Customers are pleased with the keyboard responsiveness, performance for gaming and general use, and the large screen size of this Chromebook. Positive feedback also highlights the excellent battery life and sufficient RAM for multitasking. While some find the device heavier than expected, the overall experience is largely positive. ChromeOS Has A New Convert!

I have to admit I knew very little about the Chromebook before I received the Asus 15.6" Touchscreen Chromebook. The learning curve has been a bit of a challenge because I initially approached the entire experience with the expectations it would be just like any other computer I had ever owned. But the "philosophical" differences became quite apparent right from the start.
The Chromebook is, and always has been designed as a cloud computer, that is, your files are stored in the cloud and can be accessed from any other computer with access to the cloud. This frees up the burden of needing a lot of storage built in to the laptop itself. Okay, I am liking it so far. Because it requires so little storage needs, the system can operate at much faster speeds. Now I am really liking it. Google offers a wide array of apps that are compatible with many Microsoft applications that are easily accessible via the web, such as Word, Excel, and so on. At this point I am pretty much sold on the idea of the Chrome OS.
It was only when I understood that Chrome OS was never designed to be just another version of Windows or MacOS, but was intended to stand on its own merits as a viable and needed alternative to the other two operating systems, that I began to appreciate its true value.
But let me address the ASUS laptop. As always, ASUS designed a beautiful laptop, elegant, durable, and worthy of the ASUS brand. It sports a rather impressive Intel 11th Gen Core i5 processor. This particular processor far out--performs many other processors in laptops costing much, much more. With 8 GB RAM, it has the ability to execute several tasks at the same time, and is certainly capable of staying up to speed with everything it is designed to do. I experienced zero lag with anything I tried to do.
One of the greatest things I like about the ASUS/ChromeOS marriage is that it even allows users to enjoy several rather engaging online gaming experiences such as Fortnite, Halo, and others, making the ASUS not simply a dedicated boring work computer! The graphics card, the Intel UHD Graphics 630, is a decent graphics card, and that's all it is intended to be. My gosh, at this price point, I was highly impressed.
Listen, for people who are looking for a great work computer with the ability to enjoy a little fun during down time, this is the perfect choice...touchscreen, lit keyboard, plenty of storage, and super battery life. I have only had a little while to get used to the ChromeOS, but I can see that I am now a solid convert. Of course, if you have already been using the ChromeOS, I don't need to try and persuade you, but if you are, or have been curious in the past, let me assure you it is absolutely worth giving it a try.
I will most certainly be encouraging my friends and family to get this ASUS Chromebook.

As a moderate gamer, I’ve seen a lot of devices being dubbed as “Gaming” just because the companies are trying to appeal to the new gamers and nostalgic gamers that are resurfacing due to the comeback of retro gaming devices.
This Asus “Gaming” Chromebook or should I say Cloud Gaming, falls into that realm of just another branding trend. For those that are looking for a inexpensive laptop to game on, lets get this out of the way now… This Is Not A Gaming Laptop. It is a Chromebook with a little bump in hardware specs that enable some gaming via cloud services. There is not enough Ram virtual or storage to play high graphic intense games. It does however come with the most minimum requirements of 8gb ram, 256gb memory, and a capable Intel i5 processor that will allow suitable playability of most “App” games found on most app stores such as Google play, Apple store, or any such app stores used for mobile and tablet. So with that being said, this Asus Chromebook is much better than a typical tablet but not as good as a laptop.
I used this to play games via my Xbox gamepass and played many games via the cloud gaming app and some co-op games via the cloud. I was somewhat impressed. This Chromebook is BIG. It is a hefty 5 pounds but is solidly built and I do not feel that I have to be extremely gentle when carrying it around. The 1080p screen is clear and smooth with 144hz refresh rate and Intel graphics processor. Another big up is that it has a touch screen which makes things so much easier when in tablet mode, Tent, or Stand which also added a sense of pleasure being to play games while only viewing the large screen and not being distracted or drawn to the keyboard while using my connected wireless controller. I do wish that a mouse (small or gaming) would have been included with this Chromebook since it is being branded as gaming. The Bluetooth capability was good with no hiccups connecting to a Xbox controller. I didn’t use headphones initially because I’m a fan of Harmon Kardon sound devices and that is what is included on this platform. The sound did not disappoint and added another level of desirability to using this Chromebook. The included 256gb SSD allowed far speedy transitions of apps and startup and also allowed for downloading several streaming and gaming apps. Mind you, I did say gaming apps because the modern game downloads will eat up this 256 SSD super quick. The Wifi 6 capability is always a mystery to me because some devices say it works flawlessly and faster, but I haven’t always seen that to be the case and it is the same with this Chromebook. It could be where and how I was trying to game at times using my personal mobile hotspot and the area, but the gaming was not always playable because off lag and freezing. I was pushing the limits of cloud gaming by playing some games like Ghost Recon Break Point and Wildlands at some high settings. I was able to play, but not as well as I would have liked. I can say that the screen is excellent for gaming and the speakers are also holding their own. What did surprise me was the cooling fan or entire cooling system this Chromebook has… It is not mentioned much but heat dissipation is big while trying to game on a device such as this. Yes, this is only made for cloud gaming, but the cooling system on this Chromebook is surprisingly efficient and some laptops could use something along these lines. I can actually feel the airflow in and out of the device and the temperature difference of the two. They did a great job keeping this device cool while gaming.
Like a laptop though, you will probably want to only game while the plugged into a power source because the battery drains fairly quick and the game play slows down or lags quit a bit when not plugged in.
I also used this to stream some of my tv/movie apps. Most worked very well with the huge screen and nice speakers. The only down point is that on some streaming apps, there is a flickering of the screen while watching. I tried adjusting some settings, updates, all that I could think of, nothing fixed the flickering. I am not sure what or why this is happening and hopefully can find a solution as I do enjoy using this Chromebook over a tablet or my mobile device (cell phone) to play and stream at times.
Now for anyone wanting to purchase a gaming laptop I would not recommend this Chromebook. If you are looking for an alternative to a tablet with a bigger screen and more capabilities, then yes I would recommend. I am curious how this Chromebook will function after upgrading the Ram and adding memory which tit does have extra slot to do so. Maybe in the future I will do that and see how long I can keep this Chromebook usable.

