Not happy, but not sure who to be upset with.

I purchased this Chromebook for my middle child because she is doing her senior year from home. I purchased the ASUS brand because I got my oldest daughter one for her first year of college, and she absolutely loves it. This one is a different model but the graphics are amazing plus the memory. I bought this Chromebook on 8/18/20223, and we didn’t receive it until 8/23/2023. My daughter went to use her Chromebook earlier this week and it wouldn’t do anything. There was nothing but a black screen. The power light on the side would flash every 4 seconds which when I looked it up it said it had something to do with the motherboard. I brought it in and went to the return desk and he sent me to the Geek Squad. She messed with it for a while and found that if you hold down the power button and the refresh button it wakes up or resets the battery for the motherboard. I asked her with this being a brand new Chromebook should I be worried about this. She said, well we can swap it out but I don’t think you will have any more issues out of it. Then she said I needed to make a decision because today 8/30/2023 was the last day I could do anything. Which was surprising to me considering I did pay for it on the 18th, but did not receive it until the 23rd. So again, I’m not sure if I should be upset with ASUS or with Best Buy right now. But I’m not very happy. I just wanted to know from the tech at Geek Squad why it did that in the first place, and a solid yes or no on whether to replace it.

We sincerely apologize for the poor experience you had with your ASUS Chromebook not booting properly. This is definitely not the norm and is not the kind of quality to expect from ASUS products. This may happen sometimes if there is a buildup of static electricity on the motherboard of the device, this is to prevent damage from the device. Holding the power button and refresh key essentially hard resets the device, this does not affect any files or programs on the device, and should allow you to boot normally after the static electricity has been discharged.
