one of the best laptops for $1000
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this computer to replace my old Lenovo since I was going to college. I wanted something I could play games on (in high settings) and something I could edit movies on smooth and fast. So far this computer is just that. I'm also loving the full resolution touch screen. The color representation is very nice with the contrast ratio and viewing angles, it always looks good. Another plus is how I got free Microsoft Office and an antivirus! This was almost a deal breaker for me. I like how I can purchase basically twice the computer for the same or cheaper price, than if I bought a MacBook. To see other people pay $1200 for a MacBook air makes my purchase seem even more like a good deal. my only complaint is that the laptop is a little on the heavy side. I guess something has to give since everything else about the laptop is amazing. ASUS makes great products. I also wish it had a blu ray drive so I could burn blu rays, but oh well.

From my really good laptop to a GREAT laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love everything about my new laptop. I had a really good, well equiped Dell that I loved and hated that it finally went out on me. So, as I began searching for a new one, I knew I wanted all the features my Dell had, but more. After comparing it to a Dell I would have had to have made to order, I got everything I was looking for an more in the Asus! Great speed, great graphics for my games, and touchscreen. I love it.

Overall great computer with minor quirks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, I like this computer. I like the display, the overall performance, the keyboard, the speakers are awesome. Some things I haven't liked about it are sometimes when I use an app, the sound won't work even though I don't have the computer muted. I need to close and end the program and reopen it in order for it to work. The touch screen is also the same way in the sense that sometimes it chooses not to work and I need to restart the computer to fix it. Also, the external subwoofer doesn't always work when plugged in. I also need to continually change the power settings between plugging/unplugging the computer from the battery saving mode to the high performance mode. I'm only impressed with the computer's performance when it's in high performance mode, and I think it's a nuisance to always need to change it back. These are minor issues, though, and overall I am happy with the computer.

Great mid price range notebook!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm new to the whole windows 8 operating system. So not only was I learning about my great new notebook but OS too. If u don't buy a touch screen I would definitely consider sticking to windows 7. The computers power is great and the next gen processor gives you the option to run it for battery or power. A true feature for my gaming or on the go business.

Great performance value.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hi, First, this laptop is a great value! I use it for work from home uses and as a replacement for a desktop Alienware X51 that I gave my kid brother. While it doesn't play as smoothly (at max settings) as my desktop (hardly to be expected), it does play the games well enough for me to not worry about a gaming desktop replacement until it is a problem. The display is fantastic and that it is a touchscreen is double-whammy bargain. The external subwoofer is weird and I'm not sure how I feel about it but it does work to augment the laptops own speaker system (I use external speaker set). The keyboard and touchpad work well and are comfortable. The design, feel and weight are just about right for the class of laptop that it is (i7, NVidia). Bluetooth and WiFi work well. My only big gripe is that the palm rest just under the left side of the keyboard gets warm enough (not hot) to make playing games or extended work uncomfortable without something in between. What would I change? Nothing, I knew what I was getting. My minor gripe is that occasionally the machine seems to stutter. There are a lot of in-memory programs running to enable the hotkeys, wifi, graphics, etc. but I haven't decided the stuttering to be enough of an inconvenience so as to give up the short-cuts. Would I reconsider? Only if I was interested in spending another 1K or so for another dedicated gaming laptop such as the Razer Edge.

Solid good laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall a good unit, Got it because the HP 17" I bought died twice in 6 months, they suggested I pick a different brand. This is a solid good unit. Light weight, Great display (although I wish the had a 17" version) color and graphics are excellent. Stays cool much better than most and has a long battery life. Overall a great unit for the price BUT WINDOWS 8 IS A ROYAL PAIN

It's a nice laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like this laptop a lot. I've been using it for school mainly, and I'm hoping to use it for digital art soon. I would've waited until I got around to that to write this review, but that might be awhile. If I have any issues with it, I'll come back in and add a comment. I've watched some dvds on it and enjoyed the experience. The picture and sound quality were nice. The additional speaker that came with my purchase works very nicely. This has been my first experience using a touch-screen laptop and I really enjoy that aspect of it. I have no complaints about performance where gaming is concerned. For my purposes, I'm only limited by the quality of my internet connection. My only criticism at the moment is that the screen (which is understandable) and all of the other surfaces pickup smudges/dirt/ etc. really easily. Markedly so. The screen itself isn't too hard to clean but the other surfaces seem to hold onto smudges pretty well. Anyway, all in all, I think this laptop is a good multi-tasker. I feel like I could do (basically) whatever I want with it. Which is why I selected this particular model.

This high-end laptop is perfect for gaming.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First time buying ASUS product and so far the laptop is outstanding for gaming and any graphics intense application. The 2gb video card coupled with the I7 processor makes this laptop a real powerhouse. The touch screen monitor, lighted keys and premium sound are icing on the cake. I bought the ASUS brand because its reputation for quality and it has lived up to its name.

