This was my first gaming laptop purchase in over 10 years. After deciding not to build a new PC I figured I should look for a desktop replacement.
Definitely not disappointed with the looks and performance. I purchased upgraded memory from Teamgroup Team Elite (2x32GB 3200MHz DDR4)
Storage needed upgrading and I went with Samsung (EVO Plus NVMe) for super quick read and write speeds.
This was perfect match with my external Samsung 1440p 144MHz monitor. AMD FreeSync works with the nVidia 2060.
I'm really happy with my purchase and I'm glad that I chose Best Buy because everything went smoothly. Highly recommended.

Powerful Laptop with a subpar display

As far as the CPU and GPU, this is a great laptop. Best Buy screwed up and showed that this had a 144 Hz display on their listing, which would be great and make this an exceptional value. I was very disappointed to find that this was false information and it indeed has a standard 60 Hz display. I am planning on returning it.
Overall, it's a decent value, but all that power is pretty useless with a 60 Hz display on a gaming laptop. Unless FPS don't matter to you, you would be better off spending less money on a different setup.

Bought on Black Friday for 799 so, Value for price it’s great. Yes it run a little hot. Fans can be turned up. Yes the panel on this is not the best. But what it has under the hood can complete with desktops. I added 2 8gb (16 gb) so it will run in dual channel and that help to pick up more power. Take note that if you buy memory to upgrade it do not buy memory that needs an XMP profile and the voltage increased to reach a speed of 3200mhz. IT WILL NOT WORK!!! You need memory that runs at 1.2 volts with a JEDEC profile that automatically runs at 3200MHZ.

I definitely really love this laptop. Coming from a 2014 Asus laptop, this one is a HUGE leap forward. The screen is only 60Hz, but that doesn't bother me because I've never used a monitor with a faster refresh rate. It's been able to handle any game I've thrown at it so far at the highest settings. It's also been a great experience using it with Android Studio. I do like that the keyboard is RGB backlit; even with it being only one zone. I usually keep it on one color so its not distracting. And yes, you can turn it off. I also put a 1TB HDD in it, and the HDD holes didn't line up with the cradle holes, so I think the cradle was designed for thinner drives, like an SSD. However everything works just fine so i'm not worried about it. I'd definitely recommend this laptop for anyone that wants to get a good gaming laptop for a decent price, and doesn't care about monitors above 60Hz.

Best Gaming laptop under 1000

Great gaming laptop for the price. To get the full performance i would definitely recommend adding atleast 8gb more ram, there is an empty slot. Also there is an empty Nvme ssd port as well so upgrading memory is easy too. Would give 5 stars if i didn't have to add ram and ssd myself. Only one downside is the laptop gets too hot while gaming. I found out it was because the ryzen 7 processor was always running on 100% capacity so to fix it all i did was limit it to run at 99% capacity while i am gaming and temps fell below 80 degrees which is normal while gaming.

This is a great Laptop. Great Video card. Everything else is the base minimal option available, which is why it’s so cheap. This build includes the Smallest/Weakest Hard Drive, Ram, Battery, and Screen options. If you want double battery life, a bigger faster hard drive, a second hard drive option, more Ram or the 144Hz screen then go to Amazon. Otherwise it’s a GREAT laptop!

Insane specs with compromises

You've seen the specs, you know they are great. I got mine on sale for 900. You can't find even a desktop for 900 with these specs. I mainly wanted to talk about the thermals. If you've seen some reviews you probably have heard that this device runs hot. To be exact mine hit 90 degrees Celsius and over. That's just to hot for any computer. Asus claims it's a safe temperature but I don't buy it. If you didn't know high temperatures decrease the lifespan of the computer. Overall the specs are amazing, all it needs is some more ram and your set. Just be aware of those temps.

This laptop is a beast! Under 1200$ there isn't any laptop that can match it's performance. The screen is only 60fps if that matters for you. Remember that this laptop absolutely needs a mouse because the touchpad is just atrocious. That's the reason I took off a star. You can increase the ram fair a few more bucks and level up this already great machine to another level.
Also, if you plan on installing Linux operating system, you might not be able to use this laptop at its full potential. Nvidia doesn't fully support the Linux/Ubuntu just saying. Peace!

