enough power to completely avoid the occasional FPS drops down to as low as 15 FPS, even at low settings and using a somewhat reduced resolution of 1366x768. So even though it's better than my last, just like my Ryzen 3 laptop it's still not great and rather low end hardware when it comes to gaming.
The built in SSD and HDD drives are really great and appear to be pretty fast components when compared to other common components in the benchmark! I'm also really glad I went with the option that features a small 128GB SSD drive combined with 1TB of HDD storage. For me that is the perfect affordable combination that delivers really good speed for the Cache files of the Windows OS, great boot times, and still enough storage space for saving all the files that I really need and want.
The built in RAM on the other hand is a disappointment. The 4Gb that are soldered onto the mainboard in my unit only runs at 1200Mhz instead of 1333Mhz, the way the replaceable module in the 1 slot does. The memory does run in dual channel, which is good, but since I can't replace the soldered on 4GB with memory I had in my last Ryzen 3 laptop, the performance of the Memory and latency times are slightly slower than on my last laptop and other comparable models. The soldered on RAM also makes the potential for memory upgrades very limited, but I recycled my 8Gb RAM module from my last Acer and upgraded this one to 12GB RAM just like my last laptop had, but because of the slower soldered in 4GB this new laptop has slightly slower latency times and read write performance than my last. The overall performance of this new laptop with the faster CPU and GPU and the SSD drive is noticeably better though, but had the RAM not been soldered in, I personally could have achieved even slightly better performance for free, by installing the compatible RAM modules I already had in my previous Ryzen 3 laptop.
The touchpad is also quite a disappointment. It's not nearly as responsive as I am used to, especially two and three finger gestures tend not to be recognized well, unless you clearly separate your fingers with enough space between them, and even then it can still be "clunky" to use these gestures.
the poor quality of the touchpad (or it's driver software) is the main thing to criticize on this laptop.
It works somewhat acceptably, but I've had (much) better and more responsive touchpads in all my previous laptops for the last 10 years or more.
The battery: well it has a battery so that's good. But that's already it. It's there but it doesn't do much. I keep my laptop plugged in almost all the time and even when I take it somewhere I usually have it plugged in, so I can live with that. But battery life is anything but great and I expect it to be really short once the battery has aged.
Sound is good, could be a little louder, but all budget laptops have tend to have that.
The design is nice, and has a pretty solid feel and it's compact and light for the format.
I'm not a big fan of the peacock blue color, I must admit, but I'm more or less happy with it and I do prefer it over the other color alternatives grey, silver or the orange "coral rush". The peacock blue just changes the tone depending on the angle you look at it and as a result it tends to look a bit much purple-ish blue when you work on it, rather than the nicer slightly green-ish blue tone.
The color somehow also doesn't really make the laptop look very fancy or expensive. But I'm still glad I picked this color, since I believe the slate gray variant looks super dull and cheap, and the two brighter silver and orange color variants will just end up producing distracting reflections on the screen when used in brighter daylight environments.
So I'm happy with my purchase despite the prices having gone way up due to Covid-19.
I can only hope this laptop will last longer than my last budget Acer (and the much older previous Asus) laptops, but that will be for time to tell.
Everything has a fairly solid and good quality feel to it and the few little compromises that come with this affordable low to medium budget laptop, are ones I can very live with and the positives far outweigh them so far

My laptop arrived early than I expected.
But the first 8 times that I used it, the sound was really bad. It was working, but with some wheezing sound. After someday, it became work normally.
The battery could be better, almost every time that I use the laptop, I need to charge it.
I like this laptop, has a lot of storage to put my things, the backlit keyboard is awesome, it has different stages of brightness. The number keyboard and the finger reader are so useful.

I was looking for a laptop with a back lit keyboard, and overall have been happy with the purchase. The laptop is light, easy to use, boots up quickly, and having the back lit keyboard is great. The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is that the battery seems to wear down quickly, faster than the 4 hours its supposed to have. This may be because I like my screen to be brighter than the default settings, but other than that I use it for everyday purposes so it seems like the battery should last longer than a couple hours.