Speedy, Great Resolution and Awesome Battery Life!

I feel like ASUS is really doing it again and again. I have now had several of their products and have yet to be disappointed. This 15 inch gaming touchscreen Chromebook is excellent and no exception. First for it not being a true PC, it still comes with a 256GB SSD and 8GM of RAM running on an Intel i5 processor. Booting is done in seconds and I'm up and running in no time.
The monitor has up to 1920x1080 HD resolution and is very crisp. As an additional benefit, it's a touchscreen that also folds in half so I can use it as a tablet at any point. Whether watching a movie or playing a game that works well with touch, that feature is now a must have.
The battery is great as well. After charging it to full, I have easily gotten about 10 hours in total use between two movies and some light gaming with some good graphics. Network connectivity is really good but make sure you have a strong WiFi signal so that when streaming your content, you avoid buffering, lag or dropped connectivity. In my case, I have not had any of that.
The sound of the built in Harmon Kardon speakers is very good as well. Decent bass and treble without changing any type of settings. I also paired my over the ear noise cancelling headphones very easily so I didn't bother everyone else. Again, the sound is great and the pairing process was very smooth.
When thinking about a purchase like this, keep in mind this is a Chromebook and not a full fledged desktop or laptop computer. Although built like an entry level MS Windows machine, some of your everyday apps won't work natively, but if they have the ability to work direct from a browser, you should be just fine.
There are ample specs on this Chromebook to make for a great secondary entertainment device that can be used for some of your non-movie or gaming activities. I would absolutely recommend this as long as you keep in mind what it would mainly be used for. Great job ASUS!

The Asus 15 5" touchscreen Cloud Gaming Chromebook has worked out really well for me. Some people have complained about the weight, and I definitely wouldn't call it light at over 4 lb, but I normally tell people if an extra pound or 2 is too much for you, maybe a few trips to the gym are in order. Besides, this isn't a tablet, it's a laptop.
Chrome OS happily runs along on the Core i5 processor, 8 gigs of RAM is more than sufficient, and a 256 gig SSD is plenty for a Chromebook.
This Chromebook is slim and the build quality seems really good. The hinge allows the screen to be flipped over on itself if you want to hide the keyboard. Because it's a large laptop, there is room for a number pad, which is a plus. And battery life is phenomenal. Design wise, my only complaint is with the matte black finish. While it looks great, it shows fingerprints like crazy. Get yourself a good cloth and be prepared to clean it regularly.
But how does it do with gaming? All of the games I played had great graphics and smooth motion. I'm really into cars, so the majority of the games I play are racing games. With both Asphalt 9 and Real Racing 3, frame rates seem good, and graphic quality was excellent.
The ASUS Cloud Gaming Chromebook works great for its intended purpose, but doubles as a general purpose laptop. And I feel like the price is fair for what you're getting. No regrets here.