Wonderful
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I chose this laptop because it has what I was looking for. It has the i7 core processor, HDMI input if ever needed, a TB of memory, a number pad and keyboard. Though it's rather large and heavy, it's also quite durable and will definitely last me more than 5 years. On top of all of that, it's quick loading and simple. Though many people aren't used to Windows 8, it's truly not hard to become familiar with, and with Windows 8, there's the option to switch to the favored desktop mode anyway if disliked so much. I bought this laptop for personal use as well as school use. I like to play games, watch movies, check emails, and surf the web. For school use, I need all Microsoft Office programs along with additional programs for my engineering classes such as AutoCAD. I need it to run quickly and easily without delay. So far, so good! Though it's pricey, in the end I think it's going to be worth it.

Really nice computer with lots of power
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great Laptop with lots of power and speed. It has a great cam and the speakers are really exceptional. It comes with Window's 8.0 and I couldn't get the upgrade till a few days later to 8.1. The problem was, I had just got it all set up like I liked it then when the upgrade came, had to do it all over again. If you have use computers a long time, Window's 8 and 8.1 are really a pain to work with, but they say it will get better. I am going to go back to Windows 7 until it does. The only thing that I really had to get use to was the spacing of the keys on the keyboard. They are a little further apart than normal, but having the back lighting is really nice. It really has a big plus in the battery life between charging. I am really impressed with how long I can go between charges compared to some the other Laptops I have had. All the extras (Camera, speakers, USB ports) are really good. If you play music you will really like the bottom front speakers and the extra plug in woofer. Very impressive sound. The Video card could be better if you like to play games and I am not sure yet if it is upgradeable. I am really satisfied with the Laptop and I am a true believer in ASUS motherboards. I am sure I will get my use out of it. Also, the price is a pretty good price and there are still some upgrades I can do to it.

Nice Replacement
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We got this as a replacement for the Asus that accidentally got dropped. We liked our old one so when we saw this one was a touchscreen, is an i7 (our old one was an i5), and was basically the same format, we went for it. Except for one week where we upgraded to 8.1 and it reset the fan to 100% all the time and the screen blacked out, we're happy with it. Luckily, it just took us turning it on and off quickly and a quick reboot. Haven't had any problems since.

Overall Well-Pleased
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always owned Dell laptops and have been very pleased with all of them. In researching for another computer, I finally decided on this one because of the price for a newer model with a 1080 display. I was also hesitant about switching to Windows 8, but I have really come to enjoy it. I was disappointed after I bought it and realized it did not have a vga port, but I was able to work around it. It does required carrying an extra adapter with me though. Overall, I am very please with this computer and would recommend it highty!

Great for the desk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great laptop for price, overall functionality is good. When running games in normal graphics I got 60fps on ARMA III (beta). Unfortunately was forced to take back (twice) due to poor manufacturing design flaw of LCD touchscreen and how it is secured to aluminum top cover or screen. When I opened the screen on the first Asus Q550LF I returned, the bezel delaminated from the LCD screen which caused the screen to become loose at the pivot point of the screen attachment shelf. Out of good faith I exchanged for same laptop model and even tested in the store and initially found functional. As soon as I started using the second laptop everything was functional but as soon as I closed it the bottom left bezel cracked, same location as the first one. Gluing plastic to aluminum for a LCD screen is not a great engineering design. --Do not recommend, screen bezel is not durable and is subject to delamination and cracking which could ultimately damage and crack the LCD screen and digitizer. NOTE THIS HAPPEND ON TWO SEPERATE LAPTOPS SAME MODEL.

Sweet Gaming Laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Laptop gets hot, BUY A FAN. Still amazing. Graphics are fantastic, runs all of my games on top specs without any lag. Touch Screen is useful and responsive, although I don't use it very often. The sub woofer that comes with it is interesting but unnecessary. I don't ever carry it around with me.

Outstanding performance for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was looking for something with a little more graphics processing capability than my other Asus unit. I picked this up as an open box item as I did not like the matte screen on the larger asus. It did not disappoint when I got it home. Graphics intense games look great although it does run a little hot after it has been on a while. Beautiful screen and looks great and for the price I was able to pick up a 42" 1080p 120 hz tv for the same price as the 17" Asus. Win.

Awesome computer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always been skeptical about Windows 8 and the new look. But that did take a little getting used too. In my opinion Windows 8 is better than Windows 7. The computer itself is phenomenal, it boots quick. And also works with every game I have thrown at it thus far with no performance degredation. Everything is being run in high graphics and there is no lag. I love it.

Windows 8 a Challenge
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Windows 8 is very had to get used to, and I work with technology. I originally was not going to get a touch screen, but am so glad I did now. Ended up having to take it back to the Geek Squad because the user profile corrupted within 8 days of owning the machine, but I think that as a Windows 8.1 issues. Machine works great now and I am slowly learning the new operating system.