This is my first laptop since 2011 when I had a $200 Walmart HP toaster. I've had it for a few days so far, but impressions are good.
Pros: It's got a buttery smooth touchpad with excellent gesture-based actions, making browsing and navigation blending seamlessly with the operating system.
Responsive fingerprinter recognition system that allows for quick access to your user profiles
The display is clear and smooth making content look crisp and accurate.
Audio quality is pretty good for being a laptop,
The peacock blue color is wonderful and it adds personality to the machine.
Cons: No Facial recognition on a 2019 laptop that already has fingerprint recognition
Battery life is somewhat lacking. at just under four hours of light use, it seems to drain quickly.
The hard drive is 5400 rpm and not 7200, making loading up games a pain.
Overall, this is a quality laptop that is meant for light gaming (struggled somewhat with playing Battlefront 2 (2005). As well as browsing. I wish I had purchased it on sale as opposed to the $550 range I purchased it at.

Best laptop for its price. The screen is huge, and most of the functions works with Linux (I use Ubuntu). I have it dual boot. In Linux, the sleep/hibernation doesn't work properly, and sometimes I have to turn it on with the plug in (this only in Linux, I don't have this issue in Windows).
The material looks like a plastic toy (I have a blue model) but at least is not heavy. It is very handy to have 3 USB ports and 1 USB-C. The keyboard is so big that it even has a keypad on it, this is a luxury for me.

This was a birthday gift for my husband and I can only go by the fact that as soon as he got it he spent the next 2 hours reading over everything and getting it up and running. Like a kid in a candy store. This replaces an older laptop and I relied on my “techie” college son to make the selection

and should have. Bought this to replace my wife's aging HP laptop. The Ryzen 5 with 8 GB of RAM was a solid performer, completing commands instantaneously (or at least that is what it seemed like compared to her old one) and allowing her to multi-task efficiently. The USB 3.0 port made file transfer fast and teh depth of color in the display was amazing. The problem was that the screen would flicker all the time when scrolling on the internet, which her job as a researcher often requires. After some quick research, it seemed to be a Windows problem that could be solved by turning off hardware acceleration. Seemed odd to me that we would need to turn off a 'feature' of the machine, but tried it. Two days later, a perfect vertical line appeared about 1/3 of the way from the right side of the screen - completely dead pixels. Hooked the machine up to an external monitor and the vertical row of black pixels was gone, but the flickering remained. Fearing a poorly constructed machine, we returned the machine to Best Buy for an exchange, but they did not have any more of this model, so we simply returned it. Not totally against Asus at this point, but will be looking harder at the HP line, which has been very good to us in the past, even if it is a little pricier.

Dear OldDogLearningNewTricks,
Indeed, the laptop does have a solid performance. Certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused you.
All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, and are built to last, this is a random problem. Normally, ASUS provides one year warranty coverage, if product was purchased brand-new, in order to fix or repair any hardware or, part that stop working prematurely under normal usage.

I got this for my daughter. She is big into gaming, producing videos, and art. It is great for any of those things. Her drawing tablet connected just fine. The backlit keyboard is wonderful as well. Anything she has needed has worked without a hitch.
I had previous good experiences with ASUS in the past and I would certainly buy one again after this purchase. I like have the choice of AMD CPU's (which this has) as well.
All in all, early into our ownership, everything is positive so far.

I like Asus computers. I really couldn't afford to buy the same computer as the one that crashed. Bought this one because I don't really use touch screen and losing that feature would not be a big deal. This computer is working well except for a few minor blinks. The speakers jammed and now sound a little tinny. I can live with that. The issue I have is the fan. It gets very loud which my other Asus did not. I am hoping this is just a game issue and not something that happens every time I use it.
All in all, for the money, it works.

Recently got this computer and it is everything that I am looking for in a laptop. It is perfect to do normal computing tasks like checking email, surfing the net etc, and play casual computer games that don't need the latest system. The SSD is super fast and it starts up almost immediately. The only downside I have run into is the battery life, if you are doing anything intensive I would recommend that you keep it plugged in. Recommend for anyone looking for a mid range laptop.

Bought this to replace a Lenovo Ideabook which was horrid -- slow, crash prone, unusable touchpad, etc.... This pc boots very quickly, is surprisingly fast, decent battery life and very nice display.