Unboxing was straight forward and the unit arrived with a well designed box that was solid and had minimal plastic.
First off it had a good feel in the hand though at 4.17 pounds it is quite a bit heavier than my other chrome book. That being said it is quite a bit lighter than my two other gaming laptops that come in at a hefty 5.33 and 5.55 pounds. At this weight it is manageable and much more travel friendly especially with a precision-engineered 360° ErgoLift hinge that smoothly adjusts the display to any angle while lifting and tilting the keyboard into the most comfortable typing position. This alone makes the thought of using it while flying or even lounging makes a huge difference. The hinge action is very sturdy and has a secure feel that I think will last well.
Also, contrary to my other gaming windows based laptops it has a touch screen that is very responsive. Squeezing a number pad in is a mixed blessing as I really like the convenience for data entry it does add considerable size but all in all I think it is worth it as the extra width allows for a 16∶10 aspect ratio for a boost in vertical space compared with 16∶9 panels.
This is Chrome OS based so if you are a google docs person you are in good shape. I suppose I am a bit old fashioned so some of the differences can be annoying at first but after an adjustment period I was feeling comfortable. Being a cloud based device installing Office is, as far as I understand, not an option though with OneDrive or a Office 360 subscription you should be fairly functional.
Because this is a cloud based machine gaming requires that you access your games and other content virtually. My nephew was happy with the response of the gaming experience though not all games are compatible. I also have a very fast fiber internet connection which I think helps greatly. I haven't had a chance to try this at a local fast food place or on a plane and look forward to seeing how that might effect how it works.
The display is very pleasant to watch and provides an immersive gaming experience. The sound is exceptional for a device of this size though I would be inclined to use headphones most of the time. The movement keys are highlighted for easy recognition. I do like that it has a full size HDMI port to use an external monitor as well as a built in media reader that supports SD, SDHC and SDXC memory card formats.
All in all this is an adequate device that balances size, performance and other factors into a useful bundle.

I’ve always had some love for chromebooks—only because I am a google fanboy. But real love for it—not really: usual hardware specs have always been super mediocre, and cheap—perhaps because chromeOS is not very hardware-demanding. But I feel like they are all cheap laptops for middle schoolers— EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE.
First of all, if it weren’t for the chromebook logo, I would not think it is a chromebook. Don’t get me wrong, even the chromebook logo on this machine looks very premium. The build is top notch—the feel, the hinges, the texture, the color—it is a premium Asus product.
Just some items that need work perhaps is the screen—the colors look a little washed out. And the keyboard is a little cramped. However, the keyboard feel is NICE and the clicks and softness of the keys are phenomenal. The touchscreen is pretty responsive too and seems to handle game blasts, magic and explosions without tearing. Sound is great too—surprising coming from a chromebook (as you can tell, I’ve never really experienced chrombooks like this!)
Performance-wise, this is where this machine shines—IT IS VERY IMPRESSIVE. Of course, I will not expect me to play insane titles in this machine, however, it runs very smooth. Before I get into what smooth is, take this, I actually placed this in my two monitor USB-C port set up. I am running three screens. I have my emails on the native display, I have Raid Shadow legends on max settings and have Roblox running on the third screen. It does get a little tricky to play Roblox because it considers it a tablet—so tip for the multi-screeners, drag out of the app into your email browser screen, then go to the second app (Raid) to switch between fullscreens (or just learn the chromebook shortcuts). But with Raid on full screen in one monitor and playing roblox on the other—Roblox was not even hiccupping—on a 90W USB C extender! That I will say is the real world test.
Anyway, that set up was great—external speakers, wireless keyboard and mouse—everything handled by this machine, like it is a regular PC. What a game changer it is. Now of course, being a chromebook, it’s easier to load apps from the google play store—email, tools etc. Again, don’t expect A-titles—ChromeOS has a lot of apps for your dailies and this machine is way capable.
The machine is not even an i7 or has a dedicated video card, or has 16GB RAM, but it handles casual gaming like a champ. I think this is the best device for elementary kids to middle schoolers. Because chromebooks are the staple for Los Angeles schools, so the school apps are well-suited, and they can play games on it too without you, parents, having to buy your kids crazy gaming machines. And seriously, people now are more attuned to tablet and phone use—this machine will be a great work tool for most people.
This is more than enough—way more than enough. This changed the way I look at chromebooks. Good job on this Asus!
