Only down fall is the obvious 60hz. I was mad at first and almost returned it. But this computer is still awesome. It's an upgrade for me from an Acer nitro, and this thing runs circles around it. I love the case and its built well. The graphics are great and it stays pretty cool. I feel like most of the haters for this laptop are advanced gamers. This is a great deal at 899. It runs like a nuclear submarine.

I purchased this laptop as a replacement for my 12 year old dell laptop so it goes without saying that I like to find laptops which will last. I was extremely excited to see that best buy had this unit on sale for $900 for Black Friday as I've been saving up for it at the stock price of $1400 and really needed a new system. Overall I am very pleased with the system, it is very fast, has decent battery life while I am working (about 6 hours without playing GPU intensive apps), has a great keyboard and amazing speakers.
When I initially saw the specks I had two concerns:
1. A 4-cell battery would not be enough for my long commutes to work. (I commute 1.5 hours each way)
2. Best Buy had downgraded the LCD from the 144Hz listed on the Asus website down to a 60Hz screen to reduce cost.
After three days of use now I can say that the battery is not much of an issue. I'm a software engineer and write multi-threaded micro-services on docker and I am able to get 6 hours of use out of the system. Please note that the battery indicator on the bottom right of the screen may say 1 hour when you initially charge the system, this seems to be a bug. If you check periodically you will find that the battery percentage reading changes periodically. I do enjoy playing Final Fantasy 14 and other MMORPG titles on my downtime, and have noticed that the battery will drop down to 1 - 2 hours depending on the title. This for me is not a big deal however, since I always keep the charger plugged in while gaming so I don't get interrupted while raiding. Overall I am very pleased with the Battery.
The LCD downgrade isn't too noticable but it is aggrivating to think that it should be better. I've done some investigation and managed to locate a screen replacement for about $180 which I'll probably do after the holidays. I would highly recommend just changing the screen if you are comfortable doing your own laptop repairs and want to maximize your cost savings.
One issue I do have with the system is the track pad. This Track Pad is perhaps the worst one I have every used in my life. After about an hours usage it becomes dirty making it almost impossible to navigate the cursor. I've found it best to keep a little cloth with the unit so I could periodically clean the track pad.
Overall I do find this to be a great system to work with, and plan on upgrading it to get the most out of it really soon. If you are on the road a lot and need a track pad that works well you may want to consider a different unit or just keep a cloth with you because it will get very annoying.

Pretty huge display screen, slightly on the heavier side. Fancy keyboard with the lights. Sleek functionality. Gets a little loud when I use it while it's charging. But overall, nice laptop so far.

Brilliant Gaming Laptop//Almost "Ultra" Settings

This laptop is everything you want it to be. Although I bought this on a Black Friday sale, it may still be worth full price. However, if it's on a $200 or $300 off deal -- take it! You will not be disappointed.
It is designed with gaming in mind with plenty of hardware settings and tweaks to assist you. Quite or loud fans, colorful keys or not, turbo CPU or not, high battery usage or not, etc. It's all included in the easy-to-use ASUS software.
For gamers: Most ultra settings are honestly too much anyway on a smaller screen, so for a laptop high/highest settings play very well on this machine with 60 fps or near 60 almost constant.
Buy this laptop if you are not sure what to get as a gaming gift. I bought this for my 16-year-old who will use this through university.

Its been couple of months since I bought this laptop. Its pretty good performance wise and supports most of the games from 2019. The graphics card supports well and the display is good for most of the games.
Pros:
1. Big screen is always good for gaming and multi tasking
2. Supports most high end games of current times
3. SSD provides the necessary speed boost and fast loading times.
Cons:
1. Screen refresh rate is 60hz. Can cause issues with high speed action games
2. The fan noise can get pretty loud during long gaming hours.
3. Battery back up will run out pretty quickly during gaming

Runs Great for Gaming. Benchmarked @ 67% gaming, 97% desktop and 75% workstation. Meaning it will handle just about any task you want to throw at it. Aura lighting is awesome. Able to turbo (overclock) gpu, with the push of a button. Definitely worth the money. Very low cost with the amount of power you get. Quick boot up time, I suggest getting an extra hard drive, only flaw not enough memory. Battery life last about 1.5-3 hours but that's expected with the amount of power it puts out.

Great specs for the price and the quality has been awesome so far. Seems like too many people that can't read specs before making the purchase are giving it low ratings for their own error. This machine rips games that I've tried so far, is super solid, looks great, and runs cool and quiet. If you can catch this rig on sale, skip the poor reviews and snag it.

I purchased the laptop for the Black Friday price. It was the best configuration I could get for the price of $899. The computer is fast as it comes with an i7 gen 9 processor, decent ssd hard drive space of 512 gb, ram of 16 gb (two 8 gb hynix cards), and 1660ti 6 gb graphics card.
The keyboard is backlit and also there is an led light which runs along the sides and front of the laptop. It changes colors, you can set it to the color you want, or you can turn it off. It is more than enough for your regular gaming and editing needs. The screen is 17.3 inches, 1920x1080 pixels, however, it is 60 Hz. It comes with 3 usb ports all on the left side. It has an ethernet port, earphone/microphone hybrid slot, and a USB C port.
Inside there is an extensive venting system and also you can configure the fan speed, so I have not faced any overheating issues even with games.
The drawbacks I found with the laptop are the following:
1. There is no DVD drive/writer
2. There is no SD card reader
3. The adapter is pretty bulky
4. To upgrade anything such as the hard drive or ram, you must open the entire bottom cover.
5. The battery is also under the bottom cover
6. The screen is 60 Hz, however it didn't make much of a difference to me. Perhaps for the hardcore gamer it may matter.
7. There is no built in webcam
But overall, it seems like a solid machine which will serve it's purpose, and I am satisfied with the product.

in school for IT doing lots of labs in environments with virtual pcs needed high performance but not heavy on price. Amazing value in this. I love my kughted keyboard i can even customize how it looks. I can also change performance of the pc so if I need it to kick into overdrive for heavy processing and quick cooling I can manually do that and very fast by a press of a button. My teenager has begun to steal my laptop to game at night as well since it can easily handle it.