This a peaty good entry level Gaming Laptop. For someone who doesn't want to spend 1000+ plus on a gaming system, this is the system for you. Make sure to wait until around black Friday time because its $200 off. The graphics are good and can run pretty much every game you want. I have been able to run high quality games like Rainbow Six, Valorant, and Apex. The one problem I have with it is the support from MyAsus that is pre installed on the PC it pretty much dose nothing. Besides that I would buy and you will for sure enjoy

This particular version is important. If you buy the version with a 1TB HD, you get a smaller battery and one memory slot( I think). I bought this one because of the full size battery. 8GB is not enough. Purchased a 16GB stick. Yes it has 2 memory slots. Already had an external 7200rpm HD. This version of windows Home has been tweaked by ASUS. Several things are ghosted in power options. It runs super hot. As it is always on MAX performance. There is a REGISTRY tweak on the NET that allows you to reduce the performance to normal. Otherwise the FANS can be really loud.

This laptop works good, and for the sale it was on it is great. But, I’m very confused about the thermal setup of this computer, the fans are pretty small and the intakes on the bottom of the chassis aren’t even over the fans themselves. And the computer does get pretty loud as well but that is expected with a laptop. But it works well, just wish that the cooling solution was better.

For this price and what you get you can’t beat this. If you’re looking for a high performance laptop that can stay performing nicely then this is it. The extra cooking helps keep the machine in too condition over the years. I’ve had similar products from asus and don’t expect anything less from this laptop. I like the form factor and the light up keyboard. Ice touch with how the screen connects to the other half (keyboard) - it sits up about an inch or so and makes a world of difference with the angle of my neck. Highly recommended!

I bought this gaming laptop for my son to replace his aging non-gaming laptop. He needed something faster and with high enough graphics to play MS Flight Simulator 2020, GTA 5, Farming Simulator 20, and a number of other games. I was impressed with the fact that it has a built in open slot to add an additional HDD/SSD, and it also has room for expansion for the RAM. We immediately added a 1TB SSD and 32GB of RAM. He definitely has no complaints. It runs all of his games smoothly with no issues and the graphics looks awesome.

Great 60fps gaming at Ultra Settings. I got the mega deal for this at 799. Added 1 tb NVME SSD for about 100. Bought 16 gigs of ram and took the 1 8gb out. For less than a grand I have one of the best gaming laptops at 60hz less than 1500. When traveling for work I carry a 24inch monitor and a bluetooth keyboard, mouse and xbox one controller. The setup works flawlessly. It does get a hot during extended gaming so don't keep it on your lap. I put min on a cheap 20 dollar cooler at home and run cables to a desk monitor.

Great laptop for the price! Fantastic graphics card and processor. I needed a laptop that would work with 3D modeling software and it works well. However, the RAM needs to be upgraded for you to really get the benefits from this laptop, 8GB doesn't cut it. One other think I would have liked upgraded would be the Storage 512GB is a bit small, but there are slots where you can increase storage which is great (M.2 and a SSD 2.5 port)! The laptop is surprisingly light, looks great and has a nice battery life.

I've used this almost daily for the last year and half now.
Starting off with the bad. The trackpad gets a 0/10. It frequently just...stops working. It takes a good minute or so for it to slowly resume full functionality. The network card is terrible and outright stopped working with Linux completely as 50% of packages would drop and speeds were maxing out in the kbps range. Realtek is terrible. Replaced with an Intel AX210 and it's been great. The thermal paste from factory is cheap garbage, I was idling at 70°C at desktop and the laptop would overheat while sleeping. I used thermal grizzly kryonaut and .5mm thermal pads on the GPU memory (which were originally pasted) and my temps idle below 30°C now. Battery is okay but don't expect more than 5-6 hours of heavy use. Overall, it has good bones to work with and it's easy to disassemble. Asus would be better served abandoning Realtek components.