Solid System - Games Working Well So Far

Picked this up for my teenage son who wanted a gaming laptop. With school needs, it was time for him to get an upgrade (he was using a nearly ten year old system which we put a new video card in to hold him over for a while..).
In general, the laptop is heavy - this is to be expected in a large-screen gaming laptop. Between cooling needs and size of screen, its no surprise this thing is nearly 5 pounds (no including the solid brick power supply).
The hinges on the screen/lid seem quite sturdy. The keys are flush with the lower surface area to reduce likelihood of impressions in the screen when packed away (I informed my son to keep the keyboard protective sheet for when the lid is closed).
The keys are responsive. The OS install was pretty quick - but the download of ALL the windows security updates took a bit of time (much to the annoyance of my son on Christmas day).
He's installed RainbowSix and a few other games. When the system is really being worked for gaming/graphics, the fans can be a bit noisy.
Other than that, a few tips (for yourself or whomever you might buy this for):
1) Backups. Backups. Backups. You cannot backup the entire system image natively in Windows to a USB stick. Invest ~$100 for an external USB hard drive just to make a recovery image of the system once you've downloaded all the windows updates but before you start going to town installing all your games and accessory apps. (Especially if this is for a youth who hasn't been educated in being "careful" with downloads and such...)
2) Laptop bag/backpack with a well padded sleeve for the laptop itself. Get one. Seriously. This thing is heavy. If you're intent on being mobile, a good bag with great protection is worth it.
3) External gaming mouse. The touchpad is ok, but for gaming an external gaming mouse it is a MUST have item.

First off...not a gamer. Was looking for a more powerful computer for office productivity and this laptop met my needs. This has been an amazing computer and so glad I made this decision. For the gamers...my step son took over my computer for a couple of nights and loved it. I am not experienced enough to comment on those specs but wanted to pass that along as well.

ASUS ROG G731GU OR GT

I saw on the website of ASUS and compared the model with the ROG Models and I saw that the only the GT has the 60hz monitor and the model says GU which this would be a GT, which you guys should really change that because that is false advertisement. Either way the product seems fine except that the model number should be changed.

Picked this laptop up for $899 as a Black Friday deal and it is worth every penny. It doesn’t come with much as far as bloatware and is very fast. I’m not much of a PC gamer, but I put Gears 5 on it and it ran on Ultra/High settings pretty smooth with the laptop set to performance mode. The speakers surprised me with their sound and for a laptop you won’t be disappointed.
The only issue with this laptop is it’s a 60hz monitor, was hoping it was a 120hz, but sadly I was disappointed.
The other items to mention are the fans, they can get loud but that is expected when pushing the cpu/gpu. You can set a silent mode but you will notice the cpu run a bit hot and performance will be lost.

I bought this solely for gaming. I use it instead of a desktop so I can play in bed or while on the sofa. I only use it plugged in so am not concerned about battery life.
This is my third Asus gaming laptop. I trust their quality and this new one doesn’t disappoint. Very solid feeling. It’s also much lighter and thinner than my previous Asus ROG purchased about 4 years ago.
So far I’ve run Destiny 2, No Man’s Sky, and Archeage on it at max settings and it’s maintained a steady 60fps. Since the display is 60hz I guess it doesn’t matter if it could theoretically kick out more FPS.
My only complaint is the display. It’s just not as bright as the display on my prior ROG laptop. It’s also got a sort of cream colored tinge to it - whites don’t seem as white. I’ve played around
With the settings, but no luck.

This is a really good laptop. The Function Keys are a little weird as they are offset from the rest of the keyboard, but that is ok. I will just have to get used to it for my gaming. It starts up really fast and runs well. If you are looking for a laptop that is absolutely silent when you are running heavy graphics/memory, then this may not be the computer for you. However, do I think this is loud? Not really. It can get kind of loud for a few minutes when I am doing major photo editing in Adobe Photoshop, but, again, it does not last for more than maybe a minute...or maybe I just tune it out. I really like the graphics and how well it hands World of Warcraft with very little lag. For a 17 laptop with heavy duty fans, it is not all that heavy. One thing I did not notice when I was researching computers, this little gem does NOT have an SD Card slot. However, I can buy one to plug into one of the USB slots at Best Buy for less less than $20.00.

I got this laptop for little less then $1K, but so far I didn’t regret for the money I spend. This is one such machine. Boots very fast and the response time is very good. The backlight keyboard gives this laptop a nice and cool look. This is a definite but for the gamers.

Great Performance and Hardware Options for Price

This Asus laptop offers great overall performance and is a pretty capable gaming laptop for the money. There is primarily 2 pieces of hardware in this laptop that separate it from the higher end laptops. 1st is the display which is sufficient for gaming, but is limited to 60hz refresh rates. The money they charge for higher refresh rates is ridiculous, over rated imo, and not worth the money. The 2nd is the graphics card which is also sufficient for gaming, but again is going to limit the ability to run maximum settings in the most graphic demanding games. Buying laptops with upgrades for these two items jumps the price of these gaming laptops up by $1k or more very quickly. If you must have higher refresh rates and want to run maximum graphic settings then you might want to spend the extra. If your on a budget, this will get you gaming!
